  • The Ford F-150 is the best selling 'car' in the world - but is it deserving of such an accolade? Join Mat as he reviews the F150 Lariat SuperCrew version, which is armed with a 2.7-litre V6 engine and two turbochargers! It has an output of 325hp, gets 520Nm of torque and goes from 0-60mph in around six seconds! But is it really worth that $47,000 price tag? Let's see!

Adjustable pedals! That's a flipping great idea! When you are tall and lanky like me the pedals are always too close even with the seat full back in some cars. And even when seats do adjust back far enough the steering wheel is often out of reach (notable exceptions: most BMWs, Mercedes C and E class, Mondeo Mk IV). Wish more cars here had adjustable pedals!

People in America drive trucks now because of several factors.
    1) Higher ride height. Allows you to see your surroundings better. Also allows you to go off road better without having to worry about dragging the ground.
    2) Modern trucks are just as nice inside if not even better than cars. And in 4 door models, there's generally more room. And for full-sized SUVs like Yukons, Suburbans, Explorers, Expeditions, Escalades, and Navigators, you have all kinds of additional room.
    3) And with trucks, pickup trucks specifically, you always have that bed available to haul large things if you ever find yourself making that impulse buy of a large TV.
But the main difference between American roads and roads in Europe in general is that traffic lanes in America are 12 ft wide, and in Europe they are just 9 ft wide on average.

The smaller engines are fun and all, but if you haul heavy loads and keep the truck for long, you'll quickly notice how quickly these smaller engines will ware down.
The V8 may not be as fuel-efficient, but it's definitely the more reliable option and you can get loads more power if you decide to modify it.
The 5.0 is the same Coyote motor that's in Mustang GT so aftermarket support is HUGE, replacement parts are plentiful and cheap and people know how to tune these engines.

    • @smgs921

I bought a new 2017 F150 STX and still have it! I normally change cars every 12 months but this one is so good I can't bare to trade it in. It has the 2.7 V6 with 330HP... it really moves! and I get 24mpg (in the states - who have smaller gallons than the UK, incase you didn't know). My 2017 STX has only covered 28K miles and still look like new. As for depreciation - I've lost less than $10K over 5 years which is insanely good! I paid $35,000 and my trade in is $26,000! I had it valued 2 weeks ago. It drives better than my wife's GLE Mercedes! Best purchase I've ever made.

They last 300k miles and more, and do everything better than any other brand which is why more Americans buy them. My ‘19 came with a $16k rebate in September, by December you could get up to $20k off, so a low to sub $30k vehicle that will last.

I think people from the outside of North America looking in tend to think of our pickups as huge tradesman vehicles we try to use for everything and they did start out that way, particularly on farms. What you're missing is we pulled away from the station wagons we always had in favor of pickups. Station wagons are versatile vehicles but I wouldn't want to take one to a difficult to reach camping spot, or have to rent a truck because I can only fit so much in the back of my wagon. When you really break it down, especially looking at older American wagons and pickups they were very comparable engine and economy wise. Our pickups are just family wagons with a separate, more capable trunk. A large portion of people have grown up with pickups in North America and the bumpy-ish ride you don't even really notice. The long brake is because when they bite quick it can be jarring in a tall, long, vehicle. Long pedal is much easier to modulate safely, especially while towing. Our roads are bigger, distances between places are longer, real several thousand mile road trips are a thing because America is a lot bigger than most people realize. Having all your bags, cooler, tent, stove, heater, all in the bed is very nice and out of the way. And with a bed cover or canopy it's even more versatile. I get that it could see odd to see so many but it's just a versatile family hauler. A typical American home probably has a pickup or large SUV and commuter car. We, for the most part, also try to make economical choices with our engines and configuration and which vehicle to drive. A v8 Mercedes estate may be more fun to drive but isn't half as useful and probably gets similar fuel economy to the average pickup. Just my two cents

In nearly 3 years and 45k not a single problem. Hauling Grammy and the grandkids it just absolutely perfect, running to the hone center not a problem at all. A honest 20.4 MPG if you drive her easy I can get 23 MPG on the highway, I’ve only owned average vehicles in the past, my wife if 38 years and I rate this vehicle as our best ever and she does like driving it or being chauffeured.

The trouble with these "crew cab" trucks is the hopelessly small load carrying capacity. For comparison, a bmw 520 touring has more boot capacity - 1700 littes (with the seats down) than the standard size bed in this "truck" - 1500 litres. They are a jack of all trades, master of none, by trying to be a family car, off road vehicle and work van all in one.

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 Рік тому

The 6.5 foot bed is a short bed and this is the most popular selection. A 5.5' bed is not at all popular and 8' beds are more popular on the 250s and above. It also appears to have a low volume because they only count to the top of the bed rails (22"). You are only limited to that volume if you have a tonneau cover. When the bed is open your volume is only limited by the configuration of what you are carrying. Even with a 6.5' bed you can easily carry a couple of bikes and a canoe/kayak or a 4 wheeler or a couple of dirt bikes.
The half ton pickups are primarily recreational use vehicles. Anyone towing heavy (more than you are allowed to to in the UK) very often or hauling much over 1,000 kg/2,200 lbs is going to go for a Super Duty. Even as the lightest full size truck an F150 will still out tow and out haul any family car/SUV and be more comfortable on long trips than a lot of luxury cars.
As far as comparisons with work vans, the trades that need a van (plumbers, painters etc) buy a van. Those that need to be able to carry a lot of weight (drywall guys, landscapers) or drag around heavy equipment (excavators) go with a F250 to F750 in the Ford line. You can't run a bed mounted hitch in a van.

The problem with Greta is that her words are not her own. She is being used by her parents. Because when asked fairly simple questions regarding her crusade, she doesn't have an answer to them. So she seems very scripted in her delivery. In her famous "How dare you?" speech, look closely...she's reading from a prepared speech. But when journalists asked her some easy questions when she sat on a panel, she just pushed off answering them to someone else on the panel. Which tells me she either A) doesn't actually believe what she's selling, or B) is being used as a sympathetic child tool by some adults, most likely her parents.
