Wow... seriously kudos to you for sharing these sites to everyone. This is the one thing shop owners should always be willing to share so we can all collectively reduce our waste. Thank you! I will definitely be referencing this video when switching over to compostable packaging 💗
I just started a small business, selling totes and soon prints and stickers and I'm sooooo thankful for those pieces of advice !! I only got like 3-4 orders per day but I'm already pissed off by the plastic I use each time... I will finish my current shipping materials and then switch to more eco friendly ones 🌱
Hello, just to say that degradable plastic doesn’t mean after a certain time, the plastic dissapear. It means that its now in really small particules that are not visible. But still in the environnement. People regularly forget that… Good video anyway! And really good initiative. BRAVO. And good effort, that’s great and look beautiful!
yup! huge thing to remember!! Degradable plastic- it just degrades into smaller bits biodegradable- means that it can be broken down by living things like bacteria and fungi compostable- means that a product is capable of breaking down into natural elements in a compost environment
here 4 years later and this is still super relevant and was very helpful!! i've had a bad experience with ClearBags (one pack of their eco-friendly bags came completely stuck together and was unusable😭) and then when i reached out to customer support for an exchange or refund, they told me they would get back to me in 2 days. it's been a week, and i already sent out a follow-up email, still no response, refund, or replacement in sight 💀 so i'm checking out every single business you recommended and (once i've gone through what i already have) will be switching over all my packaging as well! i just placed an order for some samples from ecoenclose and i'm so excited! thank you for this video, i really appreciate it and i hope that 4 years later your business is flourishing and you're doing well!! ⭐
I really appreciate you posting this. I just opened my Etsy store and it’s really good to know there are more eco friendly options out there. Love your work, keep having fun!
As a young artist who is considering pursuing a business selling art in the future this gave me so much hope because the idea of all of the waste created by shipping has been holding me back. THANK YOU!!! 🌍💗
Hey, Leigh. Just a thought... if you are okay with wax, old school wax parchment paper might be an alternative to biodegradable plastic. You could get parchment bags, and fold over the top with a sticker. If I remember correctly, you see the art somewhat soft focus through them. I think stamps come from the post office in bags like I am describing. Kind of old school, but hey, that's before we became a plastic world! :)
Traditional wax is made with oil products unfortunately you would have to buy beeswax paper specifically, I only learned about the hidden plastic in wax paper like in the last month or so myself and was really disappointed because I thought it was safe for so long :(
@@cyberpunklain I was specifically talking about wax paper like the kitchen wax paper but also wax stamps too or if you're using sealing wax it's also just thermal plastic (unless you're using true original seal stamp wax which is made from natural resins)
Woman, thank you so much for sharing. I own a cosmetic company and I am trying to go completely green. It’s been a thought for the past two years, but now I feel like I have to research it. Thank you for reminding me I not alone in this journey. And we just have to continue to research and we can do it.
I went to a Zero Waste Fair in Santa Monica not too long ago, and one lady had business cards, but hers were made on old pieces of thin cardboard, and she used a custom made stamp with an ink pad and stamped her info on an old piece of cardboard and cut it out to the size of a business card. I thought that was very clever.
thank you so much! extremely important to me. i am an artist in nyc soon to start a retail business (i usually do dig work as an independent contractor here) & it is a major must that everything i use to package or produce is recyclable. yes very unwieldy subject, ty so much! i grew up in the country & wore no shoes out in the woods for miles every day w no trash out there. now, i discovered huge amounts of trash outside in the woods taking my nieces out, was horrified. already a very conscious person regarding recycling & keeping the planet in great (ideally perfect) shape. & water. there these nice toys i saw that inspired me at target, about a 1llb of plastic in the toy, and all the packaging was eco friendly & their branding was all about buying their stuff saves the environment, was a joke! i couldn't sleep at night running retail knowing i just added to a huge problem that i really care about. so ty again for this video!
The only thing Econ loses doesn’t offer are eco friendly clear bags. Hopefully they will in the future. I got my bags from clearbags because they were the only ones I could find what I was looking for. Definitely will be doing more research over time.
WOW a miracle that I found this vid! I send out a monthly zine to 60+ people and I’ve been dying to get more eco-friendly packaging. Going to look into all of these sites tomorrow! Thank you! So glad I found your channel, your work is fantastic
I'm also a big fan of ecoenclose. For me, a mini-eco friendly tip I have is by using the sticker backing from those labels and wrapping them around my pins and it acts like a makeshift "bag" for my pins when I'm packaging.
Thank you so much for collecting all this information, a lot of time goes into searching for suppliers especially for Eco-Friendly packaging and this won't only help illustrators but it will also help jewelry makers. 💗🌿 🌿 🌿 Greetings from Spain.
i'm about to open my own etsy shop and this helps a lot because I want to minimize the waste of plastic as much as possible. Thank you so much for this video
😭 I haven’t started my business yet but I already bought the supplies so i wish this video was out when I was searching for them! Katnipp recently switched to biodegradable too which is really really a big step especially for small companies because it shows it’s possible to still make a good profit while being conscious of the eco footprint we leave behind, but it also inspires people like me to try to do the same!
I appreciate you making this video. There are things that you don't even realize in the packaging process that adds to the waste. I didn't even think about the sticker backings. Glad you found an alternative for it.
I don't even own a business of any sort but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching this video! This was so informative and genuinely fun to watch! Thanks so much for sharing!
I don't know much about companies that supply these but I recently got sent a catalogue in plastic bags made from potato starch so completely biodegradable! You can even put them in the food waste bin
Thank you for making this video! It is so helpful for people who want to uphold the same earth-friendly standard and it pushes people to support the right companies who make strides to do the same.
whenever i order from you or anyone, i usually keep all the packaging and reuse to organize small things on my desk or for storing stationery stuff in. anyway, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us leigh, this is really great stuff! :3
Super helpful! thanks for sharing! I just started an etsy shop, which I make upcycled goods and recycled paper items. I definitely wanted to make sure the packaging was made from recycled goods/could be recycled. Plastic is for sure a tricky one to get around for things like prints!
Also, just a thought. There is a tool called a 1-2-3 Punchboard by We R Memory Keepers. You can make any size of envelope (to a point) in any paper or shape you want. That might be an option for you with packaging stickers.
Super cool video! I launched my stickers this year with self made packaging where I only use cardboard and paper I collect from parcels or everyday shopping. My only bought components are teabags (cause they are a bit transparent) and staples. But dang! I never thought of the inks before! Something I need to look into. Thanks for all the tips!
This is so helpful, I’ve been trying to find a good place to order my packaging so I can open up my shop soon, and now I know where to! Also it’s a plus that it is all environment friendly so makes me feel better about not using so much plastic
I love love LOVE all the information you shared with us, thank you soo so much. Saved for many of us, Im sure, a lot of hours of researching and connected the spots, thank you again, it is greatly appreciated. Also thank you for creating a new and a better world. Lots of love.

I started to open up a depop shop and this was so helpful!! I want to move towards eco-friendly and/or recyclable packaging but you're so right, it was quite hard to find sources for eco-friendly packaging! I'm so glad you made this, thank you so much! Sending all love from one artist to another💗
Thank you!!!! I subscribed straight away and watched this video twice because it is exactly the info vid I have been searching for. Thank you for spreading the good earth friendly info for other small businesses like my own who are eager to do their best for the environment 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you so much for this. As a new small business owner (starting to sell crochet products!) this was something I was highly interested in. I’ve viewed so many tiktoks where people have beautiful packaging but I just felt like it wasn’t good for the environment. I’m excited to look further into these brands that you recommend!
Thank you!!! I've found doing this research to be 1. exhausting and 2. difficult for my adhd brain. I really appreciate having all this info condensed in one place. I can't tell you how many times I've started research and then ended up in a deep dive into other sustainable life options and then monkies and then monkey bread and other recipes. Much appreciate!!
Big thanks for the info! Quick question, where do you get the customized stamp made? and is the ink for the stamps recyclable once its on the package? Thanksss
I just got a package from you & I was so surprised to get something in the mail with basically zero plastic! Everything was super cute and I’m really happy that you have decided to be really eco-friendly
This is awesome, thank you for sharing your hard work and research. One thing I struggle with pin wise is the initial order from the manufacture comes in all those mini bags. Keeping eyes and ears open for alternative but keep it up and thanks again for sharing :)
amazing video! have you considered making your return address into a stamp? cuts out the paper possess entirely, it's a lot faster than printing and cutting and then peeling labels. And it ends up saving you a lot of your stickers to just use for buyers adresses.
This video is AMAZING!!! You could use those plasticy sticker backing papers as pallets for your paint or donate them to a public elementary school art teacher (*it me*) for students to use that way.
I use the sticker backing paper to put between my pieces of art to flatten them & I also use it to make my own stickers. Not entirely Eco-friendly but it does reduce my waste some until I can get more Eco-friendly options.
Usually I reuse things first. Pretty much all wrapping paper becomes collages on my sketchbook. Or backing for the magnets that I make using those free magnets you get from pizza places and stuff. I would definitely love to reuse cute stamps and stickers like your 'do not bend' or 'pls recycle' ones.
I've recently changed to using glassine envelopes (completely compostable, used to store stamp collections amongst other things!). It is not waterproof, but it is to a point. However, I have not found that I've had any trouble with things getting wet in transit and if they do, I just send them another print. HIGHLY recommend glassine!
The video was very helpful thank you Leigh! I really like when companies send along little custom details like printed tissue paper. I use them for gift wrapping, packing etc. as a way to reuse it.
Thank you for sharing this. I feel for new companies who want to grow fast, protecting the environment is the last of their concerns and it's dissapointing.
I was just thinking about this the past week! I think it takes brains to really create any impression without the excessive marketing collateral and packaging - which most of the big corps tend to adopt to "wow" customers. Thanks for sharing! Super helpful 💕
Really good info! I didn’t know I needed this! Im young and have considered having an art business on the side for my future, so I really appreciate this!
I am starting to sell my art on Etsy at AdventureRosie and I'm using French Paper Company to print my art prints on with 100% recycled paper. I'm really happy with how the prints turned out. I'm definitely going to look at getting these resources. Thank you so much for your time and the details you provided in this video. Your art is stunning
Just honestly. Thank you. I wasn't specifically looking for eco friendly but honestly its so worth it. And this just lets me know everything I need to know as a shop just starting out
your tiger painting in the background is green the plant in the background is green your jacket is green your hair is a shade of green the veins on your shelf are green so.. you do really care :)
Thanks so much for this. I already found some of the companies and solutions you did. Like Moo!. I love their cards. Now looking up the label printer paper options. Thanks sooo much!
Such a good video! I work for a wine subscription box company in the warehouse and so I’m packaging and shipping. And I see all the waste we have as a company, it’s not great!! We also ship wine glasses which need to be bubble wrapped so I try to use as little as possible, and if I ever need to pad out a box I’ll use up spare cardboard instead. However there’s little I can do as an employee to change the way we ship. 🙄😔 Though this video has got me thinking, I should bring it up and see what can be done!
My birthday is on Earth Day XD And I am so excited that I found this video!! Once I am really ready to print/package/send off my own work I am 100% going to go green with the packaging!!
THIS IS THE BEST! These clever packaging makes me the happiest! I am grateful to have a serviced-based business cause I have nothing to wrap, but this as a custumer makes me so happy!
This video was super helpful!! im about to start my online shop and you answered so many questions thank you thank you one million times thank you you are doing a great job :)
This is an incredible video, thank you! I’m hoping to be able to sell some of my extra garden goodies next year, tea and flavored salts! This is so beyond helpful!
Really loved this video, thank you for making it! This topic is so near and dear to my heart, too. So important to share this kind of info in the artist community / with the world. Sending you a virtual high five!
Really enjoyed this video, it is something I am researching atm. I am in the UK so my suppliers will be different to yours but you have given me some ideas of what to look for. Love those stamps, will definitely be buying a ‘ please recycle’ one. I currently reuse all the packaging I receive, haven’t had to buy any for many months. Still have some plastic bags I use for sending clothing but once they are gone I won’t be buying any more plastic. Many thanks xx
Thank you so much for this informative video! When I started selling my work I quickly realized how much single use plastics are involved and how it's expected to use them to protect the paper products :( I've been trying out glassine bags on my archival stuff and it works great. I'm launching my online store soon and this is so helpful!
THANK YOU! I can relate so much to this. I have a VERY small business, but i'm constantly making steps to try and be more eco-friendly. For me, i think i've pretty much got it down to 0 plastic, so i use kraft tape, recycled card for the business cards and hamper fill to keep it safe (i sell crochet creatures!) yes, it can work out more expensive, but i've found that people are willing to pay a bit more if they know it's got good intentions behind it :) xx
Some of these eco friendly packaging companies should try sponsoring artists on UA-cam. It would be great for the artists and viewers to learn about their companies
I know noissue have already started doing this.
There's a company called botanical paperworks they make business cards and such out of seeds that you can plant after you are done using them!
wow, that’s so cool!
Really?i definitely need to try this out
Omg that’s amazing!!
Sounds like Sci-Fi lol. I’ll have to check them out sometime :D
It's cool but illegal to send to most countries (not allowed to send seeds).
Because every day is earth day 💕
Monday Tuesday Wednesday
As an artist who’s living zero waste and is SO TIRED of thousands of plastic bags after every con, I am so grateful for this video ♥️🌱

You are the only person I've ever seen with these bangs that I think looks good. That hair is DANG cute on you.
Hey. So I saw this vid and it inspired me to use Biodegradable Nursery Bags as pin/jewelry packaging! It works fine and is safe with the earth.

Ah i loved these tips! Also your illustration style is so cute!!! I love it! 😻
THIS IS THE BEST! These clever packaging makes me the happiest! I am grateful to have a serviced-based business cause I have nothing to wrap, but this as a custumer makes me so happy!
It's so great that you do all this!! Thank you for all the info
Thank you for this video!!!!!!! So helpful to have this all condensed.
Thank you so much for the info. You have set such a good example for a responsible artist out there.
This is the first video I've watched from your channel and I absolutely loved it! So informative and a joy to watch :) You're doing so well :)
Thank you so much for this video, Leigh! I have wanted to learn more about eco-friendly shopping for ages now.
I really appreciate this video you made. It’s making me more aware. Thank you so much! Got a new follower too 🙌🏼
Thank you so much for this informative video!
