That was fun. You’re not easily discouraged, and it paid off with a nice looking and quite satisfactory Murphy bed. I’m considering building one for my guest bedroom so your experience will prove helpful, I’m sure.
Thank you for showing your process. It matters and yeah many times we look back and we’re like I could’ve done it a different way but that’s because we have the experience. Good job and I’m glad you like it.
I wish more diys were like this thank you so much because I’m not satisfied until I’ve searched every possibility and you have clearly done that for me
That was a "Murphy-Saga" ❤ I'm all for a budget DIY project and saving £$€, .. this taught me "Not to 'Cut-Corners' when there's a cost effective alternative" 🎉
Looks really good. I like your idea of using the plaster to form your arched niche opening. The hidden bedside table drawer is very cool as well. I can't believe you make the bed without all the fancy hardware. Well done!
I’ve been researching for a similar DIY project for more than 2 years now, bcoz I didn’t want to pay so much money for a ready-to-use Murphy Bed. I was very happy to watch your video (with the construction problems you’ve been going through) bcoz - after seeing so many DIY projects on the Internet- I anticipated those problems in advance. I wanted a minimalistic LIGHT-weight solution which perfectly STABLE and ESTHETIC in the same time. I can already tell you that the hinge solution without pistons is more then OK, if you buy a STURDY slatted frame. This can additionally be re-inforce with all-around metall band., if needed. The “fall-out” bed legs can be attached on the inner side of the slatted frame (which may have a “central support” depending on the bed width you chose) I want my queen size bed to serve asa MIRROR during the day, so I’ll have to use either cheap contact mirror paper on smooth construction cardboard (which might look “too cheap” in the end) or light-weight ACRYLIC MIRROR cut to size (which might be horribly expensive), or a printed wallpaper (with landscape theme ?) or a self-painted light-reflecting XXL-artwork. The other solution will be to hide the “naked” bed behind DIY sliding doors which THAN can serve as floor-to-ceiling mirrors... or even artwork-bearing surfaces. Or maybe... a combination of both - mirrored surface plus framed artwork pieces would look “unique”... I’ll see... That will be the last decision to make. I’m totally frightened but awfully excited about my project. Your video with all the trouble-shooting and bravery 😅 you showed during the process was a huuuuuge inspiration for me. Thank you so much for your courage and sincerity. Given your young age, it’s absolutely impressive that you even DARED to start this project. This fact alone instantly propelled me OUT of my “analysis paralysis” !!! 😂 So, following your example... I will finally GET STARTED for Christ’s sake - and go with the flow! 😂
Thank you for this video. I'm building a tiny home in a small box truck. The price to buy a wall bed or murphy bed is annoying and frustrating. Even searching for alternatives is a headache. You've given me hope that I can do this. One way or another, I will find a way. Just like you did. No matter what, keep going & keep trying. Good job!! ✌️
I loved the resilience you transmit through the process and it's contagious (at least to me). Because I don't have the money to buy one expensive kit, and I don't need the system to be "baby-proof". Maybe I can use that but instead of vertical, it may be horizontal way. Thabk yoy for the ideas and the detailed explanations. Hopefully, I find myself building one successfully. There might be some errors in this writing but since I can't find them I'll just leave it like this. Thank you again!
I love your humor and also your quote on your info pg here on UA-cam. "If life gives you garbage, make art". It's much more fitting for me than the standard "life give uou lemons..." since I am passionate about the need to recycle, and so I am a mixed media artist that incorporates trash into my art wherever I can. TFS, the laugh, and new more appropriate quote. NAMASTE!
Nice job man, nice to see simple diy build, looking for some examples of diy murphy beds but its anoying to see all those "diy/hobby builds" where guys have full workshop of tools and tech to spare, your build was something refreshing
I have no clue why this video popped up in my UA-cam feed but I’m so glad I did. I really enjoyed watching your design process. It was extremely entertaining. I won’t be building a Murphy bed anytime soon but if I do ever need one I’ve learned something about the process. You have a new subscriber 😊
Actually very good and definitely applies to my budget , and there dont seem to be many vids on here of that, so well happy to have found this one!. Any d.i.y.ers are gonna make adjustments along the way so i would 100% ignore arsehole comments. Its very useful to see mistakes as much as it is to see what works, so i am grateful you kept them in. You must be proper proud. I would be, and uv definitely given me some ideas to consider when i get around to making my murphy bed. Great vid Kee up the good work
shouldve stuck at least with motorcycle/bike or industrial grade bearings for the pivot rotation. the gas struts for car hoods meanwhile are good alternative for the piston mechanism, and the weight calculation for mechanical advantage should be considered. because the murphy bed is technically two type sof lever classes in one
I loved this dude you are the definition of perseverance! I admire your hard work to make your dream bed n not give up. I think it looks beautiful because it’s very creative and your own lil piece of art and thanx so much for making me laugh I needed that today 😂
Really loved this video! It’s so fun seeing the vulnerability of diy experiences others go through! It’s so refreshing and encouraging for other diy’ers because we all go through endless trials & tunings & errors & redos… &&&…. So it’s so inspiring to watch someone else do the same, but keep going! You were so entertaining! So clever! And your determination is just magnificent to watch! Thank you for sharing this with us all all! Genuinely loved this video. 🙏🏼💖👏🏼
Glad your bed, is a comfort for you. "YES THIS IS AN ENTERTAINING VIDEO". I SMILED & LAUGHED ( at the correct moments).Plus I learned a bit. however I would have went into a store that had Murphy beds... An would have asked " them " which pistons work best. Or just take a photo of the Murphy bed pistons on their Murphy beds. .Thanks for the video,I really enjoyed it 👍👋
To make a curve like on that one section another trick is to use foam poster board and make thin slits (making sure not to cut all the way through). This will allow the it to bend easily and cut to your desired thickness and attach with either hot glue or staple gun. Then add the plaster to give it that look you wanted.
Great video mate.. Looks amazing and good to see video of someone making it real DIY method without a workshop/ professional build. Keep it up and you have inspired me for my channel too. Cheers
i also did a DIY Murphy bed, my frame was made out of 2 doors i bought from Home Depot and joined together with a bunch of plywood braces and panels. It's heavy as F but I also used some pistons to reduce needed effort a little (not much).
My fav part of the construction apart from not giving up is using those Ikea pieces as the frame! I didn’t know those existed and would love to work them into a similar project!
I love your persistence and joy when you get stuff right. 😁 Easy to overlook the things you did and you didn't give up. I think it would cost me more because I want quality hardwood that's low VOC. So IFK how much that would ...(Wood? 😅) Cost. But I'm looking into it! Thanks for the vid
I may have a need for a project in the near future and would love to ask for your help if interested please reach out. I've always wanted a Murphy bed and have some possible property addresses that I might like to consider in different areas of the world and like your plan. What is the weight capacity for that bed frame?
About the the pistons , they are 3 types. The one ideal for the propose is the one called gas spring. And the lengh of about 20 inches total, and 120 lib of force.
Entertaining? Most certainly!
Incredible how you made case of trial & error so watchable!!
Thank you for the ideas 👍

Yes it was a bit jank, but you did not give up. I like several of your ideas.. the use of the ikea products and the modeling past. Super clever.
You did great! Your a very humble man, and I was glued to your honesty all the way to the end
Great video! Fun to see the whole progress. You gave me ideas on how to make my own murphy bed. Thanks!

You plugged along with your project and didn't quit good job😊

This is a super video and I applaud your persistence!
I have a fascination with Murphy beds, too. For the moment, I have an inflatable Coleman mattress.
I loved this dude you are the definition of perseverance! I admire your hard work to make your dream bed n not give up. I think it looks beautiful because it’s very creative and your own lil piece of art and thanx so much for making me laugh I needed that today 😂

Awesome video man. The overall flow and editing as well. Sending support 🎉

Love the idea. And adore your baby elephant ears!! I can't get mine to grow that big!!
So cute! I really enjoyed watching this. You are a hoot... Nice work!!
thanks for explaining the different pistons and also reusing spare materials for the open dome shape 🐣🌺🌸
Good for you kid ! Stay at it, never give up !!!
A lot of work. Nice functioning bed, though. I like how you made the neat arch in the cabinet; it turned out great😀!
Great video! Really enjoyed your process of building and troubleshooting.
Ingenious plans and turned out nicely.
Good for you on taking the challenge head on👏🏼

Great job!
I’ve been wanting one so bad to safe space and they are so scarce on the Facebook marketplace lmao thank you for sharing❤

Did you have something like a blueprint (maybe a simple version)? Because it seems like you were just building without any plan.
I may have a need for a project in the near future and would love to ask for your help if interested please reach out. I've always wanted a Murphy bed and have some possible property addresses that I might like to consider in different areas of the world and like your plan. Great Job! Wonderful answer for a small apartment on a budget.
Thank you for this authentic sharing 😊
Great job on your video and bed. You nailed it..

So, the bottom line is if you just spent the money on the hardware kit & plans, you would have saved oodles of time, money, and aggravation.
