Faith was and is one of the best villain/anti hero characters ever written. She had one of the best and most complete redemption arcs ever. Eliza was so freaking good ❤

Same. Buffy is Buffy; she's the story's hero, and I do love her character's journey throughout the show. But Faith, to me, was a more intriguing character. I liked her more. I would have loved a spinoff that centered on her.

What I did like was her relationship with the Mayor. That was a good pairing. No wonder the other slayers before her lost to Spike... they didn't have a Scooby crew helping w/ Wcraft, gathering archival info, etc.
When Faith fights Angelus and he thinks she is trying to defeat him. Only, she actually wants to make him drink her blood, and she has to keep fighting back while letting him beat her to a pulp seven times over first so that he doesn't get suspicious.

Faith is nothing like Catwoman. You want a Buffyverse version of Catwoman, it's Gwen. Completely self motivated professional thief with no particular regard for morality, but still has a clear line they won't cross. They're not comfortable with killing, for example. Faith is someone who tries to convince the world and herself that she has no moral compass, that she's all selfish desire. Free of weakness or guilt. Pure Id. This was going good for her until she found her line. Murder. Killing the deputy mayor brought out a moral compass and a guilt in her that she didn't know what to do with, and was scared of. She pushed it down, tried to hide it. Eventually found a way to avoid it completely by sinking into her darker impulses, by embracing this image of herself as this villain. Of course, that started to break down without the Mayor and being in Buffy's body gave her the chance for her moral compass, and coupled with it an intense self-hatred, to rise to the surface. Then we have suicidal tailspin. Then we have the alley scene in Five By Five, and her dealing with having to face her own moral compass head on, finally feeling the collecting weight of everything she's done. She tries to run, again, but eventually makes the choice to confess. To finally stand up and face her fears instead of running from them. That is not Catwoman. Not even slightly. Faith was a naive young woman who didn't know where her moral line was until she crossed it. Catwoman is an adult professional who knows exactly what she's willing to do to get the job done and what she's willing to stand against should the need arise.
Agreed! I think it would've been interesting...especially after she killed the mayor's assistant. It would've given the audience a chance to, not necessarily feel sympathetic for her, but to understand that her upbringing was intense and therefor her choices were somewhat doomed to be tainted. Plus, I would've really liked to see her wrestle that alligator. True buffy fans, hopefully you as well, will understand that reference ;)

I love the relationship that Faith and Angel have with each other. Not romantically of course, but Faith and Angel understand each other in a way that Buffy never could quite fathom. Which is understandable but Faith and Angel have both been to that dark place. Crossed the very thin line between right and wrong. They’ve taken a human life which as I quote from Angel “to kill without remorse, you feel like a god” (Don’t hold me to the exact quote but you get the gist of what he says) to them, there’s that blood lust, that taste for power because they both understood the extent of evil itself. Of darkness and pain and suffering. But then once they let it all in, all the horrible things they did, guilt I think personally as an opinion, is one of the worst pain you can feel. Because in that moment, you realise what you did, realise how terrible of a person you are, and all you can do is try to make up for the things you did knowing you can never ever take it back. I think Buffy doesn’t understand that, because she never really crossed that line. She never fully let the darkness take full control. Which yes there is strength in that of course. But I think true strength comes from carrying the things you did throughout your life knowing you can’t take it back, and choosing to try and make up for it anyway. In the hardest moments when you want to say fuck it and return to that darkness because in a way, it’s easier, they choose not too. Faith and Angel will always be the characters I truly relate with. Because they’re not your typical here to save the world type of hero like Buffy. They have darkness in them, one they fight with every day. That to me, is truly something to admire.
That's probably why Faith asked if they could have been together if things were different. I feel like they could have a really interesting and equally as intense relationship, though. They're both really alike, and Faith isn't afraid of his Angelus self.

If she could work so hard to make the evil Mayor happy, I can see that she would try to do the same with wanting to earn Angel's affection as well, by helping him to do good, in a way Buffy can't as she has her own life and has moved on. Maybe Angel wouldn't love Faith the way he loves Buffy, but it's naive to assume he wouldn't develop romantic feelings for her or watch over her in a similar protective way. Also, Faith is not afraid of evil Angelus, and could figure out how to connect to him even in that state, while Angelus couldn't really torture or manipulate her or take anything from her because she already has nothing. Maybe they could figure out a way to bring his soul back in a way that he couldn't lose it again or something.

Hayley Cubbins While Sarah's acting really was second to none personally I have never seen so much depth the way that Buffy/Sarah delievered. HOWEVER Faith was by far my favorite character as well. She was definitley a badass!
Eliza said it best, she was a girl with a STORY with a REASON for why she goes psycho AKA dark. The saddest part of the show was that not ONE adult bothered to learn that. Not ONE adult CARED about Faith as anything more than a way to make Buffy's life better. It is not hard to see why Faith was so willing to do anything for Mayor Wilkins. He treated her like a daughter. Like Giles did Buffy. What started out as Faith looking out for herself and a shot for revenge turned into her having something she always wanted/needed - Someone who accepted her just the way she was and cared about her. Someone who made her a priority. Who didn't view her as an afterthought like everyone else in Sunnydale. Plus, Buffy was insufferable, and self-righteous and a freaking hypocrite. For all of Faith's flaws, she was at least true to herself. I loved the show, LOVED Faith... Couldn't stand Buffy,.
Every good girl has a bad girl in her and visa versa. It’s just a matter of which side of you is stronger and it just depends on the day. Even though Faith was “wrong” (and fought hard for redemption in the end), she was a welcome change. I liked the fight scenes between the two of them. At the time you didn’t see two strong girls having a “real” fight scene against one another.
Faith lehane is my personal favorite character in Buffy and honestly I am pretty sure my favorite t.v. villian/hero that struggling duality. But I feel the roles were cast SPOT ON. For example nobody could've buffy or brought that depth to it in the way Sarah did and could.
Eliza turned it down. Though the pitch of her on a Bike with Principal Wood and ghost Spike didn't sound great. The Faith comics where she's in London with Giles and Angel were fantastic though
Everyone's like "Faith is Buffy's dark side" but no one mentions that Buffy could be Faith's good side. Faith's jealous rant when Buffy is chained and the fact that Faith wants to take Angel for herself shows she wants what Buffy has. But she can't do the old "want, take, have" because being good and having what Buffy has takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice, while Faith has already insisted she has problems with team work. She shuts people out. And being compared with Buffy, instead of being seen for her own goodness, hurts her more than anything. She can't be good without being compared with Buffy.
They didn't want to send Buffy to a [dark] place where they didn't like her anymore, but then we discover in season 7 that the Slayer will always be in a dark place. Faith may have been Buffy's "shadow self," but it seems like her presence was simply to delay the inevitable that all Slayers go through.
Faith is what happens when heros go beyond the call of duty in the wrong direction. It's like when superman finally let's his full power out and realises he can do what he wants with it in the universe that he turns bad. That being said she does eventually turn back to the light before she died so yeah totally man totally.
Tell me you don't understand the character, or know her backstory, without saying you don't understand the character or know her backstory. That is NOT who Faith is. She is sooooo much more complex than that, and so much more relatable than Buffy.

I feel like they both got "Jennifer Anistoned", a new term which means that they started a show looking curvy (well, as curvy as 96/98 would allow) and were likely told to lose weight because sporty/slender girls were considered the gold standard. I would like to say it's a bullshit gold standard, but let's be real: we arrived for Buffy/Faith's looks, but we stay for their character development and personalities. I remember how Faith's character really added so much more to the show when she appeared. I watched Buffy as a teen and even to this day, I still find that Faith is such an interesting and complex character, she draws out so much emotions when I watch the episodes she's in. I was 8 years old loving Buffy the vampire slayer . I was born in ‘94 lol . But faith was always my favorite that I went to go watch wrong turn for Eliza dushku . Not knowing how scary it was lol but still loved it for Eliza dushku

What was never acceptable to me- Wilkin's assistant was evil, totally loyal to evil, supporting the work of evil. Faith killed him accidentally and Faith goes dark side and is made irredeemable (at the time, they redeem her later in Angel). Faith was evil, totally loyal to evil, supporting the work of evil. Buffy stabbed her purposefully (with the intent to feed her to Angel which, between the stabbing and blood letting would most likely have killed her) and Buffy is the hero? Other then Buffy actively knowing Faith was on the wrong side, there isn't really much difference. Wilkin's assistant's murder was a total accident; circumstances made worse by Wesley calling in the Watcher Abusers. What made Buffy attempting to kill Faith to save her ex-boyfriend (who had/would later kill a SHIT TON of people) a righteous thing? Willow gets mad, flays Warren alive and tries to end the world. They sent her to rehab! Giles gets resolute, smothers Ben to death even though he's not evil, just inhabited with evil- no repercussions, no one ever even knows he did it. They certainly made it seem like the 'poor, working class' background was grounds for much harsher punishments for Faith. Which Buffy never stops doing, even after Faith is on her side. "Did she tell you how she used to kill people for fun?!" Uh, did Willow? Hypocrisy grates...
Faith wasn’t evil cause of that one kill. It’s because of how she was after multiple intervention attempts. And, like you said, she’s redeemed eventually anyway.
Let’s not forgot she shot Angel with the poison laced arrow. He was a force for the good. Amongst the other people she murdered she attempted to take out a main force for good.
Faith always remembers me to Calisto from Xena, a bad girl who wasn't bad but the actual hero push them to that , Xena more cause she killed Calisto's parents and was a murderer but Buffy left Faith alone and never let her get into the group , buffy was the vampire slayer and when Faith came she felt the thing that made her especial was gone cause someone else had that and Faith's personality and stories were more interesting and new than hers and after Faith killed the guy Buffy showed no empathy with her or intention to help her to get to process that , kill a person just cause you though it was a vampire ... jizz that's too fucked up and sad. Faith had Buffy abilities just like Calisto with Xena - the Chakram, the jumping, the great fight,etc-, both changed bodies in a 2-episodes-long but Xena showed remorse and empathy with Calisto even when Calisto was worse ( but Buffy was never a villian like Xena and Xena felt more guilt too, I know that) . They're great characters who find peace at the end and went to the good side and I could say a lot about them that is really deep and amazing. I have to admit Xena was more philosophic and deep but both are just great shows.
She didn't try to help Faith? Perhaps I saw another series and not Buffy, but she tried a lot to help her. Although Faith wasn't her friend, she tried, but she acted like a real bitch - I would not have been so patient with her...
IF you want more Faith. Read the Faith and Angel comics. After the season finally of him playing Twiligh, he kills Giles, and buffy rejects him and faith is their to pick up the pieces and takes him to England to restart a life and fight the forces of evil
If Faith got her own spin off her right hand man would 100% be Spike. Faith is the Spike of vampires. Both love the fight and will seek it out. Both never would back down from any fight and won’t stop till everything is dead
I disagree, too. We also see Faith when she's not pretending to be Buffy. Sarah just acted like a more in-your-face Kathryn Mertuil. Not diminishing the love I have for them.
Versatility is all well and good but I'd rather have an actor who can do one role so well that it's masterful. It's probably not great for their career but it's better for my enjoyment! I think that was the case for SMG - she was typecast as Buffy because she was amazing as Buffy (even just going off the back of The Body).
All i have to say is i like her style and the way she was straightforward in buffy, she's definitely one of my favorite characters, none of the other characters in the sitcom experience hardships the way faith did, remember she came to sunnydale on her own with no watcher because hers got killed, no father figure no real family and friends, her and buffy may have been rivals but one of my favorite lines is when she told her you have no idea what it's like on the other side.

What started out as Faith looking out for herself and a shot for revenge turned into her having something she always wanted/needed - Someone who accepted her just the way she was and cared about her. Someone who made her a priority. Who didn't view her as an afterthought like everyone else in Sunnydale.
Plus, Buffy was insufferable, and self-righteous and a freaking hypocrite. For all of Faith's flaws, she was at least true to herself. I loved the show, LOVED Faith... Couldn't stand Buffy,.

Every good girl has a bad girl in her and visa versa. It’s just a matter of which side of you is stronger and it just depends on the day. Even though Faith was “wrong” (and fought hard for redemption in the end), she was a welcome change. I liked the fight scenes between the two of them. At the time you didn’t see two strong girls having a “real” fight scene against one another.
This is great. Too bad it didn't include the Angel episodes as well.
Faith lehane is my personal favorite character in Buffy and honestly I am pretty sure my favorite t.v. villian/hero that struggling duality. But I feel the roles were cast SPOT ON. For example nobody could've buffy or brought that depth to it in the way Sarah did and could.

Everyone's like "Faith is Buffy's dark side" but no one mentions that Buffy could be Faith's good side. Faith's jealous rant when Buffy is chained and the fact that Faith wants to take Angel for herself shows she wants what Buffy has. But she can't do the old "want, take, have" because being good and having what Buffy has takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice, while Faith has already insisted she has problems with team work. She shuts people out. And being compared with Buffy, instead of being seen for her own goodness, hurts her more than anything. She can't be good without being compared with Buffy.
I've never watched a single episode of Buffy, but Faith is one of the sexiest characters of all time.

They didn't want to send Buffy to a [dark] place where they didn't like her anymore, but then we discover in season 7 that the Slayer will always be in a dark place. Faith may have been Buffy's "shadow self," but it seems like her presence was simply to delay the inevitable that all Slayers go through.

I feel like they both got "Jennifer Anistoned", a new term which means that they started a show looking curvy (well, as curvy as 96/98 would allow) and were likely told to lose weight because sporty/slender girls were considered the gold standard. I would like to say it's a bullshit gold standard, but let's be real: we arrived for Buffy/Faith's looks, but we stay for their character development and personalities.

I remember how Faith's character really added so much more to the show when she appeared. I watched Buffy as a teen and even to this day, I still find that Faith is such an interesting and complex character, she draws out so much emotions when I watch the episodes she's in. She played her character so well.

What was never acceptable to me-
Wilkin's assistant was evil, totally loyal to evil, supporting the work of evil. Faith killed him accidentally and Faith goes dark side and is made irredeemable (at the time, they redeem her later in Angel).
Faith was evil, totally loyal to evil, supporting the work of evil. Buffy stabbed her purposefully (with the intent to feed her to Angel which, between the stabbing and blood letting would most likely have killed her) and Buffy is the hero? Other then Buffy actively knowing Faith was on the wrong side, there isn't really much difference. Wilkin's assistant's murder was a total accident; circumstances made worse by Wesley calling in the Watcher Abusers.
What made Buffy attempting to kill Faith to save her ex-boyfriend (who had/would later kill a SHIT TON of people) a righteous thing?
Willow gets mad, flays Warren alive and tries to end the world. They sent her to rehab! Giles gets resolute, smothers Ben to death even though he's not evil, just inhabited with evil- no repercussions, no one ever even knows he did it.
They certainly made it seem like the 'poor, working class' background was grounds for much harsher punishments for Faith. Which Buffy never stops doing, even after Faith is on her side. "Did she tell you how she used to kill people for fun?!" Uh, did Willow? Hypocrisy grates...

Faith wasn’t evil cause of that one kill. It’s because of how she was after multiple intervention attempts. And, like you said, she’s redeemed eventually anyway.
Let’s not forgot she shot Angel with the poison laced arrow. He was a force for the good. Amongst the other people she murdered she attempted to take out a main force for good.

Faith always remembers me to Calisto from Xena, a bad girl who wasn't bad but the actual hero push them to that , Xena more cause she killed Calisto's parents and was a murderer but Buffy left Faith alone and never let her get into the group , buffy was the vampire slayer and when Faith came she felt the thing that made her especial was gone cause someone else had that and Faith's personality and stories were more interesting and new than hers and after Faith killed the guy Buffy showed no empathy with her or intention to help her to get to process that , kill a person just cause you though it was a vampire ... jizz that's too fucked up and sad. Faith had Buffy abilities just like Calisto with Xena - the Chakram, the jumping, the great fight,etc-, both changed bodies in a 2-episodes-long but Xena showed remorse and empathy with Calisto even when Calisto was worse ( but Buffy was never a villian like Xena and Xena felt more guilt too, I know that) . They're great characters who find peace at the end and went to the good side and I could say a lot about them that is really deep and amazing. I have to admit Xena was more philosophic and deep but both are just great shows.

IF you want more Faith. Read the Faith and Angel comics. After the season finally of him playing Twiligh, he kills Giles, and buffy rejects him and faith is their to pick up the pieces and takes him to England to restart a life and fight the forces of evil
If Faith got her own spin off her right hand man would 100% be Spike. Faith is the Spike of vampires. Both love the fight and will seek it out. Both never would back down from any fight and won’t stop till everything is dead

Eliza was better as Buffy than Sarah was as Faith. Both were perfect for their respective role, though. Just goes to show who's more versatile.

I disagree, too. We also see Faith when she's not pretending to be Buffy. Sarah just acted like a more in-your-face Kathryn Mertuil. Not diminishing the love I have for them.
Versatility is all well and good but I'd rather have an actor who can do one role so well that it's masterful. It's probably not great for their career but it's better for my enjoyment! I think that was the case for SMG - she was typecast as Buffy because she was amazing as Buffy (even just going off the back of The Body).

Wow I just realized something else TVD ripped off BTVS. Katherine switching with Elena.
TVD ripped so much from BTVS. Basically everything once the plot of the founding families was wrapped.
All i have to say is i like her style and the way she was straightforward in buffy, she's definitely one of my favorite characters, none of the other characters in the sitcom experience hardships the way faith did, remember she came to sunnydale on her own with no watcher because hers got killed, no father figure no real family and friends, her and buffy may have been rivals but one of my favorite lines is when she told her you have no idea what it's like on the other side.
I wish someone had a good Faith character analysis on YT about her whole story from both shows.
