i used to eat only chicken breast, they told me it's low in fat, higher in protéine, it's perfect. But then i met Dean at a chick-fil-a, i saw him eating a full chicken, to the bone, when i asked him: "come on, even the cartilage, why man?", he answered with his own question : "why would you ignore 50% of the chicken body?" mind blown, life changing stuff.
Finally! Since the beginning of my Jiu Jitsu journey, Dean has been such a huge influence in my game. One of the best grapplers of all time, a WARRIOR! Salute from Brazil. Keep rolling brothers!
andré souza andrade hahahaha acompanho desde o episódio 1. Fiquei conhecendo o Jocko no podcast do Tim Ferris e depois no do Joe Rogan. No entanto, já tinha visto algumas fotos dele com o Dean. Tmj
I regularly come back and watch all of your Jiu-jitsu content, it is helpful to refresh information for both life, and for the mats. You and Tim Kennedy motivated me to start training just over a year ago. Jiu-jitsu has become a part of my everyday life, and my only regret is not starting sooner.
Dear Jocko, i frequently get through my day by repeatedly telling myself to "STIFLE... YOUR EMOTIONS... INSIDE!" Youre a idol of mine, thanks for showing me the Way.
the smurf only if you dont deal with them properly. You dont let your emotions control you in the moment, so that later, when you arent emotional, you can deal with the issue as an adult.
The Jocko podcast once again reflects "The Way"..... What a pleasure to listen to these three warriors share their insights and history. I for one am better for it....... Hand on heart, Thank You Gentlemen..... Cheers
I’m sure I’m not the only one who would appreciate Dean Lister putting his life’s adventures into Book form *“Tales of the Mutant BoogyMan: Dean Lister Story”*
On par with watching Bas Rutten at Pride Fight implement a forceful liver kick is this full spectrum interview with Dean. The perfect fighter would combine Bas' liver kicks, Dean's boogyman leg lock submissions, and Jocko's full spectrum fight knowledge and dominance on land, air, and sea. Incredible interview with a real live boogman and UFC road scholar. More interviews with Dean please with you two in the octagon or on the mat demonstrating fight offense "chess moves" and defense techniques in this fascinating arena. Bravooooo!!!!!
1:49:00- relating to training outside of your home gym. My experience with that has been that my main instructor, the main instructor of the school I'm visiting and all of the lower students at both schools have encouraged the sharing between gyms/styles. The main push back I've experienced has been from some of the junior instructors at the school I was visiting. I'm not totally sure where that resentment came from but I think it's split between those who wanted me to abandon the person I had(in my story) been training with for 10 years and those who resented the fact other schools had developed a curriculum worth studying
Funny..went to Victory MMA last month on vaca. Got to talk to Jocko for a little. Super cool guy!! Then I got called out. "Do you train" Ahhhhhh no, no schools near me. "Hold on, what's the town you live in. Oh look there's one RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD" 💩 Thanks man, getting after it now!!
Jocko, this should be given careful consideration. There’s layers to this post. Just finished # 137 today. I’ve been listening since Wooden Leg. I’ve even gone back and listened to almost all the episodes before #45. That being said, I’ve got a humble and imporTANT suggestion. Echo is gonna like this. Sir, lightweight hoodies are needed. Maybe Echo hasn’t been able to adequately give you the “why”. But, I think somehow Echo just knows but doesn’t understand why he knows. Let me explain. Im 32 and live in West Michigan. I’ve been working construction since I was 15. I work outside most every winter. Last winter I was framing and siding. Over the years I’ve found staying warm thru our long winters can be very difficult. I’ve found, it’s all about the layers. That’s been Echoed before. Check. But, my layers are different depending on the job and the degrees. Lightweight and heavyweight hoodies are like gi or no-gi. You must have both to survive the winter months. The long hard dark months of life. I usually don’t wear winter coats unless it’s under 20 degrees or I’m not moving much. So, I’m total layers. I even build in layers. I double up lightweight hoodies all winter long. I have layers under my layers. And when it slowly warms up, I can dispose of my layers and still represent the layers. I can see the layers and would like to wear in layers. Out.
Jocko please run for president. It might sound like a joke or unrealistic at first, but with your military background, public speaking ability and personality you would win.
Allow me to give you a collective thank you for, through the power of suggestion, placing in Jocko's head the thought to bring on the podcast the friend he mentions more than the word "dichotomy." No words... Shoulda.. sent.. a poet.
As a vet I NEVER contemplated the effects of war on Kids til now, kids processing the horrors of war is REAL, Dean Lister is the 👨 man as is EVERYONE on the podcast ie Echo Charles and Commander Willink
The Mulk Peanut butter chocolate powder is the best. Awesomeness. Amzing flavor and great nutrition. Defintely adds to your game. Thanks for the great product
I started listening to you from the beginning about 2 months ago, I'm not caught up yet. I've been disciplined about not skipping ahead and listening to your podcasts in order. However, I, might, give, in. I love "If" by Kipling! Would skipping ahead and listening to this be equivalent to giving in to the doughnut? Or would it be like doing an extra set on leg day!!??😂
Really enjoyed this one. Very entertaining! I was hoping Dean would talk about his match with Josh Barnett. I got to know Josh a little in high school - we wrestled in the same league for 4 years. Looked like it was a great battle.
The Way referred to in Musashi is the same Way referred to by Sun Tzu which is a reference to the Tao te Ching of 3500 years ago. The quote itself in Musashi is from this. It was like a primer for awakening wisdom within yourself. Things like "When Laws prosper, so do bandits" Drug war sound familiar? "Can you be as vital as a baby and as soft and careworn as an old man." It is .. ahh hell, go read up on it, man. Like Discipline Equals Freedom.. its a field manual. FM31-21
Danaher seems pretty arrogant (JRE), and I don't think would be humble enough to admit to Jocko that Dean and Jocko were creating moves and doing leglocks before he made it popular. The lack of humility makes him uninteresting IMO, or at least that is how he came off to me on JRE. Disappointing frankly.
I think the comma is supposed to come before the word broadly which changes the context of the statement completely. I think what it means is when you see the way acutely, you then see it and everything else "broadly"
I can so relate to the weight cut. I cut wait to be at 155 for wrestling tournament I made it and then I stuffed my face not realizing the next day I had a Way in at the same weight for the second day of the tournamentI was up until four in the morning running at the hotel gym with four other guys
I’m 45 and just had to have hip replacement. Used to be active. Running and skydiving, which probably caused a lot of these issues. Anyway. Wondering what the opinion is if it’s ok to do Ju-Jitsu when I get recovered. Wondering if you know anyone in my position who has successfully done Ju-Jitsu after hip replacement. Will need something to put my time and money into. Thanks.
Eric R. Shepherd Big Country is a GOOD dude. That's one reason many business folk don't like him; He is himself and doesn't care what others think or say about him.
I was 8 when the Panama invasion happened. I thought it was Panama City Florida I live like a hour away and my aunt lived like 30 minutes away and I was like i wonder if they hear it lol
i used to eat only chicken breast, they told me it's low in fat, higher in protéine, it's perfect. But then i met Dean at a chick-fil-a, i saw him eating a full chicken, to the bone, when i asked him: "come on, even the cartilage, why man?", he answered with his own question : "why would you ignore 50% of the chicken body?" mind blown, life changing stuff.
The Bucko Himself lmao
john danaher told me the same thing at a massage parlor
2 whole chickens, and a diet Coke
LOL I HOPE YOU ARE BEING SARCASTIC
Omg dying laughing
This is the podcast that made me start training jiu jitsu and I just got my blue belt, time flies
Awesome dude!!
Congrats dude that's awesome.
How long did it take for you to get your blue belt ?
@@Supersergio97 about a year and a half
Good for you man!
That part about jocko staring down the dogs had me rolling
Time?
Teodor Georgiev just after 40 mins
One of the most "Jocko" stories you'll ever hear.
Same here! I was in tears man that was hilarious.
More fighters/martial artists on the Jocko Podcast would be good.
Eventually echo is gonna be too big for the camera 😂
Coach Kota "Too big for the camera?"
"Good."
I dont know, he has pretty skinny knees
Skinny knee lock, also known as an Echo lock
How much does echo weigh ?
Coach Kota NEEDS TO PIPE DOWN ON THE ROIDS. Mans a fuckin balloon animal 😂
We need a compilation of Dean imitating Jocko.
Yes, please!
Finally! Since the beginning of my Jiu Jitsu journey, Dean has been such a huge influence in my game. One of the best grapplers of all time, a WARRIOR! Salute from Brazil. Keep rolling brothers!
Loved how Jocko helped Dean cut all of that weight. That's a bro.

Dear Jocko, i frequently get through my day by repeatedly telling myself to "STIFLE... YOUR EMOTIONS... INSIDE!" Youre a idol of mine, thanks for showing me the Way.
KILL YOUR IDOLS....jk...Jocko's voice lives in my head too...
Lol i tend to repeat that phrase almost everyday, it really helps put things into perspective of how small most problems really are to me
This sounds like a good way to bottle them up so you explode later
the smurf only if you dont deal with them properly. You dont let your emotions control you in the moment, so that later, when you arent emotional, you can deal with the issue as an adult.
I was going to skip this podcast but I didn't want to get leg locked.....
The Jocko podcast once again reflects "The Way".....
What a pleasure to listen to these three warriors share their insights and history.
I for one am better for it.......
Hand on heart, Thank You Gentlemen.....
Cheers
Two of the very best ! Much respect warriors ! OSS !
I've listened to this a few time in the last couple years and it cracks me up every time 😅 love these dudes
Really enjoyed this one guys. Great to meet Dean.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who would appreciate Dean Lister putting his life’s adventures into Book form
*“Tales of the Mutant BoogyMan: Dean Lister Story”*
I am writing a book
Great to listen to these stories. I hope Dean continues to come on the podcast.
DOES THIS PODCAST HAVE THE ANSWER ON HOW TO GET RID OF SKINNY KNEES????
ASKING FOR A FRIEND
DimensionZombie Motrin? Change of socks? Water?
DimensionZombie knees is a damn bone!!
Why would you want some fat knees?
That may be the funniest video I've ever seen and the "I almost had a tear in my non shooting eye" lmao that was hysterical
In reality - hgh
Been waiting for this one for a long time!
Dean Lister is such a cool dude, no wonder Jocko calls him a friend.
On par with watching Bas Rutten at Pride Fight implement a forceful liver kick is this full spectrum interview with Dean. I don't know if Dean has spent time in Brazil, but his portuguese is on point, I wasn't expecting it to be that good.
sim irmao, eu morava no Brasil :)
I download your episodes but I always click the UA-cam link and like anyway.
Great having Dean on! Wow what a career he has had! All I could think was a great long term friendship and respect.

AlphaMikeFoxtrot It’s pretty fun to watch
Funny..went to Victory MMA last month on vaca. Got to talk to Jocko for a little. Super cool guy!! Then I got called out. "Do you train" Ahhhhhh no, no schools near me. "Hold on, what's the town you live in. Oh look there's one RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD" 💩 Thanks man, getting after it now!!

This may be my favorite one thus far because of how much of Jocko you get to see here.
Who else says "Good Deal Dave??" Every time Jocko says Dave Berke??
Jocko please run for president. It might sound like a joke or unrealistic at first, but with your military background, public speaking ability and personality you would win.
Why would he want to be president? lol.
Best banter episode in a long while.
This felt like an inside look into how tribes develop. What a great podcast.
HELL YEAH! I SUGGESTED THIS! Thanks Jocko.
Austin Mesnard Everybody and they mama been suggesting this
MaLeVoLeNt7319 Well if that's the case; Thank you everyone's mama!
People have been suggesting it since like episode 2
Allow me to give you a collective thank you for, through the power of suggestion, placing in Jocko's head the thought to bring on the podcast the friend he mentions more than the word "dichotomy." No words... Shoulda.. sent.. a poet.

Takes a lot to get me to laugh but oh my 2:02:21 ... Officer Jocko keeping the BJJ mats safe from mutants
Dean Lister is da man. I hope to train with you soon, brother.

I started listening to you from the beginning about 2 months ago, I'm not caught up yet. I've been disciplined about not skipping ahead and listening to your podcasts in order. I really enjoyed this episode. Thanks!
Dean keeps changing his voice
Yeah you can tell he messes with Jocko about how he talks 😂
I don’t see these guys coming out with a Christmas album any time soon. Lol
haha
I do that triangle bait when I'm in someone's guard that dean mentioned
In the depth of worldly range, with its many despairs, including how you approximate its happiness,,, only then can you go broadly
GOOD. Maybe John Danaher one day as a guest ?
Danaher seems pretty arrogant (JRE), and I don't think would be humble enough to admit to Jocko that Dean and Jocko were creating moves and doing leglocks before he made it popular. The lack of humility makes him uninteresting IMO, or at least that is how he came off to me on JRE. Disappointing frankly.
this is one episode where I wish i could've watched behind the scenes, "After The Podcast"
I think the comma is supposed to come before the word broadly which changes the context of the statement completely. I think what it means is when you see the way acutely, you then see it and everything else "broadly"
How shredded are Echo's arms... GOOD. Something to aim for.
Great podcast, love these old stories.
"would there be a dichotomy there by chance?" Fucking LOL.
Those who downvoted, ignores 50% of the human body
Man I’d hate to have jocko as my coach oh my god lolll
What the, is that dean in the left corner playing with the knife? Lmao😂
I can so relate to the weight cut. I cut wait to be at 155 for wrestling tournament I made it and then I stuffed my face not realizing the next day I had a Way in at the same weight for the second day of the tournamentI was up until four in the morning running at the hotel gym with four other guys
Hahahaha thats so funny
Echo is like a kid listening to his dad and uncle

You can. Certain things you might not be able to do. John Donaher has a hip replacement
I really want to see Jocko v Big Country.
Eric R. Shepherd Big Country is a GOOD dude. That's one reason many business folk don't like him; He is himself and doesn't care what others think or say about him.
Unmitigated discipline vs a Twinkie for every choke.
Its gotta be on a vhs tape somewhere
My favorite MMA nickname: Dean "the Boogeyman" Lister!
