An amazing moment in history. From the time when the locomotive was sat at the National Railway Museum to this. It has been and still is an epic journey. Well done to you boys, staff, volunteers and all to make this possible. A massive thanks is well deserved.
I always wanted to travel in the HST but sadly due to the pandemic I can’t. But luckily I appreciate these type of you tubers who show the videos of my favourite high speed train . THANK YOU
I went on it when it was based in Ruddington just hearing her and travelling on her was an honour & still a stunning piece of machinery in my eyes. Still lovely to see her now and again at Locomotion.
Just how I remember the valenta powered HSTs! Noisy, rumbly throaty sound and lots of smoke! Very nostalgic, nice to see this old British Rail life-saver roar into life again. I wonder if those engineer back in the early 70s had any idea how important and long lived their creation would turn out to be!?
I was actually working on the fire alarm system in Paxmans gate house one day when all hell broke lose. It turned out that security had let a low loader drive in and get one of these engines loaded onto it a drove out with no one asking for paperwork. It tuned out to be a test by GEC, but there were some changes in the gatehouse when they got it back.
Great achievement. Was speaking to one of your chaps at GCRN diesel gala, I know you said it would be ready soon but I wasn't expecting to hear these sounds this soon. Great work.
Spot on! Get in lads, top job, I have never seen Valenta engine working... now I know that was a bad thing! :P Well done to everyone involved and to whom filmed this video! Once again, Top Job, All! :D Ethan
Magnificent. As a Hastings DEMU follower involved in our group from 1986 and also present at the fire up of 1001 in 89 at St Leonards, I know that those of us there that day will know how you all felt on starting up 41001. There was always something about that Valenta sound. I'm happy to now go on line and make a donation to your group. Keep up the good work - preserved diesel has an awful lot going for it.
41001 is it's original prototype number. I think it was to do with it being renamed 43000 when it was re-classified into the carridge numbering system.
That would be cool to see it up & down the country. I was mistaken it was actually the class 89 GNER had in service, I think the prototype for the class 90 / 91?
I'm interested to see what the rest of the train will look like when this finally hits the main line... MK3 rake in original prototype livery? But what will be on the other end? I'd like to see the first preserved and re-valenta'd 43 in original Intercity 125 livery!
Proper engine lives again, you can take your MTU junk and VP185 rubbish and stick them where the sun doesn't shine, Valenta is the ONLY engine for the HST, anything else simply will not do.
Is this still cleared to operate on the mainline? Did GNER not run the other prototype in service in their early years or am I thinking of something else?
I seem to have seen the class 43s had aux cabs at the back... but not sure if they were converted into a guard's compartment. After all, why would they need a MK3 TGS?
Anyone know when this will be running on any National Rail track? I think they restored this to working order because of growing demand for HSTs. I could be wrong, they could just be restoring this for heritage purposes.
we need to replace all mtu shit and vp185 engines with valentas they will outlast mtu shit engines any day and kill them on speed and power an mtu could not do notch 2 let alone notch 5 without blowing up.
Seeing this has made me quite emotional. I thought I'd never again hear the delightful sound of a valenta engine.... Well done everyone!

Wow!! I'm so happy and pleased for the 125 Group for making this possible. Very delighted.
I went on it when it was based in Ruddington just hearing her and travelling on her was an honour & still a stunning piece of machinery in my eyes. Still lovely to see her now and again at Locomotion.
Lovely to hear and see another valenta erupt into life again! Well done chaps! Cant wait to see it all completed! Cheers
forget hs2 just replace all hsts with valenta engines they will last another 30 years.
I wish
Excellent, excellent work lads. It's great to see yet another piece of British Railway heritage back on the rails again.... APT next ;)
Yes can we have my brother APT?
Flipping love love this!! Well done lads, long live the Valenta HST :)
Speechless best thing I have seen and herd in a long time
What a magical sound.
I thank Project Miller for giving 41001 it's life and bringing the Valenta back in service with it.
What a beautiful sight, and of course, sound. Well done guys!!
Nice to see 41001 running again after all these years.
Make her scream! I miss the double hit of screaming Valenta's. Loving your work guys.
Well done guys great to see a Valenta in it too the sound is amazing and it started up quite quick

soundseeker63 it was no wonder I didn't want to be down by a train track when I was younger when one of these were coming past.
Absolutely HELLFIRE lads......Well done to you all.
Good to hear this. My Grandad worked on these engines at Paxman back in the day.

Absolutley brilliant!! Well done.

Sounds beautiful. 😀
Oh how I've missed that sound, especially 2:11 onwards.
Wow stunning !!!
Oh my god, I've forgotten how much I loved the noise of a Valenta... :|
I know the Valentas were noisy, but as a train enthusiast, I miss them. So, well done in resurrecting this locomotive.
Absolutley Amazing, i hope they bring this back to become a charter train

thanks for the info Ian. Thought it was about time I went back to the history board on trains, as its been a while due to things.
Excellent.. I want to hear that screaming sound again.
well done guys!
Im looking forward to seeing this on the mainline again in the near future.
Not atm! But I believe they are working on getting it Mainline Registered. The other Power Car was scrapped in 1990 according to WIKI.
Well done! :D Sounds brilliant.
omg i love it, dreadful sound, well done you guys!!!
First start up, and engine run, after maintenance/service. 252(41)00.
Beautiful :')
it would be great to see her on the mainline again :)
Just completely hellfire !
fantastic to see the engine is working are you going to put her back on mainline services i for one would love to see her running again brilliant work
Beast!
Phenomenal! Well done guys :)
Congrats chaps from another group who likes to start up Vintage Paxman engines.... Project D8233 ;)

It's alive!
CLAGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And what is unusual. She's got buffers
HELLFIRE!!!!!!
A "Clagmire" at the start :-D
Start up at 0:27
89 is cool and was not the prototype for class 90/91 btw
This was of course 43000, 43001 was cut up many years ago so that's not possible
Greta thumbrug this is life this is what we need
2:10 All is right again in the world
Is this the Power unit that was stored at the national railway museum ?
Yes, however in its storage the the engine unit was sectioned (i think) and inoperable.
Does anyone know if a 12RP200L has been installed ?
James Stephenson Yes this is a Paxman Valenta 12RP200L. 125Group wouldn't settle for any VP185 or MTU :P
美しい
Proper engine lives again, you can take your MTU junk and VP185 rubbish and stick them where the sun doesn't shine, Valenta is the ONLY engine for the HST, anything else simply will not do.
VP185s all the way. Best engine for the HST.. 🚄
Is this still cleared to operate on the mainline? Did GNER not run the other prototype in service in their early years or am I thinking of something else?
New lungs required
Thank god for rail workers union rules on a second man in the cab, or THIS is what the 125 would always have looked like.
Does this power car still have the auxiliary cab at the rear?
I think only the prototypes had them for easy movement around depots.
I seem to have seen the class 43s had aux cabs at the back... but not sure if they were converted into a guard's compartment. After all, why would they need a MK3 TGS?
2:10 ...nuff said
your welcome the 90 was a updated 87 then the 91 came off the 90
Anyone know when this will be running on any National Rail track? I think they restored this to working order because of growing demand for HSTs. I could be wrong, they could just be restoring this for heritage purposes.
Heritage purposes :)
Question. Why is the front of this HST different from those typically seen run by LNER and such?
It's a prototype. they had to change it as aslef said that they wanted two drivers and this cab could only accommodate one
you get more life in a cemertry than you get out of an mtu engine you might as well put them in a class 101 dmu.
we need to replace all mtu shit and vp185 engines with valentas they will outlast mtu shit engines any day and kill them on speed and power an mtu could not do notch 2 let alone notch 5 without blowing up.
You are aware that the MTUs replaced the Valentas?
a blue white smoke is not so good in diesel ehh??
Diesel?
oh didnt D9000catch fire what a shame should all be cut up .
Timothy Smith You know nothing about British Railways do you?
an nother crummy deisel what a load of shit replace it with a decant loco like a black 5/8 f /9f 3f .
Timothy Smith It’s actually a very important part of British Rail history. I’m guessing you know nothing about trains, railways etc.
