I've been on Etsy for 20 months with 86,000 sales and ranked 180th globally in sales. I would agree with much of this video. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. There's no magic formula. Find your audience and grow over time. Just be better than other sellers... better pictures, better descriptions, SEO, and kill it with customer service. That's the recipe.
Hi Ryan, Did you use any paid advertising to get the snowball rolling? I feel that in the beginning it would be difficult to get sales without facebook / instagram ads.
@@GachaGrill1 Honestly, this is something you have to figure out on your own, but I will say that it is not difficult. Look at high volume sellers on Etsy and see if you can reverse engineer any of their processes. It might be something that you never would have guessed or something you have no interest in. That doesn't matter. Your in the business to make money, not to like your product. That's the biggest mistake I see people make on Etsy. Once you have a potential product or service, just act on it. Make a listing. It's that simple. Most Etsy shops started out small and don't require a ton of capital. I started mine with a $38 product order and just kept pumping profits back into the business. From there, just kick the snot out of your competition. Listings are your storefront, so you want every single element to be better than your competition. Go get it.

OMG as someone with a few marketing degrees, you nailed it. The whole "niche" market thing is what professionals do. This was a very helpful video for me (starting an Etsy shop).
Good point on the packaging. Including something special in the package can help your reputation big time, and it can even help dealing with customer issues sometimes, like late shipping for example. I like include a little complimentary gift in my package along with a thank you note and a business card. You can tell how big of an impact it has when they leave a review talking about the whole experience.
I know this video was made years ago, but I just had to comment and say how greatly helpful this video is, thanks! I myself have an Etsy shop, but have struggled in making more sales - just about all the sales I did make were sheerly out of blind luck, but hopefully that will all change.

This is the best video by far for people who want to sell on Etsy and make sales. I am going to start a shop soon but am nervous about doing so. So hopefully your words will inspire me!
Thanks for the great insights, just one consideration... from what I know, Etsy is quite adamant in not allowing sellers to ask or incentivize positive reviews in any way. That's where my sales finally took off after years of trying to figure things out. I was already in a niche, but had to go into a sub-niche to get found. I have also had a boost this year by having more repeat customers. I also send them a sticker with my own artwork on it. Question! As far as sending the buyer a follow-up message offering a discount, isn't it against Etsys TOS to advertise through messages? Or do sellers still do it anyways?
New small business owner here! 🙋🏼♀️ Well, almost there anyway! I'm currently working on my first product (stickers) while listening to various Etsy tips. Thank you very much for sharing, very useful! 😊
Love The video! Thank you! I just opened my shop a couple of weeks ago. When you talk about standing out. Do you mean to add those keywords in a description of the product or tags?
Tags! For SEO purposes. Etsy doesn’t use your description to rank you in search. Your description is more for increasing your conversion rate. still important, but not directly for SEO. Other search engines can pick up keywords from your description, but Etsy doesn’t.
Helllo, I sold on ebay back when it was almost the only game in town. It was simple but now there's so much to learn. Thanks for the tips. I looked into personalized items like I want to offer but prices are about 30% less then what I would like. My Items are way more personalized so maybe it will work?
Hi! Are you referring to eBay or Etsy? These tips are for Etsy and there is a difference there. If you’re selling on Etsy, personalized products are very popular and you can definitely charge more for that. What are you selling?
@@growhandmade2477 Thanks for replying! I'm not sure were to sell but etsy looks best for hand made items. Maybe both. My profile picture has to bottle openers I made. Fire Smith amazing! You can definitely sell on both Etsy and eBay. On Etsy, you can charge more and offer customizable options. You can get started now with what you have. Tasha I agree with you. I opened my shop in 2017 and I have never made as much as some of these individuals are making in such a short time and getting traffic to my website is impossible. It has always been at a snail pace and I have done everything. At the present I am giving Erank a try again to redo my products but as you said it is so hard. For me at least.

Getting tons of sales after few talks with Edwinconsult __ on Instagram. Helped my store out
This is the first useful Etsy video I’ve found. Thank you!
I really love your video!! I felt I got clarity on how to treat a client especially after the sale. I agree with you lots of people forget the client after they make the sale. Very good video.
Frankly speaking Edwinconsult __ on Instagram fixed up my esty and I’ve been running up on sales and traffic.. I’d recommend anyone

When you say its best to have a specific niche for example do you mean only tshirts or could it be apparel in general?

This is so helpful. Thank you for your time. I kept being distracted by you moving your hair away from your face. Lol
This was super helpful! I hadn't thought about including a discount code for a future purchase in my packaging; will definitely try that out!
Yeah whenever I receive a discount code from Etsy or a big store like Vans, target, bath and body works, etc. I feel an urgency to buy something else so the discount doesn’t go to waste

@@michellecollins2712 LEGITIMATE OR NOT/ Still waiting for more information before I can feel safe with this.

Selling on several sites helps too.. I'm on Etsy, Yorbin and Ebay trying to make an Amazon now
Thank you so much for this video. Feels like you just injected some fresh breeze of confidence in me. You dropped a lot of knowledge in this video. Thank you
I'm stuck in only 8 sales made by my relatives and I can't see the light of hope

For me, I have social media’s to promote my business and it’s the easiest way to advertise your business and it’s also free!
@@recommendingedwinconsult__4952 what did he do with you, I’m gonna talk to him but what does it involve
At least you got sales. I’ve had my Etsy shop for over a year now, and I haven’t sold anything yet.
@@heatherroberson8981 Perhaps your store doesn't appear on the first page. I'm considering paying for someone to put my store on page one, but I am also going to create a Facebook and Instagram page for my store and I am going to make a website for my store so that I can dump Etsy and not have to pay them anything if I'm selling from my own site.
Low ticket Price point- definitely a key

Few talks with Edwinconsult __ on Instagram helped out my store!! Improved sales and orders
Just starting the process of online business. This was very helpful!
Thank you!
Question! As far as sending the buyer a follow-up message offering a discount, isn't it against Etsys TOS to advertise through messages? Or do sellers still do it anyways?
I loved this video very helpful! I am exited to narrow down ny ideas for my Etsy shop, I was doing too much and getting lost in the crowd
New small business owner here! 🙋🏼♀️
Well, almost there anyway! I'm currently working on my first product (stickers) while listening to various Etsy tips. Thank you very much for sharing, very useful! 😊

Thank you my darling for all your information, very helpful 🌹🙏🤗💖
Love The video! Thank you! I just opened my shop a couple of weeks ago. When you talk about standing out. Do you mean to add those keywords in a description of the product or tags?
Tags! For SEO purposes. Etsy doesn’t use your description to rank you in search. Your description is more for increasing your conversion rate. still important, but not directly for SEO. Other search engines can pick up keywords from your description, but Etsy doesn’t.

To the point, a lot of valuable tips. Thank you!
I'm thinking without the hook they also could be keychain charms. I could make them now but belt buckles and I'm not sure what else?
ua-cam.com/video/1b8kDKN2OBM/v-deo.html
Fire Smith amazing! You can definitely sell on both Etsy and eBay. On Etsy, you can charge more and offer customizable options. You can get started now with what you have. Just make sure you take some good quality photos and use strong tags. I have a few videos that could help you with that. And if you need some more personalized support, I can help you more in depth in my facebook group :)
@@growhandmade2477 Thanks, I just joined your facebook group.
Wow!! I am amazed at your presentation skills. I have watched many many videos about this subject, but none have been able to impress me as much as the way that you were able to compile this information. Your video was to the point, interesting, and your words were perfectly chosen to deliver these sales concepts. For such a young girl to have already mastered these merchandising skills is remarkable. Undoubtedly, you will always be successful and you have a very bright future. Regards,

thankyou for this video, im trying 3rd time to get my shop bringing in sales , as want to return to being self employed.....always sold at festivals...but need in these days online too.....cross fingers its gunna work x
You say you were able to replace a full-time income with your etsy shop after just 6 weeks but 137 sales in 2 months for 6.99 each is far from a full-time income (even if that full 6.99 was profit).
Hating for sure.
I am gnu on Etsy, I hope this video helps me to grow my business. Thank you for your suggestions
