Yeah and Jeff could have avoided all this if he just admitted to the fake weights. Sad
Exactly, no one would have questioned him doing the 90lb dumbells if he hadn't been caught out using fake weights
Jeff was definitely using fake 90lb dumbbells. He ain't strong enough to handle them like that.

There was a guy in my gym only slightly bigger than Jeff and not as muscular, he lifted 35kg(~78lbs) dumbbells pretty regularly. I think Jeff is in better shape than him so I find it believable. I also see my friends who can easily bench more than me not able to keep up in dumbbell chest press, I think it's the habit of that particular motion that some of them can lift easily while others find it harder. I'm no expert, just my deduction.
Keep in mind that Jeff is: "old", shredded and doesn't weigh much which it harder to push heavy weights. But sure I believe the 90's were real

I dont think it's so much the lift itself that anyone was questioning with that weight more just how he handled the weight mostly in lifting it from the ground to his knees in a starting position he almost straight up curled one of them off the floor which given jeffs empathise on safety and joint care ect seems a weird thing to do with that weight as it is the type of way you'd lift a really light weight into starting position but not a heavyish weight (if you care about longevity as jeff promotes heavily) which makes it look dodgy
Dude I remember watching your Videos and Tutorials in 2009 when I started working out! They're were awesome , helped me a lot!
Back then I benched 45lbs Dumbells , now I can do 110 for 10 Reps.
90lbs Dumbells is really not big of a deal, especially when you're enhanced like Greg Doucette and Jonni Shreve , I really don't know why they're think they fake.
Greeting from Germany :))
After about 7 years of religiously lifting I just finally broke 325 on my flat bench. I did this dumbell workout. From Jeff's clip I can say his struggle was genuine. I made it to about 11 reps on each arm before I couldn't continue...with 90s. So I firmly believe his weights are real. I've been watching you both for some time and used both your tips and tricks to maximize progression for strength primarily. 90 aren't difficult per say but they can be tiring because the TUT is constant.
Lol, Scott literally treats the 90lbs dumbbells as a warm up weight before a real weighted set. 🥂

@@WLOfails yeah dont do that lol...if u wanna get stronger you need to lift more weights. Barbell is easier to load up. This doesn't mean dumbbells are bad but for strength alone. Barbell forsure.. dumbells are better for stabilization and like fixing muscle imbalances
My chest day is the most inconsistent training day. But over a year and a halve I went from 15 lbs db to 35 and not even trying to and worrying for my shoulders so I really don’t want to go too high. I'm with you Scott. I'm nowhere near as big as AthleanX, so I'm not lifting 90 lbs. However, I am lifting 75 lbs for almost 3 sets of 10 reps, so him lifting 90s seems about right to me. Plus, he was struggling on those last couple reps.
yeah, I mean.. it gets heavy... it did for me. But its a normal weight you would expect Jeff to be able to lift.
Alternative reps are different than regular ones
@@ScottHermanFitness sure but everyone’s bone structures are different - you and Jeff may be around the same height but you seem to have a thicker bone structure . Plus going by a static “he’s lifted X amount of years means he should lift X amount of weight” is a bit shortsighted seeing as everyone has different muscle fiber compositions .
Some of us have more strength fibers , while others have more “size” fibers… hybrid fibers can be the only argument to back up the “x time lifted = x amount of lbs he should be able to lift” but that’s only in the context that they actually trained for strength .
Someone who’s a physical therapist is most likely not training much for strength (or at least not to the point of pushing pr after pr) , so despite giving a go at higher weights regardless if they were fake or not , the aforementioned above needs to be taken into account instead of a static statement of “he’s lifted this long , he should be this strong”.
@@pandahsykes602 your reasoning is exactly why it DOES make more sense to talk about how long he's been consistently training as opposed to all the people talking about whether or not he's big enough to lift x amt. He may not have trained for 1 rep max, but he would still be progressively overloading any program. Over years this will still get you strong (just not as fast as focusing specifically on strength). He has probably been at it for 25+ years.
Idk im using the 78lbs(?)35kg dummies for reps of 6 till my form breaks after training for 4months(spent an extra month on 27,5jg due to no equipment) on the movement and some trashy powerlifting i did like 7 years ago as a teenager so i don't think someone that has trained for that long would struggle with the 90s which is 40kg if i remember right. Plus i consider myself a damn pussy in push movement so yeh... Idk lol.
For those who haven't tried, bench pressing 90lb dumbbells is much more difficult than barbell bench pressing 180lbs.
I was never huge, and I was always natural and I used to do 85 lb dumbbells for reps for overhead presses, which is harder than flat benching. Jeff can definitely do this. People are just creating drama because they are out of content.

Jeff was struggling from the first lift. You could see him shaking with every rep. Why is it so hard to believe? Are they going after him just for views?
Lately I've been feeling bad for Jeff cause its become a trend to hate on him in the UA-cam fitness community. He made a mistake with the fake 45s and I bet he regrets it. Kind of felt confused by that initial reaction on the DBs too. I’m definitely not the strongest guy but I’ve been lifting for a long time and can do this for a handful of reps too. If he had on the first 45 lb plate call-outs none of the other 70 videos made about his fake weights afterwards would’ve been made. If you haven't already, I would suggest watching a variety of generally reliable fitness channels to see how the information stacks up. You can be surprised by how different "sounding like he knows what hes talking about" and the quality of what hes actually saying is. Theres been a lot of things he has done in videos that aren't agreed upon by a lot of other athletes. Not saying he is a fraud or not trustworthy at all, just widen your range of information if you haven't already. Someone like John Meadows is brilliant, and may he rest in peace.
Like expelling all of your air before you squat? Some advice is sound but some is just damn right dangerous.
@@GODAIM-ANDY try building your life around criticizing other people and see where it leads you. Cheers!
Scott my good man, please cross check this, but I believe the critique on the 90s was in response to a workout Jeff was doing. I recall a Jeff video where he was trying to get in a good chest workout in only 20 minutes and the 90 lbs DB press was at the end. I agree with you; however I would also agree that a 90 lb DB press at the end of an already grueling chest routine is hard to pull off. At the beginning of a workout it is no problem.
💯 the truth
Sup Scott! Hope you’re doing well and your family!
Thanks Tony! We are great! Hope you are well too!
@@ScottHermanFitness yes sir I am thank you! Stay safe!
Felt the exact same way about this. 90 lbs isn't thattttt heavy. My best flat bench is 355. I don't do flat DB press, but my best incline was 95 lb dumbells for 17 reps. I doubt the dude has a rack full of fake dumbells. Looked real to me.
in my early, me and a buddy that have been lifting since highschool could do the max dumbells in 24 hour fitness which were 120lb. It's really not that heavy, we specifically focused on dumbells while our bench presses turned to shit lol.
I think this is a problem with specificity training
@Jo Jo fuck yeah lol
But typically it will comes down to specificity too. If you don’t do dumbbell chest presses then you will typically be much worse at it than the barbell stuff that you have been training in
@Jo Jo absolutely. I mean, I'm doing 95 lb dumbells for 17 reps. I'm sure someone benching 275 could hit 90's for at least 8.
My best incline is 115's for 10.my best flat is 135's for 10.I do 12 on flat bench flyes with 90's.
@@rickstark85 Still not where I want to be.I get 150's for 10 I'll be happy.
I’m small at 145 and I could press 70lb. I’m sure he can Jeff could do 90lb
Thats strong man!
@@ScottHermanFitness I recently hit 70lb dumbbells for 4x7 on bench press. I fully believe I can hit 90lbs in less than a year. I believe Jeff did not lift fake weights in this instance, and Greg is overreacting.
@@captain593 Greg is only in for clout chasing... I used to follow him before but his schtick becoming annoying
@@captain593 He isn't overreacting. He is doing this shit on purpose. I don't understand why some of these "men" keep on creating this drama. A really really nice guy. So honest, so cool, so HUMAN. That makes him BIG in my book 👍💪💪
Thanks for the video and proving that some people just want to get views by accusing jeff and other big youtubers for using fake weight when clearly they aren't
i do 35kg incline db press for 3/4 sets pretty easily and if my gym had 40 im pretty sure id be able to do them by now too (i aint even that big). Thought the same when i saw johnnys video
yeah, even when I talked to some of my bros about it at my gym before filming the video they all thought the same thing
When Jack LaLanne was well into his senior years he was lifting dumbbells way heavier than 90 lbs.
Im only moderatly fit. But I do the 40kg DBs as part of my chest routine once a week. It´s heavy, but not THAT heavy. And if you are really fit (like a bodybuilder) and train every day, the 40kg DBs are just not gonna be an issue.
This is the very first video of your that I am watching and I agree 100%. I've been lifting for 28 years. I've lifted a lot of things, I've curled human beings. This is not impossible. Cool video!🤙
Honesty pays! I'm happy to follow & take tips for gain's..... Let's see what your posting 💪👍
Collab with Greg have a chat with him about sensitive topics in the fitness industry.
Seriously. If you’ve been lifting for 4 or 5 years, it’s not hard. At all. Even as a natty. Sets of 10 all day every day. I’m around 190 lbs. I can only imagine how much easier it would be on gear.
It won’t make it easier but faster to progress .
You’re 190lbs, so that’s not even your body weight man. Would that be “not that hard” at my 154lbs, where I have to displace 26 more lbs than my body weight?
@@alyxfaust5663 I have done 105 lb dumbbells before. Obviously not as easy for me as 90. I was just suggesting it’s a strength level Virtually all men could get to. We won’t all do the same reps with it or course.
@@maia3420 Nice man! Diesel boy that’s for sure🤣 It’s crazy when you think about it when on UA-cam you see guys lifting 150s for a press. I’ve never found DBs to be the easiest to progress with, seeing as they go 2.5 to 5 lbs at a time.
I thought I was crazy for thinking the same. I'm weak af and could do it as well as a natty. Good call Scott.
haha your comment made me laugh man, but you are right. Not a hard feat for a natty.
when I was only 130lbs at 21yo, I used 35kg (close to 80lb) dumbells for inclined dumbell presses. jeff cavaliere is a lot taller and bigger than I am/was, greg and jonni were definitely stretching it with 90lbs being fake.
Scott, I'm glad you said this. I honestly stopped watching your channel entirely the last time you engaged in this drama. It did nothing for me as a loyal viewer to help me benefit. Only served to give you and the others that clout chased views. I think you realize, as you seem to be a reasonable guy, that Jeff is in a league of his own when it comes to content creators on youtube. He knows more than most, if not all, and he stays out of the crap and gives his viewers the information they need. You've always reminded me of him that way and I'm glad you could reflect that in this video. I'd love to see you two do a video one day. I for one have never been bothered by fake weights. I don't even care if he was using them to make himself look stronger. We both know that what he lifts has no merit on what I lift. People who argue it makes people want to buy his programs? C'mon. They buy his programs (I actually own 3 of them) because what he says works. Period. So again, glad you took this route and I hope you continue to. Makes you so much better than a clout chasing view monger like Greg (who if you haven't noticed, can no longer get views unless he puts Jeff in his titles).
Appreciate the heart felt comment Jared and I am happy to have you back ☺️

I'm of the opinion that if creators stopped the drama and went back to trying to help thier audiences we'd all be better off.
As long as people aren't putting out false/detrimental information to thier audience who cares?
The point is/should be more people getting healthier.
And you Jeff and Greg all put out useful information.
And thanks for being fair, that says a lot about your character.
Hell I can do a large percentage of that weight and I'm not very strong.
Appreciate that Paul.
This why meadows was amazing: no drama just knowledge and lifting 💪
@@johnjohntv1195 definitely he was an inspiration of not only physically but also what a man/father should be.
You see if Greg actually did that he would have no content to make since his actual "fitness advice" consist of taking fat burners, sleeping pills and some other BS he promotes. Also his best exercise videos are months apart. He cares more about making videos about other and playing a character than actually make fitness content that better people. It is even more ironic that he uses the phrase " spews for views" since that is all he does.
@@khaalmalki4039 I agree he's (Greg) not cranking out use able content all the time but I've learned things from him over the years and I don't see him putting out blatantly false information.
Just like any other fact based genre on UA-cam I'd suspect that you'd run out of viable content before too long.
I just want every one of these guys that provide good information to do as well as possible because the sad thing is humans are getting increasingly unhealthy and parents are not leading thier children by positive example.
Every time I see a obese child it's really sad because thier parents are abusing them but society doesn't acknowledge it, and those kids don't know any better.
We've engineered our life of comfort to the point it's killing us.
That being said I appreciate where you are coming from, take care of yourself 👍.
Me screaming at the screen “just wear shoes!”
Didn't see the original videos, or Greg, or Jonni's. However this clears it up pretty darn good. Keep keeping it real..
Damn, i totally forgot about Scott, i used to watch his videos way back in 2016, when i first got into fitness and bodybuilding, he was one of the very few who had a youtube channel dedicated to bodybuilding and fitness, and there were a lot of things i learnt from his videos. Good to see you're still going strong Scott... 👍👍👍👍
Yeh he failed to make the most out of it
Calling 90 pounds a heavy weight for dumbbells just shows how weak Greg is LMAO, dude called himself out.
I'm skinny AF and use at least 60s for reps, so seeing Jeff with 90s didn't even begin to seem weird to me.
Agreed!
wow really takes some serious character to make the right move in both situations. Shows you're not a blind follower, some lameass gossiper hating on someone for social points. You actually have real integrity.
Love the honesty. And what a good guy! Setting things straight.. I like it. No one does it so good on ya mate!
Where's Greg, Scott's handling them easier than Jeff 😂😂 big fan, been following you for year's man! Your channel helped me a lot when I was getting staaaarted
Happy to hear that Derrick!
I really don’t understand any beef with Jeff’s videos. He’s mostly for form and technique not for lifting heavy weights. I never check how much he’s lifting, I use his channel for information, not looking for how much Jeff is lifting. Good video.
What good is form if you're not progressing? Point of having good form is to be able to not break apart when weight does get heavy. The fact that I am stronger than Jeff in just one year of strength training is proof that he is a joke.
@@JoeyCentral you being stronger than Jeff is irrelevant lol
@@Str8Rippin93 It is relevant. Who would you trust to teach you how to deadlift, someone who lifts 800 or someone with a 400 dead
@@RuGra7zz look I'm not the biggest Jeff fan however how strong someone is not the end all be all. You can't just simply listen to the people who lift the most otherwise we should only listen to Ronnie Coleman and world's strongest man competitors
@@JoeyCentral Jeff isn’t here to show you his progression. Rather the exercises. So his strength, progress, etc isn’t relevant at least not to me. He’s into functional strength not max weight so how much he lifts shouldn’t be the reason you watch or not watch. Other UA-camrs, yes if they are about lifting heavy for strength and progression.
Yeah Im pretty light weight but I can get 80s on a good day if I do them first. 90 lbs really isn't that bad, my brother uses the 100s
strong man! nice!
To be fair, Johnny didn't say it wasn't because of the workout but rather the easy way he handle the weights to get in position in the bench
Excellent video Scott. Thanks. You are right, sometimes smoke equals fire, sometimes it’s just a bbq.
Jonni pointing out his size as a way of defending how much stronger he is than jeff when he clearly pumps a ton of drugs which will make you look stronger than you actually are.
3:53 check jeff hand position it is close to his stomach and not exactly over his chest do you think you can balance 90 pounds dumbbell in that position? if he did it really fast maybe be like this?? NOPE
Easily. I rep the 100s for sets of 15reps
If anything, and if there was still a doubt, the way he is shaking with these 90 pounds DB after a few reps just confirms his 305 lbs benchpress sets were indeed fake as F.
Single arm dumbellpress is a whole nother thing. And he'd already done a chest day. Size of his chest and you doubt 305lbs..
Always a classy legit guy. Good on you Scott!
Honestly 90lbs aren’t that heavy for how muscular Jeff is, and aren’t that heavy to even people less muscular than him..
I’m 5.5, 120lbs and I lift 60lbs DB for 10 reps.
the point is, if i can lift that and i’m relatively small, i bet Jeff who is way more muscular than me can do the 90lbs no problem.
im 5'4 and 138 lbs. my highest was 90s for 5 reps. i train mainly for absolute strength.
Scott is definitely a natty. You can tell. I love his channel.
haha I dont even know what that means but thanks!
@@ScottHermanFitness I meant natty, not nasty lol
@@bblack2015ab Yeah even if you meant natty, it could still be seen as an insult. Because being called not natty if you are actually natty is a huge compliment. So essentially you are saying Scott looks unimpressive by calling him natty. Im sure you didn't mean it though lol
Its because the guys saying its fake are on steroids. Ironically, guys on roids are usually pretty weak, and they get big from lifting 50s lol
You are not wrong. Most of the juiced up guys at my gym are not that strong. Granted a few are massive AND strong... but most are huge with average strength and they skip full range of motion.
@@ScottHermanFitness scruff looks good bro
I do sets with 70lb DBs and I'm nothing special. I can't see why Jeff couldn't do 90s.
totally agree with Scott, I'm a newbie (been at it for 7ish months), and I lift 60 lbs DBs for 6 reps of 4 sets.... jeff should definitely be the kind of guy to lift 90s with no problem since he has been training for years.
Yes, I totally agree. I remember seeing you do drop sets starting with 95lbs back in the day. Greg isn't doing his brand any good with continually making snide comments about Jeff. It's childish at this point. Let it go Greg. Well done Scott in rising above it. I think respond if someone says something inaccurate about what you do, but otherwise "create" content, rather than re-heating someone else's is a better way to go. I think Greg should clear the air with Jeff, or just forget about him.
Thanks for posting this. I was going out of my mind thinking that even I could get a few reps out at 90lbs, and my strength isn't insane. I just unsubscribed from Greg for posting a short skit knocking Jeff. All this bashing other creators non stop is pathetic. I miss actual content, not all these people trying to be the keemstar of fitness youtube.
You're forgetting that Jeff did exercises before he picked up the 90s with a short amount of rest, you started on 90s 1st, yes extremely easy. Jeff's point was based on training in a short amount of time. So he's either working with weight that's far to easy or he's got a couple of weights that aren't what they say they are. Do Jeff's workout to your 100 percent then lead up to them 90s.. it should be hard to handle. Just sayn...
Look how hard Jeff is straining while Scott is casually talking most of it.
Definitely not weight that is far too easy. Look at Jeff during the reps. If it was what he started with, he wouldn't be straining very much. In the video, my guy is working hard for those reps.
The guy does fitness for a living. Why people can't grasp that he might actually be very strong for his size is beyond me. And it's not like 90 is even that heavy. Maybe if you're a newbie or are inconsistent or just plain don't know what you're doing. But for anyone who is consistent and has the basics down right, this is not some unbelievable weight to lift by any stretch.
@@jimbobjunior. lmao 🤣 sure kid sure.. .
