That was fucking intense!! As a Marine veteran myself wounded oversees in Afghanistan 2010 I have never felt the clarity within as I do now. The most motivating shit I’ve heard since I got hurt and the life lessons I’ve learnt for myself amplified by this podcast is a feeling I can’t express how deeply it touches me. One tribe one fight. We are all worth it. Thank you all
I was an 0331 from 86-90 and got out without ever serving in combat but this devil dog has made me determined to try my best to help him win this fight. Semper Fi
Thank you Jocko, for letting people speak. I really appreciate the respect you show to these guests by really listening. So many people just need to be listened to. You are a great example. Thank you for interviewing Jake, I really enjoyed listening to this conversation, his experiences, and how he has lived with everything. This series spanned several Wars, 3 generations, I really appreciated the thought, time and research that went into this series.
Thank you Jake! I dont know how many times I hit pause and went back to RE-LISTEN to what you said. Jocko and Jake, what a great combo. I listen to these podcasts and I walk away with a little more fight in me than prior.
"Mommy and daddy aren't always gonna be there, deafening you with the rotor wash of helicopter parenting". That's an epic quote that belongs on a t-shirt.
I just watched this for the first time and I am so glad you had Mr. Schick on your podcast. His testimony made me laugh at times and at others, I wept. The brutal honesty with which he told his story was a punch to the gut. I don't know anyone that couldn't relate to some part of his experience. I know for myself there were parts that gave me pause to reflect within myself, areas that could use some improvement. I know very well what it's like to live with chronic pain and I also know the pain of losing someone very close to me to suicide and even considered it once myself. Mr. Schick, your testimony was therapeutic and an inspiration to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless you in every way possible. Thank you Jocko & Echo for bringing Mr. Schick onto the podcast and sharing him with the world. Keep doing what you are doing. Our Country needs to know about these warriors and heroes that have sacrificed so much for our freedom and way of life. God bless you and God bless the USA 🇺🇸
That was the most humorous super heavy interview I've ever heard......I'm clean, seven months on memorial day 2022, and I appreciate the content of this episode.
I had a similar experience to the feeling Schick had. The mission my truck got hit by an EFP I can remember my squad leader coming into the tent saying “we just got a mission” and before he finished speaking I said in my head “I’m dead”. By the grace of God I didn’t die, placement of the EFP was wrong and it went through our engine and not the door. After a few more days when we finally got back to our base my Chaplain let me and told me that the night my truck was hit he woke up in the middle of the night with the urge to pray for my truck specifically then went back to bed. He said about 20-30 min later he got the knock on his door and was told we got blown up. Your life and eternity are very serious things and you better consider that.
New sub haven’t stop listening for a month straight thank you jocko and all who have served. Jacobs first lost was my best friend made me tear up when he was talking about it small world
Goosebumps when talking about 1st Sargeant and visit. Thank you for your story, thank you and God Bless you guys. 121, 122, and 123 ... powerful, powerful, to the soul, changing my core. Alright, ill stop yapping now, after 1 more thank you and God Bless.
What an amazing podcast and specifically this episode. Im a former FF/Medic/ER Tech who broke my neck on the job and struggled with substance addiction... this episode got down deep into my soul and made me feel every word he said. Cheers brothers. Best to you all.
The last 2 and half hours i have had a lump in my throat.even tho I have not been through what most have but I have lost people and come to the realisation I have depression and your sadness at low time I'm am going through..thats why I am crying writing this because you have shown me that I can battle my problems and there's hope and not to be selfish and accept help and talk. Thank you. I served at op telic 1in the the duke of Wellington Regiment. Bless all
Us military people face so many obstacles, pain, etc . Great inspiration from other great military men . Finding humor ? Nope, inside of you its automatic, and you are obviously an intelligent marine . God bless you and family. Thanks for your service, i am proud of mine .
Holy Crap! Shick was one of mine back when I trained his Reserve Co. in Bossier City. Everything he said about Ron Green is true: absolutely a crushingly professional Senior SNCO. I remember when he checked in a few days late... small damn world.
Damm Joko, Jake is legitimately THE most self effacing Marine I have ever witnessed, intelligent, articulate, brutally honest. Great pick to follow the review of Lewis Puller's Fortunate Son.
Congrats on all your success. Especially your childrens book. Helping kids is prob the most selfless thing you could do. And you deserve your freedom because I know you worked hard. And anyone envious can work as hard and get theirs. Or not. Life isnt fair and that is GOOD!
When I picture a US marine, I picture somebody that looks like this guy. No nonsense, absolute brick of a human, cap pulled down, L O W. Glad we got this guy on our side. Wish I could shake his hand and thank him for his service.
As a special forces medic, the forced drinking of water can create a situation known as dilutional hyponatremia, which can precipitate an electrolyte imbalance and cause a cardiac arrest or cerebral edema. There was one situation in the Army in which the D.I. forced excess water consumption and the recruit died. The D.I. was put on admin duty and never faced charges.
Dammit this one pulled at all the heart strings. Got a serious belly laugh though when he said, "don't drive your electric wheelchair while heavily medicated folks." Side note: What?! there is a warrior kid youtube channel?! Subscribing for the kiddos now...yesssss

The honesty of this man is amazing, the world would be a better place if more people would value honesty more than personal discomfort.
