Bought my Rog Ally March 1, 2024 and I just opened and charged it today March 5, 2024. I started the setup at 12:30pm and its now 4:55pm. Everything is updated and this tutorial was well worth it
@seehafenzwerg2087 Yeah that long and this isn't even setting up EmuDeck or Emulation Station. Now I haven't updated windows in about 2 weeks since hearing about the slow downs and crashes
@GokuDUchiha Honestly, I couldn't tell you that. Everything I know so far about my Rog Ally I learned from UA-cam. But, there is someone on youtube explaining the Valorant game settings and keyboard lag
If you didn't already know you can get the official AMD drivers and adrenaline and use AMD Fluid Motion frames to basically double your framerate in any dx11 or dx12 game. ETA Prime has a good tutorial and shows some games running on his channel
This is an EXTREMELY well made video! This was literally the vid that made me topple over and just get Rog Ally like I’ve been wanting so I thank you 🙏 I will for sure be using this in-depth vid to help setup my new (also being my first) PC Handheld 💜 you’ve just earned a new sub my guy 🔥
I've had the Ally for about 5 months now, but i never knew about the quick control thing what you showed at the beginning. Thank you, really helpful 🙏🙏
@@VelvetMagician Great, had an absolute blast, of course some issues still prevail to this day, such as the OS being glitchy at times, controls being clunky, but ASUS did a really great job improving and fixing the issues on the ROG Ally. @@Driftyicy Hi! What about battery life? Like I mentioned in comments above, planning to play on 15 w (games like Elden Ring, Fallout 4, Death Stranding etc). Will I have at least 1hr without plug in? Thanks!

Thankyou so much for the tutorial, got mine yesterday and could not get games to run after about 4 hours of updates, was on the verge of taking it back until I found your video. Followed it through and works a treat now. You are a life saver.
Just ordered my ROG Ally Z1, expecting it December 4th, 2024 at the latest. Will definitely use this to make sure I'm getting the best performance I can and the controls are set to my liking on the games I play the most (I *hate* R3 being left click and ZR being right click on my Paradox games, for instance - wanna keep that consistent across the board and use the triggers for both clicks.) Thanks for the video!
thank you friends, finally I understand how to use UMPC Rog Ally. At first I was confused about how to operate the device, but now I understand, thanks bro
Can you please make it clear about bios updates - is it ok now to update to the newest version? Just ordered my new baby yesterday, OP, thank you for your input to the community!
You won’t regret it. Keep in mind, if you want it to run the smoothest it could possibly be, plug it in with the charger it came with or the one they’re trying to sell with all the ports
This is a great tips video. It’s comprehensive and easy to comprehend for people new to pc gaming. I wish I would have found this when I first bought my ally. Great job 👍🏿
Recently got Rog Ally as a gift from a friend and this is the tutorial I need. Setting this up alone is a hassle since it's not that straightforward. Thanks armory crate and it's issues.
Glad the tutorial helped :) Windows and AC definitely have their drawbacks. There is something called "G-Helper" that I prefer as it let's me leave AC completely off. I have a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/CyFQUacAIf8/v-deo.html.
I don't have one of these, but correct me if I am wrong here, but doesn't the trigger setting under the calibrate triggers section of the video not do what you said? You said when you fully held it down it only went to like 90%. Isn't this a more a way to set how hard you want to press to get 100%? I realize I could be wrong, but it feels more like a setting you could do to only hold the button down slightly and get full trigger pull instantly in something like a shooter so there is no delay in your shots as you had to pull the trigger all the way to get there. Meaning, wherever it is set at for how far you have to pull the trigger to get there is where the system will consider a 100% pull? If I worded that correctly. lol One more way I could say it, could you go into that setting and slightly just barely touch the triggers and set it there and then go into a driving game and get full gas at that amount of trigger pull? Or a shooter and get a shot right when you touch the trigger? Even then I realize if you want finer control of the gas in the driving games then you would want the full 100%, that was just another way of saying what I was thinking. lol
Hey, yeah you can change the trigger deadzones on a per game basis. So you could bring the full range down to where it'll register a full press when just barley pulling it. The reason to calibrate the triggers first though is a lot of Ally's won't register 100%. So even with a full press, sometimes it'll only register 90% or so. I found this out on 2 separate Ally's I had, and then a lot of comments on other videos I have where people are experiencing the same thing. After you calibrate them though, then you could just go into the game profile and adjust the trigger deadzone for that game down. Then you'll get a much shorter press for it to activate. Hope the info helps :)
Fun device to play around with but seriously the number of updates is just crazy. The last two days I think all I've done is discover and download updates.
Just got my rog ally yesterday! I’m not even done with your video and I’m already loving it. Thanks for the big help. BRB I need to do another update lol. Btw you got my sub for your channel 💯

With all the kicking updates and kick this and that, I wish to thank you as you have stopped me from wanting this type of machine/system.
It is actually crazy how far gaming has come, that I can bootup skyrim and play it on what is effectively a PSP. I built my first PC to play skyrim in 2011, and it was £1000 lol
Thank you for all of your videos on the ROG Ally. Helped me a lot after I've purchased mine. I do have a question. Do you think the manual profiles in Armoury Crate (more specifically, the 18W one) are still relevant? Is that still the sweet spot or we should stick with the pre-defined profiles?
Hey, I looked it up and it looks like you can add it with command prompt. Here is a video I found of what to do. ua-cam.com/video/pBr8p-xkzcc/v-deo.html
This is a perfect guide. I personally still don't buy one, but this video comprehensively explains what should I expect from a Windows operating game console. Thanks!
Nice one and thank you. I've had the rog ally since launch and just out of boredom, I applied some of these tips Esp the image sharpening and my games now look awesome!!! Thanks!!!!!
Great video! In AMD Adrenalin I don’t have the option to check for updates and that my driver is up to date. I’m not sure why Adrenalin is not giving me an option to update or check for updates. 26:31
Hey, I'm running the unofficial drivers which is why I have the option. If the Asus drivers are working well then it's probably not worth installing the latest ones from AMD. I have a video on how to install the latest drivers from AMD if you are interested though: ua-cam.com/video/lT7NdZRMQe4/v-deo.html.
Fantastic video! Glad you put the amd image sharpening comparisons in the video. Makes a big difference. Is anything like that available for the steam deck oled?
There are scaling options that include sharpening on Steam Deck, but the resolution has to be below 800p and I found it's not worth it IMO. I prefer to just run 800p with a 45FPS cap on most games, then adjust the graphics settings to make sure it maintains 45FPS.

Awesome video as always! Do you know of a way to disable the touch screen while in a game? My large thumbs tend to hit the screen at times causing unwanted inputs.
Thanks! I don't know of a way to disable the touchscreen. I don't think they'll add that either, mainly because someone could accidentally disable it that isn't familiar with technology and think the device stopped working. It's something I would like too as well, but I just don't think we'll see it.
one problem I have had with the Rog Ally is that twice it has reverted to non tablet mode for no reason. It happens when it goes into hibernate or extreme hibernate mode. I disabled them to hopefully stop it from happening again.
very interesting and extremely helpful stuff for new users like me. MUCH appreciated. I wanted to add that with the latest updates, many of the settings you suggest are already done by default. I think Asus is cheating from you video xD Thanks again and subscribed for future tips as well.
Thank you! I just got the rog ally myself. Perfect! Can u make a guide specially for Manual Mode Profile how to setup the fan curves (especially for latest BIOS) and Wattage used? Would love a dedicated guide for these.
Hey, in Manual mode the fans will be pretty loud. They bumped them up to really high levels a while back. I hope the fix it at some point. There is a program that I use to bypass this called G-Helper if you're interested I have a video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/CyFQUacAIf8/v-deo.html
Yeah watched it just now, thanks. Any suggestion of better profile to make and to set the fan curve? Im new to this so im not sure what fan curve is best to setup.@@filt3rless
@@xseiggaming There isn't really a way to set custom watts in Armoury Crate without having the really aggressive fan curve. If you do end up using G-Helper then you don't want to check "Apply Custom Fan Curve" as that will resort to what AC uses. In G-Helper you'll want to start in the mode you want to set a profile for (something I missed in the video). So you can select "Balanced" and then click the + to add a custom profile and go up to 20W safely. Then for Turbo in G-Helper you can do anything from 20W - 30W. The default Performance power setting of Armoury Crate works pretty well and is quiet, so you can use that if you're not wanting to do G-Helper. Or even try the manual mode in Armoury Crate. There just isn't a way to have quiet fans when using Armoury Crate.
purchased ally yesterday but out of the box left stick is only going up & down no left & right there is no effect. done factory reset updated everything but still the same issue any idea.? please help
Is there any way to set screen at 40hz like steam deck because the only options we have is 120hz and 60hz , and we shoud know the 40hz 40fps is smoother than 60hz 40fps
Hey, you'll always want to use 120Hz. The Ally has something called FreeSync Premium, which allows the display to match the FPS. So if you cap the FPS to 50Hz, it automatically changes the display instantly. This is why you can have the frame rate fluctuate and it feels smooth on the Ally. Since the Steam Deck doesn't have this, that's why it's better to have a solid FPS on the Steam Deck. On the Ally though, that's the magic of VRR is you don't have to worry about it. What I'd do is adjust the watts down until you're at the FPS / battery drain level you want. Also you don't want to use 60Hz on the Ally because it stops something called LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) from working. LFC will give you what looks like FreeSync all the way down to 30FPS. Without LFC, it'll look really bad when you go below 48FPS.
im planning on getting one and do a dual boot (ubuntu & windows) on it, it is as easy as doing it on normal laptop ? also any advice after dual booting ubuntu on ally ?
Now about the sd card 😂 I just got mine in earlier today and have an sd card because I don’t wanna take a risk an take apart my ally so what should I do should I be good on putting my sd card inside it without it getting damaged
Thanks! It's called the "Microsoft Designer Keyboard". It's on Amazon, Bestbuy, Etc. It's a really thin profile/small keyboard which is what I like about it :)
Hey, I'd check the microsoft store to see if there is an update for the AMD software. It's really a headache with windows competing against Asus for driver installs. One of the many flaws of windows. Even on my G14 laptop I have windows overriding drivers that I installed, causing issues.
So i just got my ally and was doing the steps in the video and got to the core isolation step. When I go to open the page for core isolation I get a pop up that says Page not available. Any idea what is going on with this? I looked it up and had some people saying there was something turned off in BIOS that i needed to turn back on? Should I do that?
Amazing guide! Just curious, why don't you like RSR? Seems in some games this boosts FPS substantially and I can barely notice the visual quality difference.
Hey thanks! The reason I don't use it is it's not consistent. Some games have huge performance hits with RSR like Starfield. Also, the games have to be launched below native resolution to work. And in games like Diablo 4, or other "windowed fullscreen" games, it doesn't work unless you set the desktop resolution to 900p or less. It's just a bit of a pain to use IMO and I prefer RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening). It works with 0 performance impact and it works at all resolutions (1080p, 900p, etc). However, I know a lot of people like the RSR quality over the sharpened look RIS gives. So if you like it, I say keep using it :)
I bought my ally z1 extreme from Best Buy open box they only had a good condition one so I asked if I could see it and it was missing just the charger which I bought one the ally was in perfect condition not a mark on it. I upgraded the nvme to 2 tb 2 days after I got it I love it since I have been wanting to play some pc games that are not available for Xbox and some games I like to play but now I can play when not at home
Any idea why armory crate resets my fps limiter once I leave a game? Or even after a restart? All other settings stay except the fps limiter gets disabled once I leave the game and try to come back.

Not a new Ally user but this video is awesome
Now about the sd card 😂 I just got mine in earlier today and have an sd card because I don’t wanna take a risk an take apart my ally so what should I do should I be good on putting my sd card inside it without it getting damaged
the real time monitor for me ONLY has the box and i ALSO dont have "CPU boost" as an option in the command center edit menu
How long is the 4th restart meant to take? Cause I think mine is taking abnormally long.
Hi great super helpful video.
do you have a link where I can find the keyboard you use please
Thanks! It's called the "Microsoft Designer Keyboard". It's on Amazon, Bestbuy, Etc. It's a really thin profile/small keyboard which is what I like about it :)
Hello, my AMD Software version does not have the update option. How can I fix that? It says launch version :(
Great guide! It's saying my windows has been updated so the AMD software is out of sync. How do I update AMD?
All other settings stay except the fps limiter gets disabled once I leave the game and try to come back.
thank you I have my ally since a long time and you helped me discover a lot of usefull tips
Thank you! Really helped me get started without any issues 👊
Thanks! Glad the video helped you out :) 👊
