It’s the most shocking thing he revealed about William, but everyone is so busy with the “he hit Harry!” story (siblings do) it just didn’t get mentioned in criticisms of the book. William is like a Teflon guy. That quote should follow him through life.
It's from Harry AND from his memory. In a book with lots of word salad which was written by a ghost writer. Besides, Harry cannot remember everything literally so it isn't even a fact that William sad that.
@@duncanhewitt6557 I forgot his ghostwriter’s name, so I thought that was a weird nickname or typo for Meghan 🤭 But it’s very possible he took some liberties to make things more provocative.
Medieval Prince Harry would’ve had a much more interesting story. They would’ve called him something like Harry Flamebeard (or Harry of the Frosted Tip by his foes) and after being exiled and marrying a common-born foreigner he would’ve mustered up a bunch of mercenaries and second-born sons and return to start a (probably disastrous) civil war in England against William the Bald for the throne of King Charles the Adulterer. Fortunately now exiled nobles can just vent their frustrations with weed and podcasting.
@@uncarley Instead of a petty little scuffle in the kitchen, Harry and William could’ve had a duel to the death on the banks of the Thames or something cool like that. Also they’d probably lock Prince Andrew in the Tower of London because he’s too embarrassing and tell everyone he died of a tragic case of bad humours. That would be nice.
If any of them wrote a book I’d actually read, it’s Edward. If Charles is the heir, Andrew (icky) is the spare, I wanna know about the irrelevant fourth child, who just watched everything unfold, like Ik damn well he’s got some stories. Arguably the most unhinged and hinged family member
Interesting thing is Prince Edward is the first royal to actually work outside of the royal in a private sector. I mean Harry here is complaining how he wasn’t taught to survive in the normal world, hey his uncle did maybe he should learn from him. Like Prince Edward’s book could be a know how on how to be a “normal” royal .

He makes it seem like the family is a bunch of Neanderthals and he was the revolutionary that started all the changes. Well, no. Diana, Charles, even Harry's grandmother's sister, Margaret went to therapysts regularly. Prince Edward and his wife, Princess Anne's children all had regular jobs. Even Prince William worked as an emergency helicopter pilot. In real life he just stuck at the age of 12 maybe, didn't elevate his life past that and now he wants to blame someone for it so badly.
I just find it so funny that will asked harry to pretend not to know him at school as if they weren't some of the most famous siblings in the world and everybody knew they were brothers anyway💀💀

@@uncarley quick comment. I went to boarding school and a lot of friends did. It's not normal to be bathed and showered.... I've never heard of this ever
And I understand telling your story, everyone has that right and that's fine. But he didn't have to talk about his dick as much as everyone's reviewing.
You know in the USA we use editors. Writers turn in the pages. Editors rip some out, put some back. But Harry can write, as he dictated most of these pages. It reads very naturally. He has his grandmother's wit, and his mother's love for fun, dancing and outdoors.
Ok but now imagine being Harry's ghostwriter and you sit him down and he tells you about his frostbitten todger and Elizabeth Arden cream reminding him of his mother's smell and then having to put that down into a coherent narrative.
Because he's an overdramatic immature self centered adult which are things we can understand and forgive in teenagers and very young adults, but which are pathetic on almost 40 year olds.
Also the fact that he wants it to be his “thing”, and being annoyed that he didn’t think of it first seems so embedded in selfishness and disingenuous. I think it would’ve been very little about the actual cause and more so what it could do for Williams status
My question is how he got it frost nipped in the first place. Was the army letting him wander around not dressed properly for the weather, or was it just hanging out there looking at the world. I live in northern Canada and that is literally the first time I EVER heard of someone getting frost burnt down there.
@@evasartorius9528 I read in a comment that he refused to use the adult diapers issued by the Army, so he froze in the process of relieving himself. There should be military discipline for that. It’s like injuring yourself on purpose to get out of your duties.
I can almost guarantee William has a similar view of Harry. Their fights are very reminiscent (however a lot more shallow, probably because they’re also a lot more privileged) of the fights between my sister and myself. It mostly just speaks to a very traumatic childhood where they were probably pitted against each other as often as they banded together against their family. They don’t have enough trust in each other so everything is a perceived slight. It’s really sad because the real enemy is the system.
I thought the same thing when I read that bit where Harry gleamed that he was "right" about William being envious that he got to keep his beard while William couldn't. Even Harry himself, in a moment of probably oblivious self-awareness, admits that they were raised differently from a certain point because he was allowed to "indulge" whereas William was held at unattainable standards. That's one bit in his book that I believe to be true and it's not hard to see as being the truth because we also somehow saw it in the way the two of them were presented and painted as by the media - William, the heir, always appeared as quieter, more reserved and somewhat similar to his father. Harry, the spare who will probably never reach the throne, was always the more fun, free-spirited brother and more similar to his mother. I really don't think it's far from the truth that they were raised differently and maybe even pitted against each other, either.
Given that through history, princes usually assassinated each other in the bid to the thrown - heck, even mothers weren’t spared. It’d be of no surprise if these two, in spite of being raised in the “modern era”, were assigned their “crown prince” and “spare” roles from birth, and reminded of the huge difference between their worth to the monarchy. Perhaps if Diana was still around then all of this would have been different. Sad, really.
While I don't question your story was traumatic and toxic, his has an extra component: royal hierarchy. As a spare he can NEVER win on anything. William always has to stand out, gets the best stuff, never gets reprimanded, and uses harry as a scapegoat when necessary. That adds an extra layer of toxicity to the whole dynamic.
@@bgranger_842 dynamics like this regardless of the Royal element are often based on the assigned roles in the family, i.e the favorite vs the constant disappointment/scapegoat. I’d imagine the real difference is the type of pressure put on the eldest (the heir) to shift blame onto the “spare.” If my sister didn’t throw me under the bus she would just temporarily receive the same vitriol I did on a daily basis. If William doesn’t do what the crown says, well I can’t even fathom what it must be like to be a puppet.
honestly a lot of it was cringe but also the story of him losing his virginity in a bar to an older woman while drunk was rape. he had a LOT of drug problems and his dad pretending that he may not be his child and taunting him for it was… wild. that’s a lot to go through especially when your brother punches you for not letting his racist comments slide - they’re all messy but I enjoyed the truth
the fact that a large portion of this book happens when these people are in their mid thirties and are some of the richest people in the world is so funny to me. like they have no problems theyre just inventing their own!!
As the youngest child let me just say, this book is peak youngest child syndrome. The theme of "Yeah I did that. But my older brothers told me to!" Is basically how I went about life before getting therapy.

@@tonisharday8777 it’s hard to know how Charles joke was meant to land. Joking about maternity and paternity is something that sometimes happens in family. Sometimes it’s done with cruelty, sometimes not. My mom has jokingly introduced me to new people as being a product of my dad’s first marriage since I was little (there was no first marriage! My parents were married for 5 years when they had me). While I’ve never thought the joke was funny and don’t really enjoy this particular running bit of hers, I know she doesn’t mean any harm in these moments. That said, my parentage was never in real question so it’s much easier for me to let that go. The subject should have been off limits for Harry given that he had to deal with rumors that he was an affair baby.
As the youngest, I never blamed the older kid. I did often scratch my head wondering why everyone thought she was right about things when I was quietly more perceptive! Things changed when we got older and we're all happy. Life's too short to carry rivalry over the years, though it seems earth-shattering when you're young!
Tbh it’s not even that bad… Charles and camilla live in a 5 bedroom house… not a 100 bedroom palace… 😂 so I get that she probably wanted a bigger room to make her closet. Still funny though 😂

Honestly she undersold how crazy Harry comes off in this book. He insinuates magical selkies (!!!) and the ghost of his mom may have helped Meg to get pregnant. He also apparently got so high off of laughing gas during his son’s birth that the nurse had to replace the canister so there would be some available for Meghan to use. I like how Harry is explaining the pressure of being a royal, but then giving no sympathy to William - maybe he’s also mad at his lack of choice rather than your beard 😂
lol right, I don’t even like William (I don’t like any of them tbh, the monarchy is useless), but from William’s perspective there’s so much pressure around him and Harry doesn’t seem to get that being the spare isn’t nearly the worst position to be within the institution. Harry should’ve understood William got the most “perks” almost as a compensation because one day the weight of it all will be on his shoulders, for better or worse. The spare has the option of finding his own path and the knowledge that the scrutiny over him will ease with time when the heir’s heirs get older and the attention goes onto them, while for his brother it only gets worse as his role becomes more relevant overtime.

@@jesslaurel yes, however though Chandler confronted both of them at pivotal moments in the series across the 10 years of the show. He showed more growth in the show than Harry if I’m being completely honest.
For the colonizers and natives party, he could've just dressed up as himself, as the majority of the money of the royal family comes from land purchased partially from the wealth accrued from - you guessed it - colonization.
Yes, some of his childhood was fucked up, but getting a smaller bedroom than your older sibling, your older brother not wanting to hang out with you at school, the human race is doomed if that constitutes a traumatic childhood
The smaller bedroom story is about Balmoral as well, their holiday castle they would only stay at a few weeks a year. ;) He makes it sound like he's that other Harry, and was put in a little cupboard under the stairs, poor thing.
I'd say growing up, being treated as inferior to your brother absolutely every day constitutes a traumatic childhood. There's always someone who has is worse than you but that doesn't minimize your trauma

As a sibling, Harry saying he was traumatized by William not hanging out with him at school and laughing at his shaved head are just laughable statements for me... As if it isn't normal sibling behavior T-T
The stuff about siblings is so true. My siblings and I were SO cruel to each other at school lmao. We're all really close now though. I think, because Harry's life has been so odd and so far removed from most people's experiences, he can't tell which parts are ordinary things everybody goes through and which are abnormal.
i saw these books at barnes and noble, and they were on a display where all the covers where facing out, and when i turned around and just saw harry's face everywhere i jumped and almost accidently knocked down a book display

I agree! But what I found odd was that it seemed William did this even outside of school at times. There was a trip they had to Africa during a school break and I think Harry said William was still pretending not to know him. So idk 🤷🏾♀️
Loved this, thank you. I am from South Africa (one country of 54 in Africa xD) and hearing about the whole "Africa is mine" theme and the "Colonisers/Natives" party is honestly just nuts. The effects of colonisation (by the UK and many other European countries) are still playing out in South Africa and all over the world. It makes me feel pretty shocked that these kinds of historical issues are used as props in Harry's narrative of who we should feel sorry for. I do still feel some sympathy for Harry but on taking a step back, it's difficult to not feel some kind of bewilderment at how out of touch any of these individuals are. Perhaps we are all just as out of touch though 😅
You aren't out of touch. These guys are refusing to be in touch. The old system benefits them, they really like that. Never mind what it did to the beings it controlled.
I mean, royals in general are so far removed from our reality, their normal has nothing to do with our normal, this was always gonna be wild. Then again, anyone else in the family would have had seven censors go through their text.

I think the biggest shot was them taking the security away while there were literal death threats. Same with Diana back then. So yeah, I'd be pissed too. Idk which parts of the Netflix documentary are true, but the Royal Family really comes off as petty there. And what was definitely true was the whole issue about the press and the fact that the palace didn't do anything about that even though they probably could have. On the other hand, it goes to show how stupid people are in general believing the crap magazines like the Sun write.
I mean it's petty but I get it. Who wants to be around a family that stuffy. I'd gtfo too tbh. Also you you left out the verbal abuse he went through with his father taunting him about not really being his son at 9 years old. Charles can eat a big fat one. What a horrific thing to do to a child, and as a child who had similar things thrown my why from a young age up until even this summer as a grown adult, I cut ties with my family entirely. It messes with your brain and it doesn't just go away when you become an adult.
@Winter Williams If u read the book it wasn't verbal abuse. This is an insinuation not fact. In the book Charles is talking about a mad man escaped from Broadmoor prison pretending to be Prince Charles. Charles says to that who knows if im the real Prince Charles or not maybe Im the mad man from Broadmoor n this guy is PC ur real dad. Harry and the media turned it into something else to create a narrative.
I kind of feel bad for him because he clearly has unresolved issues stemming from a troubled childhood-that his family never thought to address - his mother's death. Plus the fact that the royal family was so out of touch that Harry didn't understand that it's normal for siblings to be jerks to each other when they're young.

You’re all fucking weird. Less about them? You bought a book and monetized a YT video about it. All of these comments conveniently and unsurprisingly leave out the racism.
But what really confuses me is that Harry complained about lack of privacy, intrusiveness of the media, people souring his life details and spreading rumors. At the same time he doesn’t respect privacy of his relatives at all, especially “evil Willy’s”
Plus the fact that he’s living for all the press right now, like if you don’t want all the attention don’t do a Netflix show and write a tell all book?
I think him putting it all out there is because the British press will try to “expose him” I think he’s just trying to clear his name along with his wife’s name. Also why does everyone get to talk about him but not him? He’s allowed to take control of his own narrative

Medieval Prince Harry would’ve had a much more interesting story.
Yes!!!! Someone who gets it
Given that through history, princes usually assassinated each other in the bid to the thrown - heck, even mothers weren’t spared.

@Mckenzie: Wouldn't really make sense as Colonisation decisions are made entirely by the British Government. The Parliament decides. The Crown is just a symbol ( esp. since Elizabeth's dad - very very limited powers).

Chandler was an obscenely rich kid with toxic parents who totally screwed up his ability to relate to people in a normal way and hides behind humor. I feel like Harry fits that.

For the colonizers and natives party, he could've just dressed up as himself, as the majority of the money of the royal family comes from land purchased partially from the wealth accrued from - you guessed it - colonization.
Yes, some of his childhood was fucked up, but getting a smaller bedroom than your older sibling, your older brother not wanting to hang out with you at school, the human race is doomed if that constitutes a traumatic childhood
truly and harry had some actual bad stuff happen to him so like... focus on that for the book instead?
"but getting a smaller bedroom than your older sibling" Having your mother die while you are still a child is not pleasant however rich you are.
The smaller bedroom story is about Balmoral as well, their holiday castle they would only stay at a few weeks a year. ;) He makes it sound like he's that other Harry, and was put in a little cupboard under the stairs, poor thing.
@@EvelineUK maybe he feels he is that harry and was bullied by william as dudley lol

Sibling rivalry is normal, I’m the youngest of three, 5 years younger than the middle child. My siblings told me I was adopted and I believed it! Lol🤣
On the other hand “normal” siblings aren’t “forced” to attend royal engagements and have to put up a front.
I read the book, actually listened to the audiobook because he is the narrator. I never paid attention to the Monarchy, never peaked my attention. I do remember Diana’s death.
I find the “arrangement” between the Royal Family and the media repulsive. Approving stories that hurt your child with an ulterior motive to improve another “family” member’s image.
Looking from the outside, it might seem to many it’s a privileged lifestyle, but money isn’t everything.
I agree with you, I would’ve been so kicked out of there at a very young age, most likely shipped to a permanent boarding school with no right to parole.🙃

Imagine your biggest shot at your family is that your sil got annoyed at sharing her lipgloss and beards on weddings.
That’s what shocked me the most like lmao that’s all he’s got???
Why do you assume Harry telling his own story was him trying to take a shot?

I kind of feel bad for him because he clearly has unresolved issues stemming from a troubled childhood-that his family never thought to address - his mother's death.

But what really confuses me is that Harry complained about lack of privacy, intrusiveness of the media, people souring his life details and spreading rumors.
At the same time he doesn’t respect privacy of his relatives at all, especially “evil Willy’s”
