This program is going to change the rog ally scene so much. Ive only tested with only 6 cores and the gpu seems to ramp up a bit better in starfield. Pretty happy so far :)
Thanks for sharing. This is gonna be fun to mess around with to get the most out of the ROG Ally. Such a great handheld. This is really gonna make it my go to handheld.
You might want to mention that in Armory Crate to set AC to the windows power management option. If you don't AC and UTU will fight over power management.
Love the videos, been on the channel since 2017 for the early launch box days. Can you do an ULTIMATE setup with a custom windows like Tiny or Ghost(prefer ghost lol), handheld control panel, utu and big box? I think that would apply to ALL handhelds and would really give people who aren't PC savvy a step by step guide on how to get the MOST console like experience out of their handheld. Love ya again, keep up the great work!
In my country pre-order start 27 june, and i can't wait to get mine on september.. But why the long wait.. Watching your video will prep me well when i get my hands on
This is sick. Just the RivaTuner quick access is worth it alone as I'm not really happy with Asus' own FPS limiter since it doesn't function unless it's set before you open a game.
Might also be worth mentioning that the fps limiter only works for exclusive full screen, if the game only supports fullscreen (windowed) you’re out of luck
ETA prime, I live in North Carolina as well so shouts out to you. Could you please make a video of what equipment you would use to start off a youtube channel? Maybe even do the equipment on tiers? A video on how you would go about it if you had to start over again or how the process works to create content?
@Flash6920 i can answer that. It all depends on you. You have to think what kind of channel you want to make, then you can customize your stuff. Good gear is great but anything that work is fine. I saw a Streamer / UA-cam have a old Pc, he cant run recordings because it will cause lot of lag. He end up using phone to capture everything he play, and a mirror stick to monitor for webcam. Lot of people still watch him because he has good content
so whats stopping you doing the same thing via the armory, set it at 28 W custom profile , and then set the FPS. I get that the armory you have to make custom profiles to do it, vs just do it on the fly i guess thats the only positive
Hey dude cool video. Im just looking for info to buy or pass? Are you experiencing any crash or freezes? Does these tips and tricks help? Thanks in advance
Adaptive FPS works like Radeon Chill (but works properly with controller input), so when no user input is detected, the minimum FPS value is set, and when user input is detected, the max FPS limit will be applied. I found it useful to save power with instances where high FPS isn’t needed, so I added it to the application.
Did you disabled armory crate for testing this tool? Or disabled the quick tools from armory crate? I tried an another tools but they keep crashing with armory running in the background.
I downloaded the utility its not working the way it did for you I had to use the right joystick as the mouse the d pad just allowed me to see more options how do you change the color from black and white letters
can this software be used to Desktops? Cause it seems so easy to use RTSS and its very useful to have access to all these options at Laptops/Desktops too!
Just installed on my Aya2 (6800U). Mostly just works :) However, I keep accidentally turning the wifi off. The wifi toggle is the first thing in the list and is immediately select, so if you are moving the stick to figure out where you are at, the wifi gets toggled. My only other issue is that the mouse emulation doesn't automatically turn off in games like AyaSpace.
The thing that i think isnt being clarified when it comes to the chit chat regarding gaming handhelds is that its a matter of convenience and that the majority of 'mobile' circumstances will actually have access to power...and what gaming handhelds should actually be emphasing is plugged in performance with workable battery performance being secondary. The most intensive computing for consumer use is gaming...even video rendering is simply a matter of waiting a little while which for almost everyone should never be issue.
I think Handheld Companion should do a better job at that, since this doesn't have controller configuration but Handheld Companion does. Though I can't say for sure since I don't have an x86 handheld.
What adjustments are needed for WWE2K23 I get a lot of stuttering on my Ally. Please help me fix this thank you so much as an Ally owner you’re content has helped me more and more.
ROG ALLY: Setting control mode to Windows mode lets you have full freedom of Wattage up to 60w. The only thing missing in that mode is fan control. This is almost super useful, but without fan controll, the fans stay at 20% even at 85c. I hope they add fan control. ASUS power management is a stuttery mess and I would love to fully circumvent it.
Have you try to setup your own curve with G helper on a custom power profile? I'm not sure how AC will react tho. I think all the power user tools are conflicting with windows' priority system ATM... It's hard to get a good custom experience on the device. if only Asus could have done good work and integrate all of these functions OTB in AC...
man this device is attracts me more than the steamdeck and i own a deck already. the fact that you can do windows and install other windows games and apps is just appetizing to me. with the deck i have linux but i dislike it alot. i should have waited up instead of buying my deck. only if installing windows were easy on my deck i would do it in a heartbeat but too bad that you need to install drivers and what have you as well while with the ally its all pre installed. you just need to upgrade your software.
Actually depending on how you use your Windows the Ally's Windows 11 is quite painful...
Рік тому+4
I have both steam deck and ROG Ally , if I would need to pick only one I would choose the Steam Deck , the fact that you have a native 800p screen helps much more for the games I play to feel smooth even if I have to limit the FPS , on Windows the FPS limit does not really work as on Steam deck and for exmemple I have much better time with Snowrunner on Steam Deck with battery over 3 hours , compared to unstable performance on windwos on ROG Ally and only max 90 minutes maybe
Looks like manual mode won't allow the app to take control of power management. Windows mode won't allow fan control so you'll always get thermal throttled. Basically useless at this point
@onsh it works for me . Using manual mode for fan control and x86 handled the rest. Only issue was gpu freq stays at what you set as until a reboot. Besides Asus put out a new fan curve for turbo mode so it's not like it's much of a issue anymore
Igpu statsuc clock is broken. If you turn it on, you cant turn it off. Be double sure that the app isnt set to open on boot otherwise you might beock your device
So doing this and setting the FPS to 60 and watts to 18 locks it at 6w. Gpu usage drops to 0% and cpu is around 10% at a speed of 700. Disabling those options then changes nothing and I have to restart. Does it every single time.
I installed the program yesterday after seeing the video about it. It worked fine but when I didn't use my Azus for 6 hours it started to have issues. I tried to use it right now but it freezes then goes back to normal then the screen goes black and shuts down. I'm not sure what to do to fix this
The problem is I've just tried the software and now after removing the program my Rog Ally still stucked at the settings, is there any way to reset to defaults?
does power limit work with rog ally original charger while in docking mode? because im mostly using it in docking mode , and while in docking mode max tdp i can get is 25w
How do you completely get rid of this? I made the terrible mistake of lowering my apu wattage to 15 watts and now can’t reopen. Even after reinstalling and using armory crates turbo mode, I’m stuck in 15 watts and hope I didn’t just brick my device
There's nothing for GPU scaling? Apparently that's needed, at least on the Steam Deck, to deal with those black screens when loading newly installed games...I have to remote into Team Viewer just to see the actual game scree and change the res so it shows up on my Deck.
Cool tool, but i saw that you are not using the "Auto" preset for the Video Memory, why not ? i have heared that that will improve performance slightly
I tried Auto and was getting terrible performance in games like CyberPunk2077 and Halo MCC. Setting 4GB improved performance quite a bit. Setting 8GB didn’t improve average, but drastically helped with stuttering in game from 0.1% lows.
Windows is to some extent a terrible option for gaming. The OS is designed to even out processing as much as possible between running processes, and its also a very service oriented system with a minimum of 30 services running headless in the background. Most of it stuff that you dont really need for gaming (be it locally or remotely). I would love to see that "hacker" cut-down version of Windows (called "Tiny11") on the Ally. There is a version that basically strips windows of all the bloat, which tends to increse performance by at least 30% out of the box. When you add tuning to that again, the stock ally should deliver more than the extreme running standard windows (or at least the same). I would also be interested in seeing how Batocera runs directly on the iron, preferably with some tuning.
When you fine tune stuff it's quite surprising what you can get on these handhelds. On my GPD Win4 I can get 2 hours of battery in Spiderman and it runs great at medium settings. I's sure anything that runs in Retroarch would work fine on 2 cores and going down to 5-6w easily.
You channel is becoming more and more important for Ally owners. Thanks ETA Prime.
I hope he sees this and does more expimental videos

Wow didn’t know they had this software. Keep these updates coming for the Ally

This is great to know! Appreciate for sharing this to the handheld gaming community- more specifically the ASUS ROG Ally
We need benchmarks! I wonder if that clock/power limit can truly push the APU harder than the built-in options.
Yep, really want to see a video on that.
I've pre-ordered the 2023 GPD WinMax2. Something like this will come in handy.
Just got my Rog ally, and loving it!!
Why didnt Asus make software like this on release
Love these armory crate/ayaspace alternative videos!
You might want to mention that in Armory Crate to set AC to the windows power management option. If you don't AC and UTU will fight over power management.
Idk how to use this. AC still somehow overrides anything I do in UTU.
@melxb AC= Armoury Crate, UTU=Universal Tuning Utility
What do you use for fan curve ?
This what do you use for fan curve
But it's missing the most important function....the auto tdp, after that,it's a very nice program for the handhelds🔥
Great review. It's amazing that a handheld is now as powerful as gaming laptops.
Man! This is extremely helpful! Thanks brother
Thank you for this. Gonna download it now!

This is sick. Just the RivaTuner quick access is worth it alone as I'm not really happy with Asus' own FPS limiter since it doesn't function unless it's set before you open a game.
Does the temperature limit only downclock or does it adjust fan speeds?
Might also be worth mentioning that the fps limiter only works for exclusive full screen, if the game only supports fullscreen (windowed) you’re out of luck
wtf why is that
What about MSI afterburner, does the limiter works with it and RivaTuner?
Could you make a video using it on the Deck and let us know how it perform/work there?
Wish AC would have an option to disable CPU cores, change max CPU/GPU clock and autotdp.
Thank you for the great videos.
Can this work on laptops? Because this will be a very nice tool for gaming laptops.
Não jogue video games aproveite a vida
It works, at least some of settings.
they have other tools for ryzen based laptops iirc
Have you ever heard of a desktop-only program or a laptop only program?
Thanks for the link!

Can you PLEASE look into using G-helper in conjunction with Handheld Companion as a total replacement to Armoury Crate??
so whats stopping you doing the same thing via the armory, set it at 28 W custom profile , and then set the FPS. I get that the armory you have to make custom profiles to do it, vs just do it on the fly i guess thats the only positive
Could there be conflicts with the Crate app? Hopefully works better when out of beta.
Hope the next update will bring per configuration for each games/software.
Not sure if its because of my latest update but LB+RB+D pad up doesn't bring up the overlay.
Do we have to disable armory crate, because I feel that this might cause issues if both apps are operating.
Which is better, this or Project SBC you showed a couple of months ago?
What about AutoTDP?
Can you do a video on handheld companion too?
What about the fans? Would you recommend setting a customer fan curve in AC then use this to change the power and stuff

Does this override the stock tools? My fans seem to run right, just wondering about the tdp and RSR
What settings would you set every setting too for Diablo 4
For the Ally, would this conflict with the build in applications like Command Center, MyAsus and Armoury Crate?
You can put Armory into a mode that let's windows control the power management. When you do that it will let the other program control all that.
I'm using alongside the manual mode in armory crate for fan control.
Looks like manual mode won't allow the app to take control of power management. Windows mode won't allow fan control so you'll always get thermal throttled. Basically useless at this point

Will 28 watts fry my sd card? I already ruined one sadly and want the sweet spot between performance at 60 and having that available storage
can you use this to force jedi survivor to run at 60 fps on the rog ally ^^
Can you figure out how to fix the sd sandisk problem?😊

Will it conflict with amoury crate when the two are open at the same time?
Igpu statsuc clock is broken. If you turn it on, you cant turn it off. Be double sure that the app isnt set to open on boot otherwise you might beock your device

because im mostly using it in docking mode , and while in docking mode max tdp i can get is 25w
RAM usage of these tools would be good to know.
Is there an auto button for people that just want it to run smooth and have better battery performance
Will this help with possible thermal throttling issues?

How do you completely get rid of this? I made the terrible mistake of lowering my apu wattage to 15 watts and now can’t reopen. Even after reinstalling and using armory crates turbo mode, I’m stuck in 15 watts and hope I didn’t just brick my device

Cool tool, but i saw that you are not using the "Auto" preset for the Video Memory, why not ? i have heared that that will improve performance slightly

No core or cpu frequency limitation...
Emulation with 2 cores would be interessting. And battery life test
Also some indie titles would run too. Last night i tried Blasphemous and huntdown, with a old laptop AMD E 450 And was surprised by the performance

28w is crazy on a handheld, rip battery life
When its plugged to a chrager even 40-50w doesnt effect the battery at all
Not opening when pressing the LB + RB + Dpad up.
But does it do fan curves?
No
