- In this video I show you how to double your FPS on your handheld gaming PC like the ROG Ally, Legion Go, AYANEo, OneXplayer and any other X86 handheld that uses RDNA2 or RDNA3 graphics! We are going to enable AMD Fluid motion frames to do this and it really works on the 780M iGPU! This is also know as Frame Gen or Frame generation.

I don't have any kind of these handhelds but i love to watch your videos
i just like to learn. i made a oculink mini PC watching his vids. he has some great ideas.
then buy one
I only watch it to decide on one, and I can never make up my mind.
@@itzdcx7991 As if everyone can afford it🙄🙄 I bet you tell homeless people to have home than be in the street
Great stuff ETA!
I'm playing Infinite Wealth at well over 90fps (outdoors) and hitting over 120+ FPS (indoors) on Medium settings. The Ally comes in handy for side content, dungeons and such.
Cheers! I'm going to apply this to my Minis forum EM680, a few games it's struggled with that this should really help with
Just wanna say thank u for this video made a huge difference some games never looked as good as they do now appreciate u ty
Hi ETA, the metric "Frame Gen Lag" is not very descriptive and brings the video into question: we don't know if it represents total latency or the latency added specifically by frame generation. Please clarify this as the disadvantages of frame generation (DLSS or FSR) are amplified with lower powered GPUs.
You can look up amds software with descriptions of what they mean. Idk what more you want. Google is free
@@chuyh01 "Google is free" = "ETA's video might be useless to APU users if he can't explain or doesn't understand the metric himself"
That's the point of my comment.
dont expect him to ever get actually in depth in any of his videos. He barely scratces the surface
Well if you look at the metric graph you can see both Avg latency and Frame gen latency there...if that's what you meant.
What's the difference between AMD fluid motion and FSR 3 frame generation? Is it the same tech just a driver toggle to allow it in games that haven't added it in?
Awesome video! This will help sell more gaming handhelds for sure!
Question: How do you get past the handhelds with Portrait displays; like the AOKZoe A1 Pro or the Legion Go? They seems to not work with AFMF because the display shows Landscape (flipped) I've heard some may have solved it but I haven't seen any proper tutorial
Also wondering about this
Legion Go does not support this as far as I know...
@@AllKidsOutNow pretty sure there’s multiple videos available showing the Legion Go with AFMF enabled.
@@LVNeptune unless maybe you side load drivers. The legion go does not support afmf because the LCD is native portrait. That's why Lenovo is taking so long to update the drivers on their end.
I LOVE THIS!! I have been making videos on my g14 which has 780M. and I have frame gen with that as well!!
Really appreciate it the tutorial on how to do this fin try this on my Rog/GO.
Thanks for this! I couldn't get it to work but I had armory crate open. FF7 Remake at 15 TDP running 45-100 fps. With VRR it's smooth. Super happy. Lag doesn't affect play this game but getting up to 50 m/s
My Legion GO is arriving in a few hours today, after a few tweaks I think I'll try FMF, cheers!
I believe you need the Lossless scalling app to do this on LeGo
How is it?
How’d it go?
Does the "SuperResolution" on the amd panel works together with "AFMF" to give you even better frame rates?
Personally I loved this driver update. I played through Arkham knight on 1080p high textures and filtering at 70-90fps. It’s crazy and a complete game changer for some games
5:05 Why did u pick AMD RADEON (TM) 780 than AMD Radeon (TM) 780 graphics ?
Quick question, I have a laptop with a R7 7840HS. When I did the update from amd (Didn’t pick the big file) will this work for my laptop? I’m using a legion slim 5 with 7840HS. I ask because when I manually update the driver I was getting clack screen and I needed to switch to dgpu and remove the drivers.
Quick update: I follow this video and ai was able to update my Lenovo Legion Slim 5 with the R7 7840HS and it works for both the drivers and the Adrenaline!
Fmf even with a good base frame rate has always felt very floaty to me. That 40-60 range feels better than 80-100 with fmf. For me at least.
How the heck have I been watching you for years and only noticing tonight I wasn't even subscribed to you!!! Sub'd officially now lol.
Thankyou so much bro first i was getting about 50-60 fps in gta v but now i am getting about 135 fpss definately worth it btw loving your videos ❤❤
Hey ETA, I just want to know can you Test Lossless Scaling on ROG Ally?
Thank You
I can’t find my I have oxp mini pro with Ryzen 7 6800U with 680M
thank I needed this video
@ETAPRIME 8840U supports H.A.G.S. which helps afmf . Hopefully 7840u will have H.A.G.S. enabled soon as well.
What’s funny is it used to be available on the 7840u the option only went away probably 4 or 5 months ago
Tried to install the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition on the Legion Go, it's a no Go due to "error 182". But I did manage to updated the driver and installed the little Adrenalin package.
Were you able to get the frame generation to work?
Do you have LegionGo?
Does AFMF on LegionGo work?
Hey there bro thanks for the guide . So i have a question , i just finished installing this and somehow i got an update option from armor create to update the amd radeon graphic driver ? So should i just ignore this one ?
You mentioned earlier about not using armoury create overlay ? The overlay you said was it the real time monitor on command center or what ? Can we still update all on armoury create like usual ?
Sorry for the dumb question because i’ve never played on pc before and i just got my ally for a few weeks now 🙏🙏
Thank you in advance for responding 🙏 If you can elaborate more details or tips on what i shouldn’t do to maximize the fluid motion that would be so much appreciated
So when i click the bell icon for Performance Metroc Setup Required and click Enable, i receieve a popup. Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device and i click Yes it fails everytime. Please help
so i decide to try it and in this steps 7:40 i cant enabled it says "performance metric setup failed"
"In order to enable tracking of all performance metrics, acceptances to User Access Control (UAC) changes are required. Changes to metrics will apply after a reboot."
I had the same message, i tried a thousand times and couldn’t get it to work. I even tried disabling uac in windows… did you find a fix?
That's amazing bro
In Spiderman as You showed You can see that AFMF does not work when moving camera. IMO Lossless Scaling is a much better option - less issues, works when with camera movement, can be used with almost everything including UA-cam videos.
Friend, thank you so much for this video, you don't know how
Hey ETA, Do you know if this feature would be available in the future without installing AMD drivers? like Asus would include this directly?
Asus mentioned adding it at some point.
Great good job bro 👍👍👍
The whole “Do not use armoury crate overlay” is a deal breaker for me personally.
Whenever Asus implements FSR 3 to the ROG Ally officially, I’ll definitely try it out. 👍
Agreed, love my ally to bits but even with fine tuning fsr looks good 😮
This is not FSR3, FSR3 is implemented in games, this is AMD FMF (fluid motion franes) they both generate frames but in very different ways.
Bro what are u talking about
@@PriestPoppy yeah man that's why he's saying he would wait for fsr3 and not use this.
@@mattbobjim911 he said "Asus implements FSR3" so he clearly meant "Asus pushes the AMD FMF drivers". Asus doesn't implement FSR3, game devs do.
Does this work with Legion go's native portrait screen ? I read many posts and it does not work for legion go. Then this title might be misleading for those who owns Legion go
On an Ayaneo which also have portrait display it only works when there are no overlay at all. Even using AMD overlay will disable it. Also the AMD overlay will render as of the display was rotated so it is quite annoying to use (this was on the February AMD driver not the newest one from March).
How to tell if AFMF is working w/o any overlay you ask? Well, it does look smoother and you can see some visual artifacts due to the Interpolated frames. I used it with Starfield before FSR3 was released for that game. Needless to say FSR3 is clearly superior.
idk what to do, when i go to the offical website for the amd drivers, mines on my side looks way different and when you go to download your driver and put the info, its not the same. What do I do? Im using the Rog Ally
This works on the z1 Ally if you download the R5 7540u (740m) drivers!!!
Cyberpunk 720p low/medium native runs 60-90fps!
Destiny 2 runs 720p @ 75-120fps
Jedi: fallen order ran 55-100fps at 720p medium w/epic draw distance.
I am loving this performance!!!!!!
Thanks for this amazing video.
could you explain which exact one to download because i see alot of r5 drivers
THANK YOU
You have rog ally extreme ör normal?
I've got these installed, however for me it says inactive even though AMD says fluid motions are on?
I'm wondering for the devices that have 60hz screens if it'll help it keep a steady 60fps without adding too much latency due to less frames needing to be inserted.
Not sure about this app, but using frame generation using the Lossless Scaling app, if your frames exceed half the refresh rate, it actually makes it look worse, like choppy frames.
I've already installed the drivers 23.40.01 preview version with AMD FMF, how can I update to latest version 24.3? Adrenaline check for update do not work It shows im updated... With the same method of the video? Thank you
Tried your method just now with my Legion Go. Everytime I launch a game (Ive tried dishonored, fallen order, rpcs3), the overlay flips into portrait mode, and looks distorted too. I also made all my games Fullscreen and VSYNC OFF, still N/A on Fluid Motion, and even says in the dashboard (alt+r) that "Fluid Motion is inactive. Please use Direct X 11 or 12 api" 🤔🤔
Thanks brother, you just doubled my performance in RE4 and cyberpunk.... thanks
Any latency or lagging?
@@keenynthewise yeah not that much though, any framegen will introduce some lag, just don't use this for competitive game and you're gucci
@@MtFoxt Just enable antilag, it makes it ALOT better
he didnt do shit. lmfao
So I updated from preview drivers 23.40.01.10 to the one in video, 24.3.1 & the Adrenaline app kept crashing on me. I downgraded back & its working right again. Very weird.
How does the process change when using the non-extreme Z1 ROG Ally?
Can't find this option on my Ayaneo Air Plus 6800U Device. I've installed the latest Adrenaline Software version. Any Idea?
Try DDU for removing all old video-drivers from windows safe-mode
Does anyone know if it works with a Radeon 680m
Does this work on the non extreme Z1?
Why did you not just extract the files normally from the regular right click and instead downloaded 7zip for it?
Would frame gen work with a larger rig for vr gaming ? Getting free frames would be super useful for that
Hey ETA PRIME, nice video as usual. I installed the latest AMD driver as you explained but my AMD overlay seems to be broken and I don't see why. I display N/A for both Frame Gen Lag and FPS counter which is weird. I tried couple games in full screen, no VSync as you said. Tried to reinstall and reboot, nothing changes. Maybe I'm using GHelper and AC. Maybe there is.a conflict somewhere ? (RivaTuner & AC Metrics displays the FPS counter properly, I don't know if it's possible to display FML in Rivatuner)
FMF doees not work on LEGION GO at all due to the screen orientation. Not sure why u are saying it does.
Just applied it and saw Tiny Tina go from 48 fps to 100 fps. Even though fluid motion latency is N/A
thanks mate!
Maybe i missed this, but does anti lag do anything to the latency?
After trying it on my ROG Ally, it's not perfect BUT it does work very well and it does provide 20% to 50% frame improvements depending on the game and TDP. The Frame Lag isn't that bad, but again, your mileage may vary.
Hi. Just to confirm, you are not facing any ghosting right?
@@sagriz88there’s a lot of choppiness on my sice
Hey ETA Prime. Thanks again for another fantastic ROG Ally video. I was wondering if you could help me? I cannot get this to work with minecraft? I was hoping I would be able to use fluid motion frames to boost my FPS in minecraft while using a texture pack.
The thing with a handheld is that a little more input lag is not the worst because the thing has little to no input lag in first place.
Having peripherals and a monitor externally connected always adds natural input lag which is essentially not existent on a hanheld
All im saying is that any handheld is perfect for frame gen because it combats it's only downside (input lag) atleast to a noticeable extent.
Can we do some fps lock with this feature to lower power usage?
I tried all that but when I load into a game it tells me the fluid motion frame is disabled with a yellow exclamation point next to it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
I find the and overlay so buggy on the rog, some games it works some it don’t and sometimes the FPS is just stuck at 30 weather it be in a game or just on desktop.
i tried this on legion go but my overlay is sideways. is there any way i can fix that?
Same for me, I turn on frame generation in settings but when I get in a game the overlay is sideways and frame gen lag says N/A
Been using it with cod mw3 on my ROG ALLY its great
I did this on my legion go and now the amd overlay is displayed in portrait mode? Idk how to fix it 😕
Does not work in Ryzen 6800u devices, tested in AokZoe A1, GPD winmax2 and Onexplayer mini pro 6800u. The AMD fluid motion Frames setting does not show up even after clean driver install
It Will work on the Steam Deck anywhere soon? Ana oficial update? Or something?
With the legion go being prtrait display, most games wil have windowed or windowed fullscreen, I wonder how this will work
Try it report back, thanks!
@@mosthated8848 apparently someone has on the legion and it does not work yet. I’ll wait until legion implements it

can you please make a tutorial for this if we are running steam os or bazzite?
Will this work on steamdeck or is there a different version?
Does it work on the Steam Deck too or just Windows based hand helds?

Can I use these same steps with the legion go?
Yes.. I got it installed on my legion Go..
@@transalchemy785appreciate it but the amaf doesn’t work with the go right? I’ll have to continue to use lossless scaling? Or did they fix it?
Just did it successfully I’m going to try some games right now specifically dragon dogma 2 to see if it’s any performance difference
I followed up with these step by step it still doesn't work on my lenovo go. Might be I missed some things?
Hi! You mentioned that this option can be used on rdna2? How can I enable this on 6800U/680M? Thanks!
I think there's no support for 6800u sadly
I have the Ayaneo Air Plus with the 6800u but there is no Frame Generator, too bad.
Frame gen only available on Radeon RX7000/700M series APU's above.
It doesn't seem to wotk on my Lenovo Legion Go :(
Don't know if I dis something wrong or else but no différences between with and without Frame Gen.
I did put fullscreen on and v sync off but nothing changes :(
Plus I got the overlay being in the wrong position xD
But thanks anyway !
If someone had the dame issue I would be pleased to knowif tbere is a solution :D
Why my Rog ally inactive: Not compatible with the Game’s display mode. But I’m on full screen
“The best driver stack I’ve seen so far”
Doesn't work on Dragon Dogma 2 for me. Did everything like in the instruction, full screen v-sync off.
My Ally shows 780M and 780M Graphics which do i choose?
Hi guys ...i was wondering if any of you also get a direct x issue when launching fc 24
Handhelds are the future of laptops
Will this work on the ROG ally with the external GPU?
Dum question will this work on og steam deck?
Not dumb I was bout to ask the same question 😂
I think only if you have windows installed. But on the Linux side, it won’t work
@@brianpicou9615 thx just got one last week so I’m learning got some emulation working
(Can’t get ps2 to work yet)
And it’s got a bad pixel and won’t turn on from sleep mode I’m thinking of returning it to GameStop 🤦
It could work since the frame gen happens on a driver-level.
What we need is a implementation for Linux.
That is what amd/valve has to deliver.
Frame Gen doesn't work well on most games on Steam Deck, stutters due to drops and inconsistent, probably because RDNA 2.
ASUS has just announced ROG Ally will be updated to support
I just reset my Asus rog ally and was about to sell it tomorrow, gonna try this out and test it out
Bruh you'll regret that don't be so quick to hate something you spent hundreds of dollars on. Toy with it and get your preferences
Why?
One x mini Ryzen5 is support fot this?
Is this better than FSR3?
Did all this on my Legion Go but when I open Helldivers 2 there's an AMD window that's sideways showing some stats, one that said fluid motion inactive, it disappears and then the regular stats come up and but its also sideways and squished up...shows NA for fluid even thogh I'm full screen and vsync off....hmmmm.
Won't work on portrait screen, might as well sell the legion for a rog ally
@@superbar womp womp. I had an Ally but returned for the Go...I like the bigger screen better. But that's a bummer to hear.
I honestly dunno if I wanna do this on my Rog ally as I don't wanna break it as I'd have no way to revert it
I cant decide whether to get the rog ally or spend a little more on the legion go. i have a 1st gen steam deck running windows but i want a native windows handheld. what are your thoughts between the 2?
If the price difference not much then get the legion go for bigger screen estate, egpu possibility.
^^^ I have both bc my gf steals my ally for palworld, I love the bigger screen on the go for sure tho. Will be gaming on it more for sure, but it does weigh more than the ally to me personally it doesn’t matter. I also love the fact that I can connect an egpu to it much easier than the ally. I will be using both for different circumstances but rn favoring the go for sure
go ahead and pick the rog ally up! Its compact and feels like an actual handheld unlike the legion go which is just too gigantic and heavy in my humble opinion.. plus the ally has been around for quite some time now so it has been updated a LOT.. which is absolutely awesome this will make it possible for you to have a much smoother experience on the ally
Does the Lenovo have updated drivers from Lenovo yet?
Or does the forced/backdoor way to install drivers from AMD fix the issue they've had since the Legion GO's launch that prevent it from working like a proper handheld?
The last few times i tried direct from AMD drivers any time many games would go full screen, the game will flip to portrait, and then full screen windowed would just look like a bunch of interlaced lines.
(for reference, on Lenovo drivers display options would be 2560x1600, but with AMD drivers that same option would be 1600x2560/800x1280 with no option to select 2560x1600/1280x800
I've actually had better luck using the official SteamOS(from steam, not from holoISO or bazzite) than the OEM AMD drivers on windows, though the drivers do seem to be meant for RDNA2 not RDNA3.
Ok, so this might be my fault from my long history in IT, my problem may be caused by me completely removing the old lenovo drivers before installing the AMD drivers, maybe there's a hidden inf for the monitor that needs to be carried over.
But as it stands having Steam launch at login and start in big-picture mode didnt work most of the time for me, will have to try again.
Will this make Kingdom hearts 1.5 2.5 run without crashing on a legion go?
how do i switch back to the armoury crate drivers?
Will this work on the amd Z1 Rog Ally?
RDR2 ultra is running at 40fps on my ally. Not sure fluid is working for me
I’ve realised when I dock it, it doesn’t work is that supposed to happen?
Does this work for emulation?
Didnt work for RDR2 for me. Frame Gen is showing as N/A and i made sure to have full screen mode and vsync OFF
Does it also work on a Ryzen 7 5700G APU?
Has anyone tried frame gen who has also used lossless scaling app? Was wondering which is better
Thank you so much for your guide. It's crazy how. When a windows update can mess anything up from either side and thank you again for the video and helping out our community
5:05 - are you sure we need to pick the "AMDRadeon (TM) 780M" and not "AMDRadeon (TM) 780M Graphics"?
I also have the same question ❤
you have to use "AMDRadeon (TM) 780M Graphics" as the one mentioned in the clip doesn't have Fluid Motion Frames enabled@@rolandcruz4786
Does this work on my commodore 64?
there are lukefz fsr3 mods - doubling from 37 gives nice 70fps, work way better than afmf and it works in dynamic mode - the game lowers resolution to achieve needed fps.
