Imagine trying to analyze a credibility of a person you've never met and only see through a digital screen in the reply section of a comment by their fucking anime opinions.
@@ameynanote Joey and Garnt were actually arguing over an influential show, Connor was mostly talking about popularity contests. I hate SAO, but you can’t deny it didn’t influence all the billions of other isekai.
@@TiagoRodrigues-oz4qs sure it was bad but back in the day it was literally the anime that everybody loved and is still one of the most popular anime to ever come out
@@desperant3956no I don’t think so, the isekai genre has exist way before SAO become a thing. SAO was modern enough to get people into recognizing Isekai is a thing.
I know it’s because of the studio, but I love the camera slides and zooms on everyone as they made their cases for the different anime during the earlier parts of the episode
I think the boys focused a lot on influence rather than a bucket type list of like 7 anime you need to see before you die. I would love to see that type of list.
@@thomasffrench3639 influential means the impact that it had on a genre, industry, or the culture like Joey argues astroboy should be on the list for being one of the first anime to establish the genre but in my opinion astroboy is not a must see show. Whereas I feel like if they steered towards the question being about being a must see anime, not pertaining to being an anime fan or not, I personally would have enjoyed that better. But their conversation was still valid. Personally I would have shows like chainsaw man or one piece on the list because they are shows you need to experience rather than shows that are more influential to a category.
@@Antwoox but these shows are influential and should be experienced. Chainsaw Man could, but I wouldn’t consider it a must watch. I would consider Gundam, Eva and Akira must watches tho.
@@dylives7667no one was outraged by the ad. someone made up that people were outraged by the ad, and people went with it. So people were getting mad and complaining about something that didn’t happen.
I think their definition of 7 wonders is off. To me they did more of a Mount Rushmore where these are pillars or influential anime that had impacts on the medium. 7 wonders should be more monolithic, stand alone to be how great/beautiful/awe inspiring would be. No one goes around saying how influential the coliseum, or great wall or chichen itza are rather than saying "wow these things are amazing". Akira would still fit, and honestly Death Note could have a strong argument.
I watched Death Note years after it aired, and yes is dated, and yes it has a rather simple story with a lot of cool narrative gadgets and really over the top characters, but I always thought that watching that series when it aired, on a weekly basis, it would have been amazing. Kinda like Breaking Bad, Lost or SNK. In that regards, and agreeing with you, I would have liked Slam Dunk to be on the list, but the anime didn't finish, and the manga is clearly better.
I had the same thought. It's weird to me that Legend of the Galactic Heroes didn't even get a mention. I suppose it wasn't influential, but it was super unique.
Yeah they should've focused on what can not be replicated again and what majority of anime can't offer anymore. Wonders should have rare feelings to it.
Code Geass or No Game No Life would be better in my opinion than Death Note. The whole premise of characters being insanely intelligent is done better in those two shows than Death Note imo.
100% agree on Gintama not being able to be something to recommend right off the bat. It's stayed my favorite for years but I can definitely understand.
True, gintama is perfect in every category from plot, characters and comedy, it's impossible to not have it as ur favourite. problem is its only great for anime fans since u simply won't get behind the jokes, plus it's only flaw being the first 2 eps are the only fillers in the show
i could see gintama definitely hard to get into for newcomers and I personally don’t want to say just skip episodes to the serious arcs. Admittedly first 50 episodes are quite tough to get into the show but once after that , it’s mostly likely a banger show
I appreciate Joey and Garnt for sticking up for Sailor Moon being on the list. Idk where Connor's brain was at on the meaning of the word "influential", but an anime that played such a large part in popularizing an entire ganre in the anime Industry, and not only that, popularizing a ganre that specifically catered to the female audience, something that I'm sure played a big part in a lot of women getting into anime, maybe even growing up to create their own shows and stories directly inspired by it. Especially in a time such as the 90s it was important for girls to be able to see themselves not only as the main characters in a story about fighting evil, but to also see these characters embracing their femininity and still being able to fight. You can't say that's not influential.
Also a very important for Latinamerican anime fans (alongside Dragon Ball, Pokémon, Saint Seiya, Digimon, Naruto and so many others) due to how iconic its dub was.
Conner is so right for the fact that if you look at this list with an outside point of view, it just looks like the most basic 'best anime ever' list some random news website made
he had the most boring takes though. this is a pretty bad episode in terms of the criteria being so inconsistent lol the conversation is kind of circling around the whole time
@@KingR098 tbf if me and my chaps suddenly had a "whats the mount rushmore of anime" discussion it would just turn out exactly like this. this isnt really like a political debate betweens candidates which needs to be studied yknow
And if you look at 10 different lists of the greatest wonders of the world, a lot of the answers are going to be “basic.” When you make a list of the influential animes of all time, most of them are going to be basic answers bc if it’s influential it probably means they’re popular.
Well, yeah, being famous and influential was an important criteria. Of course they would pick mainstream anime. That only says that the influence anime had over culture was mostly mainstream, which isn't a hot take given it made its splash in the era of globalization.
Joey is that guy that puts the english Pokemon opening in the number 1 spot in a top 100 anime openings video out of sheer principle, instead of personal taste.
that wouldn't happen, cuz Connor seems like the type that refuses to watch old media (anime or movies, heck he doesn't read books) so he won't want to do a 7 old wonder
@@grey_f98 Nah, he could do it very easily as shown in the video. In fact, it's what he hated the most: he wanted a broader spectrum of animes. If you ask Connor to list 7 very influential old animes, he could do it in 5 minutes and he even talked about many in the podcast right there.
Listening to this on Spotify and I've never been so pissed off walking through a forest with my dog before. If y'all hadn't already earned your name, this one podcast would single handedly do it.
yup, Shoujo is an important genre whether the boys personally watches it or not doesn't matter, Connor had huge male arrogance in this one, he probably hasn't watched any anime that appeals to women and girls other than black butler lol
As someone that has seen Haruhi I'd still think Death Note should be higher, not just from a popularity standpoint but in general how Haruhi has some points which can easily stray people away from anime. It's not only not a safe show to recommend to people that want to get into anime, it's a hard sell even for a huge portion of anime fans. It might have been somewhat influential for the anime industry itself but as they've established during this podcast it definitely wasn't the only one and the most important one. I'd probably put Astro Boy 10 times more than I'd put Haruhi, and although I wouldn't put Evangelion either I'd definitely put Eva before I ever put Haruhi in. As a teen that hasn't been ever introduced to anime I've known about Astro Boy as a character for a long time, but I had to get about a year or 2 into anime to even discover the existence of Haruhi because even critically, although it was praised a lot, it wasn't really this huge thing that everyone that got into anime could easily know of.
on top of that he was at first against having Evangelion or any Ghibli on it, and then went on to suggest Attack on Titan and Death Note, he's a little basic but doesn't realize it also (unlike Death Note) Citizen Kane is actually really REALLY good, Connor should watch it before clowning on critics for putting it on their list
Haruhi was the Evangelion for the 2000s. Extremely controversial and divisive but still a significant time period in anime history. The popularity it had back then is the same as Demon Slayer is now if not higher. A SOL anime achieving this feat is remarkable and should be celebrated as much as the others.
"Influential" and "need to be watched" are two totally separate things. Garnt was on the right track mentioning Eva: these were supposed to be selections in which the format makes the experience, therefore anime. The speech on moving forward on TTGL The most creative use of time travel on Stein's;Gate The dilemma in living that is in Death Parade The Dempsey roll on Hajime no Ippo The best ending to a protagonist in Code Geass Hell, the most iconic betrayal on Anime history on Berserk Most of my takes are from the Golden Age, and it's called like that for a reason. All my fellow anime eaters should know them. So many good things came at that time, and now that there is not so much shame in liking them, most people should experience it
Agree with you, add Ping Pong the animation for doing things out of passion. All those flash you more than lets say Attack on Titan that is a great story but not outstanding in any aspect.
As a Peruvian, the entirety of Peru is an awesome destination. Macchu Picchu is a classic, but Santiago (Chile) and Rio De Janeiro (Brazil) also fantastic cities. Also I volunteer to be a Peruvian Tour guide👍🏻
Just wondering. What are your opinion on other South American countries for tourism? I've heard Peru is the best (Macchu Picchu a must), and Iguazu Falls as wonders, Brazil being okay but didn't hear not so much about other countries except being somewhat dangerous... I'm planning to go there a few years later.
@@runhigh123 Honestly, even though I’ve lived in Peru most of my life I haven’t really explored the rest of South America as much as I’d want to. Though from what I’ve seen I’d say that Macchu Picchu is a must see. Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are all really pretty countries filled with culture (Uruguay as well but I haven’t been there yet). In general South America is more dangerous than most parts of the world because they are 3rd world countries. But they’re honestly not that bad if you’re just mildly cautious.
@@runhigh123 Being from Chile I can tell you that we have some good places to visit here, heck, eastern island is technically a part of Chile too. I'd recommend Torres del Paine, Chiloe island and San Pedro de Atacama for the desert experience
Wait wait... did you said Rio de Janeiro? Did you hate damm ? Guys ... no... Rio is for: I lived in a war city and know how to deal with it... and that is a maybe.
You can quite literally go anywhere (aside from Venezuela) in South America and have a great time. Just plan your trip well, check out everything you wish to do before setting up and you'll be good to go. Yes, Rio, Lima, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Quito... All of those have big no-no zones that you DON'T want to go at any time, however it's already pretty hard to just stumble onto them, so if you do your research will never even notice them.
Honestly I was surprised Initial D wasn't mentioned in the "Sports" (and i use Sports loosely lol) category. I feel like it has gotten an entire generation of auto/JDM enthusiasts into anime in the early 2000's. Not to mention that I feel like Eurobeat was skyrocketed into the anime limelight because of this series
@@phazttraxx1980Fast and furious would have definitely existed as that was based on the SoCal import tuner scene and featured/loosely based on actual active street racers like Greg Leone (irl version of Dominic Toretto who used a CRX and is used as an extra car in the movie + was the car used to record engine sounds for Brian’s Eclipse). Remember Mischief 2000 as well like with that whole thing too. Sure, Fast and Furious “Tokyo Drift” wouldn’t have existed without Initial D being a thing though but don’t think for a second that the first 2 fast and furious films exist because of Initial D lol
Initial d became its own genre in my eyes, there’s nothing made that gotten that popular and for being how niche it is if it’s just talked about as a anime. Its also a arcade cabinet series, yes it put a whole genre of music(eurobeat) out, there’s other manga out there that covers touge and street racing, I love and hate this series, for being made so popular in General car culture
Drifting isn't a sport to you? Okay. I suppose photography wouldn't be a skill or gargling the ABC's be national news worthy to you either... this is a joke by the way, I'm not really talking down to you do not believing Initial D is a sports anime. It's really more of a car anime, really. There are also people woh would argue that racing isn't a sport and that difting doesn't qualify as racing, thus can never be a sport. It's really just not that interesting of an anime regardless of the memes to be honest.
@@theguywhoasked-r7e well the obvious answer is my taste. if I knew of a better one I would have that one instead. Same goes for everyone else though, that's what makes it fun :)
Connor hating everything romance, shoujo, and moe in this episode is both funny and frustrating. Why can't he watch happy shows instead of shows that only have people killing and beating each other up? 😂
Connor: "No, Sailor Moon is too cliche" So Akira, Evangelion, and Dragon Ball are not? Glad at least Joey and Garnt made some attempts to include non-shonen options
@@Izana000 This one they're doing in the UK is from The Sidemen. That's the 1st thing they mentioned as soon as they started the episode, that being 2 episodes prior to this.
Cowboy Bebop was my gateway show into anime. As it was for a lot of people. Also, the music in this anime is the best of any show ever! I immediately went out and bought the soundtrack album after watching and it is still one of my favorite albums. Yoko Kanno is a genius composer and I also love her work with The Seatbelts.
Fair, it was basically on all the time during that night time anime slot, and western enough for normies to also watch. It's not my favorite by any means, but definitely beats deathnote for 'introduction' anime by a long margin. I only got 3 eps into death note before dropping it. (though I did get a bit further in the manga), but Cowboy Bebop I downloaded the movie, subbed, even though the version of the anime I had seen up to that point was English dubbed and I got whiplash from the difference.
I think the guys have to remember they have actual money so they’d mostly only experience the nicer areas from Mexico, Brasil and Colombia. There’d be noticeable differences but definitely leaning too hard on people saying don’t go and ignoring the millions of tourists that visit them.
I am shocked Hunter x Hunter wasn’t even mentioned. It is the perfect mix between influence, popularity, and quality to be one of the 7 wonders. In terms of influence, it has clearly inspired modern Shonen, which are now the most popular anime on the planet, narratively a ton. The subversion of genre norms and the world building of a lot of the biggest modern anime’s owe a lot to HxH, and these things are usually pretty important parts of their stories. It’s also way more popular than people realize. It’s not unlikely for me to go out and randomly see someone with a Spider Troupe hoodie on. It makes sense because it’s a show that pretty much anybody who gets into a Shonen will watch and it’s a lot easier for an older audience to get into than other older Shonen. In terms of quality, I don’t even have to tell you, it’s one of the goats. HxH got severely overlooked.
It’s so interesting hearing them talking about how scary it is to go South America for them. To me aside from a few countries in the east of Asia. As a Colombian myself I thought it was scary to go to Asia in general. Always wanted to go but I also hear so many bad things. Maybe we are just scared of the unknown?
where was that fear from? Asia is a vast place, East Asia is known for having like most of the safest countries in the world whereas it's a bit of the opposite in South America
the problem is that you probably get your perception of the world from Western media and Western media is the biggest propaganda machine in mankind's history, it's propaganda is so good that no one notices that it's blatant propaganda
Definitely a big factor is the unknown. At the end of the day there's going to be danger wherever you go but there's also going to be some nice people wherever you go. All you can really do is do your research, be prepared and let your own experiences dictate how you see things. I think it's good to take other's advice but a little restrictive to let other people's experiences determine how you see things. There needs to be a balance!
One word: guns. Turns out when your big neighbor up north has more guns than population, they leak guns to all of America. You aren’t gonna be held at gunpoint or be worried about being kidnapped by a cartel in most Asian countries.
imo South East Asia is pretty much the same as South America in socio economic terms for tourism, I would even say that SA is better for tourism than SEA. I would recommend to stay away from the Great Columbia's nations (Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, etc) other than that, Peru, Chile, Argentina, half of Mexico and Half of Brazil are really safe and good places to tour which will give you amazing sights.
I took these questions to my wife who had no clue what this episode was about to discuss and surprisingly her list was 90% accurate to what Garnt and Joey were arguing and even mentioned Death Note like Connor. We grew up in an era where a lot of these great shows were blossoming and only now we can see what they've become and how successful they are. Definitely different from Western popularity to Japanese for example Haruhi. I can say I didnt watch it, but know how popular and influential it became especially in terms of story and character design. No real perfect answers, but everything they listed could be argued. But Connor c'mon man Jojo is great but its not a wonder of anime despite the memes like damn the show needed a full reboot and memes to make a comeback cause its weird af and only those who overcome that can enjoy it.
Connor literally was the one who said it's not just about the popularity but as soon as Deathnote is removed. All he talks about is the popularity 😂 I can't with him sometimes. I agree with Conor a lot, but he also loves to troll like this god dammit ❤
Guys as a Colombian, there are SOOO many places that are both safe and worth it to visit, mainstream and not, don't let rumors and stories scare you. Obviously be careful and don't be stupid, but south america as a whole has some of the most amazing features on earth, is crazy cheap compared to what you are used to, and people would be most welcoming. Think about it as the south east asian countries you have visited but just in America. You'll have a great time.
This episode went from Anime everyone needs to watch to here is historically important anime. Unsure if most of their picks I would watch today but still a cool convo.
7 wonders means “influential and good watch”. Therefore, 7 wonders of anime: Akira Astro Boy 1963 Dragon Ball Sailor Moon Neon Genesis Evangelion Spirited Away Death Note Contenders: Cowboy Bebop Full Metal Alchemist High School of the Dead Avatar The Last Airbender (if including “anime inspired”)
I'm surprised they didn't mention Urusei Yatsura when considering romcoms, great series and massively influential with Lum being one of the first proper WAIFU waifus.
FMA is my favorite easily it was my first and I feel like almost no story hits you emotionally as quickly as it did and its pacing is phenomenal only matched by maybe AOT. All the characters are memorable all the motivations make sense and the themes remain relevant. Re watched it the other day for like the 8th time I do think that it is a much watch and I have never met anyone who said its bad the worst I heard is its alright lol. There is a reason it is consistently number 1 and I feel like its not just to have a number 1.
The fact steins gate wasnt mentioned once is a crime. Lol Also Madoka and Intial D. Intial D revolutionized CG and sound design and its music and visuals are still referenced today
As much as I adore Steins; Gate, I don't think it qualifies to be called influential. It is amazing and most people that watched it through will agree with that to varying degree. Also it's a bit too niche in a similar vain as Gintama. You need to be a bit more used to otaku culture to appreciate a lot of the banter. Otherwise the early half is going to intrigue you at best and turn you off at best. It is simply outshone by flashier and bigger anime franchises. But yes, they could at least have mentioned S;G. But that might just argue to my last point. xD
I agree, not my favorite, but the remake that came out of nowhere years later and got a full adaptation, which is rare for shojo romance, made history for the genre and has lit a spark of hope for shojo romance fans.
As an Indian American, the fact that Garnt starts "getting ready" at the time when he's expected to meet up is the most Indian thing I've ever heard and I have to deal with this constantly with my friends who do the same thing lmao
I was in an ethnic internship and a friend called it 'colored people time' lmao. It's even more prevalent in Miami/South Florida. You have to plan for every event to start 30 minutes late, by padding the initial time with casual talk. It's actually kinda nice with everyone having low expectations. My parents were always late to everything too, but yeah ultimately I think it's an ADHD thing
As someone who didnt grow up watching sailor moon I would def put Sailor moon on the list. It's crazy how big its reach is. Almost all of the people I know who draw say they were inspired to do so because of sailor moon. I bet there's more sailor moon fans working at disney then any of the other anime listed. Also personally I would put Mob Psycho 100 in my 7 wonders of Anime. Its just way too good.
True, buts also 7 wonders of anime: Akira Astro Boy 1963 Dragon Ball Sailor Moon Neon Genesis Evangelion Spirited Away Death Note Contenders: Cowboy Bebop Full Metal Alchemist High School of the Dead Avatar The Last Airbender (if including “anime inspired”)
I'm still watching but I am so happy that Haruhi was discussed, thank you guys! This has literally been my favorite Anime since it has aired for the first time and I am happy that it and it's influence on the industry is not forgotten :)
I’d say you are missing the first two phases (maybe 3) 1: Dragon Ball 2: Big 3 (OP, Naruto, Bleach) 3: Death Note and HxH (2011) 4: AoT 5: One Punch, My Hero … that flow of series is what peaked its global popularity. And now the new line up of series like JJK, Demon Slayer, BC, Chainsaw, etc are all capitalizing on the aftermath of the series of booms that happened prior
he's the adhd friend doing his best to contribute: he has a similar problem when formulating a question sometimes and ends up asking things that have already been answered but the way he gets to the question is so roundabout and filled with fluff that they let him continue till it gets kinda awkward (the most recent eyepatchwolf ep was filled with it and kinda doured the vibes for bits). I love Garnt but its REALLY bad some eps
So for those who don't want to watch the whole thing, they put: Akira - Evangelion - Sailor Moon - Dragon Ball - Gundam - Attack on Titan - Haruhi Suzumiya (it was originally Death Note but they removed it despite Conner disagreeing)
Connors? It honestly felt like garnt was more against it here. But ya, idk how he said it wasn’t trending when ultra instinct became a meme, broke the streaming site, and collectively decreased cartel activity in Mexico for a day
The issue with a lot of central and southern American countries, is they are two VERY distinct sides. Their is the tourist side, which are nice, safe, and very distinctly SEPARATE from the actual goings on of the country, and then there is the REAL day to day life. It's not that you instantly get stabbed or shot or something if you wander into the more "real" parts of the country, it's that if you haven't grown up in these places, its VERY obvious you're a tourist, and it makes you susceptible to the things that natives of a country know to avoid or such. They are wonderful places to visit, but unless you have a directive native helping you out, it's best to ensure you keep to safer, tourist, areas.
Joey as someone who like hiking I and wants to visit South America, the Patagonia region is vast and beautiful. I’ve been to Machu Pichu and It definitely deserve to be one anyone’s bucket list it was an amazing trip. Im an American, a Latin American but still American and all my trips to Mexico and El Salvador and Peru I don’t think it’ll be any different than visiting any other country. Same way most people stay away from skid row visiting LA just do some research and don’t put yourself in a bad situation.
Joey mentioned "not so popular" places to visit. You guys should visit Romania sometime. The food is goated, nature is gorgeous, lots of medieval castles, churches/monasteries and fortresses, the Danube Delta etc. Definitely visit at least once! (Romania isn't exactly unpopular but for them it might be something more "foreign").
I like how it's a discussion about most influential and all the choices are just the most accessible, popular and commercially successful anime that came out to capitalise on already emerging genres.
The problem with using most influential as the criteria is that by definition, most of the things that are most influential are from farther back in the past. Recent anime, even if they are better, are released in a time when anime has developed more, so it is difficult for them to have as big of an influence as an anime that came out when the industry was still finding its standing. The first person to mold clay into a pot shape is the most influential pot maker of all time, closely followed by the guy who put a handle on it, but that doesn't mean they were the best pot makers of all time. There was just so many things that hadn't been discovered yet that any new innovation hugely influenced everything to come in the future.
Influence is more complicated than that. If the second guy who made the pot inspired the entire industry of pot making that the second guy would be way more influential than the first guy. It’s more about reach and that is what is more influential.
@@thomasffrench3639 that's why I said most. Yes, there are those one in a billion pot makers who can influence the world even after it's developed, like the one who decided to make it out of metal, but the ones who are farther back in the past have an inherent advantage. They would never have considered something like Haruhi or Gundam if it came out last year.
@@thomasffrench3639 that doesn't refute my argument at all. The second guy still has an inherent advantage over the 163637th guy. The advantage is there because the field hasn't developed/matured. It's not like a straight linear thing where 4th guy to do it is more influential than 5th.
Connor wanted to make a IGN shonen list. Can testify that Code Geass still holds up due to the great ending since a friend of mine who had never seen it watched it this spring for the first time and he loved it.
Garnt and Joey just named old animes and called it a day lol. Nothing about this list screams "7 anime every fan needs to watch". You dont need to watch Haruhi now there is so much shit better than that lol.
@@armaanb.6566 The problem is more that it was way too vague what the criteria for the list was. It bounced back and forth between the most influential, popular or most searched instead of the anime's on their own merit. I would say neither one of them is a "must watch anime for every anime fan", but for a big fan of the idol type anime Haruhi might be a must watch to see where shows like Bochi came from.
7 wonders means “influential and good watch” Therefore, 7 wonders of anime: Akira Astro Boy 1963 Dragon Ball Sailor Moon Neon Genesis Evangelion Spirited Away Death Note Contenders: Cowboy Bebop Full Metal Alchemist High School of the Dead Avatar The Last Airbender (if including “anime inspired”)
@@warhammerguy Nah, Connor was pretty clear with the categories at the beginning. The issue is the other two, especially Joey, have a severe old anime bias. Instead of finding 7 anime wonders, they just name the 7 old animes that obviously inspired everything that came after it whereras Connor was trying to go past that. As the other guy said, no one should recommend people to watch Haruhi nowadays which was also somewhat highlighted when Connor ranked Death Note above it.
As many other south americans have said in the comments, south america is great to visit and explore, there are so many things to see and experience, but will agree that is not safe if you dont know how to transverse through the citys. The best way is to have someone from the country to show you around at least for your first visit so that you know the ropes on what ti avoid. Knowing the language would help massively, I am from Ecuador and even though English is supposed to be taught trough lots of schools, it is not something really people know. If you know Spanish you will be fine, of course you have to know that spanish is not the same across the continent, one word can mean something completely different on another country all though most of us would understand what you tried to say, but still better to avoid some words. Also, being “third world” countries doesnt mean we dont have amazing places to eat or to stay, more than anything it means the economic state of the country and the willingness of international companies to also make their business within the country. And for tourists you can find so many great places to stay. Of course I would recommend Ecuador, we have 4 different regions within the single country, we have the coastal region with great beaches, the mountain region with one of the talles mountains/volcanoes (chimborazo) in the world, we have the rain forest region which is also part of the amazonas and finally we have the galapagos islands which you guys have previously discussed the now extinct galapagos tortoises that used to live there, these islands are incredibly beautiful and I cannot recommend them enough. As well Ecuador’s food has so many ranges due to the four regions that are simply amazing. But besides my own country South America is a place you definitely should visit, you only need to do your research on security measurements and if possible get someone local to show you around, but it is really an amazing continent to visit
@@FPSadict1612038 it's underrated mainstream-wise, but for people who are at least knee deep in anime i think the majority of them thinks highly of Nichijou

Regarding the whole «Garnt is always late» thing: Garnt has confirmed and come out as being diagnosed with ADHD on a previous podcast. One extremely common symptom or behavioural trait in people with ADHD is something called ‘time blindness’. People with time blindness may have difficulties with tasks related to time, such as estimating how long an activity will take, sticking to schedules, and recognizing when it’s appropriate to start or finish tasks. In short, Garnt isn’t late out of malicious intent or laziness, he’s just built different. So give him some slack guys, he’s trying his best. ❤️
other than that, it's also the common SEA mentality. For me who's born and brought up in India, if there's a meet at 8:30, it means you start leaving at 8:30 lmao. We're NOTORIOUS for being and starting everything late lmao
@@JarlBalgruff_ Then when someone tells you "i'm on my way", that means they're still half asleep processing life. If it's a simple meetup I don't mind but people being late for important thing is a slight pet peeve.
I was thinking exactly this when Connor started calling him out. That's ADHD as fuck and I have never related more. The fights weren't as hype as season 2 and nobody talked about it. The characters just couldn't carry the season. Surprisingly I think Gojo and Geto are the most interesting characters that JJK has and they have the most potential, and there 5 episode arc at the beginning of season 2 actually tricked into thinking that I liked the series, but the author fumbled both their stories so hard I have no interests in continuing the series. What I loved the most about the episodes on the Sidemen set is that they can have this screen to look at, it's funnier somehow when the boys get to look at stuff to proof something or talk about something.
It is unfortunate that we lost the highschool of the dead's author too soon. I didn't look at the anime on an ecchi standpoint but it certainly had a promising story.

The problem is most of the anime directly influenced by Astro Boy would also be very old. Haruhi was insane in how influential it was: it made the idea of adapting light novels far more enticing to studios and such as LN anime adaptation were nowhere near as common pre-Haruhi, which of course would pave the way for a certain isekai light novel to be adapted and send that genre into overdrive. As a bonus, Haruhi also influenced the many “club doing various activities” genre as well. Honestly, if we’re talking the entire catalog of anime since the 2000’s, Haruhi impacted the direction of the medium even more than the Big Three.

I don't see how a "Seven Wonders of Anime" list turned into a "Most Influential Anime" list. When I think of the seven wonders, I think of old, technically impressive, with a wow factor that still holds up today. Akira, Eva, and GitS are some of my picks.
@@Archaoen0Not Bleach. Astro Boy, Ashita no Joe, Gundam, The Rose of Versailles, Akira/Ghost in the Shell, Devilman, Dragonball, Slam Dunk ect. I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting but Bleach is a level lower in influence from these ones
@@Archaoen0 At the same time JoJo is a good pick. Every writer loves JoJo and gets inspired by it, that's why they put references in their work. Naruto is also one of the most influential and popular anime even in the west. Also solds lots of merch, a lot of games and such.
@@Archaoen0 Bleach is extremely unlikely to be on a list like that. @@Ash_Wen-li ye but that depends on what influence were talking about here , most modern day mangka would say bleach not just influenced them alot but changed shounen jump to how it is today. so now its kind of like what kind of influence are we talking here to the people or to creators. because until bleach SJ was kind of just telling everyone to be the next dragon ball just do what they did, which is obviously a suffocating enviroment so people like araki just left sj. but because kubo was rebellious young man and decided to ignore them sj realised oh shit maybe we dont have to make everyone write the next dragon ball.
Death Note getting kicked off the list for Haruhi is such an in character move. The actually Haruhi would have absolutely pulled that against all advise to the contrary. It is so fitting for her to get on the list that way.
I actually kind of agree with SAO being on there. Not because I think it's good. But because it's the anime community's punching bag so i think its important.
The 7 wonders of anime should have been genre based because of how weird anime genres are. Magical girl, Isekai, Idol and Mecha anime made such a massive impact to the anime community that you can just say that genre and instantly think of that one anime that is popularized the genre. It goes, Magical Girl: Sailor Moon or Madoka Isekai: SAO or Konosuba Idol: Love Live or Idolmaster Mecha: Gundam or Eva Think of non-anime genres, like if I say, Robot: Transformers or Terminator Cartoon: Spongebob or Tom and Jerry Space: Star Wars or Star Trek And even just things in general, Superhero: Superman or Spider-Man K-Pop: BTS or Black Pink Phones: Apple or Samsung I hate some of the things that are on this list like SAO and Samsung but influential is the keyword here. Without these things gaining insane popularity, all of the pop culture references wouldn't exist or the genre wouldn't expand past their niche audiences
honestly disappointed Ghost in the Shell wasn't even seriously considered. One of the OG series/movies that had deep philosophical and political topics which not only hold up but predicted much of modern internet phenomena. It inspired the Matrix, one of the most popular and most discussed movie franchises in the west for over a decade!
Tbh I would recommend people to watch the New Adaptation instead, yes it lets detailed, but those details in the old OVA are "filler" compared to the original book. And if you take off your pink colored nostalgia glasses the new one both looks and sounds better. Old OVA has better design though (ships and characters)
Joey being an Astro Boy lover is not what I expected. Underrated love for Ozuka works right there! The grandfather of manga/anime. Also about anime movies, Satoshi Kon deserves praise. Not just Ghibli! His movies influenced multiple works out in the west (and were also openly plagiarized, sadly.)
Wow I've been following this channel for a year after just getting into anime and this is the first time I've seen them actually have a meaningful discussion about shows. Would love to see more of this on occasion! Maybe debating top 10 anime of the year

I think the boys underestimated how influential Haikyuu was to get people to play volleyball. From personal experience probably like 70-80% of the people that signed up to play volleyball when I went to university was from Haikyuu.

As a teen that hasn't been ever introduced to anime I've known about Astro Boy as a character for a long time, but I had to get about a year or 2 into anime to even discover the existence of Haruhi because even critically, although it was praised a lot, it wasn't really this huge thing that everyone that got into anime could easily know of.
on top of that he was at first against having Evangelion or any Ghibli on it, and then went on to suggest Attack on Titan and Death Note, he's a little basic but doesn't realize it
also (unlike Death Note) Citizen Kane is actually really REALLY good, Connor should watch it before clowning on critics for putting it on their list
Haruhi was the Evangelion for the 2000s. Extremely controversial and divisive but still a significant time period in anime history.
The popularity it had back then is the same as Demon Slayer is now if not higher. A SOL anime achieving this feat is remarkable and should be celebrated as much as the others.

Agree totally, nostalgia in an anime

They should have done one for each major catagory of anime. Movie, action, romance, drama, slice of life, comedy, horror.
Spirited away, One Piece, Oregairu Snafu (maybe Nisekoi), LoGH, K-on!, Nichijou, Parasyte
That's all I could think about when I was listening to this
Horror is weak, it would be monster and that's it
Drama is also mid

Guys as a Colombian, there are SOOO many places that are both safe and worth it to visit, mainstream and not, don't let rumors and stories scare you. Obviously be careful and don't be stupid, but south america as a whole has some of the most amazing features on earth, is crazy cheap compared to what you are used to, and people would be most welcoming. Also Madoka and Intial D.

Death Note into AoT into One Punch Man progression was what made anime basically mainstream

1: Dragon Ball
2: Big 3 (OP, Naruto, Bleach)
3: Death Note and HxH (2011)
4: AoT
5: One Punch, My Hero

Also I feel like there should have been two lists, one for anime that revolutionised things and one thats a peak example of its subject
@@sanhakim1335 actually most of the time the guy who does it second becomes way more influential
@@thomasffrench3639 that doesn't refute my argument at all. The second guy still has an inherent advantage over the 163637th guy. The advantage is there because the field hasn't developed/matured. It's not like a straight linear thing where 4th guy to do it is more influential than 5th.

Regarding the whole «Garnt is always late» thing:
Garnt has confirmed and come out as being diagnosed with ADHD on a previous podcast.

Not really, if you had a brain you would know he’s talking about Astro boy being on every list already. 🤡
It also started the isekai boom which we are still seeing over 10 years later
The 7 wonders of anime should have been genre based because of how weird anime genres are. Magical girl, Isekai, Idol and Mecha anime made such a massive impact to the anime community that you can just say that genre and instantly think of that one anime that is popularized the genre.
It goes,
Magical Girl: Sailor Moon or Madoka
Isekai: SAO or Konosuba
Idol: Love Live or Idolmaster
Mecha: Gundam or Eva
Think of non-anime genres, like if I say,
Robot: Transformers or Terminator
Cartoon: Spongebob or Tom and Jerry
Space: Star Wars or Star Trek
And even just things in general,
Superhero: Superman or Spider-Man
K-Pop: BTS or Black Pink
Phones: Apple or Samsung
I hate some of the things that are on this list like SAO and Samsung but influential is the keyword here.
25:33 yes, what Joey said... Connor not recognising SM's influence was a little too much Dx
Ironmouse is gonna have words with him.
Ah yes, time to watch 1000 episodes of one piece.
Jokes aside, Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) is a must watch!
Rewatch* 😂
Shoutout to the 5 people that have actually watched it
@@froufroudeluxe I’m watching it right now. On episode 20 or something. Haven’t seen an episode in a while tho.
Tbh I would recommend people to watch the New Adaptation instead, yes it lets detailed, but those details in the old OVA are "filler" compared to the original book. And if you take off your pink colored nostalgia glasses the new one both looks and sounds better. Old OVA has better design though (ships and characters)
Most based take ever.
Sailor moon should be on the list, it was made in 1992 and still popular all over the WORLD to this day. Not many animes can say the same
Joey being an Astro Boy lover is not what I expected. Underrated love for Ozuka works right there! The grandfather of manga/anime.
Also about anime movies, Satoshi Kon deserves praise. Not just Ghibli! His movies influenced multiple works out in the west (and were also openly plagiarized, sadly.)
He's read and watched Black Jack, ofc he's a fan of Astro Boy too. He loves Tezuka
Wow I've been following this channel for a year after just getting into anime and this is the first time I've seen them actually have a meaningful discussion about shows. Would love to see more of this on occasion! Maybe debating top 10 anime of the year
I suggest looking up old joey's videos and it will be a treat if you are looking for anime/manga content. His let's fight series one of my favourite type of videos from him.
Seriously thanks to Garnt and Joey for sticking up for Sailor Moon on that list. It was so important to a lot of us that got into anime as young girls in the 90's. There weren't many main stream shows then that really catered to us.
Can’t believe the boys forgot to even mention Ghost Stories - English Dub. That was goated especially for the VA community. 😂
I think the boys underestimated how influential Haikyuu was to get people to play volleyball. From personal experience probably like 70-80% of the people that signed up to play volleyball when I went to university was from Haikyuu. I am not counting my friends who I got into Haikyuu and then into volleyball.
I wouldn't say so
Haikyuu is definitely popular but in terms of influential no
The most influential sports anime
Were
1) captain tsubasa
2)Ashita no joe
3)slam dunk
Since these 3 were revolutionary
Espically top 2 though
Out of those three I think you can only make an argument for Slam Dunk, maybe.
In terms of the influence of making people go out and play the sport Haikyuu is out there. I'm pretty sure it has been more influential, it got released later with better animation and exposed to more people.
@@adityannair8951 from influence none of those make a person go outside and play sports like Haikyuu did especialy outside of Japan
@@jokerryt2503 nahh haikyuu wasn't that impactful ok
If u want to see the influential one who did outside in Japan in a huge way it was captain tsubasa and ashita no joe
There are many pro sports athletes in 80s
That were generally got inspired by tsubasa and
Ashita no joe is a same example too in 70s and 80 end
The soldier u to march by signing the slogan of we are tommorow joe
Haikyuu doesn't even touch 1 percentage of their prime popularity
U may have played volleyball because of haikyuu and ur friends might but these 2 were inspiration for generation
In comparison to captain tsubasa
I can say haikyuu writing is better than tsubasa but in terms of popularity and the cultural impact
hell no
And Ashita no joe shouldn't even be compared
Since it is the king of the sports anime and manga
Haikyuu whole existence is nothing compared to joe yabuki whistle
And yabuki is the best mc of sports manga and manga
In is definitely one of the top 3 best anime and manga mc of all time
@@Dymm2454 hell nah if u think if u think those 2 can be compared to captain tsubasa and Ashita no joe
Sure in writing captain tsubasa is weaker compared to slam dunk and haikyuu
But tsubasa inspired real life professional player to play soccer
And not as some timepass for fun
And ashita no joe is just on a god level in terms of writing and popularity
It was a national anthem for soldiers
When they were singing we are Ashita no joe
In war era
Do some research
Prime popularity of these 2 especially Ashita no joe will destroy haikyuu
I think slam dunk might give a run
Since it is a enormous success in Japan
This episode is basically Connor taking L's.
So pretty good.
True but the haruhi take was pretty bad
the show is called trash taste for a reason
I'm Brazilian and would say, if you wanna visit South America, the best way is to avoid the touristy places and explore the smaller cities. For example, I recently went to a small city called Tiradentes here in the state of Minas Gerais and loved it, very chill place with great local food. The only downside for foreigners, I would say, is the language barrier. Not many people speak anything besides portuguese, but if you happen to know someone here who can interpret for you, then absolutely come, you will probably enjoy it very much.
Let’s be fair South America is awesome away from big cities . Save and people are friendly.
