Long time Olympus user here. For the longest time, I defended Olympus for its portability, affordability, stabilization and colors but I always get laughed at because it’s not full frame. So happy it’s getting recognized now. I started my photography journey with Em5 mark ii, gave that to my sister and got Em1 mark ii. I like the ergonomics of em1 mark ii than the em5, and I can shoot one hand with it without fear of being dropped especially on vacations. I’m glad I invested on 12, 17, 25, 45 primes. Best of all, my back never hurts. I usually just use the 12 and 45mm now. It’s a great breather from using full-frame cameras for my client work. (I do have a Q2 too but I will never let go of my Olympus. It’s first love and the colors are ✨)

Used the EM-10ii for the past year and fell in love with it. To the point I picked up an EM-5iii this week for $600 usd. I think the EM-5 being weathersealed and can record 4k it can be a great alt to the X100V.

@@GeorgeHolden When I first tried out their 12-40 2.8 lens I was blown away. It’s easily one of the best general zoom lenses I’ve ever used; and I’ve used a lot of them, new and old.
It was so good I insisted we use it on a commercial gig that we were using the og pocket 4K and had some shots that we needed to stay nimble. So I recommended we just shoot the whole thing with that lens to save time, against the concern of one of our producers, and it ended up looking amazing. That same producer later said it was one of the best looking projects that they had been apart of. And it was for a big brand.
If someone is using m43, which is becoming rarer these days in the age of cheap full frame and powerful/affordable s35 cams, I always recommend they check out what Olympus has been cooking up in the lens department.

It was your $300 Street Photography Camera video that drew my attention to the Olympus. Some time ago I decided to do street photography. So I started researching. I soon realized that a small camera that didn't have to be new would be the right choice. I then searched for several weeks and was able to buy an OM-D 10 MII with 297 releases and two kit lenses on Ebay at an attractive price. It came to me in the original box and it even smelled new. After a few tours at my place of residence, I now have my first trip with the camera behind me. I only had the Lumix 25mm f/1.7 plastic lens, which I bought separately. What can I say. I still don't really understand what I always set on the camera, but I strictly avoid the automatic mode and, despite all expectations, brought back a lot of very appealing pictures from the trip. But what I quickly noticed was that the 25 mm object does not always fit, especially if you like photographing buildings. I have now ordered the Lumix 14mm f/2.5 Pancake to gain more experience with the camera. From the 14 mm lens I expect a similar perspective as with a smartphone, with which I have taken a lot of photos before. As already mentioned, I am a complete layman. What can I say in summary. Your tip with the camera was worth its weight in gold. I love the look, the feel and the amazing quality of the photos. I am aware that I still have a lot to learn. Thank you again for your entertaining and informative videos, which no doubt opened the door to the possibilities of street photography in an excellent way. Keep it up...

Great comparison and choice! I fell in love with the X100 series a few years ago and craved a similar camera with the option of changing lenses. I decided to spring for an OM-5 and absolutely love it. IBIS, better weather sealing, negligible loss in image quality, and beautiful color science. Its the same size as an X100 with any of the many pancake M43 lenses. Or a little bigger with a moderate aperture prime or zoom lens. When I'm craving the faux X100 experience I use the Panasonic Leica 15mm f/1.7. The E-M5/OM-5 line even has twin manual control dials on top of the camera like a Fuji. I do miss the leaf shutter for flash photography but the option to swap out lenses is huge.

I almost want to say that I "switched" from Sony APSC and Sony FF to Olympus. That's not 100% true. I will sell of all my APSC lenses and bodies but keep the full frame. But I will tell you, that the size, feel and ergonomics are so much better with Oly E-M5's. So much so that I really wish that Sony bought Olympus and upsized their Sony bodies for full-frame with Sony's excellent sensors, now that would be cool!
In any case, I was one of the many that overlooked Oly until 2022. I selected them for their weather sealing and portability. Then I fell in love with the way that they handle. They are the cameras I go to most often.

I have never thought much of any Fuji camera. I seriously considered the X100F a few years ago, but in the end I bought used EM5MKII to carry around. The deciding factor for me was fixed lens. The 23mm F2 is pretty decent lens, but it is limiting. The EM5 wins hands down, and it actually has a superb set of features missing from many Fuji cameras. So happy Olympus/OM Systems is finally getting recognized. So many people are put off by the m43 sensor because its "low mp" or "ew it's a crop sensor" without even having used them. Currently I shoot with an OM System OM-1 Mark II and people are blown away because the quality is on par with fuji/canon with a better color response than Sony (the true villain in photography). The best part is that my street camera is an OM5 and there is virtually no difference between it and the OM1, buts it's a fraction of the size which makes it perfect for concealment.

I have an Olympus EM-10, and it is good, but for the street, the edge my Lumix GX-9 adds is the 20MP sensor and the ability to set a minimum shutter speed, in a rangefinder style -- otherwise close to EM-10. I love the Olympus 25mm on the street. And the 45mm is super sharp. And for bargains, the Lumix 14mm is good, and right priced. Another Lumix lens which is great is the 30mm macro f2.8, which is sharp edge to edge, and focus is fast, so it is a general use lens. But, after getting the Olympus 25mm f1.8, it might be the one glued to camera the most. For smallest of carry, I have the Olympus PEN PL-8 + the Lumix 14mm pancake -- wow it that compact. If I used the super wide more, I guess the next step is to go with the Lumix 15mm with aperuture ring and f1.7 -- nice. The Lumix 14mm f2.5 gets the job done, and has an interesting look about it. Can't put my finger on it -- is it old school, film color, or just a little off which makes it right? For $198 USD a made in Japan lens is a bargain. And yes indeed the EM-10 line is great, and for street I can use it in Shutter Priority to keep it from falling into a range which is too slow. Actually, with the last lenses, it can be used in Aperture Priority. Regarding Fujifilm colors, I sometimes add Velvia or Provia modification as a last process in editing on PhotoScape X. Mostly I find Olympus and Lumix current models produce fine colors, and B&W images. In camera styles, for the life on me, I don't know why Canon doesn't reintroduce the Canonet line in digital cameras -- those would look sharp - very sharp! And why are Olympus plastic now??? - Loren

Fantastic video, long LONG time Olympus user here and as much as I've tried to really get into Fuji cameras. It's honestly hard. I still use my E-M1 Mark II from 2016 and this camera can be had for less than $400 sometimes and you get 60FPS bursts, Pro Capture (which buffers 60 frames BEFORE you hit the shutter all the way down so you CAPTURE that decisive moment), hybrid AF. Coming from a 1DX the E-M1 Mark II outperforms it in most outdoor sports photography. Then it's small enough to be a fantastic street photography camera. THEN it's got C4k, true 24, OM-LOG, and 1/48 shutter for a true 180 degree shutter for someone that wants to be a narrative filmmaker.

It's been ages since I did street photography, but I can attest to the virtues of these Olympus EM5s and EM10s. I mostly shoot with an EM5 MkI and find it a terrific combo of value and quality. I mostly shoot with the cheap, crisp Lumix 12-32. I'd love to have a couple of Lumix/Leicas, but can't justify the cost. Other than the obvious focal length difference, the main pro of the M.Zuiko 17/1.8 is faster and quieter AF, much more usable MF with the clutch mechanism. The Lumix 20/1.7 is thinner (pancake design), cheaper and maybe optically a tiny bit better. In my decision, price and the physical length of the lens were important. enjoyed video and thanks for the perspective, it encouraged me to get a TT 25/2.0 and try it out on my E-PL7! very fun. So is 2 free presets with mailing list sign up still active? I signed up but no emails yet. Thanks!

I had several Olympus 4/3 cameras before switching to m4/3. I got the original E-M1 pro followed by the E-M5II, however I am astonished by how good my recently purchased tiny Olympus "Pen" E-PL10 is!!

Great video mate! I feel like the M10 is to you what the Gx80 is to me, considering specs and portability 🙌 at this point, there’s no reason in investing that amount of money in a fixed lens camera (would rather invest in a GRIII)..

I love the spreadsheet, I have one I update for every major camera system swap (to justify it). I did think of another column if you missed it, does it have a screen column? As I think with the tilty screen on the Oly, it would sit alongside the X100v

I shoot with The X-100F, but before I have the e-m10Mark II and then sold it and got the Pen-F and the e-M10 Mark IV. Going between the these two systems is a effortless and smooth experience. I got into both due to the form factor, size, and affordability. This is a great video because you focus on two systems side by side and one that is painfully underrated. The Pen-F you can do custom film simulations as well, so it's a really fun camera that inspires one to get out there and shoot. Great video and excellent spreadsheet :)
