The finished product is worthy of a theatrical release with 9 months shooting and production and a $20 million dollar budget. (Then imagine the terror of having to cut it for rebroadcast.) The mustard segment alone is one of the greatest, boldest, expensive 14 seconds of air ever conceived.

Personally, the Anya wedding dress song in one of the more awesome episodes "Selfless" extremely looks like is was culled from OMWF. It even references the mustard song.

@Julia Conway It's very likely he would just own one. It really seem like Spike ought to play guitar (And James know how to play guitar which would have made it easier!). He's an artistic middle/upper-middle class Victorian. He would have likely been taught music, people used to sing and play pianos in their homes, and church had hymn books with songs written out with the staff. (Guitar is also a traditional European instrument used in informal and folk music). Even as a vampire he's been connected to the music, in particular rock/punk and counter-culture, he is INTRODUCED comparing the crucifiction to woodstock and mentions we was at woodstock (he also enjoyed getting high after drinking from a flower child) and apparently "Billy Idol stole his look from him." He listens to the Sex pistols and the Ramones (somewhere he HAS to have the original double LP to London Calling). Even if he didn't learn guitar when he was alive, it's seems likely I would pick it up some time in the early 20th century 1920s/30s when because an instrument used in popular music (Jazzy, blues used guitar, like Django Reinhardt or folk musicians like Woody Guthrie) and he's had most of a century to practice. For some strange reason in season 1/2 they made ANGLE all sophisticated, but mostly Angle killed a bunch of people and than lived like a hermit. Spike has the education, past as an poet, and over a century of following counter cultural movements, a seem more likely to be musical, literate, and artistic and Angle ... he like Barry Manole, which is why Spike isn't happy he liked his poems.
Great show and my favorite episode of the series. Mr. Whedon delivered an hour of pure entertainment. My only complaint is it should have been two hours!
Re-watching this show again, I've lost track of how many times. I don't think any other show has ever left me with so many "favorite" episodes. It's so good.
Some G.D. genius had the foresight to capture this, the bare elements of - and who'd have thunk it, who could have in any way imagined it - what would become the greatest episode in the history of television.
Every show he has ever made has been gold. Buffy,Angel, Firefly & Dollhouse. All of them. I just wish Firefly & Dollhouse hadn't been canceled and had come to a natural conclusions instead of being rushed. Joss had 7 seasons planned out for both 😢 oh what could have been.
Such a masterpiece of a show, so underrated in its layers, its successful juggling of several genres simultaneously, and its emotional impact on viewers of all genders and ages. Quick glancers might have just looked at this show and said "Eh, just some wimpy teeny-bopper show." But it is not, it's simply a masterpiece if you care to watch it intently all the way through and pay attention without presumption. Pretty much no show on this channel (CW, formerly WB) or any channel since has been able to do all that it's done all at once as carefully and successfully and have as soulful of an impact on its viewers. There was so much heart put into this entire series.
If you search best musical episodes for tv shows this pops up on every single one of those lists, literally taking the first spot in each one. This episode, series really, is genius and amazingly crafted.
In this show i always liked Tara because she is pure, natural and kind of "fairy aspect" with no anorexia body. The actress seems really natural and fun too.
Almost a perfect crew for a musical. Tony and James both musicians, Amber has a really sweet voice as well as Emma, Michelle is a great dancer and so on... One of the best episodes of the show

@@maggiemakgill But he didn't play the guitar so boo-hoo.
@@maggiemakgill Wow, insightful. Thanks, I've many similar thoughts about Spike.
@@cannabiscupjudge Wow thanks, most people tell not to think about these things too much : )
I always loved Tara’s solo song. It has a 60’s hippie feel to it 😊
i'm not crying, you're crying.
19:08 Joss and Amber dancing is just beautiful. I love this episode, everyone did an amazing job!
Nah, amber seems really uncomfortable.
@@Uhohlisa Knowing what we know about Whedon now, I'd have to agree. 🥺
If Tara was a real person, I'd give up men just like Willow did. & Her voice is absolutely heavenly.
Who wouldn't? Tara's just perfect :3
I'd date Willow.
LACwriter Again,
who wouldn't?
+NarutoFirestarLoLz
Her enormous brain time travelled just to come back for Tara - it was worth it :-)
Тара такая милая,Но Спайк это что то
Great show and my favorite episode of the series. Mr. Whedon delivered an hour of pure entertainment. My only complaint is it should have been two hours!
Re-watching this show again, I've lost track of how many times. I don't think any other show has ever left me with so many "favorite" episodes. It's so good.
Some G.D. genius had the foresight to capture this, the bare elements of - and who'd have thunk it, who could have in any way imagined it - what would become the greatest episode in the history of television.
Say what you want about Joss Whedon, but he’s super talented and I’m glad we got such a great show from him.
I love Joss. The accusations were stupid and bogus. Such a pointless smear campaign. 😢
Fascinating to watch the "movie magic" that happens and how much SO MUCH work it is! Really makes me respect the cast and CREW even more!!!! 👏👏👏👏
Nice to know that ASH was in part responsible for this great episode. His Behind Blue Eyes and is Frankenfurter in RHPS are amazing as well
Such a masterpiece of a show, so underrated in its layers, its successful juggling of several genres simultaneously, and its emotional impact on viewers of all genders and ages.
2021 still watching :D and lovin all of it, Once More With Feeling :D Spike is so awesome! :D
In this show i always liked Tara because she is pure, natural and kind of "fairy aspect" with no anorexia body. The actress seems really natural and fun too.
"Anorexia body" is a very insensitive term... anorexia is a very serious condition
@@mmmmmmmm1942 ^^^^^^^
I didn't like Kennedy
I see what you mean they was looking really thin i think tara looked quite healthy
@@danielleentwistle9130you know, now that you mention it, SMG is SO thin in seasons 5-7. Compare her in season 1 and then look at her here.
James singing makes me undeniably happy!
Seeing spike naked makes me undeniably happy!
@@chrisbreedy2314pardon?
Almost a perfect crew for a musical. Tony and James both musicians, Amber has a really sweet voice as well as Emma, Michelle is a great dancer and so on... One of the best episodes of the show
Sweet's song and The mustard moment are tied with number 1of my favorite things in this episode.
Best hour of television ever. Breaks my heart a little to watch it now.
This whole bts video just shows how much fun they all had making not just this episode which is a master piece on its own, but the show as a whole. Even in 2022 i still come back and watch this video because it brings me so much joy to see how this was made and how much love and thought was put into it.
This episode introduced me to the very talented, tony award wininng,Actor, singer, and dancer,Hinton Battle, whom plays the demon from the underworld, Sweet.Thank you,Tolga Nazik, for sharing this rare behind the scenes of 'Buffy the vampire slayer ep:Once more with feeling'....This is as fun to watch as the episode is!
Geez he had magic. Seriously everybody just did so much and wow... golden.
alway funny to hear Anthony Head having such a working class accent irl
More like middle class/London
Isaac Bowen yeah his normal voice is sort of the voice he had in the episode where him and Joyce ate the chocolate and he turned back into "Ripper"
Mon Mothma nah his regular accent is total scum. Like proper working class.
@@kaywade115 I don't think that's true at all, this is just a non-posh middle-class accent and also - hey! what's "total scum" supposed to mean, there's nothing wrong with working class accents.
They made it look effortless but so much time and work went into this. Love this show .
When Giles sings “Tell Me”… always hits hard.
Makes me appreciate all the more, actors and everyone else that put together excellent entertainment like this. Such a labor of love and dedication to their craft.
The same guy who directed this whole series, is also responsible for Firefly, arguably the best sci-fi series besides Star Trek, and the cinematic brilliance of The Avengers 1 &2. Joss Whedon is the godfather of modern sci-fi :D
Jarl Lillebø agree with everything but the second avengers
Jarl Lillebø don't forget about Angel!
Dollhouse, firefly, Angel, dr. Horrible’s, the avengers fucking sucked but we can overlook that
ew
Turned out to have feet of clay. 😝
Anthony Stewart Head is the best singer :)
He performed in musicals in UK. He did a good stint as Frank in Rocky Horror
Played this episode for a friend who'd never seen the show. She was intrigued and it was objectively entertaining. After doing a full re-watch of the show with her up to this episode, totally different response. Giddy, bawling, floored. "That was pivotal! I had no idea!" :)
I showed my 68 yr old mother this episode, and she loves it too!
I really love this episode so much, this was an absolute gem to see.
This was the best episode of Buffy of all time, it brings back emotions to this day. What a fantastic show it was.❤
Que trabajo de todos para que salga todo bien!❤
I love Giles voice his song put me in tears you could just feel what he's feeling
Worst part of this was that Giles didn’t get more chances to sing
The duet is incredible though
This is my favourite musical episode of any series EVER
I sometimes find myself humming the 'I'm under your spell' song even after all this time, fantastic episode, love it:)
Haven't watched this episode or been around Buffy for at least 3+ years now, still remember that at 11:27, Tara(Amber) collides with a pillar next to her during her spin, putting her off her steps for a bit, but it's cut out :p I could probably dissect this episode still without rewatching it first, that's just how much I love it :D
James and his guitar at 6:50 (you're welcome) and everything that follows. *.* oh why...
Buffy’s songs are my favourite. Girl was struggling, this is a fitting episode.
But the Tara Giles duet is also beautiful. Thanks for the behind the scenes!
When Joss spins Amber, that's like my favourite thing ever :D
I kind of wonder if they had something going. Post revelations about his abuse allegations
@@AbbyJasmine-xu1kg I dont think there was anything going on between them .Amber Benson was dating Adam Busch who played Warren for quite a few years
Amber is so adorable oh my god
I love that they put so much plot progression into the songs. You can't skip this one if you don't like musicals. So much happens. uh, is it still ok to like this?
6:14 she's sitting on his lap that's so cute!!
it creeps me out a bit though, there are too many legs and he looks a bit too cheerful ^^
@@raxacoon why does everything have to be "creepy" they have known each other for a long time and he's smiling because of the conversation
@@raxacoonnot creepy at all. They were like family. Not gross.
Marsters, Dushku and Head are the reasons I used to love this show and I still love to watch 'em even in 2021
GOLD! I own the cast album and love this episode! The behind the scenes is gold! Thank you!
Это потрясающий эпизод,я была поражено насколько качественно были отработаны номера,танцы,а какая красивая музыка,это целое произведение достойное отдельных наград!!!!
Thanks so much for uploading! Seen this episode a lot but never watched all the BTS. I know Anthony was in half the footage for scenes he’s not in because he was so excited to be doing a musical, bless him
I personally don’t like musicals, but this one I love ❤❤❤
Me as well!
absolutely love the Once More With Feeling
episode . I like all the songs . spike's song is the one i like most.
I'd forgotten how much I had enjoyed this ep.
This is one of my favorite episodes!
It’s not in this vid, but when Anthony and Amber join into a duet about not wanting to leave - that’s where it gets me.
6:18 to 6:30 God I love Alyson Hannigan!!!
I'd love for this show to come back
This was the only musical I could sit through. I still listen to Spike & Giles songs. On my phone now in 2021. :-)
and the duet.
Wait so in band candy when Giles is a teen that was him not putting on an accent?!? Woah
Hard to think this is episode now 17 years old, but still fun as hell to watch.
22 now.
damn spike them muscles.
I just paid for a Hulu subscription and now YT is suggesting things I haven’t thought about in years.
Wow! Thank you for posting this. For me, it was a wonderful flashback to a great time with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I still listen to this CD quite often.
Giles sings like one of those 70 rock bands, love it
James is actually a great singer even before this making him nail it better then the others even though the others did do some justice
Haha awww. Anthony laughing at 0:17 love that man he's so funny
Oh God, this is so cool! I wore this huge smirk for all the video long! James, Amber and Anthony really rocks!!
Oh my gosh Nicholas Brendon on those lyrics 16:57 even out of character he's funny
I'm actually pretty sure that's Nicholas's twin Kelly who they brought in to sing for this ep.
Jennifer Lawless, Kelly wasn’t credited with this episode. He was only credited with one, The Replacement.
Jennifer Lawless no it was Nicholas. He even talks about the episode.
Actin’ like Chandler before there was a Chandler lol
@@Emdooey Chandler had been around for a few years before Buffy even aired lol
My favorite episode
i miss buffy the vampire slayer wahhhh

Hearing James start "Rest in Peace." & it cut off I kept singing it to myself while I am at my office working - pretty sure a few coworkers heard me.
