Project Miller is an initiative by the 125 Group to bring the prototype HST Powercar 41001 back to life. In association with the NRM, the 125 Group is currently custodian of the vehicle and has been working to bring the distinctive Valenta sound back. Through the time we have had the powercar, the BBC has been gathering footage which resulted in this piece on BBC Look North.

Engineering music to my ears 😄
Iconic soundtrack 🙏🏼❤️
Quite literally the best sounding engine to exist
Hst forevermore
For me the ultimate place to experience Valentas was Bristol Parkway, up road. Two notches to get the train moving, then give it the lot. Took off like a scalded cat with the turbocharger heading for the stratosphere! So impressive. The MTUs are more efficient, but there's no drama.
AND SOMEBODY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEAD TO PUT A GUARDS POSITION RIGHT BEHIND THIS BET THEY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS A LOVELY NOISE.
Can you do another vid about 3hours long 😂
Can we have a 1 hour version please?
Shame the NRM took it back after all that work.
Brings back so many memories listing to that and I used to covered my eyes as kid on stations 😂
GODDAM HELLFIRE
And it’s now back at the NRM where it belongs. Apparently they kept on revving it and which caused the engine to burn out. It will never run again. It is now a static display.
Greta thumbrug this is life this is what we need
Luv those turbos
Valentas only had 1 big ass turbo...
I went on it when it was based in Ruddington just hearing her and travelling on her was an honour & still a stunning piece of machinery in my eyes. Still lovely to see her now and again at Locomotion.
scream my pretty
Absolutely superb
Awsome😊
A British masterpiece ✨️
You canonly imagine how hard these engines had to work every single day.......the forces at play and the heat cycles....mind bending tbh.
But sounds like a jet
As someone who has asthma, I much prefer the MTU engines. Honestly, I much prefer the MTU sound too. Most likely cause I was born post MTU installation, so I grew up around them. But the valenta's (and VP185), sound great too, I like the WHOOOSH when they pass at speed!
People shit on the MTUs, however keep in mind they're the reason why HSTs haven't been retired in the 2000s.
@@derektaylor2941 f*cking troll
Can I have one of these for my Mayland 14ft fishing boat please? The wee boat is a scaled down Vospa MTB that both these and the Deltic came in so I feel I'm owed one.. I will reinforce my transom next week and let me know when I can expect a shot thanks
Absolutely iconic machine the fact that 41001is running again is a tribute to the group and keeping the iconic prototype HST power car alive pity really that 41002 was cut up in the late 90s,/early 90s had both survived what amazing site it would have been with modified mk3 coaching stock
So many memories of these hauling me back and forth from Newcastle to London weekly. Gunning down the ECML watching fields flash by. I just wish I'd been sat next to the engine the whole journey!
What a magical sound.
A "Clagmire" at the start :-D
Thank god for rail workers union rules on a second man in the cab, or THIS is what the 125 would always have looked like.
Put her on a load bank and make the old girl scream much much longer 😆
Qantuz hp? ?
And what is unusual. She's got buffers
Listen to the turbo's......nice
what can you say WOW WOW WOW
The kenneth grange back story is pretty amazing when you think how iconic that final design became.....a brilliant story.
That’s one half of Les Alanos from Phoenix Nights.
Amazing, a piece of history! The unions said this prototype was unusable because the window was not wide enough for two people to reside in the cockpit! Hence the look of the one we know today. Such incredible engineering and like the article says we take it for granted today! It’s like all these things, they are not noticed until they are retired, look at Concorde.
How does the Diesel engine transfer power to the wheels?
An alternator connected to traction motors that drive the wheels.
It's like a road hybrid
Why did the drivers insist on 2 drivers?
To keep their jobs.
whilst audrey does have a point, there was also a safety point. One driving and looking ahead, and the other 2nd man at the time, looking further ahead. And 125mph it goes pretty fast. Unions at the time always felt it was far safer to have two people in charge. Whilst today they do run with one driver things have moved on. Back then though safety was one major consideration.

Fake news
How exactly ?
Tf are you on about?
Are you smoking crack or are you a toddler?
I always wanted to travel in the HST but sadly due to the pandemic I can’t. But luckily I appreciate these type of you tubers who show the videos of my favourite high speed train . THANK YOU
Completely bonkers. God I miss these Valentas.
Imagine standing between two 16V RP 200s at 1200 rpm. I so enjoyed working on these engines.
Fuck me! I’m surprised you didn’t go deaf!
Sounds beautiful. 😀
Dear 125group, a friend of mine and I had a discussion concerning the Paxman Valenta engine. Is the engine originally fitted with a supercharger or with a turbo-charger, concerning it's characteristic high pitched whine. It doesn't matter to me who's right, just what is true!
Turbocharger.
Question. Why is the front of this HST different from those typically seen run by LNER and such?
It's a prototype. they had to change it as aslef said that they wanted two drivers and this cab could only accommodate one
I'm gonna miss this Valenta sound forever
