What’s crazy about this is that Hiemdall can read the mind and memories and thoughts of someone by looking into their eyes. When Mimir told Kratos “this isn’t who you want to be” I feel that definitely sparked memories of all of his past actions and as Hiemdall was looking into his eyes in his last moments he finally realized what Kratos really was, thus his last words being “Monster
Kratos gave a lot of mercy even when he was young. He just wanted either Zeus or Ares and had no problem letting people go as long as they don't stand in his way.
@@redlor0258 Mate. You completely trying to forget that Kratos tried to reason with Hercules? Ignored Hera until she trash talked Pandora who he treated as a daughter? There's a lot more throughout the old games that is vivid memory to me at this point. Like I said Young Kratos had no problem letting people pass by as long as they don't stand against his way with Zeus.
@@redlor0258 Kratos tried to reason with some of the gods and demi-gods, as he still have some sort of respect for some of them though very little but instead of letting him pass they went out of their way to give kratos the middle finger. but most of the time kratos was completely impulsive and was acting on pure anger especially in GOW3 where his anger clouded most of his actions.
If you really think about it, Heimdall is the only person who has ever truly SEEN the Ghost of Sparta. All the other gods have merely heard stories of the Ghost of Sparta or just have an idea of what he is capable of. Heimdall, given his ability, is able to see people’s memories when he looks into their eyes and when he looked into Kratos’ eyes, he SAW what Kratos was, he saw THE Ghost of Sparta. He saw Kratos killing Baldur, Magni, Poseidon, Hermes, Helios, Hades, Ares, The Sisters of Fate, Thanatos, Persephone, Hercules, Perseus, Hera, Cronos, Hephaestus, Perses (Titan), Gaia, The Furies, Icarus, Charon, Theseus, Athena, Zeus, Callisto and his family. He saw it all in those last few seconds of life. He will forever be the only one in that realm to have ever seen what the Ghost of Sparta was truly capable of if you fucked with him.
one thing i noticed, At 4:09 When Kratos finally lands the hit on Heimdall he grabbed his arm instead of trying to hit him. He anticipated he would try to block his haymaker and grabbed his arm throwing him off balance. Because he blocked in the series of blows before that one. That really shows how much of a tactical genius Kratos is.
In another video I saw another comment who made an analysis of the fight and what Kratos did was just so impressive. The summary of it was that Kratos repeated the same combo 3 times. The first was to test his skill and how powerful was Heimdal’s insight. The second was to see how well trained Heimdal was with his ability, Kratos repeated the combo just faster. If heimdal had perfected the ability he would’ve blocked the entire combo but he hit his braces realizing that heimdal never practiced to perfect the ability. The final one was to land the hit. Realizing that Heimdal never practiced and used his power as a crutch he repeated the combo a final time tricking him and grabbing his arm to land a hit he never expected, confusing him and with it winning the fight from that point. Santa Monica studios definitely outdid themselves, the Nordic saga is just wonderfully made
@@digitaldruglord1815 Buddy that is literally *what* the comment is saying💀 that is extremely tactical thing to do when you’re fighting a guy, who, yano..see what you’re going to do before you even know it?
Sun Tzu said "One may know how to conquer without being able to do it." Heimdall might be able to read Kratos' attacks, but just because you know you'll face an onslaught of brutal, overpowering strikes doesn't mean you can consistently defend against them, especially when your opponent is an experienced war god with anger management issues and twice as much muscle mass as you. Once a grizzly has locked you in a bear hug, knowing it'll break your spine a few seconds in advance won't help one bit.
It's interesting to compare the reactions of Heimdall and Baldur when their invulnerability is threatened. Baldur appreciates it, while Heimdall is offended. Shows how far gone Baldur was by that point.
Baldur wasn’t gone…he went his entire life without feeling anything. His mom put a spell on him to protect him to where he couldn’t feel pain but he couldn’t feel anything. Pain, pleasure, happiness. He never got to experience sex or anything with feeling. So when he felt pain he appreciated being able to feel something. How the hell did you come away with that assumption lol
I love how unlike the other asgardians who LOVE the thrill of fighting Kratos, Heimdall is genuinely mad that he was able to be challenged. Really shows how prideful he was. You'd think he'd be excited to finally find someone able to land a blow on him but nope. He throws a tantrum
i mean, i feel like that might be a more reasonable reaction. if I went centuries never even being hit in a fight, then I got into a fight with someone I'm literally PROPHECIZED to kill, and he was able to land a hit on me? i'd be terrified for my life
When you realize that when Heimdall said "Monster" he wasn't calling him one, he was stating what he saw. He truly was the only being in Norse Mythology to actually see who and what the Ghost of Sparta was. The rest heard downplayed stories but Heimdall actually SAW young Kratos slaughtering the whole Greek pantheon as well as his own family, he truly saw a monster.
I also think Heimdall called him that because Kratos doesn’t want to revert to his old ways by ruthlessly murdering gods like a monster, but here he has no choice as he wants it protect his son. Heimdall saw that and called him a monster knowing Kratos doesn’t want to be one but is doing what he used to do.
I felt bad for kratos in this scene. He’s trying his hardest to overcome his old ways of the monster he used to be, and heimdall really hurt his feelings with that one word.
No, Heimdall saw Kratos`s own selfhate upon getting controlled by his anger. He called him monster because he knew that would trigger him. Kratos was thinking "I`m not like this anymore" and Heimdall replied "you are, get mad"
10:23 Kratos missing the horn the first time was actually a legitimate mess up by Christopher Judge, but Director Eric Williams loved Kratos being a little in shock at the gravity of what he just did, so it stuck in the final game.
He doesn’t deserve it, he was far to pathetic to deserve that kind of defeat. The only thing that sore losers like HeimDOLT deserves is to get gutted by the apathetic side Kratos, and then just simply forgotten like the worthless, cowardly, piece of shit he’s always been and always will to be for the rest of time.

I like how Heimdall gloats about feeling Kratos' frustration, withour realizing its actually bubbling up into anger. And an angry Kratos is a very, very dangerous Kratos
He's probably upset because he's trying not to kill Heimdall, even though he probably wants to punch the life out of this proud-for-no-reason a**hole. He's trying to be a better person, and a good person won't kill other people if not for self-defense. That's why he spared him by the end of round 1. But Heimdall is a self-righteous, cowardly wretch who can only guarantee his victory if he fights against children, like Atreus or Thrud. He couldn't let someone do this to his fragile ego and decided to throw his life away for a non-existing chance of victory against a true god.
One thing I noticed while rewatching this is that the fight doesn't end with the player pressing R3 to do a finisher like you normally would, Kratos delivers the final blows all on his own. That's a really cool and subtle way to show how Kratos loses control in the heat of the moment and it makes the realization of what he's done hit even harder in the end
Interesting inversion of the end of the God of War 3 where the fight only ends when the player stops mashing the button to beat up Zeus which was also a way of showing how he was out of control. Like in that game it was to show how Kratos was fully responsible for his actions, but now in contrast he's basically on autopilot in his anger. Which kind of makes sense given that he's gotten old and become wiser but the whole god killing thing has just become routine for him at this point.
It's these kinds of enemies that deserve the "old" Kratos. Just imagine, the pure rage and brutality of GOW3 Kratos vs these Asgardians. It would feel like a speedrun.
The reason why krato is too powerful in god of war 2 and 3 is because there are too many people who pray for him before they go to War, since he's the new god of war. Plus he only grew stronger when the Olympian Gods declared war on him because the god of war feeds on Warfare making kratos the strongest god in all Greece.

Heimdall called Kratos a monster because when he looked into Krato’s eyes before dying (how he reads minds,) he saw Kratos’ old memories of killing the greek gods and what he did to Olympus. You can tell Kratos was thinking about these memories while choking Heimdall due to his face. Heimdall just so happened to witness all of it before he died, thus why he called him a monster.
I love the moment when kratos is throwing punches at Heimdall. He goes slow at first throwing absolute haymakers just to test out the speed, second time a little faster, tighter punches and eventually makes contact on the bracer with the left hook. Then the third time he just volume punches at high speed throwing a 6 punch combination and is able to predict Heimdall’s dodge before he makes it but finally catching him with a right overhand. So bad ass and such a great visual representation showing how kratos breaks down his enemies and their fighting styles. He’s not a mindless warrior, he is rather intelligent and uses it silently in battle.
It's not that the 3rd round of fists was just faster, it learned off the 2nd by replicating it but altering the end where as opposed to the last punch being simply thrown he turned it into a grab to disarm his block and guaranteeing that last hit that did connect
@@JamesSavignac good read I didn’t even notice that. This is the best fight in the game in my opinion, the attention to detail here is astounding. And I especially love how the beginning is a fist fight that becomes an absolute nightmare of a fight for Heimdall, first time he’s legitimately challenged and hes killed immediately lol
One thing I noticed is that from the moment you first punch Heimdall to the moment the fight is over, Heimdall's stun bar is always at max. It doesn't matter how much/little stun damage you do to him, it never changes. I believe this was a great way to demonstrate how Heimdall's senses became overloaded due to the fact that someone had actually hit him for the first time in forever. It's details like these that really make the boss fights great.

I love how all the Gods of all the games threaten Kratos and call him a monster and mock him and then are surprised when he beats them down. He killed you because you threatened his son/hurt his family like wtf do you expect 💀 and all of the Gods mocking him are just as monstrous if not more
It is normal why it is like that, remember this: Almost all gods and best example norse gods are born into a godly family were everyone is beneath them and much, much weaker. So they never needed to really learn to fight, loose, needing to really fight hard in a fight, do strategy etc. and all while their whole childhood is doing nothing and your family telling you how great you are and a god and you literally just do what thor does, drinking beer and that's it. And IF there is some problem you just go and beat it in 5 seconds without any need to really hit hard.
It's cuz they're so used to beating up mortals and weaker creatures and threatening their lives and families, and there's nothing they can do so they beg. They neglected the fact that Kratos too is a God, and one that does NOT beg.
It's because you're up against someone that hasn't been touched in over a century as Mimir said taking him down with his ability of foresight was a huge *if* but as you seen foresight means nothing if you can't react fast enough
It's because Kratos was holding back. The first 2 times Kratos tries to hit him, his punches are slow, making Heimdall think he's not skilled. On the 3rd attempt, Kratos's punches are Insanely fast and well coordinated which caught Heimdall off guard.
6:09 I just love the detail of how much pain he felt through his body when kratos put the spear into his arm. He practically begged him to stop because he never felt pain in his life before.
Oh, he remembers pain, and (unlike Baldur until his final battle) feels pain. But I don't think he ever dealt with the pain of a spear through his arm before.
Okay, I cannot lie. I respect Heimdall. He was a mad shit talker but he still wanted the smoke and never begged for his life. Also Mimir should take this with a grain salt as the death choke is honestly the tamest/cleanest kill we've seen Kratos do compared to his usual "creative" methods of killing someone that pisses him off
He wanted the smoke because he really thought he couldn’t be beat. If he thought there was even a chance he could be beaten, he wou don’t have fought kratos. But then again he doesn’t have a slight perception of loss because of his abilities, so even knowing kratos’s full story probably wouldn’t shake him up because he’s entitled.

This depiction of Heimdall is top notch. People seem to think that his ego and abrasiveness are insufferable, but we're talking about a God who can see right into your mind and true intentions. He knew Kratos and Loki would bring nothing but ruin to the Aesirs, yet his warnings were ignored. He has every right to be both smug and hostile. A world ending prophecy where he and everyone he's associated with is going to die is about to come true, and he can clearly see who's going to be responsible for it. You really won't find a better gate guard than him. Mind you, he even knew when Atrues was climbing the wall and when the boy was going to slip. He's not a fool at all.
for me he had certain potential to be more than just a final violent enemy to kill but this is GoW so "redemption" for a person is never really an option unless that person is kratos

Heimdall is the epitome of “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” There’s a big difference between being able to tell what someone will do, and being able to do anything about it.
@@archnemesis2.0It's not really overplayed, it's just immensely overpowered compared to Heimdall's foresight. Think about it, from Peter's perspective it slows down time. It's pretty easy for him to dodge.
It's interesting how Heimdall reinforce what the Norns said to Kratos before: after being defeated he had a choice, he could accept the pity and surrender or continue to fight. His fate was in his hands. What caused his death was not a prophecy it was his nature, his pride and his inability to accept that someone could be so much stronger than he could afford to spare him. Basically he shows that you can't change your fate if you don't change yourself.
Prophecies are mean to happen not matter what, not in the same way as is written but it will happen anyway. For example Kratos received help from the oracle to defeat Ares because the oracle had prophesied that the god of war would bring the destruction of Olympus. When Ares was defeated it was supposed to be the end of the prophecy......but Kratos became the god of war and destroyed Olympus.
i am not a lore expert, but Hermes was just a messenger so he never really fought nor he had any skill to fight. Heimdall on the other hand is basically Hermes alternate account.
Heimdall’s death may not be very brutal compared to the previous games, but it’s worth noting how quickly he died when Kratos lost his shit and threw his mercy plans out the window. Once Heimdall threw dirt in his face and he snapped, he killed Heimdall in seconds with his bare hands.
Kratos had plot Draupnir. Without that, Heimdall would in fact be untouchable, and would've beaten Kratos without getting hit. Proof? Try fighting him without using the Draupnir explosions.

Actually on the third move, he just did something extremely obvious, he grabbed his wrist and pulled him to his punch. Honestly, I know they were trying to be cautious but, even faster than kratos, he's just too much for poor ol heimdall XD
Also the 3rd combo Kratos did was the same one he did the 2nd time. He just baited heimdall into thinking he’s gonna use the same move so that when heimdall blocked with his right hand again he would know what to do
@@kunzat4198 You can tell from the combinations Kratos is throwing. I like how in the 3’rd attempt he uses the same combinations as he’s 2’nd. I saw somewhere that Kratos is testing Hiemdall with the three attacks before you are able to damage him, and you can see it. The first involves slow and wide attacks to gauge his foresight. The second uses quick precise strikes to see how fast Kratos needs to be to hit him (this is the first time he makes contact). The final attack is to see if Hiemdall has any true combat experience outside of his foresight (Kratos is able to land a textbook counter attack on Hiemdall; an attack any true fighter would have been prepared for).
Sounds like rubbish to me. The first two attacks are near the same. It also doesn’t make sense that Heimdall would be able to fight you at all or that he would have a second phase with cinematics of him beating you up, or dialogue about his sword I don’t think you have to make up vague reasons as to why Kratos is actually better than everyone he fights and just doesn’t try. Sounds like it makes the story worse imo. Also a vague source like "read somewhere" shows why this theory lacks reason
@@jessepinkman5702 Eh, I 100% think Kratos was sizing him up. The three attacks are different enough and Kratos gradually adjusts his strikes each time until he can land one. There are so many details in these games, there's a good chance this was intentional
@@jessepinkman5702nobody's calling Heimdall weak. His foresight is incredibly powerful and he uses it very well. However as Freyr's VA once said on a different show, having superpowers is cheating. Cheating can only get you so far. Heimdall's powers are a crutch. Thousands of years of relying on his foresight has made a poor combatant when his one advantage is nullified. He even says that he's not sure when the last time he used his sword was. He's very powerful and very strong. He is not however very skilled. And that's why he loses
*Damn* watching Kratos *strangle* Heimdall was truly terrifying Out of all the gods killed this felt the most real. No spectacle, just pinned him down and choked the life out of Heimdall. The other kills felt more action inspired, this felt like a horror movie. The music cutting out as Heimdalls eyes go dark.......it left me in shock. Same as Kratos reaction (Ediy: Someone pointed out that earlier in GoW ragnarok Heimdall looked into Thors eyes and said "you're a sick man". But when he looks into Kratos eyes all he says is "Monster" 😐)
Still a considerably more humane death than Kratos gave any other god. The old Kratos would have put a Draupnir Spear in Heimdall’s neck and then detonated it.
I like to think it was the very first time heimdall actually felt REAL pain, not just getting hit but this was a spear cutting through his arm. I think he was obviously very surprised to feel how it felt to actually be hurt like that. hence the sudden "OKAY, STOP, STOP!" lol.
Some people says ''why all of a sudden after the first strike Heimdall can be hit by normal attack after'' . Imagine you've been living literally thousands of years, been part of hundreds of fights, and never once you ever got hit by anything what so ever. You come into this fight with full confidence because you can't see how this would go any different than all of the previous, but then this time, for the first time, you get punched in the face 1 min into it, by no less than another god who killed a dozen of gods before you. Your confidence vanishes, confusion and fear starts to take the spot left by confidence. What you've been doing all your life will not work here, and you know it. The damage is done, the mind is shattered and overwhelmed with questions, stress and fear. Your senses are overwhelmed. A nice touch is that from this first strike on, you can use the axe and blade just fine for the rest of the fight. His mind has been taken out, the inevitable awaits.

This was one of the best fights I have ever played in both new GoW titles, Heimdall was easy to hate on because of his arrogance and sadism, but damn seeing Kratos go back to his old way brought back memories to me of playing the original games, how young and angry he was at everything and everyone. Mimir's reaction was completely realistic, like damn WTF Kratos?! Then again, Heimdall's pride was his own downfall, he went too far
That said, Mimir doesn't really hold it against you afterwards - likely as he was also there to hear Heimdall basically say "For offering me mercy and hurting my pride, I will not agree to take the L and go home, but instead promise to gut [his literal word choice] your child." For all intents and purposes, Heimdall had it coming, still doesn’t make Kratos reverting back to the person he swore he would never be again a good thing.
Its a moment with Mimir as well. He's heard of the Ghost of Sparta, the Bane of Olympus, but we literally hear him say that he thinks those stories were exaggerated. This is the first time even Mimir really fully understood what Kratos is capable of
Right? It's almost like Mimir was SAD finding out the stories weren't exaggerated. Like when he was telling Kratos that he didn't have to kill Heimdall, it was like he just didn't want to see Kratos do it, rather than because they needed to prevent Ragnarok.
With Baldur, Mimir could understand why Kratos killed him. Baldur wouldn't have stopped until he'd killed Freya, making his death almost necessary. That's how Kratos was able to land a punch on him making Heimdall for the first time have doubts and focus on his own thoughts while not focusing in Kratos mind.
Kratos became a monster because of Ares; he's responsible. On the final day of Ares's life, they fought, and Kratos spoke to him, saying, "I am not the same man you found that day because the monster you've created has returned to kill you." I strongly believe that Kratos is still a good man and has a heart.
I agree, but Kratos has ALWAYS been a good guy. People may call him a monster for doing such outrageous things, but the Gods did worse things than he did.
@@christophergepullano9029 indeed brotha. Kratos is just a leader who wants to protect the Spartan pple and his family; the Greek deities are the real monsters. They threaten to kill him, and that includes his family. And when he fought against the Greek deities and when they died, then they blamed him and called him a monster. It's like a family of a deceased killer blaming you and called u a monster coz u killed their child for a self defense.
Idk if it was mentioned, but when Kratos tells Heimdal that it was his last chance to surrender, you hear his voice crack. The nigh impenetrable facade Kratos had put up, the image that even Kratos himself had been accepting as what he was now, finally broke. Earlier on, he kept the Ghost in check, but by that point, Heimdal's arm blown off and threats on Atraeus's life, the Ghost of Sparta appeared and said "let me show why this man left his home, the reason why he hides"
Someone pointed this out to me, and I'm just watching this back and realizing he is right. At 3:03 Kratos gages him to see what his foresight is capable of close range. He uses slow and powerful blows, and heimdall dodges with ease. At 3:20 Kratos strikes much faster, and realized that Heimdall's combat experience is limited. Kratos learns he can indeed make contact, leaving Heimdall somewhat open and showing that his foresight doesn't make him untouchable. At 4:07 Kratos strikes with speed alone, and very up close. He swings faster than Heimdall can foresee until he forces Heimdall to block, where he counters and actually hits him. Kratos won the fight right there, as Heimdall started to question himself, and he slipped up more and more as the fight went on.
I like the last two are similar haymakers but the second one had a twist because he knows he can hit his arm but turns it into a grab instead so he can secure a punch. That is some serious battle iq, expect no less from a god of war.
Yes because the stuns from the spear kept over populating his senses. The whole point of the fight. Once he lost focus it was easy work for Kratos lol.
Step 1: Yes, Heimdall grabbed the spear, use the moment to stun him. Afterwards, see what works and test him with slow yet powerful punches. Step 2: use the spears Heimdall deflected to stun him since he is still focused on you. Afterwards, use more speed and less power in your punches. You almost land a hit, but he had to block it with his bracers, so speed is working. Step 3: He is more aware of the spears, use the area to set up a trap for Heimdall, let him walk into the spears. Afterwards, speed is key, use a flurry of fast yet ferocious punches. Step 4: Heimdall is completely stunned, shocked, and therefore, sloppy. Now time your attacks after you dodge or parry, but still be patient. Step 5: He is now like any other boss fight, nonstop offense with little defense. Do what you do best. Step 6: This dude starts threatening Atreus and threw some dirt in you eyes. Enough is enough. Pound him down into the ground in seconds. SEE THE F-ING GOD OF WAR! Bonus tip: if you can, go full ape mode on him with your anger issues.
I also waited for him to make the first move before actually fighting him. I also used bare handed attacks for the remainder of the fight when heimdall ate the first punch, just to rub salt on his wounds.
Mimir needs to realize that Heimdall wasn’t one to leave alive. If Kratos spares someone and they still threaten to gut his son, any father would’ve put him down for good. Also 9:33 is a great example of how much of Kratos’ rage is restrained. He went from parring him to utterly kicking the shot out of him in a split second.
I figured killing him was the same as killing Baldur, not really a want. But they’re too dangerous to just keep alive But he also snapped. So that helps
People keep saying Heimdall is fast but I don’t think most people realize that his power is foresight, he can see attacks before they come. I wouldn’t say he’s faster than any of the other gods. He just predicts his opponent’s movements so he can avoid them with ease
Both are very fast, he literally stops time and both can still move in there, in contrast when you stop time against any other boss or regular mobs, they are entirely frozen. xD
@@jerryrenteria5052 They don’t stop time only slow it down a lot. Once you defeat him and collect his amulet it states that time “slows down” it doesn’t stop
@Deep Inside well the Draupnir Spear provided an advantage in terms of using weaponry yes, but Kratos victory mostly benefited him because he was fighting without thinking.
The Ghost of Sparta coming out at 9:35 with the double-handed overhead hammer swing to plant Heimdall's head into the dirt at mach 4 speeds is orgasmic to put it nicely 😂. Sometimes a lion has to roar to remind the rest of the animals what he is.
@@Sleepyvoidboi2111 He didn't stop dodging completely as in some gameplays on youtube, you can clearly see him dodge. Also of course he disoriented as the spear was literally meant to do exactly that. "Overload his senses". Heimdall also says "I don't know whether to be more surprised or pissed off." Heimdall never lost hit cool until he was literally impaled. Not using your main ability after it being rendered nearly useless isn't losing your cool.
Nah, I think the effect would've been different if Heimdall had the Sharingan. Sharingan reads the target's body, while Heimdall's foresight reads his targets person's mind. If he had the Sharingan, he'd probably have been able to read Kratos's hand going for the grab on that block, or at least the subsequent punch. Even if he still couldn't avoid it, he would've actually seen it coming instead of being so surprised. Same exact thing happened to Sasuke vs. Rock Lee during that unofficial challenge before the Chunin Exam. Rock Lee was faster, so Sasuke couldn't keep up, but his eyes could still see the movements, then again when he developed his 3rd tomoe vs. Naruto, his sight improved and he could see the body's potential future movements, which are limited by muscle force load, vs. Heimdall who can only see a person's planned movements. To give a concrete example, under equal footing, Heimdall could beat Vegeta, but not Goku, because Vegeta is a focused fighter while Goku is an instinct fighter.
@@jeanduresau wait, that doesn't entirely make sense, because by the logic of the fight with Kratos, Heimdall's opponents have to be aware of the actions they're making in order for him to read them. That's why he didn't anticipate the grab that Kratos pulled him into, which led to the first hit, isn't it? I'm pretty sure that his officially recognized foresight ability is to read the opponent's intended movements by making eye contact, which is why movements of randomness or instinct can bypass his ability. And actually, I think that's why the mud from Atreus's arrow surprised him in that one scene where Thor steps in. I haven't played the game myself yet, so correct me if I'm wrong.
@@jabrark5828 You're definitely wrong, he just read people's actions and intentions, and no, he wasn't surprised at all by Atreus shooting an arrow to his back, the only reason of why Kratos was even able to hit him was the spear, that was designed to overwhelm Heimdall specifically.
This might be one of the least brutal kills Kratos has ever done, but it is definitely one of the most emotionally driven. The way Kratos grounds Heimdall with only two punches to the face and then clubs him again with both forearms and proceeds to bash his head against the ground and strangle him might be very tame compared to almost everything Kratos has done, but the way he *delivers* those hits is so visceral and you can tell it’s because of Heimdall’s consistent threatening of his son.
I don’t think enough credit is given to how Mimir is portrayed in this moment. He sounds so shocked and frightened at finally seeing the old nature of Kratos and also afraid of the consequences that will follow the death of Heimdall O.o
Very late response, but me personally, I think it's actually kinda brutal because of the fact he wanted to watch him die. Every other enemy, Kratos kills quickly and efficiently, but here? He wanted to watch Heimdall slowly die while looking him in the eye, not as bad as say him looking at poseidon in the eyes before gouging them out, but still. That and the fact that he just leaves his body there, which is a small, but good detail as most bosses disappear when killed, yet Heimdall's corpse doesn't and brings and eerie feeling, especially when Kratos just tosses it over like nothing. Such a threat turned into just another corpse, or maybe I'm geeking way too much😂
During this fight I thought Kratos was gonna put down Heimdall like he did Poseidon, so when Kratos began to beat his head in and then turn him around, I thought we were gonna get the “L3+R3” prompt
The fact that they placed Mimir's head just at the right spot so he could witness what the Ghost of Sparta is capable of gives us a true cinematographic experience... Even the music in the background turns somber as Mimir realizes the horror Kratos can do
For those doubting that Kratos was throwing punches to understand Heimdal's fighting skills look at 3:25 When he blocks the left punch,Kratos could easily throw a right hook in the face but he slowed down and punched low Then when he stuns him again he does the same sequence and this time landing that right hook
I mean knowing Kratos was raised as a Spartan, him analyzing and testing Heimdall makes complete sense. He was a Spartan general ffs, he had to study the enemy’s techniques before making any moves
So, is nobody going to talk about Kratos’ crazy huffing at 10:00? Even Chris Judge’s BREATHING has emotion. It seems like it’s just the adrenaline, but the voice cracking also shows just how terrified he actually is at what he’s done as it starts to slowly sink in. Not to mention the fact that he missed the horn. For someone whose actions are usually so full of purpose, this is the truest expression of horror. He KNOWS how badly he fucked up that he can only grunt at Mimir when he expresses his total disappointment. My god, the devs did incredibly with this scene.
@@bigpete7865 He was trying to prove the Norns wrong and prevent Ragnarok by trying to spare Heimdall. When he killed him, Kratos ended up proving them right, and if you didn't already know how the game would end at that point, you'd actually be scared for Kratos because the Norns said he would die as he keeps making the same, god-killing choices.
@@leolusanez5378 TBF, Heimdall brought this on himself. Proving whatever has nothing to do with when someone threatens your child to your face. When you know that person is sincere enough to carry out that threat, all bets are off.

Idk why but people are saying its an ok game But for me its actually an masterpiece . The character development, storyline, the quotes and the emotions I fell in love with the game and the stories about asgard and those gods and all that....mann thats awesome This is an unforgettable game and value for money ❤❤i love it❤
It's fine to think it's a masterpiece. I think the previous GoW was better personally. A lot of it has to do with how disappointing Odin was as a villain and how rushed the game felt in terms of pacing. GoW 4 spent a LOT of time talking up how scary and crazy Odin was and how he was watching everybody's every move and he had all these plans in store, and then we get to this game after expecting him to be this big foreboding badass, and he's mostly just an insane, frail old man (he literally looks like my grandfather walking out of a pub) who does a lot of scheming and undermining. We get a boss fight with him and idk, it felt reaaaaallly easy compared to everything else the game had to offer, and this is supposed to be the alleged HEAD of the norse pantheon. Feels like we needed a game in between 4 and Ragnarok to get time with Odin seeing him do all this crazy scary evil shit and PROVE that he's as intimidating as you made him sound in the previous game. The best part about the game is the character development of Kratos and how he develops BECAUSE of Atreus' influence on him as well and how he and Freya related to each other about their pasts. Everything else? Pretty meh imo.
I disagree. He was fine until he kicked sand in his face and woke up Greek Kratos. He fought Norse Kratos for like 8 minutes but Greek Kratos had him dead and gone in like thirty seconds.
This was a unique opponent that Kratos faced, the entire group had to go out of their way to help craft a weapon to just have a chance to touch Heimdall, everyone feared this man, it was a great bossfight and nice to see Kratos using his favourite weapon once again.
Mimir said the way to beat Heimdall is to overload his senses. The spear creates infinite copies which divides his focus and even has explosions that are too fast for him to react to. Once he got hit once everything slowly went downhill cuz his focus was broken.
He just being a kid get salty when being ass kick thats all, called himself a god when bullying a kid, but called people monster when getting owned lel
Yeah the double punch was brutal. Not the part where he slams Hiemdall’s head into the ground three times or the part where he is choking him out and Hiemdall tries to break out of it but realises it’s hopeless so he looks into Kratos’ eyes to see who he really is and saw (most likely) Kratos killing his family or Zeus or Poseidon, or Hermes leaving him with one last word “Monster”. No no the double punch.
@@kingdomofprussia9749 I mean, at that point you're not even killing a person. He's killed enough to be able to distinguish between killing family, killing a good person, killing a decent person, killing an evil person, and killing straight up garbage (like most gods he's killed by this point). He definitely knows he just rid the world of an unchangeable douchenozzle. lmao
I just love how Kratos can make the gods tremble in fear and confussion right before he kills them. Makes them feel that they are just mortal humans with powers and nothing special.
In Norse Mythology, the Aesir, Vanir, and other assorted beings are, indeed, mortal. They can die, and Odin literally states as much. "Dying is what we Aesir live for." But for the Greek Gods? He absolutely did equalize them, make them feel like mortals. Which is even more impressive than you think because, as the Greek Gods were, they were theoretically immortal. There was never supposed to be a cataclysm in Greece. There were no doomsday prophecies that'd destroy the Pantheon. Kratos defied that fate, defied the canon of the Greek mythos, and basically brought down the Untouchables.
I love how as soon as Kratos loses his cool, Heimdall is dead. It really illustrates how much Kratos is trying to hold back. His face at 9:43… that’s the face every god in Olympus saw before they died. This wasn’t the God of War killing Heimdall. It was the Ghost of Sparta.
I noticed that too. His face when they showed it here looked different than the whole game. And how he just snaps back out of it after. Man this game is gold
No. The ghost of sparta's least favorite way of killing something is by choking. just compare the death of zeus and poseidon with heimdall's death its like comparing lighters with volcano. This is of kratos doing
@@dylanmccabe6011 The snap back shook me. He looked so *old* . Stories of war vets 'snapping' and falling into the violent side of training under high stress are mostly false, but that...fuck, that is what it would look like.

@@ninjafrog6966 Indeed. Choking a man until he loses his breath, compared to being beaten to a pulp, neck snapped, soul taken by own weapon, stomach cut open by a divine sword and more. Totally tame.
Bruh Christopher Judge is amazing. So many subtle expressions of surprise, worry, and maybe even slight regret. Starting at 10:07 u just get the thought process of Kratos so well with no words. He goes from blind ghost of sparta righteous fury to shock at how quickly he slid back into the role even though its been centuries since Greece. 10:09 - 10:20 shows so much fear from such a strong character. Honestly I think Kratos is having a minor panic attack here. When he goes to get the horn his hand slips. Is it from the blood or is he still in slight shock from what he just did? You get all of this from Judge's acting. No dialogue. The man is a genius at his craft. Give a raise to whoever hired him.
Yeah when he missed Gajjlahorn the first time he actually didn’t mean to which is why he went back and snatched it harder so they kept it in on how that kill made him feel
If you really think about it (outside of game mechanics), initially Kratos needed an opening to land a hit on Heimdall. The Drapunir was able to grant him that, after which Heimdall's ego got bruised (as well as his face). Kratos is an experienced warrior, his body fights on instincts rather than well thought out attacks which is why subsequently Heimdall was not able to dodge his attacks with foresight because he could not see what Kratos was thinking about. "What's going on in that empty head of yours?", I am not sure if that is an insult or Heimdall literally couldn't see what was going inside Kratos' mind. Could be both. This combined with the fact that Heimdall cannot fight without his foresight won the fight for Kratos. If you look closely Heimdall mainly focused on Bifrost based magic attacks rather than using his sword to attack.
I feel like Heimdall could predict his movements, it was just that Kratos was too fast for him to react. Just cause he can see it coming doesn't mean his body is fast enough to evade.
After so many years of fighting I believe that Krato's fighting style is engrained into his muscle memory, meaning he isn't thinking where to hit, but just hit
Kratos’ thought process during the fight: 3:03 Kratos: alright, the spear works. Now, let’s see what this guy’s all about… 3:22 Kratos: I tested the waters, before, with those wide punches, but now let’s bump it up a notch to really test his speed. More quick and narrow punches. 3:26 Kratos: threw him a left hook, causing him to block with his arm…noted. 4:08 Kratos: alright, so we know what happened the last time. This time we bait him with the same pattern of punches, thus, making him do the same pattern of dodges, thus, making him anticipate the same left hook, thus…expecting that same arm block. 4:11 Kratos: we made contact.
One of my favorite fights in the game. Heimdall was such a fun and hateable villain brought to life by such an excellent performance. The fight was also mechanically creative. Figuring out I need to use the explosions the spear makes to stun Heimdall was a nice "ah-hah!" moment. He was also the toughest main story boss for me. It really felt like I was fighting the best the Aesir had to offer. I liked your gameplay, it made the fight seem more even. The music was also great. Especially in Phase 4 where it sounds so unhinged and desperate.
I also love how he changes each time we use the spear. The first time we use the spear he catches it and we detonate it.After that he parries it to the ground and when we explode it on the ground. And after that he moves out of the way everytime he parries it
I love the detail in this fight so much, the way Kratos throws his punches to see where Hiemdall falls short is perfect, first its wide and slow, then precise and fast and within that second time he hits Hiemdall's bracers, then on the 3rd and final combo he grabs the bracer and throws a solid, stunning punch
He makes a perfect read, and makes a perfect alteration. Its such a beautiful display of Fight IQ. Whomever choreographed this watches combat sports. (Probably MMA considering in the Baldur fight in the first game, Kratos does a PROPER RNC. He even gets the hooks in. You NEVER EVER see that in games and movies, unless the choreographer actually watches / trains MMA or Grappling)
I like that at the start of the fight, Kratos's punches are very slow. With Heimdall able to effortlessly dodging punches. Then as the fight goes on, Kratos gets faster and Heimdall's forced to block a punch. Finally Kratos's punches are too fast for him and lands a hit.
@@adrianshephardOP4 It really did, it broke Heimdall’s focus, his foresight ability is broken but because of that he’s over reliant on it and doesn’t think things through allowing Kratos to use the spears as mines splitting Heimdall’s focus between trying to read Krato’s movements and and trying not get blasted by the spears.
@@laimai6103 baldur is only better then Greek gods due to being invincible without that’s he’s not even on par. And you saw how easy Kratos got through heimdalls foresight I could easily see Hermes, Zeus, Poseidon, and hades all washing him
Mimir has the right to be afraid right there.. 10:10 Because what he saw was NOT Kratos, Father of Areaus. Husband to Faye but the literal Ghost of Sparta and Greek very own God of War.
He damn sure did! He said "this is not who you want to be!!" Alot of people don't know but when Thor "killed" him Kratos would've just came back. An old lady in Sparta put a curse on him to never die so he's basically immortal..
Heimdall's biggest mistake was tapping into Kratos's inner God of War and threatening him to kill Atreus. you could literally feel a glimpse of his past self while he was tossing Heimdall around and the part where he was choking him to death. Kratos was never this angry after Zeus and Heimdall underestimated him alot which caused his downfall
10:00 Heimdall's face when he dies is just *haunting* . A bloody filth-spattered head with pits of darkness where his nose, eyes and mouth are. Here there is no Heimdall. This could be the face of any of Kratos' uncountable victims. Whether guilty or innocent, they all blur together into inhuman carnage.

All the other gods have merely heard stories of the Ghost of Sparta or just have an idea of what he is capable of. one thing i noticed, At 4:09 When Kratos finally lands the hit on Heimdall he grabbed his arm instead of trying to hit him. He anticipated he would try to block his haymaker and grabbed his arm throwing him off balance. Because he blocked in the series of blows before that one. That really shows how much of a tactical genius Kratos is.
Tho he came up with it most likely on the fly because otherwise Heimdall could have easily predicted such a move
Or ya know, Kratos is a skilled combatant

"Monster" also is a very specific choice of words. It's what Athena called him. He knew that word would hurt Kratos.

I like how Heimdall gloats about feeling Kratos' frustration, withour realizing its actually bubbling up into anger. And an angry Kratos is a very, very dangerous Kratos
And a horny Kratos is a very ⭕️ button prompt Kratos.
Dude was charging Kratos L3 + R3 meter and didn’t even realize.
Cuz the people who made the game made him do that lol wym?!!
Ironically, it was Heimdall’s own frustration that dulled his combat intuition
Ohhh
@@cookiebombcasualemail5284 also the little pos was talking sht about torturing his son to death so...

Shame the Norse pantheon is so damn weak it didn't even get Kratos to go seriously. Held back the entire two games lol
@@NinjapowerMS weak? Odin and Thor are easily on Kratos’s level. Thor was holding back in their first fight and still stopped Kratos’s heart lol.

They're bums. Zeus actually killed Kratos and there's no fight in this game that got anywhere near close to the fight Kratos had with Zeus at the end of 3
Heimdall called Kratos a monster because when he looked into Krato’s eyes before dying (how he reads minds,) he saw Kratos’ old memories of killing the greek gods and what he did to Olympus. You can tell Kratos was thinking about these memories while choking Heimdall due to his face. Heimdall just so happened to witness all of it before he died, thus why he called him a monster.
Know right saw fear actual fear
@Tyler James Yes he can
@Tyler James Odin said “he reads minds for me,” not “Intentions.” He’s clever enough to know not to mix either of them up
@Tyler James fair enough
From what little I've seen of Kratos' "Ghost of Sparta" god kills, Heimdall got the tamest death he could from Kratos.
That’s the difference between a strong fighter and an experienced fighter. Unfortunately for Heimdall, Kratos is both…
It's not that the 3rd round of fists was just faster, it learned off the 2nd by replicating it but altering the end where as opposed to the last punch being simply thrown he turned it into a grab to disarm his block and guaranteeing that last hit that did connect
@@JamesSavignac good read I didn’t even notice that. This is the best fight in the game in my opinion, the attention to detail here is astounding. Every god in the previous games said the same exact shit to Kratos. Their arrogance is beyond understanding.
And IF there is some problem you just go and beat it in 5 seconds without any need to really hit hard.
from odins own mouth: heimdall is very perceptive but sometimes forgets to think.
It's cuz they're so used to beating up mortals and weaker creatures and threatening their lives and families, and there's nothing they can do so they beg. They neglected the fact that Kratos too is a God, and one that does NOT beg.
@@wusscakeThey're gods. Arrogance goes with the territory. Heck, the only reason it isn't completely justified is cause Kratos is the protagonist.

@@TheGamerClown also because Heimdall was a huge asshole the entire game

Beautifully said, and a lesson we should all take to heart.
Prophecies are mean to happen not matter what, not in the same way as is written but it will happen anyway.

It also doesn’t make sense that Heimdall would be able to fight you at all or that he would have a second phase with cinematics of him beating you up, or dialogue about his sword
I don’t think you have to make up vague reasons as to why Kratos is actually better than everyone he fights and just doesn’t try.

But with Heimdall, Kratos just kills him because he was too proud to give up. It wasn't necessary for Heimdall to die, and I think that's why Mimir was so desperate to try and talk Kratos down

I just looked back and noticed it! Good job 👏
Now that's poetic
Yup. Fear killed his mind and then his body once Kratos sussed him out.
Once he lost focus it was easy work for Kratos lol.
that guy is an absolute legend, so are the game devs
What can you expect from a former Spartan General who served under King Leonidas.
Jacksepticeye approves these instructions.

Heimdall never lost hit cool until he was literally impaled. Not using your main ability after it being rendered nearly useless isn't losing your cool.
Kratos is one of the few people in history to have defeated a Sharingan user in one-on-one combat

@@jabrark5828 Heimdall apparently doesn't read minds, he reads the actions of the opponent.

It's fine to think it's a masterpiece. I think the previous GoW was better personally. When a god fight against another god they are basically the same as human vs human
I mean that is how the Norse gods are often depicted, just humans with superpowers
I guess you could say kratos is the equalizer of gods now😅
In Norse Mythology, the Aesir, Vanir, and other assorted beings are, indeed, mortal.
That's the Norse mythology. They are all mortals with powers. Not immortals like the Greeks, Egyptians, and Japanese.

@@nextgen5619 I didn't think he missed it. He went for the loop that was holding the horn to Heimdall's waist.

And after that he moves out of the way everytime he parries it
4:08 i loved this part
barrage moment 🗿
“Everyone loved that.”
"You actually hit me !"
Kratos always keeps adapting to his opponents, it's obvious. Don't think for a sec that the spear helped him to beat Heimdall
@@crownedoasis2923 It helped but Kratos has taken on beings FAR above Heimdall. Yes. Kratos would adapt.
@@davidortiz3094 Heimdall > Baldur > Greek Pantheon.
@@laimai6103 baldur is only better then Greek gods due to being invincible without that’s he’s not even on par. And you saw how easy Kratos got through heimdalls foresight I could easily see Hermes, Zeus, Poseidon, and hades all washing him
The rare moment where Kratos shows mercy to a defeated foe... and the idiot squanders it.
And the funny is that Mimir was not afraid for his life, because he knew Kratos wouldn't do anything to him. He was afraid FOR Kratos
Kratos didn't want to kill Heimdall but the moment he threatened Atreus..... well this is what happens.
Yeah, Heimdall pushed Kratos button.
@@johnsantos507 He shouldn’t have done that
@@phantomakuma1384 Hey, Heimdall chose death.
If heimdal must die in order for Atreus to live, then heimdall.must.die.
-Kratos
10:00 Heimdall's face when he dies is just *haunting* . A bloody filth-spattered head with pits of darkness where his nose, eyes and mouth are. Here there is no Heimdall. This could be the face of any of Kratos' uncountable victims. Whether guilty or innocent, they all blur together into inhuman carnage.
Everything is still there, just the light faded away
well it IS inhuman carnage. It's DIVINE carnage. *badumts*
He looks like homelander in that shot
