Fuji is a hype cult. The tool these days is irrelevant in practical use, they are all good and none of them will make you a good artist or take interesting images for you.
I've had a Fuji XT3 and I'm not a Sony fan but the 6700 did look better and if I had to choose only between those to purchase I would have picked the Sony
I shoot Sony and I tried a few Fuji cameras. Very fun to use but can anyone really complain about the cameras coming out today? They are just all so good
Sony also record 4K 120fps, but the biggest different is E-mount. If You didn't have any camera (and lenses) before just buy Sony. The amount of lenses is just unbeatable. I have been shooting with Sony APSC for several years, and sometimes with Nikon FF. I bought a Fujifilm XT30ii as a personal camera to carry every day. The camera looks nice, and the kit lens 15-45 is pretty good for what it is and its cost. But I ended up returning the Fujifilm. The exposure tended to be inconsistent, with auto ISO it tended to pick higher ISO than necessary. I compared to the Sony A6100 and A6600. The Sony definitely was less noisy and sharper. The Fuji, with the "classic chrome" film simulation produced very pleasing JPGs, but shooting RAW, Adobe Lightroom with the Adobe Standard profile applied on import minimized the differences. The EVF of the Sony cameras was definitely better than the Fuji's, so was the tracking autofocus. With the XT30ii it is too easy to accidentally move the focus point. in AF-C I sometimes saw some slight hunting/hesitation, and sometimes even photos of buildings were slightly out of focus. I wanted to love the Fuji, have a different platform, but in the end, I returned it and bought a A6700, which even if expensive, it seems on another level. I know other pro photographers who shoot and love Fujifilm, but I could not embrace it. The menu system of the Fuji is too nested and long. Sony has improved its menu. I find Nikon in some ways more pleasing to use, it has a great menu system and ergonomics. The colors and skin tones are pleasing and seem to require less tweaking in Lightroom. But the Sony's autofocus, small size, speed, reliability (except when transfering files via the phone app), make it a workhorse in chaotic situations.
Agreed, it doesn't make much sense to compare sensors using different lenses. Sensors contribute very little to the overall image sharpness compared to lenses
It looks like the fuji lens they used is the red badge 16-55mm, which seems like a very appropriate comparison to use against the sony 16-55mm G lens on the a6700.
@@TheSlantedLens yeah, but that sharpness test has nothing to do with the camera itself. I don't know what lenses were used, but the Sony lens just is significantly sharper, obviously.
@@richrollin4867 watch the video again. Yes, there were comparisons at base ISO and high ISO. For the base ISO, less sharp images are either resutls of the lens (optical) or supoptimal demosaicing process by the software. Remember that x-s20 uses x-trans sensor which is different from the bayer type sensor on the Sony. It is widely known that Adobe LR doesn't process images from x-trans sensor as well as the bayer ones.
I compared both of these, the Sony has better AF i think but in every other way I preferred the S20. The S20 AF is good enough for me even if not as good as the Sony so I landed on the Fujifilm. Either way, both are great cameras at a reasonable price.
Great review! Just buy the camera you like and do the most important thing-don't focus on equipment, but instead focus on improving your skills and the PURPOSE of your videos/photos. Please tell us a riveting story with your photos-get out there, take risks, and your photos will be COMPELLING. The vlogger could not strongly find a CLEAR winner in any category. The cameras are essentially tied with each other. So, that said, I love the sony cameras 6000 series, because they are so tiny and because I specifically look for lenses that are also small (I travel a great deal and size matters). That's been it for me, simply that by size and lens selection options Sony is what I prefer. But, no question, if someone likes and wants Fuji--the quality of the photos and videos will be EXACTLY the same.
Good comparison. But I would say : Ibis is usable on Sony , esp with active mode for walking/talking. And on Fuji - not! And af in video … Sony is way better here cuz Fuji has no af-c tracking , no touch tracking. Menu on Fuji is so complicated for first few days , but after that you get used to it. Fuji is more has customisation, Lcd and Evf are better . Even better than on my Sony a7-4. Battery on Fuji is so good. Fuji as a Sony overheats fast in 4k50 , in 6k Fuji can record more than 45mins I do have both cameras, I and would say of you want stability and confidence / reability so go with Sony. Colors , usability , more fun so choose Fuji.
I don`t own any of these cameras but understanding from your review i would choose the Fuji for it`s more traditional style body which i believe will be more enjoyable to use and i think might also better balance with larger lenses. In the end what good is a camera if you dont like to use or is uncomfortable to you to use
Much to my surprise I tended (slightly) to prefer the look of the Sony in most cases (not at high ISO) even though people shots (where I think Fuji is often better). Agreed with your conclusion - either a good choice. Both rate high with the exception of their IBIS (but with the Sony you could use catalyst browse in your workflow to improve). I have neither and it would be a difficult choice…I think the Sony has a wider selection of lenses, but perhaps close? Great video!
For future reviews please use a lens available on both system when possible, such as the Sigma or Tamron APSC lenses. The sharpness and AF tests in this video are essentially pointless when using different lenses..
You haven't done an overheat test on these cameras. It would be very interesting to see how these cameras behave under the same ambient temperature conditions.
Hmm looks like it's really down to user preference or convenience. I'd go for the Fuji because I've already got fugi lens right now. I'm fond of both brands of cameras though.
Would you recommend the A6700 to a professional stills shooter? I do full time headshots and portraits and I want something light and fast, currently shooting FUJI XT5 but thinking of jumping. What lenses would you recommend to rival a 50mm and 85mm equivalent? And a 35? I’m seriously thinking of switching from Fuji to Sony (XT5 to A6700). I use the Fuji 56, 33 and 23 (85, 50 and 35 equivalents). What 3 Sony lenses would give me those focal lengths? Am I crazy to think the Sony A6700 could rival the XT5 or would you say it might?

Fuji X-S20 has 6k open gate, which he also left out. IMO more people would find 6k open gate more useful than 4k 120 in most situations, especially now a lot of shared videos have higher vertical ratio.

I have seen in the past that fuji iso value is different as compared to canon, sony, etc. So a comparison of the same iso could be unfair if it is the case here also. But we can see near the eye that the sony image is always more sharper. At iso 1600 looking at the coat, fuji is way more darker for the same iso, probably showing iso would need to be set to 3200 iso i guess to see similar shadow detail in the coat. So imo the sony 1600 iso version is much better image if fuji image would be set to see similar shadows in coat
1.700,€ versus 1.350,€ being the Sony one significantly more expensive in Europe (Spain) as of now -with the hundred-bucks-standard-lens, which is totally equivalent. I don't think the much superior AF and meh IBIS can justify this gap, and for the lens range options, it is totally equivalent again. The Fugi is, on the other side, quite superior in video formats, especially the 6k open gate thing. Equal price no strings attached (no lenses owning) I may lean into the sony sterile world but on this price difference, no way José! It could be said the sony world has the tech while the Fuji's got the soul.
Well presented. I have the S20 and am happy with it. The Sony looks like a nice camera as well. I agree with your assessment, dance with the one who brung ya.
How does the autofocus fair after the firmware updates for the Fujifilm xs20? Has it become better or is it less worse after like what happened to xh2s according to many youtubers who tried using multiple tests for autofocus tracking?
excellent video, thanks! But why on earth you would flip sides of showing cameras when talking about them vs real shoot showcasing? Always makes me double check what camera am I looking at
I’m switching from a6400 because I’m not happy with jpg colors. Got sx20 $1199 and XT5 $1799 with kit lenses. Xt5. Sx20 actually feels better than XT5 with similar image quality, but XT5 kit lens is definitely way nicer. EVF on SX20 is so bad, it made me thing my vision was bad because it’s so blurry
One thing you didn’t mention is that Fuji lens are better quality for the price compared to Sonys. So the Fuji is actually a much cheaper camera to own.
Technically, you could just upload LUTs into the Sony and get very similar looks to the famous Fuji film simulations? Would I be correct in assuming that?
I use The Nikon D7200 for travel. I use the GEOTAG app to add location info. Is the Fuji App working fine when adding the Geolocation? Is it shorten the battery life? Thanks.
It works OK. Sometimes takes a few seconds for the app to find the camera via Bluetooth. Haven't noticed any battery impact. However I only run the app occasionally on my phone, I don't leave it running all the time.
Autofocus definitely is the key with FujiFilm situation right now is no no. Sony is the one to go for.... I am a Fuji fanboy always love film stimulation system. But those pictures out of focus. No use anyway.
Maybe I missed it but didn't see User Menu comparison.....few days ago I went in the store to check out Sony a6700 and I must say the Menu seems like a nightmare. As a long time Canon user and Fujifilm X T30 owner just didn't find it very user friendly.....oh well maybe it just me.
I don't believe this is a fair comparison in terms of sharpness. You should standardize the variables by using lenses with the same optical quality, such as Sigma lenses with different mounts. Comparing sharpness with different lenses does not necessarily reflect the body's sharpness performance.
Fuji definitely cannot record 6k 60fps. You can shoot open gate 6.2k at 30fps. If you shoot 60 fps then the max available resolution is 4k and you have a 1.18 crop. Sony does not have a crop at all when shooting 4k60, also gives you 4K 120fps with 1.58 crop (1 to 1 readout) but it is missing open gate 6.2k recording. I think this should all be included in the video to give the full and correct indormation.
Fuji X-S20 has 6k open gate, which he also left out. IMO more people would find 6k open gate more useful than 4k 120 in most situations, especially now a lot of shared videos have higher vertical ratio.
Hey, even though the Fuji doesn't make a full frame camera does NOT mean the x-s20 is NOT a cropped sensor camera 😂. By the way, that the Fuji misses 2 to 4 shots in 30~40 shots means its AF accuracy is 90~93% compared to 100% of the Sony. It's a HUGE difference, boys!
In every comparison of this type featuring a Fuji camera, whether based on JPEG or raw files, the Fuji always seems much less sharp. Could it be that Fuji applies automatic noise reduction to the raw files?
Itu di sebabkan oleh lensa yg digunakan, saya pernah melihat perbandingan di channel lain, mereka menggunakan lensa yang sama, yaitu lensa sigma dan viltrox dan hasilnya Fuji lebih tajam dibandingkan Sony
Damn minus 1 plus 4 minus 30 plus blah blah blah...With Fujis 19 film simulations you can now leave the computer in the basement and spend all of those gruelling hours trying to manipulate photos and video and simply get out of the house and have a photography adventure... You take some mighty Great pictures and obviously love photoshop. Thanks for your time and opinions.
You say you don't see a difference in boost mode image stabilization. 13:51 - I see a big difference on your test videos. The Sony looks s a lot better in boost mode.
Color fidelity on Sony is better. Fuji having no low pass filtee and 16 bits helps it in dynamoc range and good iso performance. There sensors are practically same as Sony produces the sensors for both.
It's another test where Fujiifilm camera is not as sharp on eye as competitive camera and I'm curious what is a reason of that?: 1. AF of Fujifilm is taking focus let say 2mm closer/further from eye, maybe eyelashes? In theory using manual focus could be more similar result in both cameras? 2. Optical quality of certain lens is mediocre? How it would look for example on the same third party lens manufacturer (just different lens mount of course) 3. Or maybe it is just not physically possible for this X-Trans sensor? Can someone explain?
I had an X-H2 but actually didn’t like the colours! I now have a G9 Mk2 - mainly for wildlife - and an a6700 for everything else. I find both these cameras have more pleasing colours than the Fuji. Another consideration is weather sealing, which the a6700 has but the X-S20 doesn’t (as far as I know).
hey man, I'm really struggling with choosing between these two cameras I'm currently using the old canon m200 , so either would be an incredible upgrade. i really want weather sealing and lots of people have recommended the Sony ecosystem, but open gate 6.2k and all the film simulations sound amazing I'm planning on using either as a travel / freelancing camera both are around the same price in my country so its just a matter of choosing what would you reccomend
I had the same dilemma.. I'm going with x-s20 for the film sims and Fuji color. I'll just have to be mindful of conditions are poor, and bust out my weather sealed Nikon in that case.

At iso 1600 looking at the coat, fuji is way more darker for the same iso, probably showing iso would need to be set to 3200 iso i guess to see similar shadow detail in the coat. So imo the sony 1600 iso version is much better image if fuji image would be set to see similar shadows in coat
Yes, the Fuji was running a little darker.
@@TheSlantedLensyup. SOS vs REI, totally different systems
Well said! Thanks for your comment!
You have Problems wird AF ??
How does the autofocus fair after the firmware updates for the Fujifilm xs20? Has it become better or is it less worse after like what happened to xh2s according to many youtubers who tried using multiple tests for autofocus tracking?
excellent video, thanks! But why on earth you would flip sides of showing cameras when talking about them vs real shoot showcasing? Always makes me double check what camera am I looking at
Sorry it created some confusion. We usually have them on the same side.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
regarding af, you didnt mention sony has touch-tracking in video, which can be very useful, whereas fuji doesnt
That is a nice option. Thanks for sharing!
for the video autofocus test, which LOG / LUT are you using for the fujifilm? It looks incredible!!
We did not use a log or lut. Just a straight raw image.
Great video this realy helped me make my choice. Can I ask what make your glasses are they're very cool.
If Fujifilm xs 20 worth it for wedding photography....?
I don't personally know people who are shooting weddings with the Fujifilm but I am sure there are people who do use it for weddings.
You can put Fuji noisegate setting on level=-4 and get much sharper image
Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
What lenses did you use on the two cameras when comparing image sharpness?
These are the lenses: Sony E 16-55mm f/2.8 G Lens:
B&H - bhpho.to/3P56RYL
Fujifilm XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR Lens:
B&H - bhpho.to/3LZAl8H
One thing you didn’t mention is that Fuji lens are better quality for the price compared to Sonys. So the Fuji is actually a much cheaper camera to own.
Good point. Thanks for your comment
Why don’t you go checking fuji vs Sony 16-55 f2.8 first? I’m pretty sure you will eat your own word.
@@withoutpassid you just proved my point. Now eat your own words.
@@FilmScape4K where did I prove your point?
@@withoutpassid by stating a Sony lens that is $1k more than the Fuji equivalent
Technically, you could just upload LUTs into the Sony and get very similar looks to the famous Fuji film simulations? Would I be correct in assuming that?
For general hybrid use, you would recommend the Panasonic over Sony and Fuji?
I would, but the S5ii is significantly larger than either of these. If size (and price) is not an issue, the Panasonic for sure.
The Panasonic is a better video camera.
could you please make a video comparin the a6600 with the a6700
مقارناتك رائعة و اختيارك للكمرات اروع
Thank you, I appreciate that!
I use The Nikon D7200 for travel. I use the GEOTAG app to add location info. Is the Fuji App working fine when adding the Geolocation? Is it shorten the battery life? Thanks.
We haven't used the app. Good question for a Fujifilm shooter!
Thank your for sharing your preference!
They are all getting more complicated.
Shutdown problems due to overheating in video recordings over 4k 30fps on Sony. You need to think while buying.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I don't believe this is a fair comparison in terms of sharpness. You should standardize the variables by using lenses with the same optical quality, such as Sigma lenses with different mounts. Comparing sharpness with different lenses does not necessarily reflect the body's sharpness performance.
so does the autofocus
ОГРОМНОЕ СПАСИБО ЗА ИНФОРМАЦИЮ КУПЛЮ ТОЧНО Fuji X-S20
Glad you found it helpful. Good luck with your purchase!
no mention of slow motion doesnt a6700 shoot 4k 120? also X-S20 shoots 240fps at 1080p
sony colours AWB is always off...love at the kitchen shoot...the cabinet is yellowish on the sony..the fuji stays white
Good eyes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
1. There's no 6k 60p in fuji.
2. Fuji's ISO scale is different from others.
3. It's not objective using different lens to test sensor quality.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Good things to consider.
Which camera is good to start as a filmmaker and help me make films
Fuji has better video specs, sony has better IS, really down to which brand you want to keep using throughout the future.
Please compare Medium Format GFX 100 ii (with 110mm F2 or 80mm F1.7 0r 55mm F1.7) *against* Full Frame Z9/Z8 or Sony A1.
We will see what we can do. Thanks for the suggestion!
Sony is sharper? Not the same lens for test...
They had comparable lenses. Thanks for watching!
Confused between a6700 & sx20. The only downside I feel sx20 has is the lack of weather sealing.
So how bad can a camera be without weather sealing?
I guess that depends on where you shoot.
Keep the camera away even with weather sealed body from dust or rain it's always safer.
Sony looks better for me. Cine look and LUTs upload is handy.
Good points. Thanks for sharing!
I was sure I'd like the colors on the Fuji better. Whadayaknow
Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing those specs!
How come you missed colours on Sony in your video test?, highlights overexposed, you can see in the background lights so its not a tie
Can you share a timestamp about what you are looking at?
Sony shoots in 4k 120, full hd 240 , it's strange that you didn't say
Fuji X-S20 has 6k open gate, which he also left out. IMO more people would find 6k open gate more useful than 4k 120 in most situations, especially now a lot of shared videos have higher vertical ratio.
Great points. Thanks for your comments!
IBIS is Panasonic still th no. 1 - the lumix is still my no, 1
Thanks for sharing your preference!
Sony's image quality gets better while reducing the exposure a bit
Hey, even though the Fuji doesn't make a full frame camera does NOT mean the x-s20 is NOT a cropped sensor camera 😂. By the way, that the Fuji misses 2 to 4 shots in 30~40 shots means its AF accuracy is 90~93% compared to 100% of the Sony. It's a HUGE difference, boys!
87-90% hit rate must be the figures. Is that really a huge differens?
@@musiconvinylisbetter.1449 ofc not.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@musiconvinylisbetter.1449 That can be quite the difference, especially in situations where there are no opportunities to redo the shot
@@AmaraARW yes, but not a HUGE difference.
In every comparison of this type featuring a Fuji camera, whether based on JPEG or raw files, the Fuji always seems much less sharp. Could it be that Fuji applies automatic noise reduction to the raw files?
Not sure what is creating the difference.
Itu di sebabkan oleh lensa yg digunakan, saya pernah melihat perbandingan di channel lain, mereka menggunakan lensa yang sama, yaitu lensa sigma dan viltrox dan hasilnya Fuji lebih tajam dibandingkan Sony
The Sony has the better AF, the Fuji the better video specs. Look at the lens selection. Pick whatever works better for you.
Good points. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I waited until several pro videographers review that Sony a6700 when it's first launched. I bought Fujifilm X-S20 after that. 😆
Sounds great. Hope you are happy with your purchase!
You say you don't see a difference in boost mode image stabilization. 13:51 - I see a big difference on your test videos. The Sony looks s a lot better in boost mode.
Thanks for sharing your observation. Keep on clickin!
اتمنى ان تعمل مقارنة بين كاميرة vsG9 R7وكاميرة سوني او G9vs R7
We will see what we can do. Thanks for watching!
6k upto 30fps only not 60fps in XS20
Thanks for pointing out that typo!
Color fidelity on Sony is better.
Fuji having no low pass filtee and 16 bits helps it in dynamoc range and good iso performance.
There sensors are practically same as Sony produces the sensors for both.
Good things to think about. Thanks for sharing.
Disagree on colour fidelity. Sony are justifiably notorious for the hue of their greens. I say that as both a Sony and Fuji shooter.
fuji 6k 60 fps ? and where is the sony 120 fps 4K ?
fuji doesnt have 60 fps 6k
I always choose anything over sony
Sony is so stail and dull
It's another test where Fujiifilm camera is not as sharp on eye as competitive camera and I'm curious what is a reason of that?:
1. AF of Fujifilm is taking focus let say 2mm closer/further from eye, maybe eyelashes? In theory using manual focus could be more similar result in both cameras?
2. Optical quality of certain lens is mediocre? How it would look for example on the same third party lens manufacturer (just different lens mount of course)
3. Or maybe it is just not physically possible for this X-Trans sensor?
Can someone explain?
I think it is just that the Sony is sharper.
In my country Sony is 1.75 times expensive than xs20, I don't know why, I probably go with the xs20.
That is a big price difference. Thanks for sharing your choice!
Fuji Xs 20 can video rerecording 6k 60fps really???
not 60 fps
Lol ofc the Fuji has a crop factor - its apsc, that’s why a 23 is 35 ff equivalent
The sony Boosted stabilization is clearly better
Thanks for sharing your opinion!
How u missed the a6700 4k 120fps 😮
That is a great offering from the a6700!
hey man, I'm really struggling with choosing between these two cameras
I'm currently using the old canon m200 , so either would be an incredible upgrade.
i really want weather sealing and lots of people have recommended the Sony ecosystem, but open gate 6.2k and all the film simulations sound amazing
I'm planning on using either as a travel / freelancing camera
both are around the same price in my country so its just a matter of choosing
what would you reccomend
I had the same dilemma.. I'm going with x-s20 for the film sims and Fuji color. I'll just have to be mindful of conditions are poor, and bust out my weather sealed Nikon in that case.
@@danielwerre4574 nice man, lemme know how it is when you get it
but i think im going with the sony just because i want to have peace of mind that i can use it basically anywhere im planning on going
@@MicMuted I'll try to remember to.. one more day to go! Why are you under the impression you wouldn't be able to use the x-s20 everywhere you may want to go?
