Skype replaced AIM, I see no reason for it to not happen with Discord, especially as they fall out of touch with the niche they market to
with discord you can do way more to maintain "order" without needing human mods than on reddit, that's probably why it wouldn't work on reddit if you don't have enough human mods the entire subreddit gets deleted, while on discord you can let lines of code and the built in filters do most of the work, or alternatively just do nothing to moderate and let it run wild
Discord is insane. I made a new account for the business, not even a week later they suspended the account, I reached out to them via Twitter, they waited 11 days, and told me to submit a ticket... Wow Discord, you suspended an account that is literally in TWO SERVERS (both of which I OWN!), and has literally not even sent any messages. I'm sure I must've said something offensive to the Server Owner (rolls eyes)
I think stability ai are the bad guys here. Here is my guess of what could have happened: The official representative of stability ai contacted Discord about making the server verified, and since it's the official stability ai server, they just assumed it was his, and for the ownership, he could have said he switched accounts or sum.
well as notts said, the server wasn't intended to be an official server (and i assume that the subreddit was not official too) and that by some backstage stuff happening, the server got verified, transferred ownership and boom
i remember when my account on discord got stolen, and they literally never responded to my support ticket - instead they returned it because of "suspicious activity" from their end. i mean it shows they have a security system but not a support one
Yet, people still ask me why I dislike corporate. When they do bad things it's really f***ed up, but when they do really good things it's really amazing and beautiful. The reason why I dislike corporate is because they do more bad things than they do good very often.
the escape from tarkov discord did something similar just without the drama it was the unofficial discord for a few years and it became the official discord for the game like 2 or 3 years ago pretty cool when fans of something make a community and it gets recognized

Oh look, a company that exists solely on stealing other people's art and putting it into an algorithm stole this guy's server from him. Who could've seen this coming??
I'm not entirely biased against Stability AI either. I've had horrible experiences with teenage dictators and community drift, and in one case collapse, due to a few power hungry Discord moderators. That last one involved a server started as an official sub Discord server. For a community to remain positive and inclusive, its values need to be closely aligned to the brand it represents. When it's a Discord server for a sub, then the brand is the sub. When it's the official Discord or Sub for a business, it's the same thing, both need to reflect and be closely aligned to your brand. For a business, when something like Reddit or Discord brings in tons of new users and it playing a pivotal role in their growth, it's very difficult to entrust the future of that growth into someone with little prior experience and no official affiliation with your brand. I'm not sure what Kaarssteun's prior experience was with Discord and Subreddit moderation, but going from 50 members to ~40,000 users in just a few months is a massive explosion in popularity, and running a community of 50 members is very different from running a community of 40,000 members. If I was the CEO of a company, I wouldn't entrust the future of my product and vision or the money of my investors into some stranger online, especially if they have little experience running something that large and if I lack the ability to hire them on as official staff in my social media department. At the same time, I also wouldn't grab an existing subreddit or discord server and label it my brand's "official" sub or server without having first aquired it. Stability AI should have compensated Kaarssteun for the value he provided their business. Either buying him out with a large cash payment or offering him shares in the company to ensure he benefits from the future growth of the product he helped to market and grow. I'm sorry, but a 4090 and the promise of a future internship just doesn't cut it. If they didn't want to do that or if Kaarssteun wasn't satisfied with the offer, they could just start their own "official" support subreddit and Discord server. On Discord and Reddit, it's first-come-first-serve to the vanity url/r-slash department, and those are things a company should look into pretty early on if they want to control them. I'm mostly angry with Discord, because they violated their own policies and TOS in forcefully transferring ownership of the server. Maybe there was some shady stuff being spread by Stability AI in their calls, maybe they asserted somehow that they formed the communities or idk. But I don't see any negotiation where Discord could honestly think this was okay. Servers do not themselves generate income, they aren't businesses, and so they aren't covered under trademarks or copyrights. I could definitely see Discord and SAI having cause to remove the "verified" tag from the server, but the server itself, the vanity URL, and the community were all created by Kaarssteun and it is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable for a business and Discord to conspire to pry that away from him. SAI chose to make a server owned by a teen their official server and were probably the ones who requested verification, I don't see Discord doing that on their own. And given Discord ADMITTED they'd fucked up by transferring ownership and gave it back, only to reverse course again, they know it wasn't right.
This comment really shows stability's side of story, while I still think that they should have handled the situation different I don't believe that they did a horrible thing either.
Weird that hiring him as an intern, part time employee or anything like that wasn't part of stable diffusions decisionmaking process. The kid obviously is showing a great deal of patience, wits and competence by firstly creating such well built and populous communities and maintaining such a mature and professional attitude despite being shown no kindness and multiple injustices being comitted towards him. On top of that he's directly and deeply involved with the community/customers, he'd be a valuable asset to ensure proper communication between the two parties and they'd avoid so much terrible reputation as well. If the issue was only that he wasn't a representative, and that he couldn't sign an NDA, this could have been solved in a way that would've made way more sense.
Hehe, you guys better not check World of Tanks Discords :D Same case. Owned privately, verified. Only between-parties contracts down the line. Discord needs to sort their crap out.
So by this logic, if I made something popular and someone else made a Discord server to discuss said popular thing, I have every right to call it the official server, verify it, and then steal ownership? Wtf
I know you HAVE to say "don't harass" stability ai for legal reasons and all that.. but in this case, they deserve to be harassed and everything that comes with it, or this behavior won't change and nothing will get done. Sometimes you NEED to light a torch/flame under the asses of bad people who do bad/unsavory things. And you need to make an undesirable mess for that shitty company with shitty people. (stability ai) Discord should also be in the crossfire for what they did and for being lazy, incompetent, etc. Otherwise they won't change and they will also keep doing what they are doing. Not to mention...If it is THAT easy to steal server ownership from the owner of a verified discord server or not verified. I foresee that being abused and happening a lot more.
Tbh I didn't even say that for legal reasons. The stable diffusion community ripped the fuck outta Stability staff and I don't think having another wave of people hop in on the action would do anything productive.

A. Greedy.... B. More like they covered their asses, the legal aspect of a business is very crucial and wrong mistakes may lead them to hundred thousands or even millions of loses due to legal cases. C. Another problematic issue is what happens when a non owner or non worker is creating an `official` community? D. Discord again as a company - are liable to any legal case against them - covered their asses just like StabilityAI. F. Discord and Stability aren't wrong, they are just AHs. StabilityAI went full enterprise bully on Kaarssteun - they should've realized what an asset that was, mark is an "unofficial community" and pay him to help move the community to another instance which was the official community. Kids being kids, they don't know about the legal repercussions of trademarked companies - that's why you never call yourself "Official" server of some company you don't even own or have stocks in it. If they want an official server - let them invest money, else just mark it "unofficial" or "community".
Discord anything is like talking to a brick wall. They tell you to put feature requests on the feature request forum, and i'm here 3 years later watching that feature now crawl up to being literally the #1 single most upvoted and commented on request on the site, and discord haven't even given it a copypaste response to say they've seen it. Oh! and yea, if you wanted to do a video on this. maybe it's boring for you maybe it isn't but the tl;dr of it is that the discord client has feature disparity between the supported platforms. I'm not talking like desktop and mobile, i mean like Between windows, mac and Linux. the latter two do not have audio support for screen sharing, they did once, but the feature was removed. There's no technical reason why it can't have this, as alternative offerings of a similar nature do and some 3rd party clients have even managed to bodge the functionality back in, it's due to an outdated Electron version and some small code to hook it in to pipewire. People who contacted support about this were asked to put a vote for it on the feature requests, which they have done so in their thousands. the thread asking for this feature has been running for 3 years and to this day it is still not done. not even a response which i mentioned above.
A verified server called Armchair Historian got there account stolen and there verified server was just transferred away and remained verified and it took discord over a week to fix the issue
Disabling accounts for no reason. Happened to me and a few other out-spoken voices out there and since discord support is shite I've still not gotten a reason why let alone my account back.
My friends account once got disabled for being below 13, even tho he was below 13, he never ever talked about his age or birthday at all. That proves that discord just randomly gives people those emails and yeah, verify or die.
Oh I moderate a server owned by a business/game. The staff atomsphere is really chill and while the owner is no longer active (and doesnt want to transfer ownership because its a verified server and thats messy) the other developer is super sweet and so is rest of the staff team. The developer is like the rest of the community and a friend. I wouldnt give this up for the world. The community is the best too.
It's about like trying to build a community server but you can't be discoverable until you have enough members. The whole point of small servers building a community server is to become discoverable in order to help find you more members.
I was a travelling manager for a few years where I'd go to corporate stores and get the numbers up. The gross incompetence of Discord and this AI thing reminded me of my old job. Being the youngest person in the building, the only person who actually knows what is going on, and unable to make choices that actually matter.
tbf that person did steal from real artists since AI art uses real art without consent (and absolutely destroys jobs), so 🤷♀️ like yes it’s a stupid situation, and between these three parties they definitely weren’t at fault, but I personally think that neither the Reddit nor Discord should have ever existed because they’re just fostering a community of heartless thieves. like you can’t make a server centered around stealing from artists and expect someone not to try to steal it from you 😭 the whole point of the server is that you’ve created a community of people who love taking things without consent!!
I have a suggestion for one of your videos NTTS. A video expose about all the hackers, criminal activity, and malware on Discord. Call it "The Dark Side of Discord". It's a well-known fact that Discord is a hive of malevolence and viruses. IMHO they should be shut down or at least boycotted.
ok some decisions of certain parties make sense.... like it would not make sense if an OFFICIAL Stability AI was owned by a non-employee of Stability AI, and there were most likely some miscommunication between Kaarssteun and Stability AI when they made the UNOFFICIAL Kaarssteun's Reddit/Discord OFFICIAL. However, how the heck did Discord give verification status to the server when the "server owner" was not even an employee of Stability AI? That's a huge blunder and a 100% Discord mistake. Discord should have sticked to their own guidelines and requirements and refuse to verify the server unless "the applicant must be the owner of the server and an official representative of a business". If Kaarssteun applied, he didn't meet the latter part of the requirements. If Stability AI representative applied, they would not have met the first part of the requirements.
Bro they should have just hired him and kept him has a sort of project manager or sum high rank than anyone else and kept his ownership and this drama would not unfold ☠️
I hope this doesn’t happen to me. I own the (main) Mann Vs. Machine Discord server (I’m not aware of other servers with as many users as the one I’m in, plus pretty mine was the first, even though I’m not the original owner). Hearing this story, I hope Valve doesn’t sidle along like “heeeey this is ours now”
If Stability AI went ahead and made their own Discord and Subreddit, wouldn't this render Kaarssteun's discord server and subreddit defunked anyway? Wouldn't it lead to practically the same outcome? Apart from the effort.

So like delete the reddit and cut all access to stability as it no longer there I try looking up the invite link and said: "This code isn't working"
with discord you can do way more to maintain "order" without needing human mods than on reddit, that's probably why it wouldn't work
on reddit if you don't have enough human mods the entire subreddit gets deleted, while on discord you can let lines of code and the built in filters do most of the work, or alternatively just do nothing to moderate and let it run wild
Disabled means something else. You're required to add a phone number to an account to use it. That's not disabled.
@Nordin where did they said they idiot
@Nordin Roll out the law. Else just go in your sad room and cry why your mum and dad could not give you a brain.
@Nordin they don’t know ur gender they aren’t just gonna assume 💀
@Nordin why would anyone assume a gender, it’s basic human decency to use they/them if you don’t know *their* gender.
I think stability ai are the bad guys here.
Here is my guess of what could have happened:
The official representative of stability ai contacted Discord about making the server verified, and since it's the official stability ai server, they just assumed it was his, and for the ownership, he could have said he switched accounts or sum.
well as notts said, the server wasn't intended to be an official server (and i assume that the subreddit was not official too) and that by some backstage stuff happening, the server got verified, transferred ownership and boom
@@potsuaye69 Yeah, but they announced it as offical on twitter and hosted beta there, basically convincing Discord it's theirs
I feel the unending urge to harass stability ai about this and I think I will.
A company literally BUILT on stealing artists' art decided to be a thief and not keep any promises?! Who woulda thunk!
robots make better art than twittertards lmfao
i remember when my account on discord got stolen, and they literally never responded to my support ticket - instead they returned it because of "suspicious activity" from their end. i mean it shows they have a security system but not a support one
"the other options were unrelated" there is no improper time to shill your soundcloud to your growing community
same with eating soup wit da fork and getting cancelled
"Eat da soup wit da fork" really got me laughing though. I guess that answer was funny to me because it's really hard to eat soup wit da fork. It was funny because if this wasn't meant to be taken literally, I actually took it literally and it made me laugh.
Yo follow my soundcloud
no im not telling you what it is, cant Kids These Days do anything themselves smh
had a discord partner harass me for 6 months, discord banned me and told me to stop harassing the partner
Oh look, a company that exists solely on stealing other people's art and putting it into an algorithm stole this guy's server from him. Who could've seen this coming??
NTTS: Don't harass Stability AI.
Me: Proceeds to harass Stability AI for being a peice of crap by stealing 2 communities from a person.
Exactly this. Why should we bend over and accept this? Stop letting shitty people do what they want.

I guess these companies realize its easier to steal a pre-established community than to build one themselves.
(stability ai)
Discord should also be in the crossfire for what they did and for being lazy, incompetent, etc.
@@NoTextToSpeech cap, it was either legal reasons and youtube TOS reasons (probably that one tbh cause everyone these days has a "no bulli" disclaimer in their vids now).

Should have just hired him as an internship as like a lead PR assistant and just give him minimum wage, would have fixed the whole discord situation, given him something to put on a resume, and turn the whole thing into a win win situation
Nah wtf. So he made the server (NOT OFFICIAL) and THEY got it verified (not him) then got discord to give them ownership for no reason and he had no say that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard discord needs to work on getting competent staff
It made sense for stability ai have ownership of the discord server but they could've given him moderations atleast.
@@policepolicepolice It didn't make sense for them to have ownership because they didn't make the server
@@joedartonthefenderbass they own the buisness, and typically the owner of the discord server represents the buisness and discord is very strict about this too so it makes sense for stability ai to have ownership of the server. Just like I said him being added to the moderators team would've made up for it
@@policepolicepolice community owned servers are a very common thing. Just cause the server is about their company doesn't mean they can just take it
@@joedartonthefenderbass stability can just take it and take it from discord's words at 2:07 "The owner of the server must be an official representative of the buisness", stability ai cannot just make the original owner of the server own the server because they are not an "official representative of stability ai"
off topic but at 2:27 you can see the cameraman of the stock footage on the womans camera which is kinda funny
remember, folks: discord doesn't have a customer support hotline. yes, a huge company like discord, couldn't be bothered to get a fucking phone number.
The more days that pass, the closer I am to just stop using discord and start using guilded or smth like that
A. Greedy....
I guess it's time to move to TeamSpeak guys

honestly, i'd delete the server if i was given back the ownership for a little bit. If i cant own my own server, nobody gets to have it.

I'm going to harass stability AI. It worked once, it'll work again
Seeing this all go live was infuriating tbh
A verified server called Armchair Historian got there account stolen and there verified server was just transferred away and remained verified and it took discord over a week to fix the issue
if i grew a community i wouldn't get cancelled on twitter, advertise my mixtape or make a discord
i'd eat soup with a fork
Yeah, I'm surprised NTTS is acting like this isn't a normal thing to do when you grow a community.
Owners of an ai art bot which uses stolen art to be able to create said bot stealing from another person? totally didn't see that coming
That's why said Discord is so bad and wondering why shit like this happened and holes in security issues
Lol discord paused invites to the stable diffusion discord 😂
tbf that person did steal from real artists since AI art uses real art without consent (and absolutely destroys jobs), so 🤷♀️ like yes it’s a stupid situation, and between these three parties they definitely weren’t at fault, but I personally think that neither the Reddit nor Discord should have ever existed because they’re just fostering a community of heartless thieves. like you can’t make a server centered around stealing from artists and expect someone not to try to steal it from you 😭 the whole point of the server is that you’ve created a community of people who love taking things without consent!!
Been watching since around like 10 or 30k glad to see you're more popular now

"Novelai has image generation."
I'll just... Leave that there, yes.
I think the funny thing to me out of all of this is that stability ai not only steals artwork but discord servers.
Thief one day, thief everyday. 🤦♀️
Nah a company acting in a manner like that deserves the harassment.
ok some decisions of certain parties make sense.... like it would not make sense if an OFFICIAL Stability AI was owned by a non-employee of Stability AI, and there were most likely some miscommunication between Kaarssteun and Stability AI when they made the UNOFFICIAL Kaarssteun's Reddit/Discord OFFICIAL.
If this happened to me, I'd delete the server as soon as I got control again. Screw that crap
dang, they diddent even need microsoft to mess up discord :P
They've done this in other places too.
Discord's support doesn't always give a damn who actually owns/historically owned a Discord server.
Bro they should have just hired him and kept him has a sort of project manager or sum high rank than anyone else and kept his ownership and this drama would not unfold ☠️
guys we should think about moving to guilded
I hope this doesn’t happen to me. I own the (main) Mann Vs. Machine Discord server (I’m not aware of other servers with as many users as the one I’m in, plus pretty mine was the first, even though I’m not the original owner). Valve caring about TF2, good joke.
the way you use that clown video is so fucking funny because in 8th grade i had to write a score for a scene with that same clown
If Stability AI went ahead and made their own Discord and Subreddit, wouldn't this render Kaarssteun's discord server and subreddit defunked anyway?
Wouldn't it lead to practically the same outcome? Apart from the effort.
