Remarkable, gulp introduced softbait/ soft plastics fishing here in New Zealand in 2007, but we use way lighter gear. I use a Berkley 8 to 15lb rod, a Daiwa certate 3000 reel loaded with 200 yards of 15lb braid, with 7 feet of 20lb fluorocarbon. In water up to 100 feet we use 3/8, 1/2oz jigheads, but we cast ahead of the drift with 5 inch jerkshads We catch plenty of " snapper" like your red drum to 20lb plus. It's great fun, but the key is casting 120 feet ahead of the drift using a sea anchor
Great vid ! As a native of northern MN, I grew up fishing and find it fascinating that in the ocean you can put a line down and never really know what's comin back up on the other end. Hearing that drag.......ahhhhhh.
Great video, being a native of :Long Island and an avid fisherman it brings back MANY fond memories. I am, now 74 but had the fortune to fish with Frank Mundus several times when I was in my 20's. He was at that time, I believe one of the only captains that made shark fishing a specialty. Both times over several years that I had the opportunity to go out with him we ran into Tuna. The first time I had a hook Pull on a Giant after aprox 20 min. into the fight. We did however have 5 Tuna on the lines and succeeded in landing one of 608 Lbs. As Capt. Mundus remarked, "YOU will probably NEVER see a day like this again". The second time I had the fortune to fish with him, I did land a 604lb Tuna ,as there were very few sharks around, but plenty of tuna. This was in the early 70's. Anyway I enjoy the heck out of your Videos, KEEP it up and GOOD LIUCK !
The other one was Rollie Clark on the Wahoo. My college house mate, Bob Duffy, used to mate for him back in 1968 when I worked that summer as a bartender at Gosmans. Married my sweetheart who waitressed there and she still has two brothers who live in Montauk, one is the nr. 1 charter boat captain there at Tumas dock and the other has his own commercial boat
Ahhhh I love the Montauk Point videos I haven't been up there in years. I'm stuck fishing Maryland and Delware until my kids get older. Beautiful flatties and nice seabass
Nice show. First time viewer. Love Montauk, was the place to be in the summer, growing up in Queens. Bought lobster from Gosman's Dock, cousins had a place around the corner. Now I'm "livin the life" in So. FL. Thanks. I will be back.

Great video as always. Lots of blood when you cut that one fluke. Bleed bucket is your friend and much better meat. Great job with fantastic dinner to follow
@@briansupermag3918 yup I had one striper I bonked, stabbed in the brain, and bled and one of my friends they just threw it in the cooler to die a slow painful death. Well we cooked up both and the one he left in the cooler was bloody, meat wasn’t white, and tasted minerally. Needless to say I convinced him to do the necessary work of killing them and bleeding them before just throwing them into a cooler
Yep. That salmon gulp always works for me as well. I lost a 28 inch fish by the boat on one, but not the gulp’s fault….it was mine. Nice video, keep up the great content!
I love all your videos, Rich! I just love your content bro! From offshore to kayak fishing flats in the Fla keys! Also massive respect for giving Mason a happy birthday shout out! Happy 16th birthday Mason🤙🏻🎂🎊🎁
Come to Florida instead my guy. Copy what rich does and you can get on 30-40 different species (including flounder) from a kayak. No need to pay a guide. Just rent a kayak for your time here and buy some cheap rods to go with your own reels. Don’t need crazy strong tackle, a cheap Walmart 7” inshore rod and a 2500 series reel will get you on nearly everything you can find from a kayak.
I'VE never thought about using gulp bait's to catch FLOUNDER / FLUKE ...here in the U.K. 🇬🇧 we tend to use Worm / crab or fishbaits the U.K 🇬🇧 record is around 5 and a half pound Anyhoos I'm going to give it a try with some GULP BAIT'S in some of the deeper estuary mark's from the shore , Anyhoos buddy a top video and it gets my fishing juices flowing ...top work 🍺😊👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🐟🐟🐟🎣🎣

Bet you did not know it, but the white meat on sea robins is fantastic. I was introduced to it way back in the 70's by a Japanese guy that I worked with in NYC. I grew up in Southold and we used to catch them a lot throwing them back until I took him fishing and he introduced me to sea robin sashimi!
Gidday Mate just watched your Video and must say I enjoyed the whole experience I'm a avid Fisherman myself in Cairns on the north east coast of Australia and never new you could catch fish like that in the Newyork area. I've been to Newyork but next time I'm over I'm coming to the Star island Grill and going to do some local fishing there. Cheers Darryn

Hi dear friend fisherman, I love your boat. I have a White Shark 226 but I would like to now the brand and type of your's. Congratulation for your video. I'll fish much more with jigs in the future !

This is your first video I've watched ... Really interesting and well done! I've never fished Montauk, but have fished our east and now, mainly in the great south bay by Zacks bay to Jones inlet. Yes. Bonk em, bleed em and eat em
Fluke dont really need to be bled they aren’t fishy at all
I still believe it helps and the proof is there. Bleed one and not the other and look at both filets. Easy to see. But its not terrible
