I've been a Tool fan for years, but suddenly I'm thinking....People roll their eyes at Tool now sometimes because the fans are known for being obnoxious, but decades from now when all the band members are gone, Tool will probably be known as one of the great legendary classic bands and be appreciated even more.
The whole band utilized Enochian Angelic magic to personally develop, and maximize their arts impact. The only other band to due this was Led Zeppelin.
Your observation is spot on, young lady. I have been a fan of Menard's work for years. Unique, lovely, inspiring, and painfully direct (for some), their music pulls deeply rooted strings in a human being and shakes them like nothing else. Investigating the meaning and inspiration for each song will open new doors as a new fan.
I must have seen a thousand Tool reactions at this point-and I've been an avid Tool junkie for most of my life-, but this one was exceptional. One of the best around. You two are effortlessly charming and endearing.
I completely agree and I was about to comment on that as well. If there are more reaction songs, I want to see these two again...with these two I know the pieces fit.
I remember in 96. I was 14 and my older brother said here you go little bro and gave me this album cassette tape. I was forever changed by this band. They became and still are my favorite band.
@@MountainBen29yep. You are correct. It is a covet and the original, by Peach, sounds like TOOL. Peach opened for Tool which brought attention to Justin as a replacement for Paul D'more.
They have been playing pushit live (last tour) and my goodness I cant remember singing with a crowd so damn hard like that ever. It was sincerely like a love letter to the crowd and the band at the same time. Maynard and Danny gave a massive high five after it. You can tell they enjoyed the feedback from the crowd. Grateful these guys are still together, firm handshakes to all of them.
new watcher here. i would like to say a few things. i have seen tool live a number of times and after their live show i feel like i have been beat up every time. its such an intense experience. the entire band are so amazing talented. they are almost alien live. like they dont move around on stage because you may see the cable that attatches their brains together. they can jam almost randomly for a half hour then suddenly on the 1 they alll come together like a kick in the chest. you go into a trance then get violently pulled out but in an amazing way. just such an amazing band and live experience.
Shrooms made them holy in my experience. I got sober and changed my life with Tool and APC as the trip soundtrack along with some deep meditations and focusing on forgiving myself and being dedicated to change as well. Came out on the other end a better me. Medicinal mushrooms could change the world.
I’m going to 16 and 17 this year for me and I always feel like I need a day off afterwards. Esp when the set is like this. One show in Boston a few years ago took the life outta me and I’m one of those guys that really sits and listens. Great way to put it
Most of the tabla in the track is Danny triggering sounds off the various pads on his kit. The part at 16:10 is one of the special moments where Danny's tabla instructor Aloke Dutta joined them on stage and the two are playing together.
Yes! I was looking for the “it’s Aloke Dutta” comment…I mean, i owned the Salival VHS and he was definitely listed in the credits…it got lost down the line; I’ve seen many reactions to this and I’m usually that guy. 😆
Great reaction, and I’m here for your Tool journey! Don’t worry about the pausing…Tool fans have heard these songs thousands of times and have probably watched tons of reactions, so they are here for your genuine and professional(as a singer) opinion. Maynard doesn’t consider himself a lead singer, he sees himself as another instrument in the band…a band which seems to have a lead drummer, a lead guitarist and a lead bassist, depending on the track. Can’t wait for to hear the breath control on The Grudge, which your friend eluded to, and for you to see the octopus Danny Carey in action on Pneuma…but as most will tell you, they don’t have a bad song, and each one is a different journey. Have fun spiraling out🌀!
Maynard is an interesting person and artist because even after 30 years of enjoying the music he makes, I still can't confidently say the stage performance is the artist reacting to the music or if it is all thought out and executed for maximum effect. He is a very honest and sarcastic and feminine and masculine and tough and soft person.
He has this weird way of moving that’s imo just overflowing talent with body-control and expression. To my knowledge, he’s never just danced in a “normal” way, but what’s funny is i think he would be a fantastic traditional dancer. He _has_ to “avoid the cliché” with every move and knows that if he lets himself be vulnerable and feels this thing we call music in an improvisatory way, actually reacting to it then it will be successful. So he looks “awkward” like that because he just has this thing for it and Tool’s music just amplifies it.
Greatest lead vocalists and showman in rock history Tool live is a life changing experience. No other musical performance will affect your mind, body, subconscious the way TOOL does.
Tool triggers that ancestor DNA when we used to do these chants before huge battles and before hunting our food. Our society today with supermarkets forgot what these chants gave us spiritually and tool unlocks that DNA that thousands of years ago was built for surviving.
She has a great insight, and He adds a nice comedic human touch to the show. It's a good dynamic. Hope they both do shows together again in the future.
The last Tool show I saw had preachers at the gates telling the audience that they were entering hell and I waited in line for the bathroom with a guy on several hits of acid freaking out because they started playing Jambi!! What an amazing night!
What I love is that you didn't just focus on Maynard, but also appreciate the other members of the band. It's pretty common to hear people laud Danny's drumming, but Adams guitar and Justin's bass just so seamlessly blend together. The entire musical experience is a mastery. The complexity that Tool puts into their music, yet still producing something beautiful is pretty rare in the rock/metal world. It's more something I'd expect from classical music.
Your (Both of you) did such a great analysis of the band, the vocals and the music. I have never seen such a comprehensive breakdown of all the intricacies of these guys. Thank you so much!!
Pushit is a song that explores the theme of being pushed to the edge by a toxic relationship. The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone who is struggling with their own inner demons and trying to find a way to cope with the pain and anger that they feel towards their partner. The song also reflects on the idea of redemption and forgiveness, as the speaker wants to make things right and heal the wounds that they have inflicted on each other. There are different interpretations of what the song means, and I think that’s part of its beauty. Some people think that the song is about Maynard James Keenan’s childhood abuse and how he dealt with it as an adult. Others think that the song is about drug addiction and how it affects one’s mental state and relationships. Some even think that the song is about meditation and finding inner peace. I think that the song can mean different things to different people, depending on their own experiences and emotions. I think that’s what makes Tool such a great band, because they create songs that are not only musically amazing, but also lyrically profound and meaningful. They challenge their listeners to think deeply and critically about themselves and the world around them.
In this video, Christina points out the techniques that we, as Tool listeners and fans, have noticed and felt in this track forever. The reason I love good reaction videos is that some experts like her have a depth of understanding to describe the performance with amazing clarity. It's great that she likes and admires it, and even more to break it down.
I paid for a lap dance to this song. The poor girl had no clue, she quit after 3 minutes and then we talked for the last 9 or so minutes. She appreciated the break.
5:12 Rock certainly has angrier music, but when things mellow down, when the acoustic guitars come out, a certain magic happens, and Tool is definitely one of the best at expressing those different layers together. Thanks for sharing your reaction and thoughts on the song! Looking forward to Lateralus and Parabol/a, if y'all find a chance, though their whole discography has something to offer
whomever has been in a toxic environment with his/her partner in this situation will shiver everytime this song plays. It's so emotionally strong and heavy. I had to go through some shit with an ex of mine to really connect to what he's trying to convey.
Yes - this song makes me feel sick, but somehow it’s not in a bad way. It’s just so intensely spot on. One of my favorites. Would love to see her reaction to Songs for Marie & 10,000 Days. That build up can bring me to tears.
I just found your channel through your Jinger reaction and I never expected to see Eugene here. Feels like worlds colliding for me. Wishing you the best!
The wine reference is so dead on. Just stumbled on this vid as an avid tool fan and it's amazing to see someone who isn't familiar with them experience them for the first time. Live the show is possibly the most fantastic a person can experience. It'll shake you to your marrow.
Loved this and your video on The Grudge! Was very pleasantly surprised by the presence of Eugene Teo as well, was not expecting to see him in a video like this but it makes sense that he'd listen to tool
The algorithms brought me here 👍👍 Such an amazing tune. I think I've listened to this version a thousand times over, and it still brings chills. Always so cool watching someone reacting to Tool for the first time...they are, truly, a unique blend of talent, and there is nothing that comes close. Because there is simply nothing like them. Great vid, horns up 🤘🤘
Wow. Great reaction. I just happened to glance down and saw so few subscribers and thought you must be fairly new. You're gonna crush it on this channel (subscribed). 🙏
One lead singer who I would put in the same league as Maynard in the world of Rock is Skin from Skunk Anansie. They are an old UK band from the 90s and really underrated. Check out I can dream from their first album, she is phenomenal
Totally agree, there's something about this version that just hijacks my body and tears start coming out of my eyes as this like autonomic response. It's always a surreal experience.
when she's breaking down the first part of the song it's giving me goosebumps knowing what's coming up. i'm at just over twelve minutes into this video right now.
Tool is my favorite band and this is one of my ALL time favorite songs, next to their tracks "3rd Eye" and "Reflection". Thanks for breaking down such a phenomenal song!
Wow, what a great Tool reaction. It reminds me of the watching "Tool Fans Being Born", how the eyes of newbs are opened to a whole new world of musical aptitude and complexity
Choosing a favourite Tool song is virtually impossible for me. But I'm so glad you went with this live version of Pushit to listen to. If you told me I could only listen to one Tool song again for the rest of my life it would be this song, and this Salival version. I always find this song when I'm around rock bottom of my depression and it always marks the ascent back to the surface. I was listening to 46 & 2 earlier today in a "I need some Aenima in my head" moment and here I am again back to Pushit. Up we go I guess. Ah Tool, been my best friend since '96. lol. Fuck, I feel old.
It's always very exciting to see someone reacting to my favorite band, since i can no longer do it, it kinda takes me back to when i heard any song for the first time
Actually, Danny's tabla teacher (Aloke Dutta) sat in on this recoding. So there are two drummers for this specific performance. EDIT: Do the 3rd Eye video from the same show🌀🤘
True, but Danny does simultaneously play some of his mandala drums too and on other live performances has done it without him which is insane to me haha
@tool46n2 Yes, no doubt. 💯 However, the live performance of the "Salival" version they watched is not quite the same as the album version. But I will never go as far as to say he isn't the 🐙 Simply making a factual statement about this specific recording.
I know I am WAY late to this reaction, but I just subscribed because 1- I love Tool and 2- you have great insight and depth of thought. I found it ironic @ around 27:30 you were talking about wine. I am sure you probably know by now but Maynard has a vineyard and makes wine, I believe in Arizona
One of the best discussions of this amazing performance I’ve ever had the pleasure! Thank you! Can’t wait for more Tool anything, honestly! And another solid path would be APC - The Doomed! 😊
One of my very favourite Tool songs (and I know them all) - this version of Pushit - gives me the big, big feels every single time. Feel it from my head to my toes, in every cell of my body.
I enjoyed this reaction. It was so enjoyable to watch both of you- you shocked and awed and his joy in watching you discover their genius musicianship. Just stumbled upon your page. Great job! PS- I love your green blouse 👌
Discovered your channel just this day. I really hope you can find the time and inspiration to upload some more. Going into great bands like Tool is really fun, but also the in-depth reactions and occasional humor in your videos is a very sweet combination. Thanks for posting the fun content, I had a blast this evening after a hard days work!
As a drummer and lifelong Tool fan, I appreciate you also appreciate the other musicians. What you said at 24:10 - that's the reaction people that know will say every damn time. Danny is beyond "good", he's a literal drumming god.
As a prog. rock devotee, I have been listening to Tool for decades. My Tool journey continues with their upcoming tour for which I recently bought tickets. They have slowly morphed from progish-metal to metallic-prog and have delighted me along the way. Your analysis is spot on. I smiled and laughed my way through your video because your reactions and observations are so much like my own. Know that, with Tool, there is no novelty; there's nothing to wear off. The fascination lasts a lifetime.
Tool has grown since the side stage at lollapalooza. Those days are long gone, but the tool has maintained those crazy lyrics and great riffs and beats for many decades. Thank you, Tool .
Great video! Great song selection that I don't see mentioned as often. This version hijacks my body and I just start crying every time I hear it. Every time. I loved the guys side eye knowing what was coming haha! It's interesting that you mentioned the theater aspect. I could be losing my mind but I swear Maynard was in a play. I can't think of the name, I didn't see it, but I can't imagine it's not weird as hell.
Great review! Your emotion and banter is awesome. Tool always brings out the musical geniuses and you guys are spot on analyzing these guys. Keep it going. (only criticism - I hate hard edits. Let the conversation go on. We'll watch an hour long episode!)
Pause as often as you want, please. As a die-hard Tool fan I thought I'd peeled back most of the layers to these songs, but your perspective exposes layers I never would have found. Thanks for sharing!
Great video y'all. I quit enjoyed it. Congratulations on your enlistment into the Tool Army! The journey begins. You really nailed some of the aspects which sets them apart from the crowd; the talent, the unique creativity, etc. The truth is (at least according to some of us) that there is all other music and then there is Tool. You asked what next. Well, a one of "those" Tool fans, I definitely have a couple suggestions. Pneuma is awesome. Lateralus is very cool as well. Maybe The Grudge, Jimmy, Vicarious, or Descending, it's hard to go wrong with Tool. Thanks for the video! Can't wait for more!
The song(s) Maynard doesn't particularly like to do much. 10,000 Days &Wings for Marie. They go together as 1. Judith Marie Keenan was his mother. 10,000 days is how long she lived from her paralyzing aneurysm til death. ...it's painfully beautiful
Aenima live 2019 would be a fun one. It's when he's older and his on-stage presence is different, so it might be interesting for ya. Great video! I'm subbed
16:04 - He has a bunch of electronic pads (he uses Synesthesia Mandala pads now) that trigger tabla samples live, so he's likely using sticks for this. For records, he plays on actual tablas with his hands. That said, I believe he's also played a tabla duet with his teacher live before.
Sub'd! Can't wait. Re: Maynard, I don't even hear lyrics the first few dozen times listening to a new Tool song. It's all about delivery, emotion, and flow.
Push it is a phenomenal song in any version! Such baited anticipation, knowing what is coming watching her experience it for the first time. I would love to have seen my reaction hearing this stellar performance the first time! PS, she has a great voice and carry!! 5:42… Yes ma’am!!
I love content like this around one of my favorite Bands of all time. Each person talking and reacting to it Positive or negatively is such a rich and energizing experiance. I have not thought about the specific of the chant style befor you mentioned it, but i have felt that connection subconsciously. Thanks so much looking forward to more content in any direction!
Thanks!
Thanks so much Matt! It's still early days for this channel so your contribution will help me keep it going!

Awesome reaction!I would love to see more tool reactions and any other bands that make great music.Great combo between the two of you.
when she's breaking down the first part of the song it's giving me goosebumps knowing what's coming up. i'm at just over twelve minutes into this video right now.
Love ya bud
Tool is my favorite band and this is one of my ALL time favorite songs, next to their tracks "3rd Eye" and "Reflection". Thanks for breaking down such a phenomenal song!
He has said he always finds the melody first and writes the lyrics after. Maynard is an awesome person.
Wow, what a great Tool reaction. It reminds me of the watching "Tool Fans Being Born", how the eyes of newbs are opened to a whole new world of musical aptitude and complexity
Watching someone experience this particular melody for the first time always brings a smile and a sense of melancholy.
Thank you.
Wonderful reaction. 💕
Your reactions bring a whole new light to this band for me.
Thank you
Choosing a favourite Tool song is virtually impossible for me.
And “No Quarter” from this album as well!
😂 I came here specifically to say this.
@@noahbernatz2050 I was surprised I was the 1st
Absolutely loved this reaction.❤
An experience of fire.
Thank You!
Upvote. Tool reaction. it will end no other way. IT WILL END NO OTHER WAYYYYYYY.
You did it 👏 & said it right, He dances wherever his body & music takes him, thank you for saying that.
Actually on this recording Danny's tabla mentor/master, Aloke Dutta, is playing with him.
This is my second vid I've seen of yours, first was the sober vid...you have a wonderful voice👍
One of my very favourite Tool songs (and I know them all) - this version of Pushit - gives me the big, big feels every single time. Feel it from my head to my toes, in every cell of my body.
Danny is a jazz drummer. He was a studio jazz drummer in LA when Tool was started.
Gotta show her the drum cam next! Awesome reaction!
I just subscribed to you because your knowledge and honest insightful reaction.
Perfect. Worth multiple watches. ! to hear the song again, 2 to watch her reaction, 3 to watch his reaction to her reaction.
I enjoyed your take. Thank you
As a drummer and lifelong Tool fan, I appreciate you also appreciate the other musicians.
What is Eugene doing here!!! Unexpected collaboration haha, he has great content
Also that he's a tool fan.. even more respect
Tool has grown since the side stage at lollapalooza. Those days are long gone, but the tool has maintained those crazy lyrics and great riffs and beats for many decades. Thank you, Tool .
Nice Plini shirt. Just discovered them and I’m liking them.
Maynard usually writes the lyrics after hearing the music they don't normally sit together and create
thank you guys !!
The hell? Eugene Teo in the house? Tool and one of my favourite fitness content creators? Hoooooly!
🤘
Love the reaction many great tool songs ahead!
That was awesome!!!
Look how happy he is to share TOOL.. I get the same smiling face haha :P
Appreciate this! Thanks 🙏🏼
Can't wait for more!
the left screen/right screen difference is hilarious. Its "i know whats coming..." vs "I have no idea"
Maynard is so incredible. I would love to her you make some more reactions.
Haha, keep it up!
Haha I was not expecting to see Eugene show up while I’ve been scrolling through vocal coach videos.
The song(s) Maynard doesn't particularly like to do much. 10,000 Days &Wings for Marie. They go together as 1.
Judith Marie Keenan was his mother. 10,000 days is how long she lived from her paralyzing aneurysm til death. ...it's painfully beautiful
Understandable, going back to that headspace to sing those again must be rough..
So happy to be catching you at the start of your Tool journey , seen them live 5 times and every experience was different.. loving it so far.. 🇦🇺
That did it. Awesome reaction. Subscribed for more Tool.
James Maynard is a trip!!!! The man really can sing!!! Enjoy you two!!!!!! And have a great 2024!!!....................
What the heck! I was watching TOOL reactions and heres Teo! I watch his exercise videos lol, crazy!
OMFG I've been waiting for someone to react to this version of the song holy shit I can't wait! Also sweet Plini shirt
