aliuvv oh my gosh thank you!! 😭 I haven’t opened it just yet. But if you’d like to follow my instagram it’s thee.book.bee I haven’t posed yet as I’m working on getting things together.
I’ve over researched since January to the point I’m overwhelmed haha I have like 8 products ready but can’t seem to open yet. What pushed u after 3 years? Best of luck ❤️
J Gparado I’m not quite sure honestly. I feel like I finally just told myself “You know what lets do this if it works out awesome if it doesn’t that’s ok but you’ll never know unless you try.” So I just started slowly buying the things I needed because wow startup costs can be crazy 😅
Soooooooooo first of all how dare you come to UA-cam and give use all of this AMAZING INFORMATION. How dare you take time out of your schedule to be nice to people you don’t even know. BUT thank you so much 😊! You really made me feel more positive about moving forward with this business. Thank you for sharing. You are my SHEhero 👍🏽👏🏽🎊🙂
You are the most clear, concise and thorough person I've found on building an Etsy shop. Being an old male geezer, I'm a little intimidated trying to get into this. But I enjoy doing it and think it's something I could make some money doing. So I appreciate your help.
Yes! Undercutting is a real problem in the "soaping community". People sell their bars of soap for $5 - $6/bar, when soaping materials cost maybe $2 to $3/bar just for making the soaps, when not buying wholesale, depending on which ingredients are used. Then there is buying shipping and packing materials, cost of a good shop logo, stickers for containers, stamps with store name and logo to mark your soap with your store name and logo, as well as costs for molds, containers, appliances, taxes, fees, shipping costs for your soaping materials (oils, clays, colors, fragrances etc.), losses and promotion/ads. People also forget that paying yourself, at least minimum wage for the time spent, and actually paying for the "place" you use to create your soaps, like the rent of your apartment or mortgage, because that is what a business does - even if you do it at home, because you are still using your space to work in. A small business making soaps should at least multiply the TRUE cost of a bar of soap with 3, for it to actually make sense - even if it's just a hobby side job. A bar of hand made soap should, for most low scale producers, at least cost $10/bar, but more closely to $12/bar. In this way, you also have room for unforseen costs, like when Etsy suddenly adds more fees, like they tend to do, without having to make a large jump in your prices, just to make ends meet, which may seem like sudden greed by you by your regular costumers. One thing many also do wrong, is to set their prices at what other stores sell their soaps for. NO! You should set the prices at what your soap is worth. You may sell less than the many others, but you also have to work less, because when you sell one bar of soap, you have sold the equivalent to 2 or 3 bars of soap with an "undercutter" who isn't making any money, or even losing money. Another problem with pricing your soaps at what others are doing leads to an endless cycle of undercutting, which is a problem for everyone, because then the consumers don't know the true cost and value of said product. On another note - your hair looks amazing! :)
I'm a carer for my sister and we've been so bored locked up during lockdown as she's classed as high risk. We've started crafting together and now we are opening an Etsy shop, definitely starting small! It's been a lovely thing to do together and I'm excited to see where things go. Thank you for your tips it's so so helpful ❤️❤️
I was the exact same and put off opening my shop for years. I finally opened my shop in December last year. When i did finally open it, it was a big relief because it freed my mind up to think about how I was actually going to deal with the problems that come up (postage, fees, marketing etc. ) Also, for me anyway I didn't get a sale for a month and the sales have been few and far between (i have only had 3) which i'm grateful for because it allowed me to get acclimatized to everything. So I would just start. Take it step by step. Like Sheena said your not going to get a lot of traffic the minute you open, unless you have a massive following you're directing to your store. Good luck with it. 💚
Very good advice. I’m retired and was an Sales rep., so I know what you are talking about. Thanks for reminding me of what is important to make it work. I have been sewing, quilting, and crafting for years, and have been thinking about setting up a shop.
I have only wanted to open an Etsy shop for a short time but your videos have helped me get a really good idea on what I can do to get started. Thank you so much and I cant wait to get started.
This was one of the best overviews of Opening an Etsy shop I’ve ever seen and I’ve watched a lot. Packed full of useful information. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Such helpful information! Truly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to openly share your experiences. Knowledge is one of the most valuable things!
I’ve been watching so many videos on how to start an Etsy, and you’re honestly the best person I found!! You’re so informative and truthful about everything 🥺💕
New to your channel, but I think your videos are wonderful. I had an Etsy shop a few years ago that I had to close. But, I am thinking of revamping and reopening in the future and this video is a GREAT RESOURCE!!! I was able to offset my shipping at the time, but that is no longer an option and you cover such good, basic info that no one else seems to be sharing. I also loved your earlier, "What do you need" video. Everyone wants to share how they create art, but no one is really explaining the business side; which is frankly more important if you want a successful shop. It is a business after all.
I've had my shop open for twoish years now but you've offered some incredible tips that I think will be more than helpful for expanding what I'm offering right now. Thank you so much for this video and for sharing your hard learned lessons. I've been curious of adding stickers to my shop (currently selling charms, jewelry and notions) and stumbled across your video. I really and truly LOVE that you're stressing to start small and assess vs 'get everything you think you'll need'. Because I wish I'd have seen that advice before I started as it might've kept me from wasting money on some things that will never be sold/sellable.
So so so appreciative of this comment! Thank you so much! I remember starting my journey and feeling like no one was starting from scratch, but already successful - so I wanted to show that and share my personal experience! Really glad to hear it’s still resonating! Thank you!
Your shout out to us essential workers 😭😭😭 got me right in the feels. Thank you because yes we have been going through it, and not just us but our families as well.
This tip about paying your self is soooo true :D It took me really long time to start counting into price my time. It can be just a few dollars but you need to do it ! Thank you for mentioning it :)
Just found this and love it! I’m a Covid nurse so all our Etsy planning and everything came a screeching halt. As did growing our YT channel. Trying to get the process restarted and not be so discouraged. I know we stand for something important and our message is so good. Just have to be smart and your tips are going in my notebook.
I've been watching so many beginner Etsy videos but this is the first one that made me think "Damn now I'm feeling fired up, and motivated AF!" Thank you for sharing such practical and realistic advice!
I am glad that I found your channel. this is just the information I need (and needed) Not sure that I am going to sell on Etsy, but it does give me data I need to think of.
I needed to hear ALL of this...especially the parts about buying way more than you need up front AND waiting for the perfect conditions to put stuff out there. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Your videos are so real and give actual advice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and not just trying to profit off of your viewers.
I appreciate your generous spirit in sharing this; especially sharing your mistakes. You've spun them into gold by allowing the rest of us to learn from them. For me, the reminder that mistakes are part of the process helps me to relax some of my perfectionism (a characteristic that is seldom helpful in moving forward). Thank you, Sheena!
''...Do not let any of these things cripple you from doing what you need to do. We all like to use the need of gaining more to postpone the work that we need to do.''
Great video, thanks for all the tips and encouragement. Yes, part 2 would be much appreciated. I've been on the verge of opening an Etsy shop for many months. I keep doing the excuses you mentioned. I see many are in the same boar.. Time to take a leap of faith.
I'm the same, I'm not salesy salesy either but promoting your work is key, absolutely. ♥️ For and introvert/shy person was tough for me at first, slowly getting better though.
I'm the same, I am shy and don't like to promote myself too much, but I have recently starting getting more into putting myself out there and luckily I was met with kindness and support. I love your work BTW, I love your monthly girls. 💖
You are so kind! Thank you for sharing this video. I am not opening an illustration Etsy, but your tips are something I can apply to my jewelry shop. Sending you warm hugs from California!
I gotta say that I have been watching and reading a lot of videos and articles and the have made me even more worried to start a shop. Your video has been the first to make me wanna open up my shop. Thank you.
Digital products are a fantastic way to let your customers receive your art to be used in a manner that is best suited for their needs. There are no shipping costs, you've got instant file delivery to paying customers (even guests to the platform), you're able to hedge your bets on quality product delivery at a time when suppliers are crippled or shut down due to a pandemic, riots, etc. You don't have to change your prices either.
I've just watched a TON of videos on this and you are the first person i've subscribed to, as I love your style, your vibe and basically you rock!! Thanks for a really engaging informative vid. LOVE!
¨Don´t let the need of gaining more postpone the work that you need to do¨ - Guilty!!!! You are my new favorite! Thanks for all the information. Subscribed!
just opened up my own etsy, and I really appreciate your video! We all have to start somewhere, and it feels good to know that fumbling early on will teach you important lessons in the long run
I’ve been wanting to open an Etsy shop now for a few months but I’ve just moved countries so I hope to have all my belongings soon and I can get started. I’m so excited I can’t wait!! Thank you for your video I’ve watched the first also very helpful!
Awesome video. yes please do part 2. Scale of business. Revaluate. Promote. Best tips. I can sometimes over do it. Start where you are. Trial and error. Much needed advice. Thanks
This is such a great video, I’ve watched a lot of other Etsy tutorials on opening up a shop but this was by far the most helpful and insightful with real actionable steps and tips. Thanks so much for sharing!
I probably watched your videos 50 times in the past month! I just opened my sticker shop this morning and now I am waiting patiently on my first sell. It's so nerve-wracking! This video came JUST ON TIME!
Just subscribed!! I have been thinking about opening up an Etsy shop and I have been watching TONS of videos to help get me started this summer. You are the first UA-cam channel I’ve come across that’s seems so genuine and passionate about helping others start on this journey and truly want them to succeed. I can’t wait to binge all of your vids to get more tips! Seriously, you shine so beautifully on camera and made me feel like I am capable of doing this. Can’t wait to get started!!! Also your products are SO cute I will definitely be shopping from your Etsy store!!! THANK YOU 😊❤️ P.S. I would love a part 2 for this vid ☺️
OMG you’re too kind! 😭😭😭 don’t make me cry! Lol thank you so so much Sarai! I’m so happy that my passion to help really shows bc I want all of us to win! Best of luck with your shop! You can do it love! 👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much for this video. I have an Etsy shop that has been sitting dormant for some time now. During the Pandemic I started back to making jewelry. I will get my shop revamped and in motion. Thank you again.
Thank you from across the pond! What a great video, so informative and inspiring and so real! Stay safe and well and I will be checking out your shop now. 😁
I've been procrastinating and sitting on products for 2 years. Thank you for this very informative video. You've given me the push I need to open up my shop 😀
Thank you so much!! I am here like so many other people and thinking "I want to open an etsy shop" and I am slowly working on that now. I'm in that trial and error phase of trying different materials, adjusting settings, figuring out how to get the best cuts, etc. Your video are my foundation right now! Thank you so much for sharing your process
Hi Sheena! I'm just so,, *motivated* right now after watching your video! I couldn't take my eyes of it and learned a lot of things. I'm finally closing my planning days right now to start building my etsy shop, as well as the list of products I will sell in the latest convention I can attend. I've been too scared for the past 2 years that I completely forgot why I wanted to start this path. Thank you so much for sharing your story 1.5 years later. Looking forward to more of your videos in the future! 🥰✨
TYSM! And SAAME!! I overthink every little thing and its delayed so many projects and opportunities for me! I'm still learning to just let it go and stop refining and rethinking lol ❤️
So glad I found your channel! I want to start an Etsy shop soon, and your videos have given me a lot of good tips. You also seem like such a genuine, kind person!
Your videos have been so extremely helpful and inspiring!!! Thank you for all the great advice. I'm starting my own etsy shop next month after thinking about it for years and I'm so nervous/excited to take the plunge!
Thanks for this video! I have been stuck in the research loop you talked about. Its so true, I am happy to say I have a goal of launching the store Jan1st!
I love your videos! They are very insightful! My most fave part of this video is how you emphasized on developing a connection with your audience that will help them understand your brand and story. As a consumer, that is one of the main things that I value ❤️
No plan of opening an Etsy shop but this was really interesting to learn. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and I'll definitely visit your shop next time I am looking for a new illustration ✨
Great video: very direct, clear, and thorough. One of the best Etsy UA-cam videos.I so appreciate when someone just says it like it is with super direct language and assertive.
Love this! Very straight forward I feel like I'm getting tips from one of my girlfriends. I'm a very matter-of-fact person I don't like things sugar-coated this is hands down one of the best Etsy Tips videos I've seen so far, I opened my shop a month ago after having to resign from my job after maternity leave in order to care for my medically complex infant. Cant wait to implement these tips. Will be rewatching again this time with pen and paper :)
Omgosh thank you so much love! That is such a sweet comment and means so so much to me. I've been a little down/depressed, so I haven't made videos in awhile, but looking forward to starting them back up JUST because of viewers like you! I'm so sorry to hear about your challenges with your new baby and sending you both so much love and light. Hang in there sweets!
I just want to say Thank You. You have an amazing and creative soul and I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with us. I have been making candles for a couple of years and your totally right. So many of my customers really appreciate why I am doing what I do and want to support me because they love my product and care for my passion for my craft. This year was something no one could have seen coming. I was hoping to gain a following by attending my local festivals and craft fairs (I am blessed and live in a college town so there are Many!) but with the issues that so many crafters and artisans are having without being able to make the face to face sales is astounding. In my situation with selling candles, my best salesperson is your nose :) I have a passion for my craft and I actually have the weird situation where some people don't want to ask for an order but if I had a etsy, it's less socially awkward for them. I know this is a lot to say but Thank you! Thank you for your kind perspective and I wish you all the success!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to open my Etsy shop for fanmade stickers tomorrow and I was starting to doubt myself and hesitate about going through with it but your video encouraged me to feel more secure about it!
Yayyyy shoutout to Booktube community!! I found your video because I've been working on my candle Etsy shop and I've found a lot of your tips to be so helpful. I've been lucky to be in the Booktube community for a while, so I was lucky to have some friends who were willing to shop from me 🥰🥰
Great tips! I've had my shop open for almost 6 months and I've definitely had a few of the same problems. Though, I have a business undergrad so the costing stuff wasn't too difficult. I made a spreadsheet that calculates my profits based on the selling price of my items and everything!
I watched your first video last year because I was interested and inspired to open an etsy shop. In June, it will be one year since I opened my shop. I am so proud of what I have done. Thank you for making these videos and sharing your process. It has helped me so much. So cool to see people's etsy shop progress and growth.
Oh my goodness!! I am so happy that you came across my feed! You give truthful, solid advice. I have yet to see a video where a shop owner goes into purchasing an add or a boost. Then how you covered buying all the supplies or thinking the material/machines aren’t good enough without even trying. I have been making products and the more I make them the better I get. I have a few things up on Etsy but I feel like now that I have more made, I can post more because there is a fear of not being able to keep up too. Sorry for the book and thanks again! Consider me subscribed!
I’ve been using “research” as a form of procrastination 🤦🏻♀️ but after 3 years of wanting to start I’ve decided to open an Etsy shop this year! ❤️
what is your shop name? i would love to check it out!! ❤️
aliuvv oh my gosh thank you!!

Congrats on your new shop coming soon! It's not easy but it's so rewarding, you got this!
Soooooooooo first of all how dare you come to UA-cam and give use all of this AMAZING INFORMATION. How dare you take time out of your schedule to be nice to people you don’t even know. You're too sweet!! Thank you so much Tanisha!!
100% yes to a part 2! I am opening up an etsy store this year ( I think it'll be july/august :D) so I'm eating up all the tips I can get!
Yay! thanks Liz!
Good luck with your shop hunny!
@@Anti_everything_and_everyone Thank you!
She Meets City what’s your referral code? 😀 You can get 40 free listings with referral code when you open a shop.
Kai Stockman really?!! 😃
You are the most clear, concise and thorough person I've found on building an Etsy shop. Being an old male geezer, I'm a little intimidated trying to get into this. But I enjoy doing it and think it's something I could make some money doing. So I appreciate your help.
Wow, that means a lot to me! Thank you so much for the feedback and wishing you the best with your Etsy/shop endeavors!
Would love to see a full video on costs and pricing🙌🏼😊

So exciting that you're launching a shop together! It's definitely a crazy time but a really good one to start an online business.
Aww that's so lovely! What are you selling?
This is amazing! How is it going for you both?
I’m scared I’m going to be overwhelmed and I haven’t even started yet!

I needed to hear ALL of this...especially the parts about buying way more than you need up front AND waiting for the perfect conditions to put stuff out there. Thanks!
Thanks Sheena, I've taken some of your lessons to heart! I really appreciate your take on things.
I had to subscribe even before 5 mins into it. Honestly, you are great at explaining things.
TYSM! I appreciate that
Thank you so much! Your videos are so real and give actual advice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and not just trying to profit off of your viewers.
Yep, keep posting videos!!! I'm about to buy something from your shop just because you're trying to help others!!! Keep on keeping on Sis!!!

I appreciate your humble candor with 'teaching moments' :) . Very helpful as I do my research and plan to launch something soon!
Love that you're sharing all these lessons you have learned. Super helpful for new sellers. Thank you!! :)
Thank you so much! So encouraging and reassuring for me to jump-start and kick me in the butt for what I need to do!

Thank you for the great info, good vibes, and encouragement! I cant wait to launch my Etsy now😍
Congratulations on opening your Etsy shop Gabriela!! I opened mine a few months ago as well. What do you sell? :)

Thank you so much for this video. I have an Etsy shop that has been sitting dormant for some time now. During the Pandemic I started back to making jewelry. I will get my shop revamped and in motion. Thank you again.
I love your genuineness and honesty. Because of that, you gained another follower. Thank you for that and for the great tips!
Thank you from across the pond! What a great video, so informative and inspiring and so real! Stay safe and well and I will be checking out your shop now. 😁
I've been procrastinating and sitting on products for 2 years. Thank you for this very informative video. You've given me the push I need to open up my shop 😀
Part 2 please. You just brought hope to me.
Thank you so much for this video!!! It was really helpful, since I really want to open my own Etsy craft/sticker shop.
Amazing advice. I tend to over think. So this makes me feel so much better about how to improve my shop and habits
TYSM!
That's an amazing goal and a great year to start! Did you launch?? :) I'm thinking opening a second shop soon!
i've been thinking about opening an etsy for the past year and your videos are really helping! hopefully, i can open my etsy shop mid-august!
Thanks for the tips! This is really helpful!
I know it’s not related to the video topic but your hair is so pretty! The style and curls are amazing
Thankyou for taking the time to talk about your process and experiences. You're easy to listen to and instantly likeable :)
Thank you thank you!!
Great video: very direct, clear, and thorough. One of the best Etsy UA-cam videos.I so appreciate when someone just says it like it is with super direct language and assertive.
Thank you so so much Sara!
You are a generous and lovely person. I needed to hear the encouragement today. Thank you!
Incredible tips! Much more than the average video, so thank you! 🧡
Thank you so much for the time you took to make this video. Definitely helps clear up the process
In my situation with selling candles, my best salesperson is your nose :)
I have a passion for my craft and I actually have the weird situation where some people don't want to ask for an order but if I had a etsy, it's less socially awkward for them.
I know this is a lot to say but Thank you! Thank you for your kind perspective and I wish you all the success!
Thank you for sharing this info!!
yes! We need a part 2. You've been very helpful. At times when I feel discouraged your videos motivate me to keep going. THANKS!!
Your advise has truly helped me so much! Super clear! Thank youu
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching!!
@@SheMeetsCity yayy
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to open my Etsy shop for fanmade stickers tomorrow and I was starting to doubt myself and hesitate about going through with it but your video encouraged me to feel more secure about it!
yes, we need a part two ... please!!!
Yayyyy shoutout to Booktube community!! I found your video because I've been working on my candle Etsy shop and I've found a lot of your tips to be so helpful. I've been lucky to be in the Booktube community for a while, so I was lucky to have some friends who were willing to shop from me 🥰🥰
I rewatched the video about starting a shop. It’s so detailed and useful. Finally bought my cutting machine. Excited and nervous.
Yesss!!! 👏🏽👏🏽 theres a small learning curve, but when you get going - it’s quite easy! Wishing you the best Eunice!
Thank you sooooooo much. Such valuable point-blank information!
Thank you for your great videos. I'm on the verge of just going for it!! Thank you!
wow the last lesson/ tip at 17:25 was exactly what I needed to hear. This was the push I needed, thank you!!
Great tips! I've had my shop open for almost 6 months and I've definitely had a few of the same problems. Though, I have a business undergrad so the costing stuff wasn't too difficult. I made a spreadsheet that calculates my profits based on the selling price of my items and everything!
Straight to the point 👌...great info and so true!!!!
you dont know how much this video help me right now! Thanks so much for all your tips!
I watched your first video last year because I was interested and inspired to open an etsy shop. In June, it will be one year since I opened my shop. I am so proud of what I have done.
Thank you for making these videos and sharing your process. It has helped me so much. So cool to see people's etsy shop progress and growth.
Listen girl this video was so good and clear! Thank you so much!
So so very helpful. Thank you. I am not into the stickers but I have some products that I want to list. This helped put things into perspective.
Thank you thank you thank you, this video was the most helpful of all the videos I've watched so far on this topic! 🙌🏽
Your video was awesome! Thank you! Totally subscribed so I can see more of your videos. Yes, a part two would be amazing.
Love your direct and honest directive.
thankyou for this entire video and for that shout out to us essential workers. Take care girl!
