Hi 👋 Mark you have a great 👍 historic name! I new fan gladly hitting All buttons! I like your and your style like “Behind the shower curtain” Florida is Beautiful place to visit. I wish you a nice time 👍
you are so kind! Thank you and I look forward to having more fun with the build. Perhaps even share some of my limited wisdom and help others, too! Stay healthy.
Thank you so much...take your time if you have it. Space is always a concern. I wanted to have a cabin on wheels for the look AND be able to go somewhere immediately. Worked for me. Have a great holiday season.
Love seeing the great personality of this van! Love the use of burlap on the windows, and the other retro items! Wonderful! I am working to get started on my 2014 ProMaster and will be using a bunch of items that I already had around the house. Thanks for sharing!
It was a fun challenge to figure out how to use something "differently" than perhaps its originally intended use. Additionally, It feels nice to have comforting items along for the ride...things that may have more meaning than just an old piece of dry cypress....thank you for your kind words, very much appreciated! Good luck and let me know how it goes , please!
nice van build out with a nice "tiny rustic cabin" motif with the wood, crates, live edge wood counter, etc. I like the additional driving lights. I think a followup video showing the lights in use (driving into a dark wooded area country roads, with and without the lights on, and demo how they light up the rear when needed, and tips on how they were installed and wiring difficulties if any, would be helpful to others, and would help you get more views on your channel. I like your fold down table on the rear door too. I also ask every van builder to weigh their van after the build, and mention the weight in videos and whether or not that includes water (how many gallons), so future builders can get an idea of how much weight the wood interior and "stuff" adds to the van total weight. Well done. Happy trails.
Thank you so much for all the commentary and thoughtful ideas. I think you are absolutely right re providing the details (weight, lighting etc). I will get to it! At the moment trying to put a short video together on how to plan for a long road trip...hopefully when I am done with that I can get to your ideas. Be well and safe:)
We live full time in a 26 ft 5th wheel with no slide outs. 180 sq ft. Our future goal is to convert a van and go smaller. There's just SO much to see in this beautiful country and great people everywhere! Maybe we'll see you on the road! Safe travels!
Love the van...my husband and I are almost finished with ours. We have a 2014 promaster high top. We did all cedar tongue and groove on the walls and sides..it's all light weight and it was inexpensive to do and I love the cabin feel it gives and it smells so good. First thing I did when I got in disability was to get my free lifetime national park pass...I can't wait to visit some or all of them lol
I bought the same van in October and used it to move my adult son and five dogs across the country. We had to live in it for 45 days before securing a house! Next up is building it out!
I’ve watched hundreds of these van build videos, and I always am concerned about the weight added. If I ever get into one of these, I will most likely use the least amount of materials, and equipment necessary to be aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. Your focus on self reliance is commendable. The cabin ambiance is quite attractive, too. I find the rustic look and feel to be much more homey than many of the sleek, commercial style builds that seem to be so pervasive. Lighting is also important. Nice job.
Thank you so much! Oddly (and I mean it!), the added weight doesnt impact MPG much. I cant believe it either. The wood was very dry and planed to 1/2 to 3/4 inch...realistically there is not much square footage in terms of wall coverage, so maybe it looks worse? lol, very appreciated and thanks...I was so busy I did not reply very fast, apologies.
@@hanklee6529 no more than 1,000 lbs more than when it left the manufacturer. Honestly I’ve never had it weighed, and I guess I should. If I do I’ll post it.
@@WildJourneys let me know when you do. I weighed my van completely empty and I am consciously watching the weight that I put into my van. I'm looking at thinner lighter alternatives to wood.

you are very observant! I prop it open to keep any mildew etc from forming when not in use...sharp eye. The sponge is actually the factory foam spacer that was part of the original plain cargo van (used between the van sheet metal and some plastic covers in the cargo area). I tried to reuse everything from the build, and discard nothing.
Since you suggested that you go a little off road, why not consider a lift kit? www.wildernessvans.com/product/ohv-promaster-3-5-lift-kit/ Raising the body of the van will allow you to install taller tires and give you a little more clearance.
Nope, its a 2018. I bought it with 19k miles for a decent price. Good mpg and has all the modern things like bluethooth etc. Back up camera makes things much safer too. Hope that helps!
oh I see what you mean! I had done a 2019 tour of the van, the original one...this one is the New Tour, thus the "2020" in the title! I will watch that in the future, I hope you're not too put off?!
yeah, I misspoke. I did it in a few places (no script!) I meant these www.google.com/search?q=emergency+drinking+water+straw&sxsrf=ACYBGNQS3GbTFPIhBPXZaPWz6PJiMuZsVg:1581472092330&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj6iaTS8srnAhVomeAKHc5oBLMQsxh6BAgNECw&biw=1920&bih=969 my bad!
@@WildJourneys Good question actually, I debated that placement. Ultimately I decided everything prior to 2:30 was kind of just not worth the viewing time. Low information density.
I set up the shower outside the van or usually take them at the YMCA etc. I am afraid of too much moisture in the van...but your point is well taken! Thanks for the thoughts!

Q-Nice build. Thanks for showing us.
A-Thank you for the kind words and compliments!
Q-I do wish you had showed many more of the technical specifics, such as how many watts of solar you’re carrying on the roof, how big an inverter.
A-400 volts come from 4 Renogy panels on the roof. The inverter is 2000 watts off the 400 amp hour battery bank, gel batteries.
Q-How do you heat and cool, if you do beyond the fan and windows.
A-We do not have AC. Much of our travel is to cooler destinations outside of FL. The insulation works well and the windows and Maxxfan do the job. Heating is solid too. We carry heavier blankets on colder trips and have been comfortable in 29f weather.
Q-Where do you store your food
A-There is a ton of storage that is out of site. Since we do not eat meat much of the storage can be outside of the fridge freezer. I may do another video on storage!
Q-how much water do you carry, how does it get into your sink, etc. etc.
A-6 Gallons of fresh water, 6 gallons of gray. The water moves from the tanks to the sink via a hand pump, which I may change to electric at some point.
I hope that helps answer a few more things. Thanks for the feedback, it'll help me plan for informative tours:)
Love the rustic look you've gone for.

promasters are awesome, ours has been bullet proof

Great video. Without AC how do you stay cool during the summer in central Florida?
Good question! I rarely camp in the heat of Florida....however, when I have the van ventilation keeps things cool, especially with the fan pulling air through the windows.
I love your video!

I like your build, has everything in it. How much it cost you for interior.
windows, air vent were the big ticket items (I am not including solar in this). maybe $3,000...The lumber was all free.

I have a 2018 Promaster that is being built out. Can you tell me what brand running boards you used and where you got them? By the way check out my new cooking show for nomads and maybe subscribe and let me know what you think.
I am a Nutritarian and would LOVE to subscribe:) In fact, I did lol...

subbed, hope you have many #happymilesandsmiles with your van
and may your smile be plentiful my friend....thanks for reaching out!
Wild Journeys now has an Instagram account at Wildjourneysnow, take a moment and check it out!! Thanks everybody 😃

Why does he have the refrigerator propped open with a sponge
you are very observant! I prop it open to keep any mildew etc from forming when not in use...sharp eye. The sponge is actually the factory foam spacer that was part of the original plain cargo van (used between the van sheet metal and some plastic covers in the cargo area). I tried to reuse everything from the build, and discard nothing.
@@WildJourneys I wanna learn everything I need to know 😄

lol, love the gifs!
Everybody’s an actor now. Lol
Acting? More like a terrible host! lol, thanks for the comment man....I agree entirely:)
Since you suggested that you go a little off road, why not consider a lift kit? www.wildernessvans.com/product/ohv-promaster-3-5-lift-kit/
Raising the body of the van will allow you to install taller tires and give you a little more clearance.
I need to look into that...and have wanted to, now, I will - thanks!
So it’s not a 2020?
Nope, its a 2018. I bought it with 19k miles for a decent price. Good mpg and has all the modern things like bluethooth etc. Back up camera makes things much safer too. Hope that helps!
Why did the title say 2020 pro master and your showing us a 2018 pro master?
oh I see what you mean! I had done a 2019 tour of the van, the original one...this one is the New Tour, thus the "2020" in the title! I will watch that in the future, I hope you're not too put off?!
“Emergency water straws“?
yeah, I misspoke. I did it in a few places (no script!) I meant these www.google.com/search?q=emergency+drinking+water+straw&sxsrf=ACYBGNQS3GbTFPIhBPXZaPWz6PJiMuZsVg:1581472092330&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj6iaTS8srnAhVomeAKHc5oBLMQsxh6BAgNECw&biw=1920&bih=969 my bad!
Never start with the garage
lol, good tip!

what did you mean by the 5'? Sorry, it must be obvious, but my brain may not be engaged at the moment!
2:30 skip skip skip skip skip skip
didnt like the lighting? I went to the 2:30 point...is that what you mean?
@@WildJourneys Good question actually, I debated that placement. Ultimately I decided everything prior to 2:30 was kind of just not worth the viewing time. Low information density.
No shower!No good..!
I set up the shower outside the van or usually take them at the YMCA etc. I am afraid of too much moisture in the van...but your point is well taken! Thanks for the thoughts!
The cornyness was too painful.
I am technically old...it happens:) I agree.
CRAP
how so?
