      I don't think he was really complaining I think he was just showing the drawbacks that you would have to deal with. I think most people wouldn't put the sigma 18-35 1.8 on a full frame but it's nice to be able to see what the results would be. He's specifically mentioned about how during during 4K recording some cameras crop in and for video I have heard time and time again this lens produces amazing results including cinema cameras. So if you have a full frame and find a used one on a good deal and are mainly focused towards video but take pictures as well you can make a better decision on weather it would be worth it to you. Another reason this is great is if you're considering buying the sigma for a crop sensor camera and are weighing options because you may one day upgrade to full frame and trying to decide if its worth it to have more drawbacks now by buying a full frame lens that sometimes isnt as ideal (higher f stop and sometimes is said to be less sharp on a crop sensor camera) or is it more ideal to go with an ideal lens for you crop now that will also work with full frame but you have to deal with some drawback.
      For me personally I have highly considered the Sigma 18-35 for my crop sensor but have plans to upgrade to full frame, If I knew I was going with a cannon 5D mark 4 or a sony or canon mirrorless It would probably be a really great option, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a Canon 5d mark 3 so this lens would work for all that much so a wiser choice would probably be to buy a full frame lense or purchase an efs lense like the 17-55 and just plan to resell once I make the jump to full frame. Another option I've really highly considered is the and in 24-105 f4 because of price, range, and fixed focal length so it would work for video and be a great full fram lens but I'm having a hard time deciding on weather the compromises are worth it(I wish it was a tad wider and a little better for low light but has been a strong consideration. So far I'm between the 24-105 f4 and the 17-55 2.8 I really like the sigma but I think I would take the higher f stop for a little more range.

    I like the comparison of the canon name brand vs sigma it really gives you perspective on how much you get for what price. Right now I'm thinking about what lens would be best for me, right now I'm fairly certain I'm going to go with a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 is USM Lens. It's much better than my kit 15-45mm and provides all the right qualities for good video, although the pictures could be a little better I don't think many people would notice the very minor discoloration or sharpness changes in a full photo with it. I'm mainly sold on it for the smooth, silent and fast auto focus in video mode.

    Completely blow away at the results at 2:48 and makes me wonder if the sigma was really at f2.8, that dof is so much better. Arguably a selling point of the cannon is that is can be used on ff. The ef can be found for $900 used and the sigma $500 used so not that much of a difference but interesting tests! Appreciate the time you took to put into this!

    Great video guys : )) The Sigma 18-35 and the 50-100 are pretty much the only two crop sensor lenses that can give you Full Frame results. You still need to multiply the Aperture by 1.6 and get 2.88 full frame equivalent but this is basically where any full frame bright apperture zoom starts from. I used them on my 70d for years. I switched to the EOS R and got the 16-35 f2.8L II and in terms of resolution the results are almost identical. If you own a full frame camera stick to the Canon unless you will shoot 4k with a crop or enter crop mode which drastically lowers your resolution. The Sigma is a great lens and it was way ahead of its time in my opinion it could easily handle a 40MP crop body.

    • @brandongonzales6374
      @brandongonzales6374 10 місяців тому +1

      Yes the 1.8 doesn’t change. The only thing he’s saying is the relative aperture at the same exact distance is higher because the crop sensor has a higher depth of field with all the settings the same. I don’t recommend anyone multiply the aperture because if you are using a super 35 sensor camera, your overall framing is going to be different. If you use a comparable lens that equals the same focal length, they will have the same exact look.

    What would you choose for shooting video in a small bedroom the EF 16-35 mk II or the 16-35 f4? or would you recommend another lens instead? I am currently shooting on a 200D, but I'm thinking maybe I will upgrade to the EOS R in a few months, so I think maybe I should get a full frame lens instead of a crop sensor lens. Please help if you can.

      @UNPLUGProductions  3 роки тому

      Hey Lee! Now that the R5 is out, we'd love an update on your choice! Not sure if it helps now, but for shooting in a small bedroom, a higher aperture might be your best bet to allow as much light in as possible. But it really depends on what you're trying to film. Obviously if it's something like a real estate video, you want as much light as you can gather, but if you're shooting an intimate narrative with controlled lighting, then an f/4 might be your choice

I want to start with two lenses (maybe a 3rd used one)and shoot around their capabilities. My list includes Sigma 16mm or Sigma 30 mm and a vintage, used 35 mm I know I need a zoom lenses (which may knock out the need for the others). I know there are a lot of variables. Follow up: I bought the sigma 18-35mm, I also have the Canon 17-55mm 2.8/f IS. Comparing Sigma 18-35mm vs Canon 17-55mm, I would say the Sigma feels better built maybe a touch sharper and the zoom and focus rings are much much smoother (this is after my Canon was serviced by Canon 2 times). I don't worry about dust being sucked into the lens Like I do with the canon. The biggest negative that everyone knows about is no IS, and this is a huge factor when considering the Sigma. As for "missed" or "soft" focus. I would say missed focus are close, with sigma missing a few more, around 10-15% more misses wide open.

    So here is my issue...
    Have a Sony a6000 and a Canon 6D
    Right now can only use mostly my a6000 and I was wondering if I should get a Sigma lens for both cameras to use with an adapter
    For example Sigma 18-35.
    Or thinking the other option: to get 2 lenses would be a Sigma 16mm f. 1.4 and a Rokinon 85mm manual focus for the Canon and Sony
    I think it would be almost the same price either way but sure what I should do or get to do great photography and videos anyway

      @@UNPLUGProductions thanks! I am definitely considering the 2nd option the most as well, just to have versatile on both cameras and they can actually complement each other, even though the sigma would be only for my Sony I think is the best option to have a wide angle on a budget

    I own the 18-35, and I love it!! Absolutely stellar image quality. But then I do not own a full-frame camera, and as wonderful as the Sigma is, you really shouldn’t buy it unless it’s for an APS-C camera, I think.
    By the way, US prices are always very low: When I bought the Sigma, I paid 4995kr which is about $780, including taxes. Now the price is 6395kr or about $1009. The Canon 16-35 for comparison is around 15000kr or $2366.

    • @razvit
      @razvit Рік тому +1

      @@johnthomas3941 The difference between the mark i, ii, and iii is mostly sharpness in the center/corners. So anything is OK, it depends on how much you crop and how big you want your prints. I make landscape photos and I only have 16-35 and 70-200. It covers landscape needs. I got an extra 50mm but that's mostly for portraits. Also keep in mind that 80d has an ASP-C sensor. So a 50 mm would be like a 75mm and a 16-35 would be like a 24-50mm. It's like that with all EF lenses except for the EF-S special ones.

    I use the Sigma on my EOS R for video.. 4k OR 1080 .. doesnt matter..
    The trick I do is when I want 1080p, I use Full Frame read out, and the digital Stabilization on max and the vignette is gone due to the Stabilization Crop and I can run at F1.8..
    You cant get that sort of stability with the 16-35 without sacrificing the wide aspect of it as well ( like the sigma)..
    So for me, the sigma is faster and cheaper and built like a dam tank ..
