Apparently this is my second time hearing this song 🤦🏾♀️
My dad lost his wife of 44 years 5 years ago. He died last month 1.5 hours after he turned age 92. I cranked up his old ford ranger and this song was playing in the cd player.
Vern Gosdin is a Country Music Icon.
A true classic, sang by one of the greatest.
Vern was simply known as The Voice, he had so many great songs. But my favorite is a Gospel song perfect for Easter called Love Rolled Away the Stone.

I had a 1984 Toyota car and I was doing contracting in eight different states. I would cruise down the road listening to Vern through the night. His songs hit home because I really was lonely. But I had to keep going because I had a special needs child and I needed the extra money for medical stuff. It was the first job where I made good money ...$70-$100/hr. so I did it. Vern just knew how to express his loneliness and it seemed to help when I listened to him. I thank God it was for only a few years and my little boy is 41 years old now and getting by real well.

I always considered this and George’s He Stopped Loving Her Today as two of country’s saddest songs.
Love this song he is known as the voice. He is one of my favorite artist of all time
This is such a sad song but the words are so profound. Puts a simple argument in perspective when you talk to someone that's lost his wife. A great story song by one of the best voices in country music.
I get goosebumps as soon as I hear Vern start singing this song. Since losing my wife this song hits me like a punch in the gut.

That just about does it , is another great song that Vern does. Side story, I was sitting in a bay talking to an old man about my age. He was tolling me how his wife had recently passed due to lung cancer, and someone played this song on the Juke Box. I could not believe how coincidental that was.
What most people need is to have faith,hope and most of all someone to love in life and love them back.

NOT to be critical, but you kinda missed the point/meaning of the song title. "You don't know lonely 'til it's chiseled in stone" means you really don't know "loneliness" until someone has died and their name is "chiseled in stone" on a Tomb/Headstone. A VERY POWERFUL song. AND, i LOVE watching your videos!

I don't believe you've listened to any Gene Watson. He's another who was at the top of the country music gold back in the 70s and 80s with 5 #1 hits and over 20 top tens. My favorite being "Fourteen Carat Mind". ♥
