You know you're a Buffy fan when you can't help but sing every single song in Once More with Feeling. Tara lord...I miss her so much. I am so nostalgic now, I miss Buffy so much sometimes I HAVE to rewatch it. Tara meant so much to me. Anyways I enjoyed watching this, thank you for sharing your enthusiasm with us, and thank you for singing along. It's so nice seeing someone do this because I can relate. on many levels.

When the actor in the show is singing, the reactor is singing, and you are singing along with both, you know the show stands the test of time. And was in fact ahead of its time.

I started to watch Buffy back in the spring 2016, when I was 51 years old. Had some time to spend waiting for Carmilla season 3 and thougt it wold be nice to understand the Buffy references popping up now and then. Since then I have seen it all three times, gone througt the best parts repeatedly, and can sing a few of the songs (am probably a little crazy, but hey, it`s the best show ever).

This comment is extremely late; however, I have a 28-year-old son and a 21-year-old daughter who grew up watching Buffy with me. Seriously, my daughter was a year old when she first experienced "Once More With Feeling." (The soundtrack has been in my car on either CD or iPod since it came out.) They never seemed "confused" (for lack of a better word) by Tara and Willow. They never questioned why two women were together. I think it had a lot to do with how truthful and multidimensional their relationship was. This and "Family" are my daughter's favorite episodes, and I thought it was so adorable when, at the age of seven, she was watching "Family" with me and said, "Tara's Willow's family because of love. They make me happy like Dawn!" It made me feel a wee bit better about letting my young kids watch a vampire show! Haha!
Both of them have the soundtrack, too. We also have 12 cats, including a Tara and a Willow.

What I loved so much about this episode when it first aired is that it takes the entire concept of dramatic irony and _shreds_ it.
Throughout the season, each character harbors secrets and doubts, which are set up as narrative time bombs...then a demon comes along and makes everyone spill everything, and the characters have to deal with it all at once.
It's so amazing, and I love it. I don't remember the last time I saw a network TV show take such a bold turn.

I just binged all of Buffy for the first time and I absolutely loved it!! I am 20 now but if I had seen it at the time you made this video and I would have been 15 and I would have enjoyed it just as much as I did now! It is definitely one of my favourite tv show musical episode (the other being the Once Upon A Time Musical Episode). I think everything you said describes it perfectly!! And even though the topic throughout this episode is quite dark there is still this beauty about it and the music just makes it 100x better to watch!! And that last chord of the episode is just spine tingling omg!
Also, I loved your reaction though this whole video. The pure joy in your face made me smile so much 😆

As someone who was there from night one as it first aired on tv, I'm right there with you. This show was and is sooooo many things. Always ahead of ahead of it's time. So topical and on point even to this day, 20 years later. And I couldn't agree more with your assessment that many newer shows that have come along since then wouldn't be what they are today without Buffy. There had been moments before Buffy. Brief glimpses and short interactions on certain topics most often avoided. But Buffy was the first show to ever grab a hold of all the topics that really mattered and affected people and shove them in everyone's face...right in prime time on network tv. This show explored domestic violence, emotional abuse, healthy vs unhealthy relationships, bullying, depression, suicide, self discovery, gender inequality, grief, attempted rape and so much more. Everything people had been afraid to build a show around in the past. Do we really think shows like Modern Family would have ever gotten green lit without Buffy proving the audience would be there? This show is why I still worship at the alter of Joss Whedon to this day.

Yes! Buffy is perfect to find at 15.
I watched it when it first aired, I was a year behind them, so I think I was 14 or 15. My best friend and I were (are) obsessed. We would tape the episodes on VHS from cable and watch them over and over and try to catch all the hints around the writing and what the dreams meant and everything. It's such an amazing show. Season six, although so dark, is still my favorite, I didn't realize until later in life just how much it echoed my life at that time... it was confusing, I felt left out and let down by people around me and was so self destructive. It helped me understand what was going on, and that although Buffy and myself are strong, amazing women, we are not immune to feeling terrible or making horrible decisions. Ugh, I can't say enough, but it sounds like you understand ;-)

    1. OMWF
    2. tabula rasa (the amnesia episode)
    3. Dopplegangland (and you all know its beacuse of vamp!willow i mean come on she is soooooooo hot and in willow's words "and a little bit gay")

    • @juzujuzu4555
      @juzujuzu4555 6 років тому +1

      1. OMWF / BODY (it is masterpiece but so hard to watch)
      1.5 Hush
      3. Becoming part 1&2
3.5 Graduation / Innocence / Passion (the point when we felt that Angel cannot be redeemed anymore)
      4. Rest of Josh Whedon / other popular best episodes that are not Whedon
Trying to write this list I just remember more and more unbelievable episodes. Also while quality is better in later seasons, season 2 is when our mind got blown away and so objectivity is impossible. It almost feels criminal to do these lists cos those 20 or so best episodes are all so amazing and you appreciate different episodes when you get older and have different perspective.
Just want to point out one thing. Think what this show would be if Xander would be some alfa male or had no chemistry with the cast. Cos he is the only male main character, he allows others to shine and thus he is grounded in more realism, for example he hated Angel/Spike cos they were vampires and thus demons. Ofcourse he was jealous too, but his role is to ground the show into reality. Try to put any other actor in place of Xander. Audience is "manipulated" to root for Buffy+Angel or Buffy+Spike, but in real life that would be horrible. So we need Xander to ground this show to that reality, because without that realism Buffyverse would feel cheesy etc. so please give Xander the credit he deserves. Also, he propably is more important for male audience, he we can relate and through him we can relate to Buffy/Willow and rest of the cast.

It's still as relevant today in 2020 as it was back in 2017, and fyi there are fan gatherings where the karaoke version of this is shown on a huge screen and everyone is singing along Not sure if such events are organized here in the Nordics, and especially not now during the pandemic, but I do know that there are several in the US.
Also (perhaps thanks to the pandemic) there have been a recent upswing in young people reacting to Buffy recently so young people still find is as good and relevant as we did back in the day!

I was in the class of '99, but wasn't allowed to watch non-educational TV as a teenager, and was pretty unaware of most pop culture. When I finally discovered this show in my late 20s, it felt like a part of my childhood that I had missed. The message I most wish I had known as a teenager is Buffy's speech to Jonathan in Earshot, that everyone is too busy with their own pain to notice yours. This helped me so much with my social anxiety and I became much more comfortable in my own skin.

We'd had the Xena musical episode a little while before with all original songs and it set the standard -- and then OMWF blew it out of the water, gathered up the smithereens, and blew it up again. While there was gnashing of teeth among the fandom at the time with Dawn and Season 6, this episode... there really are still no words. It was a marvel.

I found the show Angel first while going through Cancer and I agree that words can't fully describe that just by watching both Angel then Buffy (Dvd's season by season) helped me get through my god awful treatments, and while ya puking and loss of hair I knew about it was the isolation and the how I saw myself as a sick, bald, tired, person that no one wanted to be around was where I found and there is no other way to say it a friend. not like a let's do dinner type friend but more of a way to share my vast emotions with. I was able to laff, cry, hope, in a time when it was needed the most. I can't say the show's saved me but I can say with total honesty that it helped me through a very hard time.

I was 13 years old when Buffy came on. I remember watching the first episode when it aired. I almost never missed an episode up until the 4th season when sports and school stuff prevented me from keeping up. So I finally did a rewatch and got to finish the series last year. Bless you Netflix. Watching Willow & Tara's relationship left me wanting more representation. I didn't realize how much I needed it until then. I think I've mentioned this before but it was because of Buffy that I found your channel and found Carmilla, which that show changed my life. I wanted more Willow & Tara so I searched for fan vids on youtube. One of the suggested ones was a multifandom f/f vid. It had Hollstein, Wayhaught, and Clexa in it. Which then it had one of your Carmilla reactions suggested after it. So thank you Buffy for leading me to this channel and thank you Natalie for leading me to Carmilla. I would love it if you did more reaction vids to Buffy. Like you said it would be like watching them with a friend, a friend who feels the same way about the show as I do. So thank you for making these vids. They really do mean a lot. They help make people feel connected and not alone.

I love finding people who feel the same way about this show as I do! I came in late to the show while it was on, I came in part way through season 3, after having watched and rewatched seasons 1 and 2 so many times lol But this show means so much to me and it's my comfort show for sure!

This is my favorite TV show of all time. I still remember recording it on VHS because it came on when I couldn't watch it live. I got the whole series once it came out on DVD, I was so excited. Lol. So glad you were able to find it and watch and enjoy it after it aired. I would love to see your reactions to some of the other episodes. Like Hush?
Also, I am very far behind the times on Carmilla and just binge watched the whole thing. I'm looking forward to watching your reactions to a few of those as well.

You’d have loved it in Vancouver, pre Covid there was an annual sing along held in a local cinema. People came in costumes, sang with the show like RHPS screenings. It was so much fun

"Respect the cruller and tame the doughnut" was a reference to Tom Cruise's "respect the c**k and tame the c**t" from the movie Magnolia. Apparently Joss was a big PT Anderson fan, as am I. I was probably in the 2% that got Xander's joke. :)

That's what that is! I've seen that Magnolia scene more than once, and OMWF more times than I can count but I never put the two together.
It fits well with Xanders character and the dark creepy sexist side of him that comes out sometimes but is never really adressed in the show.

I came across your video just scrolling through and watching all reaction videos to Once more with feeling I could find and that seemed interesting. I’m so glad I watched yours! It was incredibly touching to hear you speak about how important the show was to you and, specifically, how important the Willow/Tara relationship was, especially back then. While I can’t possibly relate to what you were feeling, what I can say is that I think that having this relationship in my favourite show when I was growing up really shaped my view of homosexual relationships as.. well, relationships. Being exposed to such a good representation early on just normalised it. Don’t get me wrong - it was not like I had a negative view on it or anything, I think I just really hadn’t ever thought about it but Buffy really helped me become all-in-all a better person.
Sorry for the rambling thoughts and any mistakes - a foreigner here, English is not my first language.
Oh, and your voice is absolutely stunning. Beautiful, truly.

Late to the show, but Alyson Hannigan's (Willow) reaction to hearing what she had done to Buffy was just spot on. The look of absolute horror on her face really sold it.

I totally get you! It´s difficult to put into words. But I´ll probably have to say, the final minutes of Buffy´s season 5 finale were most likely the most emotional tv watching experience, that I´ve ever had in my life, even just recently relived!...

  • @LittleV179

I kinda only just found your channel, you're ace btw!
I watched Buffy in 3 different times in my life, I had an older brother so when I was 7 years old I would watch it with my brother and watched the entire first run growing up, I saw it then as a girl who kicked butt and scary monsters and magic and it was awesome.
When I watched it again I was a teenager, as soon as the season finale ended in 2003 I watched it all from the beginning and saw so many other things to identify with and I got the jokes and the angst and the tension a lot more.
My 3rd viewing of Buffy was when I finished University I was 21 I was very depressed and suddenly I viewed season 5 onward with totally different eyes I related so well with everything Buffy and the Scoobies were going through when they reached adulthood and the jokes were still funny, loads of TV shows you watch again and they've lost that shine and you sort of go "omg did I really watch this" with Buffy I'm so incredibly impressed every time I see it and so happy it has been a part of my life because no matter what you're experiencing you can relate to how the scoobies feel and it makes it easier (for me anyway).

I saw your video YEARS ago, and I still watch it. I SING ALONG all the time with this video, and this episode. NO ONE can watch it with me cause I am cray cray! I found this show once it came out, I was 7! lol... I was Bisexual, and I was just misunderstood. I always and still look to this show for guidance. I absolutely LOVE this show, my whole growing up I idolized this show, and quoted it, was a geek totally for it and didn't care! Me and one other person in my school loved it, and it was a guy named Justin. He always would watch it over the phone with me every Friday. He would say I was more of a "Faith" character, which I understand... but with a Buffy sense of humor. Plus LOVING Spike to like being OBSESSED almost... There is NO show like this sense it stopped or before or after! I always wanted to fight like her, talk like her, and be MYSELF. like her. I love Buffy always and forever, I grew up with her, and went through the motions with her, and it's a very special show to a lot of people out there, IM SINGING ALONG WITH YOY NAT! XO

I am sort of conflicted. I understand the importance of 4:3 aspect ratio in episodes like "The Body", but then again, "Restless" just looks so goshdarnit good in widescreen...

    • @alexwright4930
      @alexwright4930 5 років тому

@@daliden I think season 4 onwards is in widescreen on the European DVDs. Definitely the later seasons are anyway.
But based on Passion of the Nerd's latest video on the terrible HD remaster, the European DVD conversion to 16:9 was apparently way better than what they did on the HD remaster.

I highly recommend rewatching Buffy as an adult. I watched it when it first aired (it started when I was in 7th grade) and it was revolutionary for me on a lot of levels (hello same sex attraction!). However there's something about rewatching it as an adult that is very special. Not just for nostalgia, but also for seeing things in a new light. I bought the box set in 2010 and I still regularly rewatch it.
