I realized Freya was so deadset on revenge that she had to hide her face as a Valkyrie for Kratos to actually fight her instead of brushing off her attacks along with evading her.
Vengeful people tend to become suicidal and self-destructive just to get retribution.
We've seen people putting on masks to cover their tracks or to avert blame lots of times in stories, this is the first time I see someone do that specifically so the foe wouldn't pull their punches.
Bruh she literally is the leader of Valk lol
Hold up...... Bruh she's THE Valkerie
Freya being a Valkyrie is indeed a clever way to trick Kratos into fighting her and not avoiding her. She found a way to make Kratos realise she’s a threat to him after all despite her still being bound to Midgard as well as her previous lack of ability to fight.
Kratos did not forget that it was Freya who saved Atreus when he was sick and dying, he cant bring himself to kill her he owes her to much and he understands her pain
Hopefully he doesn't accidently kill her like he did to Athena.
@@nexusprime2487 she ran into the blade so
Well i mean even if kratos die, he will find a way to live again
@@gamerr9950 No he won't he is mortal.
@@WhatTheDogDoin0493 not a normal mortal, he literally climb his way to live again
The moment she droped with the valkyrie signature kick move and the valkyrie theme started blasting gave serious PTSD
Glad I'm not alone ahah
I got hyped. Was disappointed when the fight ended so quickly.
I had jus beat Sigrun on GMGOW so this is beyond felt lmao
I wasn't ready
I was scared she was going to do that Valhalla curb stomp on me multiple times.😨😨
if you read the journal Kratos says of how he refuses to fight her because he considers her a friend.
Makes sense because despite his hatred for gods, she proved her self different. They shared common traits, both being parents that unlike thor, odin and zeus cared for their childs lives more than their own.
She aided them on their journey countless times, resurrecting mimir, accessing the bifrost, enchanting atreus bow, and what I'm sure won kratos over was her saving his son from the brink of death.
of course he wouldn't want to even try to kill her despite her countless attempts of killing them both.
She, like Kratos once was, is blinded by anger over the loss of the only one she loved.
They are so similar in one way, both wanted revenge for the death of someone they loved, Kratos understands what she is feeling, the hate, the grief, the sadness.. he doesn't want to her follow the same path he once did.. the sadness part its because killing Baldur it's the only way to stop him.
Freya and Kratos are so different, and the same in one way.
(Sorry if there have some write errors, English is not my native language).
Kratos didn't know she was freya, he didn't hold back here
He also makes the final decision to refuse Odin’s offer because he refused to let Odin bring her any more harm.
@@Rapidfire94 Bruh, he clearly realizes right before she "overpowers" him
@Bully Maguire no kratos looked at freyas sword at recognized it from earlier then after that he did drop his guard

seeing freya at 3:01 look over at kratos taking atreus into his arms, expressing care and worry about his current state whilst she slowly remembers all about her own child baldur. then she slowly cripples into a pile of rage and misery, releasing all of those urges of killing kratos into one single action. i feel for the woman
The acting and animation on her face was sublime. You could see the thoughts just rushing through her head at breakneck speed.
Especially the difference between her family, and Kratos'.
While she had her son come for her head, after all the love she poured out for Baldur, because her fears for her child overcame her sensibility. Kratos pushed his child to be better and to face his fears, and now when he is at death's door, his son charges in to save his father's life.
The love they showed each other must've burned her heart like nothing else could.
What happened to Baldur is all her fault. And if she had gotten her way, Baldur would have suffered what HE himself considered WORSE than death. She's honestly a horrible, selfish person and mother.
It’s her flawes and struggles which make her so relatable. And the way she overcame them. That’s why she is so beloved by everyone and considered to be a strong woman and a strong character.
The acting there is a masterpiece
@@basedmarlon I've never seen so much intensity, hatred, and genuine stress from a single scene as much as what we just witnessed. Freya's acting in this moment was truly one of the greatest things I've gotten to witness.
This was writing masterfully done. Freya was at war with herself. In her core Freya is a good person and doesn't enjoy hurting others, but she was so lost in her grief and pain that it all she could think about was vengeance. To make it worse is that it is against the people she has grown fond of (Atreus) and respected (Kratos) and those conflicting feelings come to a boil in which she lets out an anguish scream as this was her best chance to kill Kratos but she couldn't fully commit herself to doing it.
She lucky kratos realised who she was otherwise she dead 💀
@@tse6670 He would rip her wings. Kill? I do not know.
A character arc we've seen time and time again. It's cliche really. Not saying it's bad. Simply just nothing new.
@@blankblank4522 you say this as if we can't appreciate it for what it is :/
I wouldn't call her a good person after what she done to baldur but you do you
Vanadis was actually another Name for Freya in Norse Myth.
True, Mardǫll along with Vanadís. Though they continue to misspell her name Freyja.
True, I instantly know this is Freya so this scene lost the elements of surprise for me lol
@@Terror_Official Maybe because people would have a problem spelling it? i know that quite many europeans says j with y.
@@mfawazgtirtoadjie9852 They're correct to do so. The j in Freyja's name does in fact make a y sound /j/. The difference here though is that the -ey- part of her name makes a separate diphthong that is basically only preserved by Faroese, /ˈfrɔɪːja/. This makes her name pronounced like Froya (while the rest of the North Germanic languages have adopted Freja), which makes the first Y important to conveying its Old Norse sound and not a modern corrupted/evolved one.
I don't think people would have a hard time spelling it, but pronouncing it I could see as an issue. But it's up to the reader to educate themselves on the subjects of what they're viewing, not the Game Dev to teach you history and language. Having her name be Freyja sparks the question to the reader of; "Why is she named as such (when we've always seen it as Freya)?". This is a good thing to spark in your games, helps immerse you in the world.
Man, Freya is easily my favourite character in the whole Norse saga. That's some top quality "good person wrestling with themselves because their pain is making them do something bad" content right there.
@AZOG THE TERROR Ooooh shut it with the cringe bud'.
@AZOG THE TERROR Could be cringe if it wasn't God of War.

HOLY CRAP KRATOS ACTUALLY CALLED SOMEBODY HIS FRIEND!?
He had a friend long ago remember Orkos?
@@EarlofChucklechester yeah and he was forced to kill him, in order for kratos to regain his memories or something.
@@ashwolf2006 Break his blood oath to Ares, and yeah, he did regain the memories of the awful deeds he committed.

And a god no less
I think that as much as Freya wanted revenge for Baldur she would have never killed Atreus. And if she did I don't know what Kratos would have done. Kill a pantheon again?
He would have definitely put her six feet under. And anyone who stood in his way. And anyone who came to avenge her afterward.
Yes
No more Ragnarok because Kratos IS Ragnarok
Idk man it's hard to imagine Freya killing atreus... I don't think she'd ever do that no matter how vengeful she is.
And Kratos would have failed
Brok came out of nowhere and became a Third wheel of the party is hilarious
and Freya just Sigh him lol
Fun fact: in the 2018 game, the Dwarves NEVER share a screen with Freya, that small detail makes it a bit more hilarious.
Man, what a scene. Even there, Kratos spared Freya and stopped Atreus. Such amazing characters!
"Every agony. Every violation imaginable."
If I didn't know this was GOW Ragnarok, I'd think I'd be watching 50 Shades of Grey.
The way she held his head during that scene and when she bonded/binded Odin, 'bow to your queen'. Definitely Goth Dommy Mommy vibes.

Atreus: “Stop, we can free you!”
Mimir: “I think she’s free enough, lad.” 😂😂😂
How fantastic was Freya's scream at the end when she realizes she won't be killing Kratos? Anger, grief, desperation, longing, helplessness. You can see everything going through Freya's mind right then and there. Danielle Bisutti is just phenomenal in this game.
I think the fact Kratos knows exactly how Freya feels, what she's going through because he has been in that state himself in the past, is quite interesting indeed. This is not to mention the respect Kratos has for certain individuals like her, shows growth and evolution from the nigh merciless, bloodthirsty killing machine he used to be in the past. His character development across these 2 games has been incredible, where you almost feel what he feels.
The pause when he says Freya is great. You can see his lips move to say her name but he can't believe it. Lip's movement "fr - fr" "freya" Great touch and acting.
3:20 man that scream, top-notch voice acting
Kratos really out here giving Atreus everything he wasn’t given in his younger days.
4:53 😂😂😂 Lmao the way it cut to Brok and how tiny he is.
The fact Freya hid herself dressed as the Valkyrie she once was just shows how she knows Kratos refuses to fight her, and the answer is simple.... It's a win-win situation for her.
If she manages to kill Kratos, then the blood debt is paid and she avenged her son.
If he kills her, which she knows that it's the most likely scenario, he will have to forever live with the grief of killing the woman who saved his son and called him friend. One more suffering for him to endure.
Kratos loses either way.
Exactly what kratos said.
Oh my god. They actually brought back that damn stomp attack.
That attack was so cheap yet drains like 40% of your hp, goddamn.
Man, Freya with her valkyrie powers back is insane!
2:13 Freya be like- Damn Kratos your head is smooth. Do you shave with the axe?
The game itself not only is a wonderful story but it also teaches you the value of being a better person in real life and Kratos is teaching us so much right now. Let's be honest we all have anger that we don't want to forgive but saying that makes you realize so much you can't disagree. Thank you Kratos and thank you developers
For the sake of our children, we must be better.
This is not what you hear from your average pc games or ps games regularly.
This game is amazing in terms of character development but I do miss the old kratos vibes, having a rage filled kratos dig into Norse mythology would have been crazy.

Marty and Freya would not likely let him did it. Yeah, Atreus is a teen with many surprise and potential, but his power it's not yet mature enough to fight an actual God in one on one fight. Especially someone like Freya who are the highest rank Goddess you can found in this story.
