I have to admit I always found Buffy and Angel boring. These 2 had amazing chemistry and James has such great comic timing. Spike was my absolute favorite character on Buffy.

I personally think Bangel was end game but Buffy and Spike's bickering was one of the best things about the show to me. IMO, Buffy had to get to such a low point psychologically speaking in order to even give Spike a chance that I can't ship this.
@@AD-ry7br Spike had to have a soul in order for Buffy to give him a chance. Let's face it, Buffy never would have given Angel a chance if he didn't have a soul either. Anyway, Buffy ended up choosing Spike over Angel (in season 10) and then left it open for them to get back together again in the future. But she never gets back with Angel, not since season 3.
So out of curiosity, what makes you think Bangel are endgame? Personally, all I see is first love, not last, and I can't ship them because Angel had to be forced with a soul to love Buffy.

@@moonystic9417 1000% agree. My take on it is that Spike loves Buffy exponentially more than Angel ever did and it's clear as day in Angel's behavior whenever he loses his soul. As Willow said, Buffy was still the only thing he thought about, but he was ashamed at his relationship with her. "She made me feel human..."
Then, on the other hand you have Spike. A demon who developed feelings for a genuinely Good Person™️ to the point that he willingly un-demonized himself.
Had the roles been reversed, and Spike had fallen in love with her THEN lost his soul, can you really see Spike trying to kill her? Or would he do everything in his power to convince her to go evil with him, and, failing that, stay by her side regardless?
This is the William that returned to "save" his mother vs the Liam who returned to slaughter his whole family.

Moreover, the Spike who arrived in Sunnydale is the monster *Angel* created, not the real Spike (/William). Buffy has brought his suppressed humanity back out. He relearned humanity through her, but it's always been there.
Angel, on the other hand, aka the product of Liam, is Angelus w/ a soul, not the other way around.
"Angel" didn't exist before Liam turned into a vampire and then was cursed with a soul. It's not just a nickname to him, he literally claims he's Angel now. He NEEDS that nickname to prove that these are 3 separate entities. That he's not Liam nor Angelus. But again, "Angel" is a made up entity. In reality, Angelus is still there and always have been. All the shitty things Angel's done WITH a soul and stood behind only solidify that.
I think deep down Buffy knows that too. She's never ever, not once, called Angel Angelus when he lost his soul. "There must be some part of you inside that still remembers who you are." She believes/knows they're not separate entities, so it goes the other way around too. Otherwise Angel wouldn't be able to reemerge when recursed, and the same goes for Angelus. The quote you brought proves that too.
"Spike" didn't exist before Angel took him under his wing, and even this new persona was just to escape his past as a rejected loser and not to lie to himself about separate entities. "I was through living by society's rules. Decided to make a few of my own."
Spike and William are one and the same. Spike" IS just a nickname. That's why he's still called "Spike" even after regaining a soul. And why he hardly even changed... Because a soul doesn't change who you are, it simply enables the levels of humanity a soulless being doesn't have access to...
Which is bad news for Angel, given what he's trying to achieve. He's not Angel, he's Liam who turned into a vampire and then was forced with humanity. He's "Angel." A lie.
** I see that the person I asked 7 months ago why they think Bangel are endgame hasn't replied... What a shame, I'm genuinely curious. Every time I ask that (or why they think Bangel are soulmates) the answer I get is either easily debunkable evidence referring mostly to the seasons when Buffy was just a kid, and it's always filled with cherry picking and contradictions, or "I don't know, it just feels that way" (feelings are not evidence).

I honestly gotta say Spike's introduction is way better than Angel's. Angel's introduction was creepy Spike's introduction was not at all creepy. Honestly Angel and Buffy are just plain boring but Spike and Buffy fun. Evil Angel aka Angelus way more interesting than Angel. Either way Spike is by far my favorite character and vampire.

I found spike far more compelling. Angel was cursed with a soul. Spike sought one to prove himself reformed for Buffy. He was a villain, was compelled to changed, then chose to when he discovered he was no longer leashed with technology to remain good. Angel didn’t choose much of anything but weakness knowing full well when he chose to be with Buffy on multiple occasions he would turn evil. That’s a derangement. Spike was deranged and wicked and chose to stay reformed out of the lust, or love he felt for both Buffy and his kinship with Dawn in the catering for her when he felt they both lost Buffy after her sacrifice. In the end, the love he felt for Buffy though never truly reciprocated left Spike the hero she needed to save the world. Not Angel. And even after that it was Spikes torn in Angels side that forced him to self reflect how far down the hellmouth he had called at wolf ram and heart. And resulting in that final battle heroes again.

I'll always be on the Team Faith with all the Buffy/Faith subtext there was in the show. However, if forced to choose between Spike and Angel, Spike wins hands down. He loved her before he had a soul, actively worked to better himself (sometimes without making the choice to even do so), stumbled, made mistakes, yet still worked past them to become a better man.
