- Madonna performing at Live Aid in front of 100,000 people in the John F. Kennedy Stadium, Philadelphia USA on the 13th July, 1985. The event was organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

Madonna in her prime, honestly it doesn't get any better than this

Yes she killed it here.
Global debut at the most famous concert in what would become history.
The DNA of the legendary performer who helped changed the world is right here.
Awesome. Really incredible

she was in her prime in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s
She's the last surviving of the pop megastars of the 80's... long live the Queen!
So true.
Cindy lauper
@@ELMENTOR_ Cindy Lauper is not even close to Madonna's level when it comes to megastar status.
@@Sadistic-Pickle Cindy Lauper was just as big as Madonna in the 80s. Her song "Girls Just want to have fun" has over a billion views on UA-cam. "Time After Time" has half a billion views. Not bad for songs released in the 80s. But Madonna managed to stay relevant all through the 90s where as Cindy Lauper fell off once the 80s were over.
True
Who else is watching this in 2023 and is awestruck..bring back the old Madonna......
Watching in 2024
Say what you want but no one can take away the fact that she sung live, on pitch in total breath control and full of life and energy. She looked beautiful and rocked the stage while taking no prisoners! We see why she's the icon she is to this day!
No she is a sell out for the satanic music industries now who goes with the B's agenda sorry ridicolous n woke .
Not anymore. Now she is Jigsaw
Exactly
On adore !!!
Right, many singers wish they could sound as good as she did that day while dancing around like that!
The 80's....The era of real live performances from both singers and musicians with a crowd enjoying every second of it with no technology disturbances ❤️🙏
Lip syncing was a thing, especially when performing during live TV shows.
Um, that went on in the 1950's, 60's, 70's, & 90's as well, in case you didnt know
Milli Vanilli in the late 80s? Crap went on back then too.
Yeah, bit of a rose tinted view of the 80s there. That said the Boomers still criticised the advent of the synth, they didn’t regard it as a real musical instrument. That’s why I bite my lip when I see some guy on stage with a laptop. Time and tide wait for no man…
I still never understand what is the point of going to a concert and only seeing people holding up phones - why pay all that money when you cannot see over a sea of phones. Why I like going to some of Prince's last concerts where you had to check your mobiles and made for a great concert to be fully enjoyed.
WOW!! Like her or hate her, her ability to sing on pitch without missing a breath whilst doing cardio like that is TRULY IMPRESSIVE! A true legendary performer unmatched today!
What a fantastic year. 1985.
I was 20 years old. Best time of my life.
The Roaring 80s!!!
It was fantastic! Wish I could go back

she's singing, dancing, playing tambourine, doing choreography, talking to audience and being sexy all at the same time. Queen of pop.
Yep! A superstar in the making. She's so real in every way.I love Madonna!

@@chrisi123 She will never be just a nobody! 3:26 left the tambourine, took the mic, did a spin and started singing without hesitation

it was a routine. just watch other live performances from that era (1985).
igualitas a las "cantantes" de mi pais (sarcasmo) estas pendejas de mi pais de creen mas que Madonna y no cantan ni mierda.
I love everything about her here. Her singing, her outfit, her hair, her jewelry, her dancing, her energy. Iconic!!!!🤩
Perfect pop star. Pretty to see and hear.
Pure talent . She co-wrote the song . She sang live . She choreographed her dance routines . She has always been exciting and entertaining to watch . She commands the audience attention whether it’s intentional or not. She has longevity because people can relate and people are always fascinating by her . And she did all of these before social media .
Real talent took real practice, grit, and guts. We've already seen the best humanity has to offer.
One of the reasons why I'm deeply into the music of the 70s and 80s. The last era where people gave their best.
Waht?
The summer of 1984 almost every teenage girl in Los Angeles looked like Madonna which is still something I never saw duplicated that being her IMPACT on everything at that time.
There were wanna be Cyndi Laupers too
My family took a vacation to L.A. for a week in the summer of 1985 --- we went to Disneyland and I swear to God --- EVERY white teenage girl there was dressed like Madonna! I even saw a few of them having impromptu dance contests. It kinda blew my mind because I never saw a music star have that kind of influence over an entire generation before.
I remember girls and Pat Benatar look.

@@hotbrakepads you're absolutely 💯 correct
Her voice and dancing are magnificent!! I think she puts all her energy towards this performance to prove that she can sing...after she was snubbed to be part of We Are the World. I always admire people who uses their experience of rejection and heartaches to make something beautiful for themselves, and Madonna is one of them
Recién me doy cuenta que no la tomaron en cuenta para esa canción 😮😮😮
They didn't admit her because Maddona couldn't follow a simple rule and that was to leave the ego at the door, outside the room. Quincy Jones wasn't about to deal with an artist full of herself and unable to refine her voice, he already had many like that on his plate. There was no space for Maddona in a project like this. It wasn´t their fault.
Madonna could sing, but she needed singing lessons and she didn't do that until she did Evita, 10 years later.
@@Threeleebirdy Madonna después se encargaría de sacarlos de las listas #1 con Crazy for You, una demostración increíble que no necesitaba de ellos.

I hail Madonna - actually singing, hitting the notes, dancing, basically doing cardio on stage, not loosing breath. :O wow.
What is impressive about Madonna at her peak was that her live performances were not just singing but dancing as well. She must have been in great shape physically , kudos to her.
She's so cute, flirty, and energetic in this performance.

@JT i agree🤣those are fun dance steps but we learned those in our aerobic exercise classes back in the 80's.
I was there. Not too far from the stage, at the tender age of 17. I wasn’t a Madonna fan back then, but she did a great job. I get a kick out of spotting myself in that massive crowd of around 90,000. It was hot as hell that day, and later, they turned the fire hoses on us and it was fantastic. Madonna of the 1980's was truly badass. Sing, dance, beautiful, charismatic. She really did rule the 80's
She is great here!!! She has such a great voice!!!! She knows what she wants, and gets it!! No one stands in her way!!! From The Motor City, her hometown, where we know music!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤.....
Funny how she was always criticized by not being able to sing well. Now in 2018 not many female popstars can slay a dance song without even dancing. Here Madonna is fully moving all over that stage and singing live and close to the album version. Goes to show how unfairly treated she was, to be honest.
Singing live, hitting her notes, banging the tamborine,....look, she is not a great pure singer, but she sang her stuff well, and entertained better than any of today's artists.
Just an amazing entertainer. Oh their was so much more to come😉
Tiago Rodrigues it takes a lot of training to sing well and move. During this time she was just starting out. Singers like Beyoncé and lady Gaga had Rough time at the beginning as well
Sorry there are plenty of times here shes so off key, out of tune, she isn’t dancing. Nowadays? She uses so much backing tracks who are you kidding?
Standards were way higher then to be fair. She was and always will be predominately known as a great performer not a top vocalist

She just oozed charisma.
Now I couldn't take my eyes of Madonna's bobby socks and shoes. So daggy now, but so in back then. The 80's fashion was so funny in retrospect. Wish the recent performers could get back to basics at their concerts instead of technological theatrics.

There’s a sadness watching this today. I was 10 years old in Philadelphia and remember this day vividly. There’s an innocence in this. A different time in our world. All these people. No threat of terrorism and the simplicity of our lives were compared to now.
It is sad...I miss those days. 😥☹️
Don’t romanticize the past. People make this mistake all the time. There were threats of terrorism back then. Plus, even in the 1980s it was a harsher time for minorities and women than today.

She brings both that Cher chesti-ness to her singing as well as a bit of a girl-ish squeal whenever she wants it. And all while jumping around like banshee and staying in tune. Mad respect.
Who's Cher??
She’s a singer. When she sings the line ‘I wanna dance with someone else’, that deep tone is like how Cher sings.
Ewww , Cher? are you crazy ?cher has always been envious of M because M is talented . Cher can be seen on social media dissing M and M had never said anything unflattering about her cus M has confidence , talent and class
And Cher had never written a song in her entire career. M however had written dozens of number one songs worldwide
Throaty , chesty, she was pulling from different places here.
My favourite memory of Madonna to this day. Her uniqueness at this point in time was her cool choreography and style (remember all the girls dressing up like her hehe), and singing without losing her breath.
Madonna, today’s at 60 still gets people together. Get Into The Groove with Living legend Madonna.
Super clean audience. No flashes no cameras. Just feel good watching. I wonder nobody ever forsees this star will stay and slay for another 30 years and more
Yeah and Duran Duran, too!
You know what’s crazy? I was in that audience and it’s one of the few concerts I DIDN’T sneak a camera into in the ‘80s and ‘90s. I wish to hell I did. It was the best concert of my life and I never saw one person with a camera in the crowd. Thank god for UA-cam.
Seriously, not too many in the audience would have had access to some decent camere, and if you did, that'd not be the place to carry dad's treasure to! Also as fainting hence becoming a crowd surfer is very likeley, you might just drop it too.
Music and stage shows was at a crossroads in this era. Almost all the other performers at Live Aid were traditional stage performers who sang, maybe strutted around the stage a bit, and focused mainly on the music (MJ, Prince and Tina being notable exceptions). Madonna combined music with dance performance in her stage presentations that most pop acts are now expected to follow. At the same time, this was only the beginning for Madonna... in later tours like Blond Ambition, she added a theatrical/narrative storytelling arc to her shows as well that shifted the expectations for tours yet again. This at the time felt so daring and innovative... amazing that she was singing live while dancing so energetically... little did we know this was only the beginning. It feels almost quaint and innocent now. ;)
Master class live performance!! No one today has the guts to sing live without auto tune or lip singing lol
Perfection is boring - isn't it? Real singers, real musicians. Not a sample in sight
The energy she brings
That's not right. Beyoncé sings 100% live in her concerts (and her singing is always flawless). But I agree that not many singers sing live nowadays.

The clothing she's wearing was called the "Amadeus look", after the 1984 movie "Amadeus". Lots of shiny brocades, lace, and glittery broaches. My best friend worked in a clothing store at the time and they stocked a whole line of that kind of look.

This performance doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Madonna has been in the business so long, you forget what incredible, raw talent she had in the 80’s.
The singing performance or something was a little off. I think the outdoor venue part where she cant hear herself plays a part.
I remember when this was on television. This was massive. She was skyrocketed bigger and bigger each year. Just when you’d think she was bigger than anyone else she would get even bigger. That had never happened to that degree with a female entertainer before. Not to this degree.

Imo she was already a legend. Fucking amazing ground breaking Madonna.
She soaking in it. She had it in spades. Top notch artist.
I wouldn't say she was a diamond in the rough stage, she was actually pretty good and way better than the past 20+ years. Mid 80s, late 80s Madonna was amazing.
She actually seemed quite pleasant & relatable here, which is something that I'm not accustomed to seeing...
She’s always been a force nature. Anyone who dares criticize her insane talent and raw charisma need look no further than this video to be corrected.
Her belting is actually pretty good. It wasn’t pitchy. She had pretty good breath control considering her high energy movements.

Millennials have no idea how big Madonna was back in the 80’s
She exploded when I was in high school. All the girls were wearing wide-necked shirts tilted to the side with the one bra strap and shoulder showing because of Madonna.
Everyone can see how huge she was and how little she is now music wise.
Andres Gonzalez that’s just a pop singers life. They are big but they fade. Madonna has the and probs will always have the longest career for a pop singer, she’s still had #1 albums 40 years into her career. Pop singers fade when a new person comes in, that’s how it works.

It doesn't sound perfect, due to her movements I could hear her breathe... this is how it should be!! She sounds amazing! This is live!
Absolutely.!!
You can hear singers breathe in studio recordings many times also. It just adds to the overall performance.
Her cardio here is unmatched. Those dance movements are definitely like sprinting for 5 mins x singing the long winded phrasings compounded by the natural anxiety of performing. Totally on another level.

Amazing ........ she put her all in this song.
In these early years one can see how much energy and emotion she put into her songs.. She threw every bit of herself into performances, a certain bit of craziness and sassy edge which seems to have calmed and been subdued over the years.. Still think she's great though!

I agree 100% Jimbo! 👍👍 FYI, I grew up in the heydays of 'Classic Rock' (1960s & 70s), and I had developed a real love of music that preceded & influenced 'Classic Rock' (jazz, r&b, soul, blues & classical)...so my expectations for music were set quite high, plus I was never the disco/dance type. Consequently, it took a little while for me to develop an appreciation for Madonna, however her set at Live Aid, her next few albums, and her stance on a lot of social issues changed my perception of her as an artist & person. I now have a lot of respect for her, both in terms of talent & authenticity...and I actually own several of her albums! (however, I still can't stand "Like A Virgin" from her first album... lol)
She's phenomenal 😍
I guess that's a way to put it... raw

I was still living in East Berlin at the time Madona took over the world. The 1980s was the last great decade.
2000s was the last great decade
@@gurindersingh4721 No the 2000s was the beginning of the end. When 9/11 happened everything went to shit.
East Berlin? That had to have been an interesting time to be living over there at the time. America put out two movies in the 80s with Berlin as the setting called Target and Gotcha! Somehow, I think it was a bit exaggerated. But, it worked as scare propaganda to me being a young kid when they first came out.
I would say the 1990s was the last great decade. Both the 90s and the 80s were phenomenal. Actually, despite some problems, most o the 20th century was pretty phenomenal. The 2000s was when it all went downhill.
