BEST COMMENT
At this point, I'll believe anything lol.
Exactly 😂😂
valid title if you're a content creator filming multiple takes and multiple angles
Jeff’s advice has been very successful to fix my 6 years old shoulder injury ! So, don’t care much about fake weights , the advice from him is real.
@Grip Mania India Jeff is a professional 🤦
@Grip Mania India Also by your logic, advice given by professionals could be placebo effect as well. Literally, by your logic, unless we do a randomized control study of Jeff's technique, it could all be do to placebo. I am willing to bet that Jeff's technique isn't just placebo because he explained the anatomy of the body and why it works. If you can provide a mechanism on why certain exercise work, then I am willing to bet that it isn't just placebo. So you want to continue hating on Jeff, you need to figure out a way to prove that his anatomical lecture is inaccurate.
@Grip Mania India 1. I don't do squats. 2. I don't think you understand how natural selection works. 3. I'm not even a Jeff fan. I guess your feelings just got hurt because I pointed out your comment is stupid.
@Grip Mania India The irony is, this is exactly how Athlean X is handling this drama. You are just a walking contradiction I see.
@@purefatdude2 1. I don't do squats xD then gtfo

Lifting real weights is killing your gains!
WTF......LMFAO. Gee im gonna laugh into tears......

🤣
Poor Jeff, sure, they're FAKE weights.. but, we gotta be fair. Did anyone ever consider, the fake 45 pound plates might actually be 90 pound plates, and that he's deadlifting 3000 kg? C'mon, be fair people..
Ya know, that’s a good point😂
What's fair is that the peds he takes are what allow him to lift less than the weight we see on screen, and it's not his IQ or methods that are doing it. He has effective stuff but for the most part alot of it is still weight resistance based which is something he hasn't made it far in since he used fake weights
Does fake weights take anything from Jeff's content? Nope, his content is still valid. Best vid on the subject.
exactly, when ur filming u want things to look good if they're fake or not that doesn't take away from his content plus hes a professional probably more professional and qualified than a lot of those you tube fitness people.
T Vang The cover-up is worse than the crime.
Well yes it does. Because makes you less credible. And if it doesn’t matter, why do it
yes it does. If you claim 495x3 on the video
Makes you wonder what else is he being deceitful about.
Never actually paid attention to what weight was on the bar in his videos.
Which is the whole reason this video is ridiculous
Xanivert no the video isn’t ridiculous . Jeff said he was deadlifting 495 and was lying . That’s deceiving his audience which is a bunch of beginners .
@@mattc4266 yes I agree. Im in the field, have trained people for 7 yrs. There is no way Jeff was doing 500 lbs in that video.
jrg305 he also tells people to breathe out before squatting , to quarter squat , to do half rep bench presses , to do 10x10 squats with 80% of your 1rm and can’t overhead press correctly .
@@mattc4266 haven't seen the breathing recs for him. But that's also controversial depending on if the client has high blood pressure or if working with a lower risk power lifter. Can't just say there is one way on that.

Came to the comments immediately after hearing that one, definitely didn't let me down.
@archie baldwin no, not all of it
Jeff is and still the best trainer on youtube ...... and when he tells you an exercise is bad he explains why in details and knowledge of a Physiotherapist ... i don't care if he uses Fake weight... he is still the best
NPC69 Well this might be true .... but sometimes when he tells you something like this the better exercise might be for people who are more advanced
Jeff is not the best trainer lol 😐
@@christianfritz3373 who is the best in your opinion ?
Then what are your thoughts of Jeff's 10x10 with a 1 minute rest at 70%-80% of 1RM for compound moves or Jeff telling us to exhale before a heavy squat? Are those "bad" exercise ideas?
He’s a cutting edge physiologist that trains world-class athletes. Sometimes science finds shit we didn’t know before.
ScottHerman needs to start doing fake weights, then he will have the same body as Athlean-X.
LMAO
😂😂😂
Different ody types and steroid use
those weights might be fake but the burn will hurt for real
Or he could just blast gear. Jeff is certified on TRT.
I don’t think Jeff has ever advertised himself as a powerlifter or some type of strongman. People listen to him because he’s a great resource as a physical therapist and brings a science based approach to exercises and athleticism. I’ve greatly benefitted from his content in the past and whether he can deadlift 135 or 495 wouldn’t change that.
He has good videos on injury rehab, which I myself have benefited from. We can all acknowledge that. But just because of that, it doesn't mean we should give him a free reign over other domains. Him using fake weights and giving downright dangerous advice (breathe out before squat descent) in a few videos should be reason enough for him to be called out.
he lied, simplez
I just can’t stand behind him anymore he lied.

Honestly dnt care how much weight he using, I'll use his technique, his body speaks results
Ok then why doesn't he just use 10lb bumper plates like Scott here instead of plates that actually say 45 and actually CLAIMING he lifts all this crazy weight when it's actually fake. You guys are so deluded here into trying to justify what he's doing its hilarious.

He can't lift much because his form and technique are bad. So listening to him will not get you far
His deadlifting form sucks (even with fake weights), his "breathe out before you squat" tip can literally get you injured, and most of his other information is absolutely useless. Only newbies who don't know any better think his content is helpful.
ua-cam.com/channels/87I9oEAjmDQujnDtyjUX2Q.html
People actually paid attention to how much Jeff was lifting while he taught?
Fuck no, Scott is jealous.
@@petercrenfield I suggest possibly using that other half, and someday arriving at the obvious conclusion that the weight being lifted is meaningless. A doctor needs a very specific set of tools to perform a very specific task- by your logic, the only way to deadlift is to load 5 plates on the bar first because that's what Jeff lifted.
@@petercrenfield I got ya. I check out the plates too, but I've never placed any importance on them while he demonstrated proper form. For videos on how to move more weight, he had guys who move lots of weight come in and give tips.
Guys (and girls) lifting big is something I find impressive, but I go to strength channels for tha stuff- powerlifting, strongman, etc. Jeff's strength has never wowed me, it was his knowledge and ability to teach.
Yes, many notice. Read the comments under Jeff's videos. There is always one marveling that "Jeff said go light for this one and then picked up two 45 lb dumbbells". On the the deadlift video in question, there are comments showing awe and admiration for him lifting 500 lbs at his weight.
That’s what I’m confused about too. The videos aren’t his own personal workout regime. It seems more like they’re there to show the exercises. Maybe he had to do a lot of takes and repeat the exercises a shit ton of times.
Does Athlean-X use fake weights?
Yeah probably
Is it the end of the world?
No, not at all
Does it make Jeff weak or any less knowledgeable?
Hell no
Am I still going to watch his and scott's videos to learn various exercises and forms?

Respectful analysis. At the end of the day, nobody watching his videos cares how much he lifts. Obviously, he’s a fitness freak and knows what he’s talking about. And he’s never once come off as an ego lifter regarding weight. As you said, long shoots may necessitate some movie magic. Total non issue.
It’s kindddd of weird that he talk IN THIS VIDEO about needing to use lighter weights for shooting but when Jeff does it is some kind of conspiracy.
@@cocktailonion696 Light weight not fake weights. Only people with inflated egos use fake weights
Yea they don't care about how much he lifts but the fact that he led people to believe his training got him there, only to find out he's on peds lifting fake weights and only lifting what he does due to peds
Well, unlike some other UA-camrs, he doesn't claim how much weight he is lifting, so I wouldn't say he is lying.
If you watch the critic videos he actually does claim to lift the weight with the fake plates
@Arunmozhi Sekar I would say the evidence is pretty strong
@@RicardoSilva-hk2er it's not only strong, it's proven. People just want to believe Jeff is without fault.

Regardless of the weights Jeff can or can't lift - his advice on training and nutrition is still some of the best out there compared to a lot of the bro-science and bullshit that comes out of the fitness community. Personally don't care.
@benadryl cabbagepatch What part about telling people you can't bullshit your way to a good physique is shite? He emphasizes proper form, intensity, consistency, and lifestyle change above broscience, fad diets, and bullshit supplements we all know don't do anything for you like BCAAs. Do you have to agree with every single thing he says? Of course not. But he's undoubtedly a positive influence in the fitness community.
benadryl cabbagepatch - nope. I went from fat and ordinary, to pretty damned fit using Jeff’s programs. I’m 50 and last spring break, college kids were bugging me about my physique the whole time. It was a nice ego boost, but I was really hoping to talk to women instead. 😆

Im trying to figure out how the revelation of fake weights actually affects the content
@I'm Not Suhas how?
@I'm Not Suhas how is he manipulating his viewers?
if anyone bothered to actually watch the "evidence" video, there he was showing how not to lift too heavy on deadlift, he indirectly said that he can't lift that much, so it makes sense that he would want to use fake weights for a lift that can potentially injure his old bones (he is in mid forties). mind you, I still think his "squat breathing technique" is ridiculous, but people are trashing him for this issue without knowing the real context.
As a 52 year old lifter and follower of Athlean X, I can say I've gotten my best gains taking Jeff's advice. That said, it does sadden me that I believe it is correct that they are fake weights. Especially because with Jeff's physique, he didn't need to go that route. And remember, he has never claimed to be a bodybuilder, just a lifter helping other lift and look good. I will still watch his videos because I know there's plenty of golden nuggets to grab from them but I'll be watching with a different eye and mindset.
The two veins on Scott’s neck are extremely distracting not gonna lie

Reading the comments in this thread a year later made me realize one thing. It's quite sad that people are making excuses to cover up one's fault. People tend to align themselves to what they believe in without question but fail to owe up to the mistakes of off those they look up to. They are rather uncomfortable hearing the truth or conflicting opinion that does not adhere to theirs. They tend to fabricate deflective arguments that in way make those at fault free of sin. This encourages a decrepit of morals and ethic that perpetuate the cycle of how people's gullibility are exploited for whatever purpose it may serve them.

Every time I get an injury or I want to avoid one, I see Jeff's videos. His knowledge of anatomy is immense! I never cared how much he lifts. He looks shredded all the year round!
But I love Scott's modesty and the way he explains forms and everything is so natural. It clearly shows that he speaks from his own experience.
Kudos to Scott for handling this topic with elegance. Canadians man! Lovely people!
Jeff's knowledge of young male anatomy is second to none!!
@@T..C..M ooh. Sarcasm.
I used alot of athlean-x to start my journey of being fat and weak to being stronger and leaned out. All of his free weight advice helped me and his constant feedback on form>weight helped me not develop an ego and to actually just go in with a clean head and work on my foundation. If u want to go get nasty strong u learn the basics, then branch out to some powerlifters. I never once thought “o jeff is doing x weight i guess this is the only way”. Learn form then watch multiple peoples vids and compare pros/cons and figure out what works for u
I would have to respect you about the content creator point of view. I can tell everyone that if you try and lift heavy but at the same time be able to do several sets of that same rep it will get exhausting really fast. I also like the point that you have put different points of views it really does help. Amazing Video by the way!
I watched many Jeff's videos and never paid attention to weights he lifts, the same with Scott. Technique and quality of the content they provide matters.
How can you take advice from someone who can't actually lift the weights they show you? As the other poster said, his form is terrible. If you want to get strong and big (the two are correlated if you're natural), then why would you follow his advise on anything?
best comment. i never see how much he's lifting. his videos and advices are around the best on YT. don't like? don't watch.
His weight lifting capability never once crossed my mind. Not even once.
if i can look like jeff using "fake weights"- gimme those!
So far his advice has helped aleviate my shoulder pain and allowed me to continue my training. If you can point me in the direction of where I can purchase his "fake weights" I will gladly purchase a set for myself.
Thank you for another awesome vid Scott, always enlightening to hear your perspective on these important subjects. Looking in fantastic shape man keep up the great work! Thanks bud.
It's logical to use fake weights because there are several takes while recording.🤷
Exactly but apparently that makes him dishonest
@@bluehornet197 his channel is about technique and not how much you lift in video. In case if he was setting a record and he used fake weights then that would be unfair and dishonest
@@nitesharu1269 don't worry I'm aware mate I am on Jeffs side I also gave your comment its first like cause I agree with you
Then just use lighter weights?
@@wulfstein1 then you won't watch his videos
Next video from Jeff:
Real weights are killing your gains
Jeff's videos are never for body builders who want to be a beast! He's videos are for normal people who want to get better and look good! That's why he recommends safer approaches and those where injury risks are less because our goal is not to lift heavy and be that strong! Those who watch him do not watch him because he is the strongest out there. they watch him because he has experience, degrees and results behind him, and also because he comes up with variety, science based information and injury free tips! he gives us the workouts that give the best results in least harm possible and even tries to address as many things as he can! Yes I believe he must come out and address the thing but that doesn't raise a qs about whether his videos are helpful or not.
I've watched Geoff for years, I've honestly never paid attention to the weight he's using lol
I had never noticed these fake weights, but it's obvious now. I'll still watch his channel, doesn't effect anything for me.
I'll still watch him too, but it's messing with my head. Seems like it would be better to go lighter than use a fake weight. I would know that it's just for demo purposes and not necessarily his normal workout weight.
@@AarkeinDevaed1540 I agree w you completely. It's wrong. What I'm trying to say is that if he used a lighter weight I know its just a demo and not all he's really able to do. I think everything else I said was pretty clear but I'll reword that part. Thanks
@@AarkeinDevaed1540 It was a let down. I've learned a lot from Jeff. I remember him doing that deadlift video. Never even dreamed he'd cheat. Looking at it now, there's not even any bar bend at all. Take care Matthew.
the fitness “industry” is exactly that, an industry. there is a lot of deceit, just like any other business. don’t trust anyone else. trust your own muscles, they’ll never lie to you
That's Limitlessly Strong. I will keep what you shared.
exactly, just eat the right amount of food and exercise, people don't need to do all the extra stuff!
I work out with trainers and bodybuilders and have done so for over 15 years. And they taught me so much, about eating and training and rest. And what i learned from them, is that it's all very simple actually. One of the bodybuilders i train with is HUGE. And he spends almost all his time in apparatuses, because then he can constantly push as much as hes capable of. Anyways, long story short, these guys do not wake up every morning to do certain exercises because it has to be done or whatever, however, they do take what they eat very very seriously. But when it comes to working out, heck, some of these guys only do like 7-8 exercises and throw in another 6-8 just for variety. You can actually train your entire body by only doing deadlifts, squats, chin ups, cable rows, lunges, bench press, dips and shoulder press. With these 8 exercises your entire body is worked, and for most people in this world, this is all you need to do.
FabledSomething I love it you are right on the dot
I personally think "End of the day it doesn't matter how much you lift as long as you get the form right"
""How using weights is killing your gains""
I like Scott and Jeff. Jeff shows that you can look amazing with amazing genetics and Scott shows you can look amazing with genetics that matches most of us. Jeff approaches lifting with the mindset of a physical therapist. That’s why he says certain exercises are not worth the risk reward. Scott tries to help most of us do the exercises we’re gonna do anyway more safely don’t maybe we don’t have to see a guy like Jeff to help us heal. I believe Jeff can lift the weight he does in the video as he is incredibly strong. I believe Scott could also. I respect both and mix info from both channels.
Great post my friend. Really enjoyed the kind words you had to say.
ScottHermanFitness You’re welcome and Thank you. I’ve learned a lot from your channel and pass the knowledge on. You’re the best!!
I reckon Scott shows a natural physique, where as I reckon athlean X isn't 100% drug free
M Diddles 87 I think Jeff is natural. He doesn’t store a lot of fat. He’s really not that big either at 5’10 172lbs.
I don't believe for one second he can deadlift the weights he misrepresented with the fake plates. If he could, then at his age and bodyweight that would make him one of the best deadlifters in the world. For an exercise he doesn't even actively work on! There's a reason powerlifters don't maintain super low levels of body fat: it's actively detrimental to performance.
It looks like entire UA-cam Fitness industry was waiting for Jeff to make a mistake. And they've finally got it.
People have been calling him out on his strength training advice for years. It's coming out in the light now because bigger UA-camrs have finally decided to cover it
'A mistake '😂👍
That's not the case. Jeff has actually made more than just this one mistake. Check out curlean X, the guy who exposed him for fake weights. His entire channel is dedicated for exposing Athlean X. Jeff has given plenty of bad advice and his validity as a strength coach is questionable. I was an Athlean X fan. I believed that he was this infallible fitness hero until I saw curlean x and some other UA-camrs.
@@NaturalHypertrophy you just seem like a hater. Jeff is a professional and puts out great information
You know, it is not a mistake, he make this on purpose, so he should come clean, I watch Jeff for 4 or 5 years, most of his advices are super, with some i disagree, but fake weights are not cool, he can use 10kg, nobody will complain, but I Will folow him even if he dont say enything.
This is somewhat akin to the shock one feels when they learn their burger doesn't look like it did in the commercial, lol.
Dude, on his deadlift, there’s only 4 plates on each side. That’s 8 plates plus bar. 9x45=405. Recheck your math.
I didn’t see the 5th plate until I saw it in super slo mo. So yeah, it is 495. But Jeff is ripped af so he shouldn’t have any trouble with lifting that.
Lol being ripped does not = strength
I know that. He has no reason to fake his shit.
Looking at the lift, it does look like a lot lighter.
@@johnbarton5 did you watch the video? Scott touched on some pretty valid points defending him. I was merely correcting you that str does not correlate to being shredded
Honestly who cares, his advice is top notch and its free, he's never claimed to have this super human strength and he just produces content to help people, everyone that's slandering him for this are doing so out of jealously and animosity because of his UA-cam success
No, he hasnt claimed to be superman, but he does reference the weight on the bar as if its really the weight he lifts...
Well said Dylan...
@BigDaddyCool42 lol multi millionair
If he lies about weights..... he can lie about anything. I care. This dude has lost all credibility.
@@Atlas_21 maybe to you, not me I appreciate technical advice
Maybe he was just showing form? I mean he never really brags about lifting so who cares. He’s still a beast lol.
Form for a lighter weight is different than form for a big weight. It's naive and misleading
@@plinkert22 where do you get the form for lifting heavy? Oh yea from lifting lighter weight till you can lift that heavier weight lol yes there are 2 different techniques for lifting heavy and light but Jeffs videos are for demonstration and mainly for those who don't know what there doing so no its not misleading its actually correct and Jeff never claims his videos are only for heavy lifters he does say and put an emphasis on form and technique if you have a good foundation and proper technique for your light lifts you can transfer that over to lifting heavy don't be so naive and think it cant
@@bluehornet197 if it's not for heavy lifters, he schouldn't fake using a heavy weight. Motor programming for max weights differs from that for lighter weights. As a physical therapist he should know that
@@plinkert22 if you already know how to lift I doubt that his videos would give you any good lifting tips again where do you get the form to lift heavy? Oh yeah by starting light and if you're doing multiple takes why wouldnt you use fake weights for demonstation purposes? That's like telling a a martial artist to start breaking real bricks and wooden planks compared to using the fake ones because oh maybe wood and concrete can damage bone and if you train beyond the point of exhaustion you can and will fuck up your muscles let alone your spine hell you can get nerve damage and you can tear your muscles and do some serious harm so again what's the actual issue with him using fake weights for demonstration? Is it so bad for someone to use fake weights so they don't injure themselves while trying to show proper technique? How about you start making videos on proper form with proper weights let's see how long you last during the video 🤣🤣🤣
@@bluehornet197 why would a relatively simple instruction need so many takes? Furthermore, doing multiple takes with a weight that you can handle for reps and sets, shouldn't be a problem. If it was just for educational purposes, the use of a lighter than average weight would be more defendable. There's no positive educational effect from using fake plates.
In order to show progression I just keep writing a higher number on the weights and right now I’m up to a 5000 pound dead lift.
I couldn't give a crap if he uses fake weights. His programs are top notch. His physique speaks for itself.
He isn't natural though still love him
Even if Jeff comes and tell me he cheats in any manner. I won't believe him. He made me look well and feel good as I used to feel 6-7 years back. His 6-7-8 minutes ab workouts are Godsent! 🙏🏽
He definitely does mostly good stuff for the fitness industry. But are you telling me if Jeff himself told you he used fake weights you still wouldn’t believe it to be true? 😂😂😂 That’s funny as fuck

Akash Kumayu That’s fair enough I suppose, you do you
That's just illogical..
@@maximilianjohandson3382 I don't care.
Does it really destroy his credibility though? He doesn't go around claiming the numbers like Castleberry.
Right ? Jeff still delivers great information in his videos.
I personally dont think that it is wrong for him to use those weights because he is not trying to sell you that „buy my program and lift those heavy weights right here“.
For the single purpose of it being easier after multiple takes on a clip I dont see a problem with it.
Plus with the stream of info in Jeff‘s videos I have never paid attention to how much is on the bar.
Yeah, and besides, most people dont watch Jeff for how much he can lift, there are better channels for that. Most people watch him because he has an immense amount of knowledge of the topic
@@justhair17 i watch his vids not for major lifts but for the functionality, bodyweight exercises, blunt honesty about nutrition, mobility exercises, and stretches + treatments for injuries or muscle problems. fake weights or not his content still helps when it comes to form or at least feeling the muscles that are supposed to be involved in an exercise like in his Master Tip series.
@@twentyonetortas5921 agree

His main motto is putting science back into strength 😐
@@NinaWagner-Fors ay ay ay scott aint no clown nigga
His deadlift and bench press technique is atrocious
How does sub count invalidate the argument. ??
Yes, he does great technique advice like telling people to breathe out before descent on the squat.
Who cares if his weights are fake. What is important for me is the content of his videos. Also, Jeff has great physique for his age.
That's the right attitude! His videos were never about weights. They have always been about proper form, right techniques, effective exercises and "putting science back in strength" as he says and last but not least to train like an athlete. That kind of expose has no effect on me, I'm still going to watch Athlean X like this has never happened.
Kristian Lattunen good little sheep
I never even looked at the weights. Who gives a...... Most men would want that body. His info and perspective are nice to hear. And you should never believe everything you hear from anyone. Always learn with your own experience
Doesn't matter, that's fraud. Quit making excuses for grown men.
If you're watching for the content he provides, why should his physique even come into the picture?
Also, he's given some ridiculous advice pertaining to strength training over the years (breathe out before squat descent, partial reps on bench, 10x10 squats @80%1RM with 1 minute rest in between sets). Either he's utterly incompetent at strength training, or he's being deceptive by saying all this just to grab extra views. Both of those outcomes reflect poorly on Jeff. I don't see how any rational person could look beyond all of this and claim Jeff is still good.
if lifting fake weights can help my body to look like Jeff's, then i'll be more than happy to do the same !
