when they released Barbie Girl I was literally just a kid, but this song made me a fan of Aqua cause it re-introduced the band and their image. They really achieved that

IMHO the Aqua's audience were the ones that loved the lyrics and the music videos from the past, that were made with specific two-minded humor and message, that allowed the audience grow up and find new meanings.
Song like this from Aqua is far more melancholia in its style, with no such humor and color.
After i heard "Barbie girl" many years ago i branded Aqua as pop-crap band and whenever i saw their name i just passed. Many years after that i acidentally heard "turn back time" and realised they can make something good. So basically those who liked "Barbie girl" probably wont like this. So their initial fan base mostly got lost and for those who liked the song they're like a new band. Well that's an imho. Not like i know any facts about this.
@@user-ks8hf4bg5e Tbh I do like Barbie Girl a Lot and I do Love this song too, Aqua did have really great songs and great lyric writting, the two big problems with them was A) These new songs got release more than a decade apart from their other work, so...they weren´t really relevant by 2011 (when this was made) B) Aqua released this album Megalomania in order to proove that they could do a more "Mature" Pop Album, this cause they had been destroyed by the press and critics in the past for being too "Bubblegum Pop-like". Then when they presented this...the critic destroyed AQUA for deviating from their roots and the album was pretty much death before birth.

Potentially in this case, I would think that a smarter approach would have been to release this as branded as Lene solo instead. Nobody would be surprised if she as a solo artist represented a more serious mature type of music, and being associated with Aqua would have given enough leverage to get the world to listen and give it a chance anyway, without the expectations based on the Aqua brand values.

So... Lene represents grief, Rene symbolizes science and Claus & Søren personify religion. Lene is completely dressed in black with heavy black makeup around the eyes to paint the picture of the bereaved. Klaus and Søren both display cross necklaces. The participants' placement at the table is also symbolic: Lene and Rene sit at opposite ends, far from each other, signifying the great distance in viewpoint. While Lene sings with deep emotion of the mother-daughter love, Rene sings mechanically of neutrons and vibrations and the quantum-mechanical idea of a multiverse. Neither seem to be able to take in the other's perspective; Rene's perplexion becomes quizzical when Lene delivers her hot rant, and Rene's words only seem to generate defiance and disinterest in Lene. The placement of religion in between is perhaps the most interesting part, although far more low-key. Religion sits closer (half-way) to Lene than science, yet it remains quiet. There is no comfort to be had at this table, neither from religion nor from science. The whole scene is a deadlock. And speaking of death, there are many symbols of decay and mortality throughout the video: the autumn leaves, the pendulum clock, the rutten meat, the sour milk, the cochroach, the crumbled egg..

Even back then "Aqua" was never so shallow, even through those fun lyrics there was cleverness. Remember "Turn Back Time"? or "Aquarius" from their second album. They were always great and this song...omg this song is a whole other level. Aqua bring back so much good memories, they stayed in my life forever and I'm so glad. Long live!

This is for sure a piece of art. Everything about this video is so good. All the moviment even with them kinda stood still. Clean, well executed and refined. For sure this song and this video didn't quite receive all the commotion it surely deserves.

They split up early in the 2000's, but got together again in 2009. A few years after they split up again
They go on tuor in Denmark next year in 2017. They never split up their comeback -they just haven't done anything since ;)

This is an amazing song with very powerful lyrics. Probably one of the most meaningful and sad songs ever made.
Damn... never thought an Aqua song would bring tears to my eyes. I don't want my mom to die. I'm ok with accepting my death. If I have to die tomorrow, than so be it... but I don't want to lose my parents.

Вроде бы группа была у всех на слуху с весёленькой песенкой про Барби, а две моих любимых песни в их исполнении "Моя мама говорила" и "Повернуть время вспять" совсем не комические.
Но годные же.
Лично мне их глупые песенки больше нравятся. Это особое искусство, которое никому кроме них так практически освоить и не удалось. У "Руки Вверх" и ATC однажды случайно получилось, но только Aqua умудрялись стабильно выдавать глупые шедевры начиная с Roses Are Red, приставучие вусмерть, но почему-то не надоедающие.
Хотя в их серьёзных песнях их таланты куда более явно проявляются, так что мне понятно почему для некоторых они любимые.
