Where was Fred when you were catching those Ladyfish? He could have had a nice snack...but noooooo...he wanted that keeper Pompano!!! You're spoiling Fred!! 😂😂😂😂😂
I am 63 was born in FL moved to TX then NC have fished all my life never did any surf fishing due to your videos I am thinking about trying it out.
Thank you very much for starting this video with "Good Morning" instead "hey, what's up guys" like everyone else.
I’ll be in the comments for the first hour of upload! Drop a comment and I’ll reply! #StayBummy
Catching fish in the surf is just like catching trout in a fast mountain stream. There’s just nothing like it. Great video
Thanks for watching! And it is always rewarding!
Awesome, glad the beaches are open again!
Great videos! Keep it up!! Love fishing from the beach. So underrated. I spend my summers in Fort Myers..walk the beach and also catch multiple species. Tight lines!
Enjoyed the video. I am so thankful that the beaches, and businesses are opening up. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for watching dude!
You actually are what gave me inspiration to want to fish the beach when I was on vacation this past month ! I caught a lot of different species and landed a big shark on the beach ! Had it all on video but the file got corrupt and I only have part 1 sadly ! But will have more beach videos to come soon!
You and Brant are my two favorite UA-cam channels.! The next best thing to being there.!
Another great video, glad to see you back at the beach
I'm the same way buddy. Catching fish from land is so phenomenal! Great keeper.
Great ta see you back on the beach ,catching dinner , having fun ,and staying safe. Hope this CV-19 ends very soon for all of us. Take care Matt , Tom Daytona Beach, FL.
Hey man just want to let
You know ive been Watching all of your videos thanks to you I learned how to make a pompano rig and caught my first pompano and a lot of other fish my first time out surf fishing. I live in Florida and that’s we’re I fish at. Thanks to you I found a new love for surf fishing just subbed! Thanks yout videos means a lot to me💪🏽
Glad to see ya back in the water. Will be there in 4 weeks!!! DADGUM!!!!
Couple half gallon milk containers work well in coolers and are cheaper than ice. Easy to clean up a little spray down with water and refreeze. Good little video Matthew. 👍👍👍
Will you pass happy mother's day to your wife and it's awesome to see you back doing what you love. Love your videos
Dude your getting me ready for when we come down! Trip can't get here fast enough!
From the beach...
Boom!!
Its great to see you out and about...
Pompano Time!!
From one Bama fishing combatant to another, great video.
Can’t wait to book a trip with you this summer!!!
Another great video! Nice pomp at the end.
Great day fishing- good for my soul, till we can get out there in NJ again!
Glad I came across ur channel. I lived at the Wharf for 5 years before moving to Hawaii. Been nice remembering good ole GS and OBA! If you like the gulf coast you’d freak in Hawaii!! Aloha🤙🏼
Blessings Mr Bummy... headed to the Panama City beach area in july.. novice beach fisherman and have learned so much from your awesome videos. What would be biting in Mid July?? I have fished in Navarre and had some luck on the pier but never caught anything from the shore. Tackle tips?? Thanks again for so much good information and keep it coming for people like me. Tim from Indiana.
Great video, IT Must Be Lady s Day, I went fishing yesterday in the PCB area , and first thing in the morning that was biting was Lady fish & blue fish, I had to weed threw them first to get to the pomps, but it still turn out to be a great day, I had limit out, I also see that it was a great day for u as well, it's good to see us back on the beach,& Fred was waiting,,, be safe & God bless,,,,
Great video Matt hope to fish with you someday. It's on my bucket list. You might want to make a video fishing with ear ball jigs. A great lure that a lot of people have never used. I use the nekid ball jig and find it catches most inshore fish, especially pompano.
Coming down this week thanks for jig tip .
So glad to have you back on the beach Matt. Nice video 👍 Hopefully here in a couple weeks I'm going to be fishing for poompino in Pensacola.
Stay bummy.
Thanks! And I hope you can make it down!
Could you make a vid on identifying good places to fish on the beach and how to identify the bars, holes, rips, troughs, etc. I think that would be a great vid and very helpful.
I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;
for your promises are backed
Bought some of the new style FishBites you are endorsing. I like using white curly tail Gulp on a 1/4 oz so these new Fish Bites should be perfect... Need to get some standard bite strips. Love catching and eating Mackrel. Nice Pomp... Can't beat em.
Three weeks ago I caught the four largest Pompano of my life from a NC beach! Never have I seen much less caught Pompano over 3 lbs and did it four times. I also caught my PB Speckled Trout, Whiting and Flounder. I wonder if the fact that far fewer people are fishing this year has something to do with this unusual fishing. Whatever the reason I loved it. For once I caught larger Pompano in NC than you did in Alabama! LOL
Just glad to see you back, makes selling insurance in central Alabama go down easier being able to watch you live a dream. Hope to fish with you in the fall
Thanks! It’s so good to be back at home!
I thought I was going to see the ladder. Nice hookup on that Pomp. He wasn't getting away!
Thanks for the video.
Lol it would have been the perfect day for it. This was like the Second day beaches were open and I knew I’d have to walk a long ways. Only reason I didn’t drag it out.
The ducks land in the decoys just as you pour that first cup of coffee on a cold day .
Hey brother I take 2 liter soda bottles filled with water and 2 tea spoons of salt and freeze them. They work good in a cooler and you can reuse them. Nice day of fishing and a great video
Hey Bama, I bet if the water was more crystal you would have had many more Pomps. But what do I know. It's Fishing. You have heard this many times as we all have. A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Sometimes, LOL.
Any advice on building on a custom surf rod such as the do's and don'ts of building a solid surf rod for the east coast and the gulf?
Awesome video, that was a nice pomp you got there at the end
I was pleased with it. It was nice to just get a keeper on the jig.
Open beach is awesome, enjoy.🐟👍
Thanks! Glad to be back!
New sub!!! Greetings from CA. Love your vids
..Glad to see you back at the beach..ladies beware..lol..great video..keep safe..
Dude you’re making me nervous being in that water at feeding time for sharks. LOL!
What rod and reel combo were you using? I'm always worried about getting salt water in them when I wade in to about waist deep and fish.
What set up you got on your line, swivel? Any weights? Im a noob to salt water fishing, i rented a pole before but now im getting my self my own one.
I really enjoy watching your channel and I would like to know if it's ok to use a braided line for a leader?
Coming down to orange beach and gshores on the 1st of june. Lived there for 10 years and want to go fishing. Do you do payed surf trips?
2 questions. Have you shown us how you prefer to tie line to leader? And without ice and out in the surf would you ever put the fish on a stringer? Thanks and I appreciate you!
Nice video, thanks! what time of the morning was it?
Love your vids man! Just submitted a request to book a trip with you! Subscribed as well!
keep some instant ice packs in your backpack and you'll always have "ice" when you need it.
i have a question about whether or not I should actually use/fish with an antique penn reel. its probably 30-40 years old. It still works great but you can't exactly buy parts for those reels so i'm hesitant about putting it back on a rod. Would you use it if you had one?
Super cool video. Never tried throwing jigs from the surf . Hopefully we can get down there soon . Haven’t seen Fred in awhile. I miss that stupid bird .
What do you recommend most when fishing on the surf and pier?
Joey Antonelli post a video today too, he would have loved the Lady Fish you were throwing back. He was using them to catch shark.
Are you near orange beach? I’m headed down there in about a week to fish. Any pointers or anything would help. I watch a lot of saltwater fishing videos but I’ve only done it a few times
Where do you get those jigs from? I can only find the ones with no teaser
Just wondering if you ever use a bait casting rod and reel?
Bama Beach Bum what do you put to the rig with hair? fish bait, what is fishbait? where I can get it?
Damn that ice 🤣🤣🤣
As much as my taste buds shrivel up when I realize I've hooked a ladyfish - they are a lot of fun to catch.
Good bait, plus you can make fish cakes with em
Went to the pier on the 8th, ladyfish were everywhere
How heavy are those jigs? Can you toss them a good distance?
Awesome Video!!!
Thanks man!
What oz jigs were you using?
That is a calm ocean.
SAVE THE GALLON MILK JUG AND FREEZE IN UPRIGHT POSITION LEAVING 1 INCH OF AIR IN TOP !!! AND YOU CAN DRINK IT TOO !!
Nice!💪🏼💪🏼
Will be there in 3 weeks. Save some fish for me!
I always go to those ice vending machines and cut out stores on ice and normally cheaper and you get 20 pounds of ice
What kind of jig you using
Just wondering why you were fishing jigs with one pole here instead of the 4 poles and fleas etc like you usually do?
Nice day of fishing 👍
Thanks! It was a fun morning for sure!
What weight is the wacky jig?
“ That’s a crazy lady fish, cya dude”
Do the redfish bite at this time of the year down there?
Great vid man, but one question, how am I supposed to remember to stay bummy if you don't tell me at the end?! Lol have fun out there bro!
NICE!!!!
Het Bud I hope yo ou read this as much as you fish please get some water bottles and freeze them large ones preferred , but what ever your cooler size that will work best for ya always have four or five waiting
What weight for the jig?
Love ur video
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
@@BamaBeachBum I really like to watch your every video you are awesome
Hey man I love your vids. What are some good surf rods that won’t break the bank?
Check out some ugly stiks by Shakespeare
Do you know how long the pompano will be running through our area? (I Live in destin pretty close to you along the gulf coast of Florida). Does the migration have to do with temperatures?
Water temperature plays a huge roll! But they can be caught all year long. Spring time is just the prime time for them.
Bama Beach Bum cool! Thanks. Just trying to get some info to catch more pomps haha
Fred survived the beach being closed and the virus.
Yes, he’s like a roach.
Matt, the beach you fish from is it near town or do you drive away from town? Beach always looks empty.
It’s a little ways from town. It’s actually a pretty busy beach, but it’s very open for miles. I just walk a LONG ways to get some privacy.
I'll be vacationing on the beach in 2 weeks. Interested in a simple setup for a few days of fishing. Suggestions for simple setup a good mixerture of species or which of your videos might be helpful? I'll keep it simple with a 2500 size spinner. I'm a freshwater northern fisherman with no experience on the gulf. Thanks, I enjoy your vids!
If you want a good inexpensive inshore setup for casting lures a 2000 or 2500 Penn Pursuit combo will work just fine. If you want something a little better quality you could spend a little more and get the Penn Battle combo like I am using in the video.
@@BamaBeachBum Great, thanks man!
A 4000 Penn on a 9-10 ft. rod will handle most fish you catch from the beach. Easy to handle, not to much money if your buying new.
@@rickisley5999 Thanks for the advice that is helpful.
I understand your desire to catch a keeper pompano, but I used to wait for reports of ladyfish running. I absolutely love their fight. To call them a "poor man's tarpon" is an understatement. They are plain out fun, if fishing is something you love. If eating fish is what it's all about, that's great, but for the sheer pleasure of catch, fight, fun and release, I don't think you can beat ladyfish...especially the larger ones.
May I know your jig's name?I want make one and try surf fish, thank you
If you made brine water in a water bag it will stay liquid in your deepfreeze, it could substitute for buying ice.
Hi...
Would you say after the lockdown the fishing is better?
The pompano have been going off since beaches reopened. I think it did help giving them a little break.
So when looking for fish, do you generally just look for the rip? Or are there other factors that play into finding them
Rips are always helpful. Especially when fishing artificials from the beach. However, every beach is structured differently and they are not always easy to find. It’s always more important to understand what you are looking at so that when you do find fish, you can then start to uncover a pattern. There is never a “wrong” place to fish. But it helps to understand what you are casting at. Bars, cuts, holes, troughs, points, rips. All of it can and will hold fish but different species and different patterns will dictate where.
Awesome, thanks! love your channel. Just moved to the beach and have a small boat but still like to fish from the surf occasionally but want to to get on more fish. So I followed you for the surf fishing and Brent for the boat fishing lol
@@BamaBeachBum I have basically just been hocking pompano rigs out as far as I can into the surf of satellite beach on my crappy 7 foot and 8 foot rod wherever there are no people on the beach because I want to believe that there's no wrong place to fish and I have nobody to teach me any better
I'll come let y'all know if I ever catch anything better than seaweed
Nathan Taylor one thing he says he does is cast to different levels in the surf so he can figure out it they’re deep or shallow. Might help ya catch more
Bet it feels great to be back on the beach bum❤
It’s really an incredible feeling!
I can't wait to get out. It will probably be to late
bro what if rhe jig get atuxk in rock
Spent last week in gsa. I started out bottom fishing a Carolina rig and caught two pomps. Later in the week I switched to all pompano rigs and caught all lady fish and whiting. Go figure.🤷♂️ What is the artificial bait that you generally catch the most fish with? Of any species?
Hmmm. Pompano jigs catch a pretty wide variety. I’ve caught spanish, blues, pomps, flounder, lady fish, blue runners. It’s a good all around surf lure. But also shiny lures like spoons and diamond jigs. The more basic the lure, usually the more variety.
Bama Beach Bum are pomp’s catchable from the beach throughout the summer?
Somebody buy this man a trout net
Get a 2 liter bottle fill with water a and freeze it maybe two of them that will solve the ice problem
Good way to spend a morning...
It was! A great morning on the sand.
How can I get in touch, family vacation in June 19th, at cape San blas, but gulf county not letting out of towners rent for short term,as of right now, if we can't keep our reservation, going to fort morgan
Just makes me miss salt water fishing that much more .
Sorry you can’t get to the water man.
I made the mistake of leaving the coast once. Never again
