    It's bucktail jig time!
Bucktail jigs are one of the most proven and popular lures.
In World War 2, the U.S. Navy even included a bucktail jig and a handline in the soldiers' survival kits so that they could catch fish if they needed to feed themselves.
    Isn't that awesome?
Bucktail jigs are still really effective today and in this video, you'll learn all about the Spro bucktail jig, including:
    - Where to use them
    - How to rig them
    - And a certain feature I especially like about them when using trailers
Have any questions about these jigs?
    Have you used them before?
Let me know down in the comments!
And you can click here to get the Spro bucktail jigs from our shop: bit.ly/3k2lQli

I've seen a several people throwing a bucktail on a popping cork. This was on the flats so they stayed above the weeds. They would pop and reel very slowly so the bucktail never completely stops, but hops up when propped

Buck tail Jigs are often overlooked, but have always been a great bait / fly in your tackle box. You can even tip them with a strip of live bait, or scented strip.

I have added these types of jigs into my arsenal this season for freshwater bass fishing. The lighter weighted jigs are perfect for tossing in freshwater environments with an added trailer

The spro phat fly is basically the same lure in a smaller 1/8 and 1/16 size, (albeit marketed for the float & fly technique) and has been an absolute KILLER for me for over a decade as a general freshwater bait. Looks just like a small baitfish that everything eats

I use the 3/4 oz for bottom fish in the gold chrome finish. The ling cod for whatever reason hammered these. I put a squid head on the hook pierced right between the eyes.

There is not much that swims that won't eat a bucktail. Spros are my jig of choice, I have a box dedicated to them. I tie them on a loop knot. Fish them ALOT offshore for mahi but get a lot of tuna bonito too.

@@miamiwax5504 find floating weed mats or anything floating, cast a jig as far as you can around them. Reel fast and twitch hard, it almost looks like a vertical jigging retrieve. If you can't get their attention, cast the jig at the water hard so it makes a lot of noise.

Berkeley now makes a good bucktail, theirs has two ways to rig 'em; one eyelet on top and the other at the tip.

I use the 2oz in the surf when casting on a 9 or 10 foot surf rod, but I’ve caught redfish, flounder and bluefish on the 1oz and regular 7ft medium rod beach casting.

    • @bigjoe3287

1oz in the surf or calmer inlets is what I like they don't drag on the bottom as much with a slow retrieve

I wish these would work. They seem to be only brand available at any tackle shops but...
    (1) price per unit too high
    (2) hooks straighten out way too easy for 20lbs braid on oysters or trees.
