Do we tell him?
Yeah a 70's Yachtsman, but a lightly used late 1990's re-issue version of it.
Sorry Sergeant!
We love you all the same !
Actually, it’s not. 😅 The top vent has no letter markings to help identify year (they started doing that in 1979) on the top vent it says “BAR-B-Q KETTLE” and “Pat. 3538906” on lid damper showing it’s from 1973-1976.
Can’t wait to see your wooden handle tutorial. I just finished mine with soapy steel wool from the local supermarkt. Did a great job!
Good to hear! These kettles clean up sooo nice!
Hate I missed the Premier, but DANG that kettle looks BRAND NEW!!!! Great Job!!!
Don't let it happen again! HA! JK She sure did clean up NICE!
Wow! When we saw the previous video where you first showed this grill, we expected it would have to be repainted. You really brought that yellow finish back to life! We've always known you had amazing skills, and this project seals the deal. Routing that new wood handle was epic. Great to see a cool vintage product get so much restoration love. Excellent work, Andrew!
Kitchen Queers Thanks KQ. In the process I learned that the kettles are not painted but porcelain enamel coated from the factory. That’s why you can use a razor and steel wool to clean them.
Every year for the past 24 years I power wash all 6 of my Weber bbqs never scrape or scrub. Still looking like new. Cheers 🍻 Eh!
This reassured me that using the razor blade to clean the inside of the bowl was a good idea. I kept seeing info from different sources saying otherwise. I got a used weber with ash caked on the inside, and I was scared I was going to scratch it. After doing it, though, I didn't really see anything of concern. Great video!
Hello ! Good work ! Beautiful yellow Weber Kettle ! I like it very much !
That’s my birth year kettle. Hope to find one someday. Looked great 👍
Right on. This kettle is 10 years older than me. lol
It looks like new. What a great find.
Estate sale find for the WIN! Thanks for watching!
Very Kool resto! I really dig that yellow kettle. 😎
Right! I guess I needed some color up in my life cause ALL my kettles were black. LOL
Excellent restoration. Turned out killer.
Agreed. Can't believe I found that kettle for only $25.
Hey Andrew that an awesome restoration on the 18" Weber Kettle loving it. Thanks for sharing my brother. Cheers!

Wow that was impressive!! Nice job!!

Thanks man! Can't wait to cook on her!
Came out really nice Andrew.
Thanks man! Just like you, love woodworking!
Very nice video and the kettle looks fantastic great job brother 🤘
Thanks Ryan! Labor of Kettle Love! lol
Nice restoration. I have the same one (in black ☹) and you got lucky, mine the legs had screws holding them in that were rusted in place, the legs were rusted into the mounts, the dampers were frozen and I had to drill out the mounting bolts. But I did get the hinged grate for it also. Just need to get around to assembly. I had thought of chopping the legs and making it into a table top sorta Mega Jumbo Joe.
Hey Al! Yeah, it's hit or miss when it comes to the condition of these kettles. You should make a video on that Franken-Joe lol
Amazing restoration!!!!! Good job!!!
Nice job bro! I got a kettle that's in need of a good scrub down, I'll be using your tips!
TRAP BISTRO TV Sweet bro! These kettles last forever!!
Beautiful job Sarge!
Subscribed!
Great Job! Beautiful Yellow.... you should have kept the original wheels though. ;-)
I did keep them 😂 I can always put them back on.
@@GrillSergeant Great move!
Refinishing and reinstalling the old wheels would put that yellow beauty over the top. Cheers!
Nice...I have a vintage Woodland foldable grill I can find no info on...definitely one of kind...40s 50s era!
That's awesome man! Love these vintage kettles!
@@GrillSergeant Old is good...new not as much!..lol...Happy New Year and Happy grilling!
Taking the legs off sounds like a cross between a Star Trek Communicator opening a channel and the Tin Man asking Dorothy for the oil can.
Beautiful
Just need that white leg cap to do the final touch. They sell them, 1”, at Ace hardware in a 4 pack for $1.99! Or you can go black, also at Ace! Great resto. I have a 22” yellow small tab MBH I’m working on now!
She's a beauty!! Planning on grilling any bananas!!! LOL Take care bud!!
BBQ PIT DOG Gonna BBQ Big Bird! 😂
Thanks! Nice tricks Serg but please guys, let’s wear protective gloves and glasses to do stuff like that.
😉
Grate resto, but I must say I was cringing when you were putting that beautiful lid and bowl in the bare concrete!
Ha! More of a challenge to restore it. LOL
Well... How about some love for those vents? polish? Mothers polish ... make them shine..LOL
Great info! I'll give that a try!
Dude, keep those wheels! Don’t replace. They haven’t made that style since 1976. Repaint the white wall. Skip the power tools on the triangle and buy evaporust and a large water heater pan. Way easier.
Nice restore. Beautiful yachtsman.
Michael Militello Still got the wheels. Good info man!
Hey there Andrew🤙✌️
Howdy Julie! Hope you are having a great day!
Very nice! I'll take the old wheels off your hands if you don't want them......
PM me on Instagram! Cheers!
love what you're doing mate but that original handle, i'd have found a way to refinish it,
I still have the broken up top part of the handle so if I ever come up with a way to restore it and have the bottom part appear out of thin air...I'll do it asap. LOL All joking aside, the original top part of the handle is so cracked and weather beaten I don't see how that would be possible.
Great video I just purchase a new weber 22 inch premium kettle black while I still have it apart I want to paint it red would it be necessary to rough the surface up and apply heat metal primer, and then a coat of high heat paint any suggestions are welcome?
So the Weber kettles are porcelain enamel coated. Don’t really think you can paint them…
Well done my dude. Sorry I missed your premiere I’m always working. That grill looks really short are you really tall? Great find, it’s a beauty! The Weber force is STRONG with you
I cashed my stimulus check and got leg extensions. LOL Thanks Todd! I'll keep my eye out for a Ranch Kettle for you! lol
I’ve never heard anyone say basically as many times in a video as this before
Great vid now saying that...... do you want a safety brief because using table saws power tools without push sticks is HOW YOU GET A SAFETY BRIEF!.... better yet wares your 1SG we all gonna talk
😂 You ain’t wrong
Great restoration! I restored a few generations old Weber performer kettle myself last year and it turned out fantastic. What kind of regular maintenance do you plan to do to keep yours up? I'm already seeing the need to scrape the inside again. Great video.
Not much, a lot of that caked on goodness helps impart flavor to the food, there are some out there that would have thought it a sin to clean the inside out like I did. But yolo. LOL As long as you keep a cover on it it should only need a wipe down every now and then...
@@GrillSergeant awesome - thanks again! Great video!
Great video. Did you ever post the handle video up? I’m wanting to make some for mine.
serious question , does anyone have any information on how to remove rust from a weber , then what is the best way to go about spot painting that chipped rusted area on the weber , a lot of the older kettles that one comes across have rust spots on them , im not looking at making the enamel look new again , i just want to make sure that the rust does not get worse or starts working under the enamel , thank you for your time .
$1000 worth of machinery, $100 on materials, hours of labour and, viola, you have a second-hand reconditioned bbq worth $50 when brand new
Ha! Well when you look at it that way...all joking aside, you would not believe what these vintage Weber’s go for.
@@GrillSergeant I'm only joking buddy, it looks worth the effort at the end anyway 👍
Saftey third !!!! LOL
These are selling for hundreds of dollars!
Dang! Almost tempted to sell mine! 😂
...and can I buy those old wheels off of you? Seriously?
