I like that you not only show the hacks, but also an improved version and a simple explanation of how to do it. Obviously if I do them I would research a bit more to make sure my plans were correct, but with the information you provide it allows me to decide if something is feasible. I really enjoy your informative content and video structure. ❤
I used the 1x5 kallax (?) shelves under my bed a few years ago and it was a huge win for me! I had one on either side and used the box spring to span the two with a lack side table to support the middle. Then I used a 4x4 kallax at the end of the bed to create a “room divider/privacy screen”. It was a bit busy so I would have loved to add the door hack ideas you showed here, but it was terrifically useful and easy, and a huge amount of storage in a tiny space!
My goodness, this video is a treasure. My mind was racing thinking of variations and modifications of your examples. I love your content and just wanted to share my appreciation and gratitude. ✌️🙏
Saw a lady DIY small mirrors into one large one - and even though she took so much care, there was distortion between mirror to mirror. I think it was something to do with their thinness.
I made the mistake of sticking them directly on my wall, even with precision they don't sit flush against each other, distort at the sides on each piece, all sit at different depths and tore chunks of plaster off my wall when tried to remove. Do not recommend 😮
This issue doesn’t really register visually if you 1) stick them to mdf backing, 2) don’t use the sticky tape but rather construction adhsive, and 3) use an actual wood trim instead of just empty space. We did this hack in our hallway and there’s no distortion. :)
with the bed: theres always the option, if you have a bed with an open frame, to buy or make your own rolling drawers to put under the bed - and if you don't have as much space as you want for drawers, bed risers exist to up the hight of your bed's legs so that you can fit more storage under the bed - which is a simpler solution (with less fear of weightbearing issues) than making your own bedframe
Especially love the idea of building a bed out of Ikea Malm dressers. I slightly changed it so it consists of three Malm dressers as my bedroom has a little more space than Daniel's in the old apartment in London. Such a grest hack!
This is my lucky Sunday! you are a godsend. I love a neat and well presented home. I am ready to start using your creative ideas. Best DIY I have found on UA-cam. BIG THANK YOU!!!!
Daniel, I love this format for your videos. The editing, the flow, the transitions, keeps me hooked throughout the video. It’s so satisfying to watch. The background music is perfect (great music choice and the loudness is just right 👌🏽). And you look great! Kudos to you and your team! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
If you're building bench seating, and you're not making a rest for the lower back, it's not gonna be comfortable to sit and eat at. A vertical wall is pretty horrible as a back rest! This is a pet peeve of mine 😅
I used two bookcase kits from Target and built a frame with wheels for each for under my bed. Tons of storage there and allowed me to build the desk in my bedroom although it does not collapse down like the one in your video.
Hi Daniel, you could consider leaving some extra seconds in the end for people to like and subscribe. For me it often takes 10 seconds and I only realise the video is over when the talking or music stops
Amazingly clear directions. No song and dance from influencers who know nothing of design. Or cost. That doesn't stop them from quacking of course. So cringe. If I weren't already subscribed, this episode would have convinced me. I studied design under Victor Schreckengost fifty years ago and I believe he would be impressed.
Having a bench made from metod cabinets I highly suggest to leave some space behind your feet because it is already uncomfortable to sit on a straight back. Not having space makes you want to sit crossed legs on top of the bench. This is not an issue if you only need it for decor or casual reading, but more if you need it as a dining seat
Daniel, I appreciate your minimalist and clean approach, that's why I think you're a great person to ask: would you make some ideas how to put up a tv wall, from a practical point of view? As my interior is rather vintage or even victorian a bit, I struggle with hiding electronics. The TV itself is okay (obviously) and the cables are hidden in the wall, but what I hate about it is the rest: the subwoofer, soundbar... and even an xbox (it's closed inside the unit fortunately). I have a midcentury tv unit to hide some of the stuff but of course the sound system is out. I've been thinking for 3 years how would I do it again and didn't come up with anything except a similar concept to your idea from this video with the picture ledge which is making a closed shelf-like unit for the soundbar but very minimal abt. 20cm high under the tv or make a fake fireplace (of course it's balancing between looking mysterious and kitsch).
Well chairs are mobile and can be moved around :) Plus they are designed to sit on them in comfortable way. Cabinet sitting bench will not provide that at all.
If I wanted to use plant pots as the base, I'd saw off the bottom(s) on the top one(s) to be able to use all the room in them for storage. The foldable desk can be tweeked a bit. If you attach two pieces of timber vertically to the wall, attach a shelf on top of them and then attach the foldable brackets to the pieces of timber, the desk will not be as flat when folded down, but you will have a shelf for pens and computer mouse.
I LOVE this video, as "IKEA hacking" is one of my passions. I've modified a lot of IKEA items (like BILLY bookcases and SEKTION kitchen cabinets) to create a massive bookcase headboard for a king bed, and a couple of bathroom vanities. Please let us know of any more great hacks.
Some of these are not so 'cheap', especially considering there are existing items that do the same job. The Ikea Malm is a bed with storage built into it, i have one. Building a huge mirror with all those elements can be both expensive and difficult: the Ikea Hovet is 196x78cm and is about only 100 bucks.
That depends on where you live or get the items from, prices varies from place to place. I built that exact mirror deco from the vid for 40$. 30$ for 15 30x30cm mirror from Lazada, 10$ for a gallon of paint and brushes
Time and energy expended is also a cost to consider, as well as additional tools etc Saves more time just buying the thing you want instead of making usually
I found a cheap iron base side table with an MDF top on Amazon. Purchased it and a solid wood lazy Susan. Removed the MDF top and replaced with the lazy Susan and now have a beautiful side table. Very little effort for a nice side table.
the ones I want to do: -bookcase with drop leaf shelves (living/guest room) -storage bench -side table with storage -pretty sideboard (guest/living room) -picture ledge upside down and add hooks for entryway floating shelf + wet coat hanger (10:08)
4:16 That's true, but I love that my risers look much like a Z from the left side of the desk. That way there's a lot of space in the front not obstructed by front legs, so objects can freely lay under the shelf partially. Handy if you have to deal with large objects. That's possible since the leg is steel.
Can you do an episode on clothes drying racks? They take up so much space and I tend to leave it out for days. I think a closet with a pull out drying rack would be a great hack. Once the clothes are dry you just fold the rack into the closet as is and you dont have to waste precious time folding the clothes.
Great video! Thanks for the many ideas! Spring is around the corner and I'm struggling a lot with my balcony. I'm wondering if I could apply a few of those ideas there
Dan, A bed isn't a waste of space, as it's used 8 hours a day or 30% of the time. whereas a dining bench or side tables are only used when sitting there, possibly 1-2 hours per week. what do you think?
One caution with the window bench made of prefabricated kitchen cabinets. If the side panels of the cabinets are long like the ones in your video, they will break if a large person 180 lbs + sits on it or if kids jump on it. These days those panels are made of cheap chip board because they’re not designed to hold weight. Same goes for average weight adults sitting side by side closely together, they could collapse. I’ve seen the bottom of those cupboards collapse when it was full of canned goods. They only have cheap skinny plastic dowels holding them together. Could be a liability factor. There’s a reason why carpenters frame up those window seats because it’s designed to hold weight. It’s also more cost effective to frame it. The cabinets you have shown are about $600 plus doors and hardware $300-400 more. Materials for framing would be about $200 plus doors and hardware saving you $400. Plus you could seat as many people as you like on it including your chubby Uncle Harold.🥸 It’s not hard to build a straight run like that, it’s the bay window ones that are a little tougher. Lots of UA-cam videos on it under “Window Bench Seat”. 😊
Doing the desk shelf today. Really want to do the storage bench for our kitchen table as out dinning areas is just too cramped. Have to convince the wife on that one lol
My local hardware store sells lengths of wood & will cut them into pieces the same size for you. Easier to bring them home too. Great when you don't have a table saw.
Regarding the seat cabinets, ditch the drawers and just make the top / seat either a door that can be opened upwards, or a simple no hinge top-off cover, which you can just take off. Why? well... in case they are meant for being at a table, you won't have an access to the drawers, well... at least not a comfortable access. As long they are not alongside a table, go for the drawers, they are more expensive however and in fact yield minimum difference vs the top/off version.
Look up lift top coffee table. That's what i went with as it has drawers and storage underneath. I'm probably going to be using both that and my desk as a dining table, bith have a healthy amount of storage.
get a couple of decks of playing cards. even up gaps by adding equal number of cards on either side/top/bottom - easy to perfectly match the gaps, cheap and you can always play solitaire when you're done. Actually you could have a lot more fun with friends and Uno cards.
I like that you not only show the hacks, but also an improved version and a simple explanation of how to do it. I think this definitely has to be your most informative video that I’ve watched. From one architect to another, thank you Daniel 😊

This is the best video with best hacks i’ve seen recently, so impressive
I used two bookcase kits from Target and built a frame with wheels for each for under my bed. Tons of storage there and allowed me to build the desk in my bedroom although it does not collapse down like the one in your video.
I love these. It would have been cool to present these hacks in assessing order of difficulty
thanks, great content.
if the bedframe shoudn't be to high, try the the built-in bench hack for underbed storage.😊
That's a great idea actually. Arguably less useful than a full dresser, but much more ergonomic
I love your mirror hack with the photo frames especially as the end result looks fabulous! 🙏🏽 for the inspiration!
finally someone showing my thoughts on chairs since so much years! 🙏🙏🙏
By putting sand in the flower pot base, the dowel table becomes more stable.
I was thinking the same thing, but I think that he wants it to have storage. You could put the sand in the bottom pot and storage for the top one.
@@anaalves3658 you can use a disk of iron to achieve the same effect with less wasted space
Remind me never to sit on one of those cabinet benches, seeing how little support there is I'd absolutely break it 😅
Most modern cabinets are made of pressed fibers of something or other. You would need older all wood cabinets for a storage bench.
Hi Daniel, you could consider leaving some extra seconds in the end for people to like and subscribe. For me it often takes 10 seconds and I only realise the video is over when the talking or music stops

I like how there is actual instructions compared to most videos that just show a before and after.
Currently decorating my small office and found your channel - love all the IKEA inspired ideas :D
Just bought your new wallpaper pack - you my friend have just made a customer for life 😊
So clever, well-executed. Bravo!
5:53 Put strong magnets inside the timber dials and their offcuts, for making it possible to store something inside plant pots

Love these ideas. Keep them coming, please.
These are some great looking hacks. I have always wanted a collapsible table or desk but I always feared it wouldn't be able to take a lot of weight
I love these ideas. However, my only concern is that the cabinets from ikea may not be sturdy enough for seating.
The pure magic of built-ins 🤩👍

@@koniku3y maybe they meant if you buy the mirror from ikea? It'll be more expensive
Oooh I hope I can try the bookcase hack!! 😍😍😍
Love your ideas. I used a kallax for bench. It works very well.

This video is probably the most important video for new house owners in today’s world.
Every idea is duper informative.
Awesome ideas, I loved the vid! 💖
super useful! thanks Daniel!
Just found your channel and I’m so excited 🎉. You have a new follower. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
making your storage bed this easter! cheers
the ones I want to do:

-side table with storage

Wow, I have watched a lot of videos, but this has got to be the most useful and apropro. Thank you very much.
Your videos are just easy of mind to watch. Love 'em ❤

love it! but it ended really suddenly haha
Einfach und genial, danke 🍃🌺🍃
Awesome stuff, Daniel!
You make a move to a small place exciting! Huge thank you!💖
such good ideas..... subscribed
Storage bench idea is great. Unfortunately, ikea is so far away from my home.
Just discovered your channel . Smart and interesting ideas ! Thanks
Great ideas! Love your instructions too!
I love all of these, and I have been looking into these hacks as well
Mr. Titchecker, those miters aren't as easy as you think they are. Try making a frame with the tools you mentioned and see.
These were AMAZING.
I so did this mirror trick in the 80s in our house hallway
Great video! Thanks for the many ideas! Spring is around the corner and I'm struggling a lot with my balcony. I'm wondering if I could apply a few of those ideas there
Another brilliant video!

what do you think?
Storage bench: How much weight can those Ikea kitchen cabinets hold?
I want to know this too. I don't think 30-40" MDF cabinet sides are meant to hold people's weight.
Great ideas!
… and when a person sitting in the middle of the bench wants to get up, everyone has to get up… very comfy 😂😂😂

great video concept, would love to see more! if you do it again could you add prices for each item?
this video is gold
Great ideas thank u ..makes it doable
Hi Daniel. Thank you for sharing these tips and your expertise in this field. ✨😉
Your set up is clean! Wonder what desk lamp/web cam do you use?
More like this, please! Loved the ideas :)
Dont put kallax on any kind of legs without proper support! I did - It bent in the middle.
Great video!
Hey, that was some great tips 👍👍
Brilliant!

lots of great ideas
Love your videos. Which video is the one you design the bed with the drawers are the bottom?? Thanks ❤❤❤
❤Thanks for some wonderful practical ideas. Shared and Subscribed 😊
A bookcase with matching shelves? Where do you find matching shelf doors unless the product happens to sell them separately?
My local hardware store sells lengths of wood & will cut them into pieces the same size for you. Easier to bring them home too. Great when you don't have a table saw.
IKEA, for example, sells spare shelves for some of their bookcases.
that sideboard is worth watching the video
I want to see a video of how to make the storage benches on wheels! Like the video shows at 3:52
