- 2021 Ford F-150 vs 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 Longhorn review by The Straight Pipes. The Ford F-150 is putting down 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque from a 3.5L Ecoboost V6 and the Ram 1500 is putting down 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque from a 5.7L V8. At $87,775 CAD for the Ford and $94,600 CAD for the Ram, which one would you take?

The price of these things is just insane.
If you're living in Australia you will know what is really insane car price. These trucks could cost double price
Think about how nice they are, how much they can do.
Highest trim fully loaded vehicles are expensive. Crazy
Some people would rather spend $70k on a fancy truck than a Mercedes or BMW
Yes, a base level Mercedes or BMW...
wow, there once was a time ( 7 years ago) where you could buy a full , top trim Ford for 60K CAD, and now look at the prices
My 2010 raptor was less than that brand new 🤣
Great video like usual. But as a truck owner I could care less for a lot of these gimmicks. Start up animation, a tail gate that raises itself, electric running boards, fob controlled air suspension… these are all things that will just end up costing you more money in the long run.
I agree with you 100%. Time for auto makers to quit trying to make a truck be a cadillac. I buy a truck to haul, pull, and carry. I don't need a cadillac for tgat.
@@douglasmcdonald7460 you can still get that though if you want, there are a lot of trims to choose from.
@@CautiousDavid yeah dude I guess you are correct to an extent. But the problem is that they make a lot of these bullshit options standard even on the base models. So they force you to spend more. You can’t even touch a base model 2500/250 4x4 truck for less than 50k. What average worksman can afford that without being at a $800 a month payment?
@@michaellarrick8881
Its bs for sure. Regular people are stuck buying 7 year old trucks.
Agree. The only “extra” feature id like is Bluetooth/apple car play, but that’s more of a safety feature at this point and should be standard across the board.
This is the silliest truck review I've ever seen and I'm totally here for it.
I work at a Ford Dealership & we have people literally come in and purchase the FX4 stickers just to put on their non-Fx4 F-150s

I’ve owned (3) f150’s: two ecoboost and (1) 5.0. Just bought my first Ram and I am hooked. The Hemi 5.7 drive experience is what hooked me. I leave for work early so I can take the scenic route. I used to listen to podcasts on my 30 minute drive when I had the Ford. Now, I listen to the rumble of the Hemi.
Same here, 3 F150's same as yours, took the chance on a RAM hemi 5.7 Laramie Night Edition, wow, what a drive differnce, and the fit and finish is just so much nicer. One thing I will miss though, the twin Turbo towed 13,000 lbs effortlessly and regular driving I averged 19 MPG, so far the RAM with the 5.7 I am barely averaging 16 😒 but the handling, the smoothness and the total feel is worth the extra dollar, plus I don't miss my problamatic 10 speed transmission.
I am in the exact same boat. Been a Ford guy for years and years. Thinking about moving to the RAM before the Hemi is gone. How has yours been holding up?

Love your reviews. You guys have really developed a unique style and I look forward to your uploads. Much love from Nova Scotia.
I'm a truck guy and I prefer my gauge cluster to be analog. If the infotainment has a cool start up animation that would be nice.
I have a 2015 RAM Rebel with the air suspension and the side compartments on the bed. With 136000 miles have had no significant problems with the truck. Love the side compartments on the bed. Great place to store all the junk that would normally have to be in the cab making a mess. Also love the air suspension especially when I can lower it to get out. I'm in my late 60's so my days of jumping in and out are over.
As always, your automobile reviews are most informative, entertaining and sublime!
This eTorque is a mild hybrid system . You won't feel it's affect on highway speeds. I think its primary function is to smooth out the start stop feature.
Or to save fuel, they didn’t once mention fuel efficiency
You are correct in the use of e-Torque.
@@emrefifty5281 to be fair it's not much better fuel economy than without the etorque system

@@Kevinator1996 Honestly most of these fuel saving systems are pointless on Trucks. Specially given how people tend to drive them.

My previous F150 had a perfect arm rest to store a pistol.. its really the only reason I miss that truck as neither my Challenger or Charger have been so considerate.
I normally dont write comments on youtube. But wow.. incredible work with comparing and reviewing the both cars. One of the best car review videos I have ever watched.
I love the RAM but it really needs a facelift.
Great assessments. However at this point many of these comparisons are a competition between which manufacture can provide the most features in the top trims. I feel like this would be better suited for reviews. Comparisons should be apples to apples (as best as possible) for the cost. Ultimately the personal preferences make more of an impact in what the market wants vs what can be offered. Might as well compare prototypes if this is how these will go. Regardless, love your content!!
Mindbending to see where pickups have come from. Imagine the astonishment of a Ford or Dodge development team from 1950 transported to view this video.
Let alone telling them that you are going to watch it on a phone.
Especially when you consider that a Ford truck in the 50s was like $1200.
@@williamreinhard adjusted for inflation, you be surprise how much that is.
@@goingindieEN $13,500. Not quite what these trucks cost...

Truck guy here. I own a 2015 Platinum FX4 fully loaded with 3.5 Ecobeast. Best truck i ever owned. Ford has always been the innovator. I tried to find 2015 comparison video. Power running boards, power pedals, all wheel drive, rear locker, built in trailer brake controller, twin panel moon roof, heated cooled massaging seats, 360 degree camera, multi colored mood lighting, full led"s, mirror spotlights, power down tailgate, all aluminum body, etc. People can't believe my truck is a 2015 ! The other manufacturers have come a long way, but will always love my Fords. Looking to get a new F150 Platinum within the next year or two. Would like to see them put the 3.5 ecoboost high out put in the Platinum. Thanks for the great comparison video.
I ordered a 2022 F150 Lariat with all premier packages and B&O Unleashed. Arrived in May. A bumpy ride and potholes and rough pavement were very noticeable. After 2 weeks I traded for Ram 1500 Laramie and the ride quality is no comparison. I was surprised by the difference. I was hopeful I would love the F150, but I didnt.
I did exactly opposite in 2019, because number of issues I had with Ram's electronics was a turn off including mediocre towing experience, crazy gas mileage with my 28ft 7200lbs Travel Trailer RV. F150's AutoPilot self braking and active collision alert saved me so many times, which also dropped my insurance premiums by almost 20% compared to RAM in 2019 which still doesn't have that feature. Just booked 2023 F150 Lariat 3.5L Full Hybrid with all enhanced safety features (minus Blue Cruise), can't wait, my family loves it and that's the primary use.
Sounds like we have almost the same truck. How is your RAM doing now? Still liking it? Any issues?
Another detail full and fun review guys. Always enjoy these.👍
The ram bed EXTENDER and the ram boxes are crazy usefully in daily use
at the cost of a smaller, narrower bed, which for me cant haul anything of size
Doesn’t affect hauling for me. Love my ram box’s and wouldn’t buy a truck without me I have Ram 👍👍for that design option!
@@MadJawa889 Yea Ram boxes are worth it. If you need the width above the wheel wells then you know what to get. If you haul stuff that would fit between the wheel humps then the Rambox works. Ton of lockable and easily accessible storage. I get tired of fetching smaller stuff out of a traditional bed.
Those ram boxes are a game changer, throw muddy boots in there, I keep my tackle box in there or hockey pucks in winter, ratchet straps, tools, overalls
etc. never had a problem with the bed size personally
The fact is any truck person would be thrilled with either of these. I wound up with a well equipped 2022 RAM with a base "Sherrod custom" package a few weeks ago for one big reason. The dealer came to the table ready to play. Full retail value on my trade and came down significantly of sticker, threw in a spray liner, steps and other goodies along with a lifetime powertrain warranty absolutely free of charge. In this case, the dealer earned the business, made the difference.
With the prices so high for new trucks, picking which one to buy is harder than ever. but I think the key comparison comes down to which one is running perfectly with 200,000miles, 10 years later. I see very few Rams (gas engines) running or they are falling apart. Seems that I see a lot more old F150s on the road. Comparing any NEW truck is tough, as we tend to focus only on the bling and the cool stuff. but great video.
I love the F-150's "Sport Mode" animation with the truck on a racetrack, like people are doing that lmao
You’d be surprised how many people build the short bed versions into race trucks. Much faster then you think.

I'm definitely a truck owner, I've only had 1 car in my 62 yrs of life. Always been a Dodge fan from the Dakota to my '07 5.7 Hemi, nothing like the instant power, but I've got to move on from the
low teens for mileage & nearly $95 fill up at the pump.
Carrying my assortment of tools is over with, at 62 & leg issues the lowering front-end of the Dodge might make me reconsider, but the lowering side step of the Ford would be all I need, especially getting into an elevated truck. I find myself now
always using my factory sideboards to get in.
Well done… You’ve been tinkering with your format a bit and this one was real smooth.
Remember they did just hire a new editor or w/e
@@OfficialMarkieB The video definitely seems a lot more well put together..
Not a truck guy and not a fan of button gear selectors, but damn do I love the look of that Ram. Had one as a rental and I was quite surprised at how well it handled. I think it has more defined lines, a less blocky form and think it looks absolutely stunning in that color. Lol and on another note, dyin' at "pew, pew enthusiast" comment.
Just in the market now for a luxury truck. Drove our first limited last night. This video is great. Very well done, and funny! Pew pew 😆👏 thank you 👍
Love the tailgate on the Ram and would really like to see something similar on Ford. That's really all I'd take from the Ram. Driven both with the same engines as in this video and I do enjoy the turbos more. I'd get a tremor package though and remove the stickers and rear tremor badge.
You will hate turbos when it will come to replacing them. Buying them is cheap but the labor to remove engine to replace turbos is insane. Also, the Ford 10 Speed is the most unreliable transmission in the full size pickup segment.
Guys you need do the comparation with Platinum 5.0 V8. This is amazing engine. I got one. Congratulations for the job
Truck guy. Just bought a used 2019 Raptor 2 months ago. I have always been more of a Ford guy, but I love all of those truck bed gimmicks on the Dodge. Come on Ford, time to up your game!
The Ford offers a lot more things, starting with the pro-power on board
Yeah, I'd rather have that over anything that ram offers!
I don't know if you have been living under a rock or not or missing some news, but at the moment, Ford has way more gimmicks on features on their trucks than most others, Pro Power Onboard being the biggest one yet which opens up a whole lobby of things you can do. Ram has nothing close to that, what a tailgate that opens up to the side, or has a cover that any truck has as an option, storage compartment is a plus, but it's not like the F150 doesn't have any either especially with the new Lightning. The lightning on it's own only showed that Ford has stepped up their game way before Ram had even announced they are making a E-truck.
@@raionshishi8290 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Excellent and informative video, and I love the way you guys edit it so that it's like you're talking back and forth. Well done.
Just curious, why was there no mention of the lay flat seats on the f-150?
I sleep in my car a lot of the time. I think that might be one of the determining factors for me. I haven't tried it yet, but if it is as comfortable as many reviewers are saying then it might be enough to sway me.
Better yet is the rear seats for sleeping, you can stretch out almost fully and seat bottom is wide

I picked 2022 F150 Loaded Lariat, 3.5L Powerboost Full Hybrid last week and I LOVE it! Evevry 100kms it shows I drive over 35kms electric and that's awesome, and I guess my savings too, it is encouraging to see that number going up daily until it'll max out, so kind of learning process for me too. That Pro Power 7.2Kw power pack is enough to power my travel trailer for many days. It is semi autonomous drivable so that's a help, will not rely on though, I still like to kave full control on my vehicle rather than a computer.
Can you review a ram 1500 classic single cab? Those things would be awesome to see how modifiable if you can make it into like a modern day muscle truck. Love your stuff Hope to see a review of the ram single cab soon

As a truck person, no, I don't care about how big the LCD screen is in the dash. But my F150 is 16 years old and doesn't have one, so I might be biased on that. Also, yes, people really like the FX4 decal. Even to the point of putting them on regular 4x4 F150s. Personally, I took my FX4 decals off in favor of nice FX4 emblems on the fenders and tailgate.
Recently got my 2021 RAM 1500 with the Hemi E-Torque and Night Edition, and I love it! It’s my first pick up truck, and it does everything I need it to very very well. I liked that this truck review was a bit different than most others online. What I mean by this is that they reviewed them from more of a realistic perspective for how the majority of buyers will ACTUALLY assess these trucks themselves when shopping. Focusing mostly on aesthetic aspects, functionality, their general experience and overall feel of the trucks as most actual buyers of these trucks do. They didn’t get stuck on or focus on technical specs or what each may or may not be capable of because they both obviously are quite capable. Great realistic review @TheStraightPipes !!!
Thanks Lawrence
I was looking for good f150 reviews and finally you guys did one ! I placed an order for the coming f150 tremor and im so excited for all the tech as my last car was a 2012 wrangler with barely any tech in it !

The tremor looks badass
It’s been 5 months… has the factory even begun making it? I’m 1 month out from my order and have heard nothing.
Ford had to shut factory production down.
I ended up getting the lariat powerboost high trim, because the tremor kept getting delayed, actually prefer that i went with the hybrid better as a daily driver
I can't believe yuri didn't talk about the huge touchscreen on the ham :\ holy! Infotainment yuri was having too much fun raising and lowering the ram probably xD !
That looked like a 701A Platinum, It'll have a lot more than what you guys talked about, mainly didn't talk about the over the air updates for sync4, plus Blue cruise, raising the dampened tailgate only 2" will bring it up, Massaging seats in Platinums, King Ranches and Limited standard, Max recline driver and passenger seats(option), there is a lockable fold-flat storage in the back seats as an option (like the SuperDuties), Optional on board scale. I am just saying there are some great features you missed, obviously you cannot hit every single thing, the RAM is a great truck but the 150 tows more while being more fuel efficient, while being the best selling vehicle in America for 40years straight including during Covid.

@@The-fs5wn Yup! He’s a 2008! Got him when right after the recession and government bail out happened for an amazing price! 🙌
@ufoguyspaceman yes the dodge has a nice soft cushy ride, women like that
The dial shifter was the deal breaker for me even tho I love the 5.7 and everything
Why? It cleans the console up so much
loved the video. also, liked and commented for the algorithm!
the 2021 Ram is a 1970s Lincoln Continental on the inside. Trucks really has become the modern day land yacht
I rented one and i thought the ride was too soft and I didn’t like the transmission either. Nice truck tho, good looking too.
I’d prefer analog over a tv screen for gauges. It’s a truck, and I think with all these features trucks aren’t trucky anymore
These features don't make a truck a truck so of course not, a truck is only a truck when it can do things a truck does which these do. These excuses are so overdone.
You can get that option on the f150 aswell
These are both great trucks but I can't wait to see the Rivian. I hope they send one to you guys to review.
I am and truck guy I put 156,000 miles on a 2014 Raptor and 36,000 miles so far on my 2020 Raptor. I LOVE Stickers!! :)
It's not an addition 130 ft/lbs torque in Ram (for some reason) - they engineered it to be replacement torque when motor is spooling - not additive.
Great comparo! '19 Ram classic at my home. I've had 3 F150's ('81,'92,'99). I like the Ram and the Hemi sounds great, overall a great vehicle. The infloor storage is cool and takes a jug of washer fluid perfectly. Gotta say I'd take a Lightning over any truck on the market and really looking forward to see what Ram and Chev/GMC bring to market with EV trucks. Exciting days to come. Thanks guys!
tesla truck looks weird as hell, but once you decide to go electric, you'd be a fool to choose anyone but tesla. they tech is far ahead of the competition. If ram ditches the v8 tesla will be my next purchase.
Electric trucks are the best versions of EVs and of Trucks. The Rivian is proof of that. Really exciting future
I like the ford better and the looks also. I like the brushed aluminum finish vs the chrome and the body colored bumpers.
Hi, I recently drove a V-8 Ram 2018 truck and it was so smooth I would pick the Ram hybrid truck over the F-150. Ty for sharing the video, by for now. ☺️
The Laramie package on the Ram looks so much better than the Limited. And therefore also looks better than the F150. Really would like to see Ram increase the Hemi power. They’ve been at the same HP/torque number for years.
Limited night edition looks the best imo
You mean the Laramie longhorn ? There’s both. That’s what I’m this video.
I have a Laramie, agree with you, wayyy better looking.
Thats why the hemi is one of the most reliable v8s ever built. Tried and true
Agreed!!!
I'd go F-150 all the way
Ram 🐏 is better
@@JesusMartinez-wm4dk you like getting rammed… everybody has their preference.

The F150 (mid size) truck bed is 2 inch longer than the RAM's. As a 6'7" guy that makes a difference for sleeping/camping in the truck bed.
Also, you can have the Ford in double cab 8ft bed, with the RAM you can't.
You guys reviewed 2 trucks in 17 minutes...doug demuros latest review 1 car 32 minutes. You deserve all his subs.
I’m a truck guy, I’d go with the F150 even though I like the Ram looks slightly better. The interior is nicer (more robust) in the RAM, but the Ford has a better more contemporary layout for function. I’d say no to the off-road stickers question. I may be buying a new Raptor and will be choosing the sticker and rear application delete. Between Ram and Ford, I’d be inclined to try out Ram again; but love the door keypad too much, and the Ford lane-centering tech (along with CoPilot) is the final nail in the coffin for Ram. Not to mention the Ford seems to be faster in every scenario that doesn’t include the TRX.
Put mpg is were its at on Ram eco diesel
I want the powerboost from Ford and the 4-link + Air suspension of the ram. All the other stuff is nice to have but I want that combo of sweet power and smooth suspension.
Look on the door plate to get the real towing numbers for any truck. Many options added to not added to a truck will affect the real towing numbers.
I was waiting for this video
I have to go with the Ram because of the lack of a turbocharger. Turbos can get expensive to repair or replace. Ram also has air suspension, tailgate, the Ram boxes and the best interior. Towing is not an issue because once you get over 10,000 lbs in some areas you need a class 1 license.
If it's about cost, air suspension isn't cheap....some would say it's every bit as expensive as turbos. Lol
I'm a silverado guy, yes offroad stickers are very cool. I gotta say ram makes a comfortable truck but I'd have to go with Ford for long term reliability when comparing these 2. And I also like the ram saddle bags but I don't know if it comes on a full sized bed.
silverados are complete garbage
@@toddbob55 um ok.. and what. I got a 2004 original engine and trans. She cruises around just fine and hauls a litteral ton of dirt just fine. Only had to install a new radiator and hoses and the only thing that broke was an alternator and ruined a battery. It's been pretty good and runs just fine.
