It's sooooo good at crazy and intense metallic type sounds, and surprisingly nice for stuff like this. It's my first semi-modular piece of gear (unless you count the Volca FM and its algorithms), and I love it.
@@stochasticstep great sound your getting out of this unit! Would you say it is good for these sounds as people mostly make harsh aggressive sounds out of it? And if so, what do the patches look like for something more ambient? Great stuff!
Hi. Thanks. I will say that the "natural sound" from the vm is kind of harsh. It's a great ambient machine. Lots of modulation possibilities. I like to pair it up with some external effects to shape the sound into more soft terrain.
Awesome gona buy one soon as fantastic vid like avin a 20 grand buchla synth but for under 200 and sounds real deal put it through delays warm reverbs it sound crazy
To be honest some modular setups sound like bleeps and bloops and they go on and on about how powerful it is, call it experimental or what ever but i think its listenable. Nice Video and good music
I bought one recently and it's a nice instrument, i'm doing very well at making drone/harsh noise and kinda saxophone/clarinet-like jazz sounds and 70s sci-fi noises which is cool, i'm in an experimental band and that suits our music, but I'm looking into how to make ambient soundscapes like this. It's my first modular/analog synth, i bought it because of videos like yours and Ann Annie.
Hi! I agree it's a great machine for sci-fi noise and experimental stuff. For ambient I recommend that you pair it with external effects. Delay and a lot of reverb helps with the sound-shaping. Also thank you for the kind words :)
If you had, like, too much time on your hands, you could do a "making of" video, explaining the steps taken to achieve these effects and your reasoning behind it ;). Yes I've read your other comments here, but I think me, and a lot of other people are still having hard time wrapping their heads around volca modular :P. Such tutorial vid would be greatly appreciated!
@@stochasticstep we would really appreciate it! What can we do to help you make such a tutorial? Or maybe we should just be inspired and find our own way. After all that's what you did, right?
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Chained a lot of patterns to make the composition. The modular is going through a zoom ms70cdr pedal. First a stereo delay and then some heavy reverb. :)
Hi! I'm glad you like it. In this piece I chained a lot of patterns. The patterns are treated with different modes on the sequencer to create some interesting melodies and randomness. I use function two as a lfo and together with woggle it modulates the tempo as well as attac/release. The effects (reverb and stereo delay) is really doing a lot to shape the sound. Looking back I should have used an eq on the reverb to filter out the muddyness in the low end, but it is what it is. :)

Honestly. Wow. I have a rough time making the Modular sound delightful. It's not easy. Props to you. This is my attempt this week : ua-cam.com/video/ghcwRowA73I/v-deo.html
Not an easy synth to make sound so good. Excellent work
Very nice, would love to see a patch sheet on this.
one of the few people that make this unit sound good/different
well done
Thank you.
I swear I see this comment on every single volca modular video.

Didn't realize until you mentioned it :o
Absolutely beautiful! 🙂🙌 I friggin love this synth. Beautiful sounds to aggressive sounds and everything in between. Good stuff. Keep em coming. 👍

i would say that what making a job here is a good external reverb
That is very true.
Lovely ~ so nice to hear this played musically ~ thank you
Love the clean look of these videos!
Beautiful! The stereo delay really brings this little machine to life!
Thanks. Yes, delay and a healthy dose of reverb really brings it to life.
Nice job. I have two of these machines and I think they are awesome. I love all the random features. Can take the performance to other realms 😀
Love it u do synthesis with plants. I'm waiting for my volca modular. Sweet sounds u make. Greeting s a.
That's a lovely sound. Kudos.
Thank you :)
This one is beautiful, I wish it lasted way longer.
Reminds me of the beginning of Touch by Daft Punk, great use of the modular, really nice
That's because of such as "Stochastic Step" I bought it recently. Absolute evil, absolute beauty!
Just lovely.
Great little noise maker
I found a new one for $200, so I bought it after watching this. Nice work
Nice! Enjoy the exploring. Send it through external reverb, that's when it really shine.

This is so magical sounding !
Sounds nice . Im not sure about it then i hear something like this and think it is a beautiful instrument.

I really wanna see this patch sheet! I’ve got sounds pretty close to this but can’t figure out where to woggle at. This is beauty
I think tempo. If I remember correctly. Long time ago.
Hope I can get my Volca Mod sounding this cool. Great video.

@@stochasticstep would make a tutorial video of how to do something like this? Its a beauty

I am fascinated by the back and forth sequencer. I also loves control's patch cables! But it's a bit hard and I'm bothered by the folds : )
I must learn how that sequencer works...
nice sounds!

Just curious, does all the sound come from this device, or is the reverb/delay added elsewhere?
Hey. Delay and reverb is from a guitar pedal off screen. Zoom ms70cdr.
Ah ok I get it now. Thanks bro, sound great.

@@stochasticstep Do you use the internal spacial effect ?
@@olivierrenoir9282 hello! No, I don't use it here. I don't really like it. It's very metallic.
I'm very probably going to buy this Volca and am a Boards of Canada fan. Is it easy to get sounds like these from this device?
Hey. You need external effects, delay and reverb to achieve this sound. The modular sounds kind of metallic if it's not processed by external effects.
@@stochasticstep Ah okay, I'll probably run it through an effects chain in Ableton. Maybe no as good, but I'd love to get this vibe going
A vegetable suggestion ;)

Do you have this patch written out? I have been trying to figure it out but I can’t.
Hi! Unfortunately I don't have it written out. I can try to recreate it myself and come back to you with a description. :)

Sounds good! The sound is only for Volca Modular? Thanks!
Thanks! The modular is the only sound-source, but it is sent through a pedal for delay and reverb. The pedal is a zoom ms70cdr.
@@stochasticstep Awesome! Zoom ms70cdr to my wishlist..
Is that stereo panning produced by the synth or is that something you had to work on in a DAW?
It's a stereo-delay effect from a pedal :) zoom ms70cdr.

Thank you, and yes. 🙏

@@truedanbo they are mainly preprogrammed. Some random generated note here and there.
Hi. Beautiful sounds. Could I please ask what setting you used on the Zoom pedal? Thanks if you can.
Thank you. Of course you can ask :) It's three effects. Tape echo-stereo delay-cave reverb. Long decay on the reverb.

Agree with meneerjansen00 sounding really good. Are all the sounds coming from the Volca? Very impressive ambient soundscape.
All the sounds are coming from the volca, running through a pedal with delay and reverb.
Evident as to a toy or enjoyable.
Are you modulating the clock for this example? Sounds great.
