We just received this amazing email from the owners of "Fred" after they have spent almost 1 year in the van, and wanted to share with you all!
"Hi Tom and Kyleigh,
It's been about a year since we picked up our completed van, "Fred". In that time we have spent about 3 months in the van (long trip in CO, long trip in Baja and numerous shorter trips).
We wanted to take a few minutes to give you some feedback. In short, we could not be any happier and love everything about it! We came to you with a dream build wish list and you made it a reality balancing form and function. The guidance (both big and small) you gave us during the build process was invaluable and resulted what we think is the perfect build. The attention to detail really stands out over time and has not gone unnoticed. The more time we spend in Fred the more we love it.
This is by no means a comprehensive list of things, but some of the things we love are:
- The insulation is amazing. We are comfortable even when temps approach the extreme.
- The venting setup (placement of the Maxxair over the bed, the incoming vent in under the van - brilliant). AC is not necessary.
- Your recommendation of going as electric as possible. Love not dealing with propane.
- Color choices and finish are perfect. The brick...we know it's polarizing on the UA-cam channel, but we love it.
- The insulated "privacy curtains" in front and back. Tell everyone they need these. They make things so cozy and really block the heat/cold. The quality of the insulated curtains is fantastic.
- The over the driver storage...our specs were "can you make better use of this area?" and you gave us an attractive space that provides 30% more storage and integrates subtly with the privacy - curtain. And it's attractive.
- Upgrading the suspension...fantastic. The van drives great both on/off road.
- Again we wanted it all...a full size bed, work/eating area and a biggish galley. And you did it. And, the ergonomics just work work in every way (feet don't dangle when sitting, space to sit). We just marvel at that.
- And the garage. You asked for measurements for our larger stuff and everything just fits perfectly. The shelving is amazing. We haul a ton of stuff, but everything has it's place.
- The construction is top-rate...there's very little noise when we drive.
We could go on. Just want you to know how happy we are. Thank you very much for making our dream come true.

this is by far my favorite van conversion that ive seen..
We need the small fridges to have doors that open both ways! With that design you can't really load it from outside can you because the door is in the way? Unless you swap the direction over but then it's hard to access inside. So no win? Drawer fridge might work there.

You clowns. All you need do is say "OK Google!" "Make fridge easily accessed from outside." A hydraulic lift proceeds to elevate the fridge tilting it so the door opens and the contents spill all over you, the lift shakes the fridge a few times, then returns the fridge to the most important position - where it can be easily accessed from the inside.

Hi everyone! Thank you for watching our video and taking the time to comment! I see a lot of people commenting about the direction of the fridge door, the toilet, and the shower.
The refrigerator door opens 180 degrees, which makes it really easy to access when you are outside. We have the same set up in our personal van and we love it- so easy to grab a beer after a mountain bike ride or to load the refrigerator with groceries. If the direction were swapped, it would make it difficult to access while inside when the sliding door is closed, so we're really happy with the current direction.
The couple has a folding toilet that they purchased separately from the conversion. It's perfect for their needs- weekend trips and wilderness adventures. Easy to clean and easy to pull out for emergencies, while leaving plenty of space in their medium sized van. The van community is very split on the need of a bathroom- 50% can't imagine van life without a built in bathroom with toilet and shower, and 50% would prefer to use that space for other luxuries. This solution fit this particular clients needs perfectly. Check out our Fitz Roy video for an example of a van with a full wet room.
I didn't show the outdoor shower in this video, I only mentioned it and showed the wash down hose. They have an outdoor shower as their main concern was showering after sweaty sports like mountain biking. Outdoor showers in the middle of nature are amazing- I highly recommend you try it!

Semi professional is the technical name for this type of faucet. Yes, there are "commercial" taps too, which would be used in a professional kitchen. :)

Seems kind of overkill for a mobile set-up where you don't want to use a lot of water. Looks good though. And I'm sure the sprayer makes washing dishes easier.

One of the best ones I have see yet. Very smart use of the space. I especially love the seating/work/extra bed space as well as the outdoor access for the water tank. Something I would've added as an extra would've been a ceiling mount for a tv on the foot side of the bed that you can lower down.

I bought a Ford E350 extended van for $4,000 and built my own rv/van.. spent about $13, 000 total.. it's awesome!! full kitchen, running water, a shower, solar, etc.. best thing I ever did :)

Nice design. I like the amount of water and kitchen. I like the refrig location. I like the outdoor shower. I prefer the folding toilet too.

Hi from the UK. This looks great but.......the bed ends need thick insulation or your head and toes will freeze. Maybe add on insulation outside ? Could be magnetic so adjustable to the seasons. It's an idea I'm playing with. I know why you did it this way ( from my experience working on curvy, narrowing transits.) I'd always go for lengthways beds. These vans are just too narrow for width ways. Personally I wouldn't build a van without toilet and internal hot shower space but that's challenging in a shorter van, and it comes down to user preferences. Some really great design, specification and finish here. Don't let any negative comments (including mine) discourage you. You should be proud of this build. Happy travels everyone. John

TheBariloche2010 prices vary from 35k to 75k for shower wheel bases and 45k to 100k for long wheel bases. They’re making incredible profit. Do it yourself.
It would be worth the cost - especially if you aren't handy with tools.

Huh? Sounds a little Bsey … why not just say, "We don't want to give out the price"? Afterall - if you're showing a video of a 3Dimensional object that's done to a point of showing it on a video, that 3d object has a cost... even if it's just an about cost. I was a line producer in the tv/film industry for 10 years... I can budget and cost out construction builds (and tons of other stuff) so this doesn't ring true. Peace and thanks. @@FreedomVans

Great thought about the placement of the refrigerator. With less storage, a toilet could be added and a drawer shower for full time living! I would love to live in this! It has a NYC chic vibe!
One of the nicest builds I've seen in a while....and I see alot (check my channel)
The only thing I'd do differently for myself is I'd go with a dometic dual zone top loading portable fridge. Super efficient, ice cream cold and I can move it to another vehicle as needed.

Crystal Vanner lots of choices on that from an almost free to portable Potty’s to dry flush Toilet 🚽 I chose the Lavo dry flush for my RV so I didn’t have to dump a black water tank. Much to research
This couple opted for a folding portable toilet that they store away- something more for emergencies as the van will mostly be for weekend trips and wilderness adventures.

A cassette toilet and shower would be a minimum requirement for me, the lack of this leaves a lot of extra space though.

Can you build one for less? How many hours would it take you? Would you pay yourself minimum wage or a fair wage ? 3 lithium x 100ah batteries alone is roughly $3k alone
