Got tired of the AD waitlist for a GMT Pepsi. Went to the grey market, traded in a watch I wasn’t wearing and walked out with the Pepsi on the same day. I was just growing old waiting for the AD, now I’m wearing the watch as a daily.
Sound advice, as always. Can’t fault it, this man knows his onions. Just a few points about buying from the grey, you’re not necessarily getting like for like. Some secondary dealers polish everything (mentioning no names) so the watch appears pristine and doesn’t come back. If you buy direct from the AD all the lines, edges and curves are as they should be straight out of the plastic before your eyes. All of the parts are 100% genuine from an AD as are the tag, warranty card box and papers. Let’s not get into bezels here but you get my point. You get the full 5 year warranty out of the gate. Plus, peace of mind - buying from the grey market you’ll never know 100% for sure if the watch is hot until it goes back to Rolex for a service; if there has been any dodgy dealing going on your grey guy may not even be around in 10 years time. So it’s not just the cash on the table to consider. Anyway just my 2c. “Exhibition only” signs appear to have gone from AD windows so now’s a great time to get the watch you want on your wrist. Belated Happy Birthday man and many happy returns!
Exhibition only signs are definitely not gone. Rolex started sending a lot of exhibition models around (with no warranty papers, no sale possible), to fill out shelves, allow people to try them on, and avoid the stupid empty stores that we saw 2 years ago. But people forget situation varies wildly from AD to AD and location to location. Getting a SS GMT or Daytona might be 5 or 10% easier than it was 2 years ago in NYC, LA, London or Paris... but it's still virtually impossible with no history. The models that started flowing again are the TT and full gold pieces, which are reselling below retail, as they already were. Regarding grey sellers, there are hundreds of highly reputable grey sellers with decades in business, brick and mortar stores, in house watchmakers, thousands of sales all over the world, and return/money back policies. Buy the seller and you won't have to worry about the issues you've described. And in the rare chance you do have an issue, they'll take the watch back and refund you because they won't destroy their business over a single watch. If you go for a dodgy price way below market from a private seller with no track record however, then don't be naive: either you're getting the deal of the century and should exercise extreme caution, or it's a scam.
Spot on video, without the nonsense. I've been in three Rolex Ads in past 6 months, and the experience was far more pleasant, and one was honest enough to explain what I could reasonably expect. I was offered solid gold to walk out with, shorter wait times on Yachtmasters and Explorers, ...steel subs, GMTs and Daytonas still high demand long lead times. Also offered credit should I want it, whilst being served drinks. Anybody serious about buying a Rolex can use your advice, and potentially have a pleasant experience with an AD, with peace of mind it’s a genuine Rolex.
I wish I could find an honest dealer. I just get them saying pretty much everything they can to discourage me. They will give me absolutely no estimate on how long the wait is or if I'll ever get a watch if I wait. I'm asking for one of the least competitive OPs and they are pretending like it's a Starbuck. Of course ladies models are available to buy hint hint.
@@DadeMurphie that’s a wrong AD and a big no. Don’t bother to visit again, just look for others that are honest. They can be hard to find but they still exist! I did the same, I have a few around the corner which don’t sell anything to me. Then I went to another one 2,5 hours drive and it was like a whole new world. Very patient, polite and they give estimates. They don’t want customers to wait longer than 1 year, so if you get allocation then it’s always within a year and you have to make a deposit which confirms your request. So you know it’s a guaranteed call!
It’s not ‘back to normal’, watch-makers have been furloughed in Switzerland, this down-turn has not levelled out, it’s still dropping. People are turning their backs on spending money on watches and getting back to other things it’s only the collectors that are still interested. There is also a significant recession in China and the US economy is on a knife edge of a recession, they cannot get their inflation under control. Btw, great video nonetheless, great insights into the current Rolex market but I wouldn’t mind betting Submariners and most stainless DJ’s will start trading below retail in the next 9-12 months, there is a glut of them out there.
The irony is that the great majority of Rolex sales are by people who are not particularly wealthy, but they aim to acquire a watch to appear wealthy within their social circles.

You're absolutely right the Rolex rush was a strange thing that happened. What Rolex ADs and boutiques have to come to terms with is that during that time many of them really didn't behave very well towards a number of customers that they are going to need going forward. I've watched from a distance and it has definitely put me off. There are gorgeous watches out there at Rolex money - I don't think Rolex will get any money from me. Great video Oisin - always love your content, it's beautiful. Your shots are stunning.

Well I got the Sea Dweller at an AD, as I have an 8.5 inch wrist. At the time I was aware that it would lose value, but I was concerned with warranty and whether it was genuine or not. Would I have preferred an offer for a submariner? Maybe, I hadn’t tried one on my big wrist. How large is your wrist given your stated preference for this watch? Does the GMT II fit proportionately for you?
I hope you and all your family are all keeping well and healthy 🙏 ❤️ i love watching and listening to your videos, always genuine, honest content i think over the next 12 to 18 months you will start to see more Rolex timepieces available to buy from your Ad ? Look forward to watching your next video stay healthy positive. Happy and most importantly gratitude for the gift of precious life ✨️ peace and love ❤️
Great review of the market right now, only one observation, the two tone yachtmaster 40mm price you mentioned it’s for the previous reference 116621, the new reference 126621 unworn 2024 it’s +18k before taxes in the grey market. In retail it’s 16k
All good and pretty accurate I’d say. The only thing which should be obvious (perhaps not to newbies) is that these are purchasing prices. Selling will be minus a good % commission so if you are keeping no problem. Strangely the CPO may offer you a good trade in price, better than other dealers even better if you are buying new (trade-in).
Excellent video, as always. I can’t afford any of them, but it’s good to hear the basic sub is still holding true if I come into some money. I’d be tempted with a discounted bright black OP if that was doable. Anyway, I just bought a Damasko, I love them, the DS30 is a modern day explorer, but even more suitable for exploring, haha. So I am happy with that for the next few years, if not forever.
Last January I walked into an AD in Aruba and was offered a Sea Dweller and a black faced fluted bezel Datejust 41 with the Jubilee bracelet. I bought the Datejust. Now I’m hunting for an Explorer II Polar and can’t seem to find one except on gray market $5K above retail. Can’t do it. Seems too high. Thoughts?

I watched your video on the 126622, loved it, and i finally got one after being on the list for 1.5yrs. Not sure why it took so long but while I was waiting i even acquired the BLNR (3mths) and the celebration OP36 (7mths) from the AD
pretty much spot on! UK West Mids here - no purchase history, took 4 years on the wait list to get my Explorer 2 Polar - got the call in June....shows the availability for the less popular stuff is getting better....
Recently bought a 6 month old Datejust 41 steel & yellow gold , champagne flutted jubilee with papers for 11,250 on Grey market. Rolex uk have this configuration on for £13,050. So would've taken a haircut. Watch is immaculate & still had a sticker on the back. Wear it daily, so comfortable.
Still on the wait list for a Pepsi after 5 years. Added a Rootbeer last December - got the call in less than 4 months. Very happy with mine too. That was my 4th Rolex in 40 yrs. Guess it will be another 10 for the Daytona ;¬D Greetings
Oisín, still on the list for the rootbeer and now the black submariner date. Considering a no date submariner now as well. Do you prefer the no date submariner or the date submariner today? Thanks! Bertram Inc. I travel to Venice from time to time. If I get down town I'll say hello next time I see you and buy you a drink (or two!).
Totally agree with you on the Sea-Dweller, love it, most likely my favorite model Rolex currently. Funnily enough, it was never too big of a wait during the spike either. Been looking for one from the grey market, but local dealers prize them close to AD which I dont want to pay...... Oisin which one do you like more, SS or TT on the current SD43?

@@JJ-77 I’m a big fan of the two tone but between the two, I’d have to go with steel.
I just bought my first Rolex, a Sea Dweller two tone. Until I started looking at YT videos on Rolexes, I just figured they were just a high end watch a person with the funds could walk in and buy. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.
I'm getting a bit annoyed with my AD. They're the largest Rolex AD in NC and I've been on the wait list for the 40mm Explorer I since it was announced. My purchase history is solid. I've bought multiple Tudors from them as well as multiple pieces of Yurman for my wife and myself. Not to mention that I've built a genuine friendship with my SA. I have a milestone birthday later this month and I told them months ago that I'd really like to celebrate it with the Explorer. There's no indication they're going to come through. I know the Explorer is a popular watch but it's nowhere near in demand as some of the more often requested models.
Your SA is giving you the illusion they're your friend. What's likely happening here is that even with your purchase history, he has bigger clients that buy even more expensive pieces that are harder to push. And likely a bunch of jewelry too for their wives and dusghters. They will always get first dibs. Your SA needs to make sure he keeps them happy first by offering them steel sports models and then he's trying to keep you happy with empty promises so you'll continue buying those Tudor. No offense, but you messed up playing the AD game. You should have gone gray awhile ago. All the money u lost on the Tudors could have paid for the MSRP premium on the gray.
Find a new AD. Bought a Speedmaster Moon from my AD and wanted a black Explorer II and I got one within 3 weeks. Bought a Tudor from them and asked for a Root Beer, got the call on the Root Beer 2 weeks later. This was in early 2023.
The Explorer 2 is the Rolex I want. It's not trying too hard. It knows what it is and you probably won't get mugged wearing it. Personally anything that needs its own security detail or resides in a vault, isn't really worth having. If most collectors were honest they probably don't really like it, we just like the chase.
I’ve been wait listed for 1 year at one AD, 6 mos. at 2 others for an explorer 1, 36mm. I visited them all Again last week and said any stainless Sub or Air King, but I’d still prefer the explorer. Hard to believe the stories about walk-in and get what you want.
I tried to talk to the AD again last week same treatment at the fall of 2022, nothing in stock, and zero interest in dealing with me. I can't find a black faced Exp 2 at retail anywhere, or even the previous version with the black face. SO I moved onto Tudor where I can get a Blue Pelagos and be happy with it, funny thing is my local AD is not "allowed" to stock Tudor .
Air king , explorer 2 black dial , date just 41 any color dial ….id be happy with any of them. I’m not a collector , I’d probably be one and done with Rolex if I could get any of those. If not , I’ll just stick to smaller brands like Sinn and Zodiac. Very well made no nonsense video. It’s refreshing from all the click bait style videos you mentioned. You just earned a Sub……scription 😉 from me.
It's a true story, I first was offered the white gold blue dial, I was then offered the rose gold chocolate dial on oyster flex and then finally I got the black dial stainless steel Daytona. I still have all three. The white gold blue dial is my favourite. The unboxing of each watch in on my channel. So tell me about those tornadoes. lol

@@watch_collecting So you were offered two increadibly expensive precious metal pieces costing more than a modest home and then, having spent all that money on those, were finally offered a stainless steel one? How does a person with this small a brain find their way to my channel?
you should try interlacken in the morning, I got mine there, except I need to purchase a IWC mark XVIII as well (better than other AD which make you buy tutor you don't want)
I was a driver for a diplomat ...they get their watches without staying in line and pay 0 tax . This is how i bought my first watch way under the market value and under the retail price because of 0 tax !
Meh…prices are still 20%+ higher than what you’re saying on grey market. Maybe I can find 36mm two tone for retail or below. Still cant get call from AD. I see no difference from a couple years ago. Same old same old with Rolex.
Thank you for this informative video. I put my name down for a batman 3 or 4 months ago. I got a call last week for the rhodium yachtmaster because she recalled me showing interest in it. I ended up passing on it. Hope this does diminish my ability to get the gmt.
Definitely the case with certain Datejusts, especially the blue dial 36mm models-- my AD said there are still currently very high demand for those. Most will take any style bezel or bracelet if they received a call. Part of me still really wants the palm fronds dial 😆
We are not back to normal, which was walking in and being able to get SOMETHING desirable. Instead if there is something, its because no one wants it and its waiting for a sucker who is going to get snubbed afterwards by the AD that will not produce the favorites.
The thing is, like Nike and car manufacturers, Rolex had noticed people will pay considerably more than retail for some things hence the high price increase. How much of these are due to “flippers” you decide
Are you sure the rose gold blue dial is a good option at AD? I was offered but speaking to grey market dealer they thought would depreciate significantly
3 місяці тому
Because they can see the future. Ask them for next week’s winning lottery numbers while you’re at it.
Liquidity will be small if resell later as just a man’s watch and then smaller still since full gold …. Who’s going to buy this ? I’d rather you were correct as really like the watch. Just don’t want to be hit with a ton of depreciation

So you wouldn't get a brand new bluesey from the AD right? I walked in looking to get on the wait list for a bruce wayne and they offered me a 2 week old bluesey on the spot, the dealer said he was surprised it didn't sell but he says it won't be there by the end of the week. It kind of gave me a bit of fomo but you can get a 2024 one on the grey market for about £13500 they wanted £14200.

How much over MSRP did you pay the shysters?
It’s pretty simple, stop buying watches as investments. If you really want the watch to wear it, buy it. If you don’t, turn it down
Almost no one buys as investment. perhaps they buy as sustainable asset. A very different thing.
Not an asset. But I catch your point. Maybe store of value.

Oisin, this is one of your best videos. You may want to do this type of video for other brands as well.
Great review of the market right now, only one observation, the two tone yachtmaster 40mm price you mentioned it’s for the previous reference 116621, the new reference 126621 unworn 2024 it’s +18k before taxes in the grey market. In retail it’s 16k
Back to the roots! Good video thanks for the advice. 👍🏽
Excellent video ! Thank you !
went to an AD 2 days ago, they said the demand is the same as it was for the past 2-3 years.
My AD says the same. Things haven’t changed much for them. For the grey market, yes but the AD’s have nothing to do with them.
Went to a different AD while on vacation. They currently have a mode I want. They said call back in 2 months.
Just got offered the Sea-Dweller today
75 days to get my Sea-Dweller
Got the call for the rose gold sky dweller blue dial on jubilee and couldn’t be happier!
My god. What a beauty.
It's really stunning, pictures and videos do not do it justice.
Good info. Oisin, if you had to pick one Datejust, what color and configuration would you pick?
Good analysis Oisin 👏🏻 👏🏻

Solid & to the point. Like a knowledgeable announcer - the Rolex Market (in Sept '24) in a nutshell.
Yo bro that was a really good video
pretty much spot on!
You covered the Sea Dweller - but what about the Deepsea… AD or Grey?
Doing what you do best ! …great content ..thank you sir !!
The Hamster was wearing a white dial Explorer 2 on the finale of Grand Tour. I was surprised it didn't look too big on him.
You ARE a UA-camr! Just flinging your opinions. Nice perspectives. T)
Still waiting for my GMT 2 Blue/Red after 4 years at the AD. Maybe it will come in the next 6 years.
The Slate dial Yachtmaster has not been called Rhodium by Rolex for many years now. Some still hang on to that terminology.
They’re clowning you
Your SA is giving you the illusion they're your friend.
What about Daytonas with diamonds? I am personally not a fan of the diamonds but was offered a Daytona with diamonds a few months back.
It would have to be the steel explorer 1 for me. It's the one that floats my boat. What can I say. Enjoyed the vid 👌
I love my 216570 polar!
And I as well. Stellar piece
@@ezee-e Absolutely perfect everyday watch!
You skipped the GMT Master 2 with meteorite dial. Whats your opinion. Buy at dealer or get cheaper on grey marked?
I’ve been wait listed for 1 year at one AD, 6 mos. at 2 others for an explorer 1, 36mm. I visited them all Again last week and said any stainless Sub or Air King, but I’d still prefer the explorer. Hard to believe the stories about walk-in and get what you want.
Enjoyable and a good update on the Rolex market
Good buddy of mine ordered an Explorer and a Mido more or less simultaneously this winter...got the Rolex faster. Certainly caught him by surprise....
I’ve been offered 3 Daytonas and I bought all three over the last two years.
I saw two tornadoes in one week.
😂😂😂
It's a true story, I first was offered the white gold blue dial, I was then offered the rose gold chocolate dial on oyster flex and then finally I got the black dial stainless steel Daytona. I still have all three. The white gold blue dial is my favourite. The unboxing of each watch in on my channel. So tell me about those tornadoes. lol
@@watch_collecting So you were offered two increadibly expensive precious metal pieces costing more than a modest home and then, having spent all that money on those, were finally offered a stainless steel one?
How does a person with this small a brain find their way to my channel?
I have been to a lot AD’s in Switzerland this week. Everything was for exhibition only lol.
you should try interlacken in the morning, I got mine there, except I need to purchase a IWC mark XVIII as well (better than other AD which make you buy tutor you don't want)
Great Content!!
Can you do an update with recent market changes please
In france i am in wait list for an oyster perpetual 41mm in black, the ad speak to me about 8 month of wait minimum,
It might come sooner. Maybe 8 months max.
I received my “Sea Dweller” with only a 30-day wait from an authorized dealer, I thought I would have to wait a year, maybe more.
@@steven_b007 ok,thank you for this good experience,i hoppe they will calling me soon..
Great video, thanks!
I was a driver for a diplomat ...they get their watches without staying in line and pay 0 tax . This is how i bought my first watch way under the market value and under the retail price because of 0 tax !
My AD isn’t banging on my door offering me the TT Root Beer. And I have history.
I've heard from many still waiting for that watch.
Meh…prices are still 20%+ higher than what you’re saying on grey market. Maybe I can find 36mm two tone for retail or below. Still cant get call from AD. I see no difference from a couple years ago. Same old same old with Rolex.
Great vid Oisin, as all ways.
Thank you for this informative video.
I put my name down for a batman 3 or 4 months ago. I got a call last week for the rhodium yachtmaster because she recalled me showing interest in it. I ended up passing on it. Hope this does diminish my ability to get the gmt.
It would be great to hear Lenny’s take on other brands as well.
Definitely the case with certain Datejusts, especially the blue dial 36mm models-- my AD said there are still currently very high demand for those. Most will take any style bezel or bracelet if they received a call.
Part of me still really wants the palm fronds dial 😆
I'd rather wear Omega anyway. When I make it big, I won't be looking at any Rolex anyway.
We are not back to normal, which was walking in and being able to get SOMETHING desirable. Instead if there is something, its because no one wants it and its waiting for a sucker who is going to get snubbed afterwards by the AD that will not produce the favorites.
Great video. What do you think of white gold GMT with meteorite dial?
The thing is, like Nike and car manufacturers, Rolex had noticed people will pay considerably more than retail for some things hence the high price increase. How much of these are due to “flippers” you decide
5:46 not an asset. Assets are turned into revenues and expenses.
I got the call after 2.5 years for my Sprite.... Was well worth the wait.... It's gorgeous
😂😂😂
Congrats!! Wear it in good health
Had goldsmiths call and email me 2-3 times for Rolex sale………too late!
I was just at an AD. they said they have only had one, Titanium yacht master come through the door so far.
I really hope Rolex makes more titanium pieces. Titanium is my favorite material for watches
Yea right. They offered one to a vip client. The rest walked out the back door
New to the channel and I'm about to head to Europe for an extensive trip, is it easier to find Rolex watches select European markets?
Are you sure the rose gold blue dial is a good option at AD? I was offered but speaking to grey market dealer they thought would depreciate significantly
Because they can see the future. Ask them for next week’s winning lottery numbers while you’re at it.
You mean they want to get their hands on it and so putting me off ?
Or you mean they have no idea ….
Liquidity will be small if resell later as just a man’s watch and then smaller still since full gold …. Who’s going to buy this ? I’d rather you were correct as really like the watch. Just don’t want to be hit with a ton of depreciation
@@richie694 the piece currently trades around 20K over retail. The predictions are for the birds. We simply don't know what the future holds and anyone who claims to, should be considered suspect.
