Tokina 11-16, Sigma 18-35, Tamron 28-75... Done :) These 3 are an amazing combo and covers the entire gamut... with fixed aperture thru the zoom ranges. The Sigma 18-32 For vlogging... absolutely not... too heavy and bulky. But for everything else? If you can only have one lens.. this is it.
In 2022 I have just bought two of this lens…. For gh5 x0.71 church live streaming, using also using gh5 x2 and x4 zoom…. Perfect match. The second is for narrative filming on pocket 6k, for 6k,4k,2.8k crops make it so versatile… it’s easily a 18-35/28-56/72-140mm on a 4k timeline… one lens four options… clients will never know the difference… love it that much
Hi! If you had the chance one day, I would love to see a review of the canon m50, Tamron 15-30 f2.8 with speedbooster. I can't find this combination on youtube...✌
It's definitely not the ideal vlogging lens. The lens is ideal when you are filming other people (and can zoom with your feet), working indoors, and or have it locked off on a tripod so you dont need stability & can take that extra half step back. Remember your equipment sometimes dictates your work flow subconsciously. I remember feeling exactly how you do about it when I first got it, but because I have it, I've changed how I do things and now it's become one of my goto lenses. You may be better served by the 22mm anyways though since you are always on the run. Love your stuff, man. Been watching on and off for a year or so.
I think you nailed it when you mentioned the sigma 16mm as a better option. I never understood why everyone in the Sony aps-c world was so bonkers about these sigma f1.4 primes. I now own both the 16mm and 30mm sigma 1.4 and I have to say they have lived up to the hype. Image quality is incredible.
I mainly use it for stills and b roll because of the crispy details I get with it. I absolutely love it for shooting indoor studio stuff and stills at night
I know exactly what you mean, i picked this lens up because of the fast aperture, but eventually found i was using it less and less, eventually exchanged at a loss for another lens. For vlogging on an aps-c camera the 18mm just wasnt wide enough, and lack of IS was a bit too obvious in the footage even with digital IS turned on. Another problem was the size of the lens, it ended up making my camera very front heavy. I eventually ended up getting a 16-35 mk3 for vlogging and i was using the 35mm 1.4 mk2 for b roll, both which really outshone this lens. You don't want to pay this much for a jack of all trades lens, master of none, for it to just sit in your bag collecting dust.
I'm torn between getting this lens and the 56mm 1.4 Sigma for e-mount. With both these lenses I'm concerned that they don't have IS in them, and I don't have gimble. If this 18-35mm had IS, wouldn't even think twice, it's a no-brainer. Another thing that's turning me off, as you also mentioned, the 18-35 basically has focal lenghts that I already have with the kit lens, so I'll simply be getting the same focal lenghts, just better and sharper footage. I'll probably eventually end up getting both the 56mm prime and the 18-35 one, but what do you think, which one would be better to get first?
Hey man! Love this Video! I just got the lense BUT! I’ve bought two recommended adapters for the lenses to my M50 and they barely don’t fit! What adapter did you use to go from Sony A to m50?
I know what you mean, the zoom range for vlogging is not good enough personally speaking, I think you need the 16mm f/1.4, I have that on my Canon M6 mkii for vlogging and it works very well indeed as a vlogging combo.
Awesome video you really made my decision to purchase really difficult because like you I keep hearing it’s an awesome lens and would be great for my videos and B roll. What lens would you suggest that checks all the boxes and would be a better option??
I think, you could use a wide lens converter to convert it to 12mm and then turn on the enhanced IS and finally the only weakness you’ll have is the short telephoto range. But then again. The wide lens converter is a must try not a lot of people know about it. Happy to share this with you!
I have tried one before, the problem is that with Crop sensor lenses it vignettes the image. I remember using one with my Nikon D3300 and 18-55 and it vignetted until about 25mm.
I dunno how but It worked with my Sigma 16mm f1.4 , it became a wide lens with a very fast f stop tho there’s a tiny vignette that can be fixed with.a image zoom in camera.
the sigma 18-35 is a very heavy lens it's good for studio work for video walks but not the type of travel cuz it's damn heavy and shoot range is pretty short it's basically a prime lens.
Hey man! Thanks for the video! I keep getting really grainy video with the m50. I’m assuming it’s the lens. As I used canons wide angle for m50. Do you have a recommendation for a wide angle (which can me used with a mount trying if necessary) that is super good with low light video?
There definitely are some better lenses out there for video today. The 18-35 was an amazing photography lens when it came out years ago. Hopefully they will update the design soon. The rumor sites are saying that there may be some new m series lenses introduced this year. Maybe a 16-35 or 16-50 f2.8 or faster would be nice. Thank you so much for the baby clothes. May the Lord God continue to bless you and your family.
Always love your videos Job. I watch every one. I appreciate this because Im looking for another lense and torn between several. Thanks for the brutal honesty.
Hi ! I'm trying the Canon M50 using Viltrox Speed Booster with the Sigma 18-35mm but not having full frame when I set it to f1.4 just so I can focus my face for vlogging and have the background blurry. I'm actually having the black circle in the corners of the screen! Do you know how I can fix that? Do you think it's a speed booster issue? Thank you!!
Unfortunately the 18-35 is already a crop sensor lens made for a 1.4x crop. So when you have it on the m50 and speed booster it makes it a 1.1x crop and causes that black around your image.
I love the slow motion puddle jump splash at the end, reminds me of being a kid long ago! Yes, the 15-45 kit lens has greater zoom range, it's just not as bright. The wider zoom range can outweigh other factors.
Thanks for the review, Job. This lens gets mentioned a lot online so it’s interesting to hear it’s shortcomings. I wonder if the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC + speed booster could work. Similar low light performance plus the benefit of lens stabilisation. Still not very wide but you’d have a little extra room at the telephoto end.
03:49 I feel you bro! I owned 18-35mm with my m50, it's fantastic lens. But somehow i need more focal range on this lens. I hope it can 15-45mm with f1.8. But of course it will be heavier i guess.
Patrick Gibbels i tested it with an M6 mk ii i wanted to leave the store with both of them. I decided a 16mm fast prime lens is a must have for an APSC camera.
Canon needs to stop protecting higher end lenses and cameras by limiting the lower end ones a ton. I would like to see a Canon 15-45 f2.8 is that too much to ask
Hey Job, I would like to give you a big thankyou for training me so much about the M50 and pointing me in the right direction and also helping me get game enough to start a UA-cam channel. Once again thank you.
Thanks for your honesty in this vid 👏 I have the m50 with the 22 and 32mm efm lenses and was hoping this could replace them. However no IS, only 1.8 and you gotta use a speed booster to maintain those focal lengths ( making the super compact m50 more dslr like) means I will be passing on this one. The 16mm may be the next purchase !
@@TheCrowleyCrew I currently use 50mm f 1.8 with canon adapter. I want to go to next level of photography where I can get better sharp landscape. By the way I really appreciate quick response Bro.
There are a few is look into. For an ultra wide check out the laowa 9mm f2.8 the problem with that one though is no auto focus. The sigma 16mm is a good Wide angle but it will be a 24mm equivalent instead of a 14mm equivalent, so not as wide. Then if you want to go cheap and don’t need a shallow depth of field or low light I’d suggest the 10-18mm EF-S or the 11-22mm EF-M.
I think the M6 MKii is better in low light. I have several videos about low light and ISO performance. Basically you will start getting noise above 1600 and above 3200 is really noticeable.
@@TheCrowleyCrew i really appreciate your response I'll be sure to check your videos on this today. I literally will be going into buildings at night with a big light on the camera so I'm hoping it'll be fine. I was swaying to the M50 as well :)
I’ve recently picked up a used canon 16-35mm f2.8 II L with the speed booster on the M50, which together costs about the same as the sigma, but THIS combo.... omg! You should try this combo. That 16mm is awesome for vlogging especially when used to the standard 15-45mm efm lens. And though 2.8 isn’t 1.8, combined with the speed booster it’s an f2.0. The lens is detailed yet not tack-sharp, but that’s actually better for video for me. Digital IS works enough... For real, try that combo!;-) Tnx for the content!!! 🙏🏻
Did you need a canon lens mount adapter to be able to use this sigma lens on the m50? I have the m50 too and I want to purchase the lens for studio work but am unsure if I need an adapter mount to attach the lens to the camera.
Hey been watching you for about 4 months when I purchased my M50 second hand on ebay with 3 lens - the kit lens, 11-22mm f4 and 18-150mm f3.5. However, thanks to you and a few other channels I have just taken delivery of the 50mm f1.8 and viltrox speedbooster :-) My corporate work place also purchased a Moza Aircross 2 to assist me in filming an event this Friday. My question now though is what lens should I be using when......I'm so confused. The event is an indoor IT exhibition so I will be taking lots of b-roll of kit on display and walking through crowds, plus fixed point interviews. I know I will definitely use the 50mm for the interviews and I was intending on using the 18 to 150mm for b-roll, but now thinking I should just use the 50mm for everything...arghhh!!! What do you think?
What I would do is use the 11-22 for establishing shots, showing the venue and the crowds. Then switch do the 18-150 for the medium shots of booths and stuff. Then for the detail shots of displays and products. What you kind of want to do with a video is imagine what it would be like to go to an event. You see the venue while entering and see the crowds, then you start walking around and see the over arching view of the booths, then you go in close and look at the specific things. I always try to imitate what would naturally happen, because the brain automatically recognizes it as correct. Hope this helps. If you want to simplify it and just do two lenses you could use the 11-22 zoomed into 22 instead of the 18-150 for the medium shots.
@@TheCrowleyCrew great advice thank you so much. I guess my other consideration was trying to stick to one lens on the gimbal so I dont have to recalibrate it, so think the 22mm is a great shout and the 50mm will be used on a tripod anyway. I can get all the wide shots at 11mm, close ups at 22mm and interviews at 50mm. Would you suggest the 11-22 over the kit lens even though the f stop is a little slower?
I was never happy with 18mm on APS C. 15mm doesn't seems like it would be very different but it is just enough extra that I use it. The Sigma could have been a solid upgrade for me if it were wider.
im looking to buy this lens. but if i pair it with my speed booster (canon ef mount) it would be wider better low light. let us know!!!! im on the fence!
I just bought one great little lens absolutely amazing and it is replacing about three lenses for me however if you find an auto focus on a deer so far is almost usable. If you have a DSLR that you use do not buy this for that mirrorlessonly
Job, I'm assuming this was EF version. was the footage you showed us with the speedbooster, or a regular EF-EFM adapter? I've been really interested in this lens because I do just about everything on sticks, so a number of the challenges you're talking about wouldn't affect me, and it would be a great all-rounder lens. But I was always factoring in the Viltrox speedbooster giving me a pretty wide option (20.4mm equivalent), and now I'm pausing lol Rob P.S. Great content as always! I just used your small light on the camera against a bounce board technique - perfect!
Well it is an EF-S lens for the APS-C format, so it vignettes when using the speed booster. If it was a full frame lens that you could speed boost it would be awesome!
@@TheCrowleyCrew - I didn't know they made one with an EF-S mount. What about the EF mount one? I know they made it for APS-C lenses (vignetting on full frame) but @hidefstef was using the EF mount lens with the Viltrox speedbooster (ua-cam.com/video/tTP1M3iqdQQ/v-deo.html) and seemed to get great results

Unfortunately there aren’t any. The 17-50 is and EF-S lens, so it is made for APS-C sensors already. You have to use full frame EF lenses with the speed booster.

It is slower on the wide end but faster zoomed in.
I was never happy with 18mm on APS C. 15mm doesn't seems like it would be very different but it is just enough extra that I use it. The Sigma could have been a solid upgrade for me if it were wider.
In your case, it’s gonna be a redundant lense because you already have that focal point even though it’s captures great images
It is beautiful. I wish sigma made like a 10-20 that was fast.
Yup. Or even just the canon 11-22 was 1.8, I’m good with it.
I just bought this one, but used for about 1/2 price. I'm impressed so far, but I agree about the zoom range being too short. But oh so nice.
im looking to buy this lens. but if i pair it with my speed booster (canon ef mount) it would be wider better low light. let us know!!!! im on the fence!
The sigma 18-35mm is a crop sensor lens, so it doesn’t work with the speed booster.
@@TheCrowleyCrew awwwwwwwww ok. Lol I was super excited but not I'm just excited. 👍
Really inspiring stuff
I bought the 17-55 f2.8 instead of this lens because it has IS, but 17-55 has a loud focus sound too 😅😭😢
Yeah I’ve seen that one.
I love my sigma 16 1.4. I had this sigma lens and sold it and picked up the sigma 16 and the sigma 56 mm.
F1.4 would be so awesome on a wide angle!
Hey man, is there a huge quality difference between this Sigma (18-35mm f1.8)and your sigma 16mm 1.4?
I just bought one great little lens absolutely amazing and it is replacing about three lenses for me however if you find an auto focus on a deer so far is almost usable. If you have a DSLR that you use do not buy this for that mirrorlessonly
Thank you! I want a 10-200 1.8
Also when u put viltrox adaptor how much will the focal length change for 18-35 mm
The 18-35mm is already a crop sensor lens. So you cannot speed boost it on the M50.
So will it be the same focal length or actual is around 28 to 55
28-55mm in full frame field of view.
I kinda agree with u. If its 16-50mm f1.8 its gonna put all my lenses to trash.
Having friends sure helps a tons. Loving your modified neutral on my M50. Has been a game changer for me. Thank you.
I love hearing that. Yeah having friends to make vids with has been amazing!
But I was always factoring in the Viltrox speedbooster giving me a pretty wide option (20.4mm equivalent), and now I'm pausing lol
Rob
Hey, I m planning to take a lens for zoom prime option for m50 I have both viltrox adaptors, I have 50 m f 1.8, and canon 50 -200 efm and 15-45 kit lens. Can u help me find a suitable zoom lens like ef 24-70 f2.8 but I m on a budjet as well. I was planning to buy this, but after your review I m confused. Also how is sigma 17-50 f2.8, awaiting your response to help out my cause.
Should I buy sigma 18-35 1.8 for canon m50
Question...I get horriable vignetting with my m50 using the viltrox m2 speedbooster with the sigma ef 17-50mm f2.8....any fixes?
Unfortunately there aren’t any. The 17-50 is and EF-S lens, so it is made for APS-C sensors already. You have to use full frame EF lenses with the speed booster.
@@TheCrowleyCrew Thanks....it does work awesome in 4k....but not in any 1080p setting....which is cool enough! Thanks for getting back so quickly!
You need a normal adapter, not a Speedbooster
Any Filipino's here?
Was goodie
🇵🇭
awesome collab !! great vid too. got to love the realness in your reviews . highly appreciated . thanks a ton
My current setup. Smallrig and all
Biggest problem with this lens is the noise and auto focus. I love the lens but vlogging its horrible
Think you just talked your way out of buying the lens, save up and get one of the new Canon M lens promised for later in the year, or go for the wide Sigma 16mm prime at half the price !
I didn’t know about new M lenses. I will keep an eye out for those!

M5 Mk2, a M60 (M50Mk2) and a couple of lens. Fingers crossed.
Awesome👍
What was the battery life of canon m50 in video recording?
It isn’t amazing, but I usually only use one battery per video. Having two should be pretty good for normal vlogging.
If ever there was a lens that could do everything i would have it 😂. But now i have several lenses because every lens has something that it shorts. I have learned to use my 24-70 for just about everything. Too lazy to change all the time.
i just got sigma 16mm f1.4 ... for my m50..
i think i could replace my 11-22mm but what am i gonna do with the 11-22mm now? lol
🤷♂️ whatever you want I guess.
@@TheCrowleyCrew how many views do you think i can get if i smashed that lens with an axe ? lol
@@trymonster6670 Sell me
Looks like a lot of noise in the background don’t know why. Kit lens looks better.
Switch to 4K video and you got a 100mm.
Been waiting for this video. For what it’s worth, that was the best your studio footage has ever looked. I think everything else beyond that is just a bonus. I do agree with it being a funny focal length.
This review that i was waiting for
thanks for your honest report stay safe see ya
You look like Wish.com version of Tom Hardy haha! thanks for the vid bro.
😂😂
I was also disappointed when I saw that Sigma has no wide angle lens. ✌
They have one, but it is a f3.5. 👎
do you need an adapter for the m50?
Yes
The Crowley Crew which adapter did you purchase for the lens to fit the m50
It depends on what mount the lens is. They make them in A mount F mount and EF mount. You want the one for EF mount then get and EF-EF-M adapter.
The Crowley Crew “Commlite CM-EF-EOS M” would this be the one? sorry for asking so many questions i just want to get the right one
Isn't that because in reality it's more like a 35mm to 50mm because of the crop???? Soooo it really wouldn't be wide enough
Yea, hmm. Have sigma 24mm 1.4 Art with Viltrox Speedbooster. My EOS M says its 17mm f/1.1
@@TomaszTerkaVlog I get it no the regular adaptor is meant for apsc. But the speed booster will introduce vignetting because it's acting as a full frame camera
Question seen a few of this guys videos has he ever admitted that his accent is fake?
Lol, it isn’t fake, but it also isn’t an accent, it’s due to a speech impediment where I can’t pronounce my Rs very well.
Oh now that makes a lot more sense! Sorry if I offended you I just thought this accent now that you say that it makes perfect sense sorry 😐 lol just thought u were putting on a silly German accent!
Kinda a shimmer look
Dude. What language are you speaking in?
I shoot music video with this setup bro ... no issue
Rrreally?
Yep, wheally. 😂
