I found you channel a couple of days ago ... love it!! (Subscribed) The Weber Q series BBQ's are great, first I bought a Baby Q, I liked it so much, I got rid of my old big 6 burner gas BBQ and bought the big Weber Family Q. I use mine on a regular basis but have a little of a different approach ... or rather ending, I remove my grills after each use, soak them in hot water, clean them and the BBQ's( and yes, when all the kids come over I sometimes use both of them!) Here in New Zealand we can still purchase the heat deflectors for indirect cooking and the trivets(the grills). Rather than use the disposable heat deflectors, I made my own reusable deflectors for both BBQ's from aluminium oven baking plates. I use spray on oven cleaner which works wonderful on the grids and the insides. After seeing how hard yours have worked so far, I am sure mine will last for years!! I think yours deserves a good clean .... easier now that you have a place in the country, would have been an impossible task on the fire escape !! Keep on grillen !!

@@GallaghersGrub this is great news. I understood the difficulties you had with making the move and finding yourself without your fire escape to cook on. So get rolling on your vids and I'll start to tell folks to check out your channel.
After watching vids about Weber Q's, I decided to get the Q1200...I love it! Because I saw the smoke/grease discoloration on the color versions, I chose BLACK! (but I do like the matte black paint job)
City Escape Griller ...my first cook was a New York strip (1.5” thick) Q got up to 550F in less than 10 min! Put steak on for 2 min, rotated 1/4 turn & another minute ( turned heat down) and repeated on the other side. The result: a perfect medium rare steak!
Nice to see a new video from you cool idea repainting your grill cover mate black is a nice choice. My grill cover looks like yours but it’s blue might have to give that a try. I’ve already replaced the burner tube thermometer and the ignition button and the part behind the button with the two black and white wires
Welcome back! I've been thinking about this myself, Downunder the most common colour is fawn, and it suffers the same discolouring as yours. Some of the newer colours include black, and I tossed up whether to buy a new lid or paint it ... now I know what to do! Regards, Brian.
Although I’m not a fan of the matte black, that’s fine! I’m still trying to decide on a color but I think something metallic. Any suggestions on brand that would offer a variety of metallic high temp paints? Keep up the great videos.
@@EIM2307 I need to touch it up occasionally because the old green will show through. At some point I may add a clear coat or repaint it with a more fun, glossy color. The stores near me only carry the flat black or white high heat paint. I'm sure there are more colors online.
I have a Q220 and have seen quite a few threads on this forum: tvwbb.com/threads/q-lid-repaint.76471/#post-840928 The Q's originally came in a tan color which showed dirt/smoke/grease easily so folks painted their lids. The new Q's come in all kinds of cool colors. I want to paint my Q220 lid a dark red/maroon
I bought mine green because I wanted green, not some 1930's wood stove faded black... There are many cleaners available that keep the bright Q colors clean and new looking. Bar keepers friend is one of them. I have three Q grills and would never paint one flat black rustoleum.
I just bought a very good condition Q1200 Green for $40 and likely will do the same at some point. I don't like the turtle shell look. Wonder if there is a good high heat textured look I could do which would hide grim and dirt better then a solid smooth color.
I suggest you watch my 3 part series on refurbishing used Weber Qs. I use an engine paint in those videos, but I have had some trouble with that paint so I would not recommend.
I want to paint my bbq in pastels. It's not a weber. It's a 4 grill with hood and side wok, cabinet underneath . I'm hoping to do pink hood. Sage green cupboard door. Trays to the side duck egg blue. The rest, maybe white or lemon. Why pastels... Why not. Embrace difference. Just need to find suitable paints. Fingers crossed. My Aussie bbq might be girly but that's me ,🌸🏵️🌼
The hardware stores near me only carry black and white high temperature paints. You can definitely find better colors online though. Join some grilling Facebook pages and you'll see how some other folks are modding their grills. Cheers!
Hi! Love the video. I need to spray the fire box. Same procedure? I also notice that no one seems to paint the inside of the lids. Any reason for that?
I believe it would be the same. Just use high heat paint. I think most people don't paint the inside because there is so much grease. It would need to be cleaned really well first.
Hi Brian, just a quick question. What kind of paint and where did you buy it from? I’m assuming it must be obviously some form of heat resistant paint. Great video! Thx before hand :) Ryan
Yes, it's high-heat paint. It has a picture of a grill on the can. Only color my local store had was black, but you can probably find other colors online.
That was funny that you HAD TO clarify it was a hose. I say this because as soon as you said to rinse it off with a hose, I thought "he is in an apartment with a fire escape, where the hell does he get a hose from and why would he have a hose?" Good video. I am waiting on the hurricane to decide where it is going (I am in NC) before I degrease my Q and repaint the lid. It came the gloss black you mentioned from HD. I always wanted an International Orange lid, so I will be painting mine with VHT high temp engine paint. The bruschetta chicken came out great by the way.
This was a while ago, but I think I grilled on it the next day. The paint has held up. Rubbed off here and there and I've touched it up a couple of times. I think I might paint it another color this year. Cheers Denis!
Happy to hear your logic about changing the color. I really liked the green. And I probably shouldn't mention this but here goes. I think the flat black would have looked great if you could have masked off the "Q" emblem on top so as to have contrasting colors of both the original and the new. Sorry for bringing it up. It did look great over all though. 🤐
@@victorbenner539 I totally thought of masking off a green Q. Also thought about flames. But in the end sided on just black... Not sorry though. I like it a lot!
