    I have the updated, no speaker, version of the T7. Oddly, there is no down jog shortcut to the brightness control. I have to go to the menu to change it.

    Hi, great video. Could you explain the difference between "user" and "camera" when loading a LUT? Also, is there a way to dial up or down the LUT intensity?

    Question for everyone here: I have this T7 monitor and its crazy good. But it does seem to have the issue that it over exposes the highlights with its preloaded view assist LUTS. The Canon R5/R6 had this same issue with its view assist function but was recently fixed with a firmware. I’m thinking of making my own CLOG3 view assist LUT for this monitor so it accurately reflects exposure. Has anyone done this already? Many thanks!

    Recently rediscovered your UA-cam videos and subscribed!
    Question please-
    Are the exposure tools (waveform, false color) before or after a monitor applied LUT?
    In other words- Does turning on a LUT (on the monitor) change/effect the exposure tools readouts?
    Great content, sir!

      Yeah, I was about to buy this thing until I found out that false color works only on the pre-LUT signal. Kind of ridiculous that they don't give the user an option to let it work on a post-LUT signal as well.

    Hi Scott, great video presentation! I have bought the monitor and would like to ask you 2 questions: the monitor image is horizontally not fully adjusted, and has two black lines on the upper side and bottom side. Is there any way to have an image filling the whole monitor? 2d: I have seen Carlos Quinteros's presentation of OSEE G7 and noticed that AF following a small frame is shown on the monitor, too. Is it possible to have it on the OSEE T7, too? Thanks a lot beforehand.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 роки тому

      Honestly not entirely sure, but it could also depend on your workflow (if you expose to the right, what LUT you plan on using, etc) ...best way is to test some clips at different exposures using a grey card, for example, with middle grey set at 35, 40, 45, 50... IRE, then try to grade them all and see what looks best. Then, go through with the camera set at the exposure you found to be best, and see which false color matches the middle grey exposure you're aiming for. Hope that makes sense.

    Hello Scott. Nice review as always. I was looking for this monitor here in Greece and i found the SWIT CM-S75C witch looks the same in every aspect except the name. Do you have any idea if the same monitor or something else? Thank you.

    Thank you for this in depth review! A puchased this monitor a few days ago and I was super happy with it. Just yesterday I discovered that the exposure tools are ignoring the luts and I was totally devistated. Now I watch your review again and you say that this is a good thing? Can you please try and explain? I totally don't get it! Lets say I use the histogram. I need to see if I'm too close to crush the blacks or blow the highs, which hardly happenes when the log is measured. Please explain, would appreciate any help!

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 роки тому +2

      Well I guess ideally you’d have the choice to measure pre or post LUT but in most cases when you’re judging exposure for middle grey or when manufacturers say the log profile clips are ~ IRE, that’s in reference to the LOG profile, not a rec709 LUT so having waveforms and false color that measures the LOG profile help to match those recommendations/guidelines

    • @mozzfather
      @mozzfather 3 роки тому

      @@ScottDumas That is true. From that perspective basically it doesn't matter, because for both situations you your values you have to take care of. So if you have the time, you can measure the correct exposure for log with a waveform. But for me as I am a run and gun shooter it is cruical that I see on one glance that the I don't blow the highlights or crush the blacks and I could do that very easily with a histogram which measures the LUT. There I see directly if I have to push or pull, without looking at those fine lines of a waveform and thinking about at what point in this flimmsy little thing I loose info. So for my this is totally unlogical. Also because the log footage is only a workaround. Basically I look at the reality, then use log to maximize DR and in the end I put out a rec709 image. So measuring something that only something "in-between" doesn't make sense at all, because in the color grade I have to take care of the values of a 709 picture, the log footage itself doesn't play any role any more. Do you get my point, it's somehow hard to explain :D
      Thank you for answering and greetings from germany!

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 роки тому +2

      @@mozzfather If you do want to make sure you don't blow your highlights for example, manufacturers also provide the clipping IRE point for their log profiles, so you could still judge that from the log profile, even more accurately than just viewing the rec 709 image visually, especially if you want to maximize your DR by ETTR as much as possible without clipping. In that case, the straight conversion LUT or monitoring lut will look overexposed, but you're not really losing the info. In the edit, you'd pull the exposure down or tweak it to use all the DR that you captured. For that same reason, some people use ETTR monitoring LUTs instead of standard Rec709 conversion luts. But in any case, you could also rely on things like zebras to make sure you're not clipping your highlights etc. If DR is your main concern, correctly exposing the LOG profile is the way to do that, so monitoring exposure from the LOG profile is best. And for run and gun shooters the great thing about this "page" type set up, is that you can swap between 2 pages with different sets of assist features in less than a second... one with your LUT, framing guides and focus guides for shooting, and another stacked with false color, waveforms etc for checking exposure. You can swap back and forth between those in a second which in my opinion is the fastest and most unobtrusive workflow especially for people who are working with that time crunch. Anyway, I hope it does work out for you!

      @mozzfather 3 роки тому

      @@ScottDumas Hi Scott! Thank you so much for this detailed answer! And yes, you are absolutely right. I was shooting before on an fs7. It was so easy to ettr because you could manipulate the luts internally. Now I switched to an a7s III and for ettr I use the luts from alister chapman. I find that they have quite wrong colours, but for the start it'll do. I tried to make my own ettr lut, but struggeled to succed. With premiere it is nonsense, with resolve I don't know how much I should bring down exposure to have -1,5 in the end. The website tool lutcalc is very powerful but was quite overwelming, so I stick to the alister chapman Luts. At least I had a couple of succesful shoots with them and got used to read the histogram of the log material. I'm really wondering that there is almost no tutorials on how to make yourself a decent ettr lut, is everybody looking at overeyposed images? :D
      So if you ever have the time to teach your community in these kind of things I'm sure it would be very much appreciated.
      Sending you greetings from germany!

      @@mozzfather Hi! I've just been using the Phantom LUTs actually (both to monitor and for final grading) and they're fantastic. He recommends a standard exposure to work best with his LUTs, not so much ETTR, so that's what I've been doing for the most part. It makes it very easy to eyeball it and it looks very good for clients looking on. Other than that I'd imagine slog3-rec709 ETTR luts exist, even if they're not great, and I'd just use that for monitoring purposes if I needed to. The Phantom LUTs and workflow have worked amazingly for me though. Hope that helps

    Does the T7 have a glossy screen? Because I just bought and returned the Swit CM-S75C and the screen was matte, and really poor quality. Could see a colour further pattern from the screen itself and some really bad colour banding. Wondering if the Osee screen is different despite the monitor being the same design?

    Did you notice look turns off when you turn on false color

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 роки тому

      Yes, it monitors the pre-LUT image so that you can see the true values of what your camera is capturing (some things might look clipped with the LUT for example, but in reality the data is there so this can be useful) ...it might be nice to have the option of pre or post LUT be user selectable, and I'd be happy to see them add that, but for now this is how it works with this monitor.

    Hello Scott. Why does the focus peaking shows green lines at the edge of the screen? It seems to be a very good monitor but this looks so bad

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  4 роки тому

      Hi! I believe it's because the monitor is taller than the standard 16:9 image and I've seen the same thing happen with other monitors where the image doesn't fill up the whole screen also I think... I've gotten used to it so would have to double check to be 100% sure but I think it's just highlighting the contrast of the image on the monitor overall, therefor those edges against the black space above and below.

    I have a problem. I bought a SWIT CM-S75C monitor to work with Sony A7III. During filming, I use the HLG3 profile in the camera, which slightly flattens the image dynamics. The monitor, on the other hand, has the ability to upload solder that would emulate the image to the level as if no profile was used. I did a solder like this, but unfortunately the monitor reports no support for this file. I have no idea what I can do to make the solder work with this monitor. Maybe you can do something. Thanks in advance.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  4 роки тому

      Hi! If you have a LUT that converts the HLG profile to rec709 I believe there should be no problems loading .cube files into the monitor for that purpose. I'm not sure exactly what file you have available but the format may be the issue.
