Vocal Coach analysis of TOOL - The Pot

  • In this video, I analyse The Pot by Tool. I analyse all components of the music composition, including Maynard James Keenan's magnificent vocals. I will explain and demonstrate what I think made this song so great. Tool is an absolutely iconic band, especially in the progressive rock/metal music scene and this will be the second of many Tool songs I analyse!

    This song is a perfect example as to why Maynard requires that the music be finished before any lyrics are written by him. The band writes the music without Maynard and then it is sent to him so that he can do his own magic. Great reaction and breakdown.

    • @brandonhinrichs4393
      @brandonhinrichs4393 Рік тому +6

      He doesn't require it. That's just the way the band works. The only time Maynard and the band are in the same state let alone the same room is if they're touring. Otherwise they don't particularly like each other or get along but they recognize that what they create separately and combine is special

    • @ESUSAMEX
      @ESUSAMEX Рік тому +3

      @@brandonhinrichs4393 In an interview after the release of the last album, Maynard stated he told the guys to only send him the songs that were completed. He said he found it hard to get a feel for a song that wasn't musically finished. Once the song was musically done, Maynard was able to use the music as guide to write the lyrics.

    • @brandonhinrichs4393
      @brandonhinrichs4393 Рік тому +3

      @@ESUSAMEX actually he just said that he receives the songs complete before he writes lyrics. He did not say that he told them to not send him anything until it's complete. And the reality is Maynard has said that she is locked in to having to be on his vineyard a minimum of five months of the year including spring and summer. Which leaves seven months to be split between three bands. and his song writing approach is similar with Diet Tool. Sorry A perfect circle. And more traditional with Diet Caffiene free gluten free Soy Tool. Sorry Puscifer. And this has been the way they write and record since lateralus. The last time they sat in a studio and recorded was Aenema

      I know they're not like best friends.
      But is it really THAT bad?
      Like they hate each other with a passion? Didn't know that.
      And going by the way you describe A Perfect Circle and Puacifer, must I assume you don't really like those bands?
      Cheers!✌

    I didn't know you were such a fan, and definitely wouldn't have expected you to react the way you did, so into it!! which was a bad ass yet adorable surprise coming from you, well I'm so glad I had the chance to watch this amazing reaction, I'm also part of the Tool army but since late 90's... can't really put a finger on the year, but yeah, really that long ago, best thing is... nobody told me about them, I discovered them on my own and not by any suggestions, well besides from the store sales guy, in charge back in the day but I guess not even him knew about them, because he was like, "oh! I got something new, came to us like a week ago want to give it a listen?" and I was all "yeah sure, let's see what's in this thing... (and looking at the portrait) I said to myself "Tool...? hmm" ok! and then immediately it stuck to me, remember back then it was the AEnima album, that's the one that hooked me up to Tool, after that day I just kept thinking about what I had heard the day before and the next day I immediately went to buy it! I seemed like a little boy with a new toy, I didn't even listen to the guy who was telling me to listen to it again before buying it, all I wanted to do was to get home and listen to it, no interruptions and so excited about my new acquisition (don't know if acquisition is the right word, I'm Guatemalan, correct me if I'm wrong since I meant to say something like my recent purchase haha) had no idea I was becoming part of something bigger, "THE TOOL ARMY" which today I'm so proud to be a part of and know that I was there very very long ago and have never faltered, growing stronger with every new album, so I'd expect something more, like a new album besides "Fear Inoculum" which is also a highly elaborated composition and musical prowess at its best, just like everything before it! more like a continuance of Tool's great expertise in complex music, let's hope for the best guys!! unless I've not heard anything about Tool not making any more albums, update me please!!
    Sorry I got so extended on this and definitely all I wanted to say to you Fairy Voice Mother, I love all of your reactions not just Tool, you're definitely in the top 3 of my favorite reactors!! Greetings from Guatemala!!

    Lovely analysis as usual Lolli! I'm gonna throw my card on the table and suggest you react to The Warning, REALLY worth checking them out. 3 sisters that will conquer the world in the best way possible! :D

    So glad to discover you are part of the Tool army. This band has followed me for 30 years and has helped shape how I think and live my life. I don't know how I would have survived without them. I believe that Tool is the biggest and most important band in the world. Thanks for this great reaction ❤️

    I love when professionals actually get into the instrumentation of these songs like on this. So many channels only hear the vocals, when the instruments play so much of a role in so many songs.

    Great bands such as Tool and Sleep Token. Love them both. Completely different music in comparising what's on the radio or TV nowadays and i love it. Just saw the clip from the drummer playing Pneuma in a live concert. Wow, amazing. Top class.

    That scream and the punching riff at the end is the perfect crescendo to an absolute classic. The build up to that point has the head banging everytime...👌

    “All the bits are the best bits.” I laughed when you said this. When I first started listening to Tool the thing that struck me is how well the songs are engineered. There is nothing extraneous, nothing extravagant or wasteful in any of their songs. They give you nothing more, and also absolutely nothing less, than they mean to. That’s not to say they are not artful, because they obviously are. I never cease to marvel at the precision and craft that goes not only into the performances but also the composition and arrangement. Love ‘em or not, there’s no one like Tool.
