There are those who feel that the one thing holding back ATLA was the fact that it was on a kids network. But I personally think that is what gave it it's greatest strength from a writing perspective, this episode is proof. Having those constraints means they had to be creative and subtle in the ways they depicted the darker aspects of this world; because of that it left a lot of room for interpretation which is far more interesting and engaging than just showing brutality.
a certain live action adaptation has a thing or two to learn from that..
@@deadringerrrlike is it so hard to follow a script..
@tShuka absolutely it is very difficult to make things from a cartoon that sometimes makes it a little too exaggerated will be hard to make in a realistic world
Zuko alone is a great episode! There’s a reason why it’s a fan favorite.
he really should’ve just let that childhood epiphany moment happen in his head, he did not need to expose his government name like that 😭
Atcually it was Ursa who most likely killed Azulon, in exchange for Zuko's life
The kid has only known war woth the Fire Nation. His parents and probably dead brother have only known war with the Fire Nation. A day or two of interacting with someone eho clearly was deceiving them from the get go isn't erasing a centry of hate. Ues, Zuko saved the boy. But, Zuko's family are directly responsible for all of this families woes. So, yes, they hate him.
Azulon was a SOB, but at least he had some honor. He was angered by Ozai suggesting they kick Iroh in the teeth dir9ng his darkness days. And, Azulon used the word "beloved" son when describing Lu Ten. I think he felt genuine sorrow at the loss of his first grandson.
Hecknows Ozai is not fit to rule. In fact, from Azulon's view Ozai and his offspring are the worst. I believe he ordered the death of Zuko to fracture the family. But, he never thought they'd come for him covertly.
This is a fantastic episode. It plays out like a samurai film.
This is for anyone who hasn't read the comic and just wants to know what happened to Ursa.
Ozai obviously wanted the throne to himself, even tho the rightful successor should have been Iroh. After proposing that to his father, Azulon, he ordered that Zuko be killed. Ozai then ordered Ursa to poison Azulon, and leave, and in exchange, Zuko will not be harmed. Ursa accepted and she left. She started her own family in the earth kingdom, I think, and went to the mother of faces, to get a new face and forgot all about Zuko and Azula. Since Iroh was still at war, and was coming home they crowned Ozai as the fire lord. Now, I'm not sure, but in this episode they mention something about Azulon wanted Ozai to be the fore lord, but I think if it's true, Ozai faked the will. The comic dives deeper into what happened, but this is more of a summary.
2:45 Mmm that's actually not just a cow xD. He was right, it's a pigcow. Creators said animators went too far with it.
The knife reads "Made in Earth Kingdom". This is the least subtle the show has even been when comparing the Earth Kingdom to China.
Its very interesting, what we are seeing here is what peoples first impression of Zuko at the beginning of the show would have been, but now having followed him we know the other perspective also
What happened to Azulon is revealed in the comics after the series .w.
I dont like it. It feels like they are expanding on mysteries that didnt need to be answered. Like with Zukos mom. You really just dont know what happened. Its the perfect mystery and that comic kinda just ruined it. It feels like they are making more for the wrong reasons, just to milk the one good thing they ever made :/
@@teunvanderveen6477 Then just don't read it .-.
And Ursa's disappearance was a big deal, specially by the end of Book 3 :T
@@vlcharlie4884 I just don't like it because the stories they wrote after the series are complete trash XD
@@MikeMozzaro Is your opinion, but k :T
One of THE BEST episodes!
The homage to western cinema, which itself have roots to Asian anime and cinema, is just an overall fantastic thing.
This is a really good episode. I’d say probably definitely in at least everyone’s top 10 if not top 5. Also, when can we expect more Ninjago?
One of my favourite episode
