What great information! Instead of Neosporin, which gives me severe dermatitis, for several years I’ve been using Curad brand Germ Shield Antimicrobial Wound Gel which has silver chloride as the active ingredient. The package says it kills “bacteria like MRSA, E. Coli, Staph, and Yeast.” I usually use it under bandages, but it also works ok without a bandaid as it isn’t oily. My understanding is that topical silver doesn’t pose the same risk as oral colloidal silver products, which can cause argyria.
Silver colloid is AMAZING. When I use it on bad cuts & scrapes, they heal in like two days. AND I used it on my throat when I had covid and had NO throat or lung issues. (I inhaled thru the mouth as I sprayed it toward the back of my throat). I Rarely use it. Maybe 2-3 times a year. and that's counting externally for cuts as well.
Hi Dray, for years I've rubbed Vaseline on the middle of my neck before applying perfume. Not only does it protect my skin but it makes my scent last. Keep fragrance light!
I’m so allergic to red dyes... even in clothing. I can’t wear red or pink clothing. It sucks! I learned it the hard way 🤦♀️ I also can’t use fragrance... perfume makes me super sick too.
Credo Beauty is one of the few retailers that claims any products being sold on their site have to agree to reveal all of the product ingredients including the ones that normally include the description "parfum/fragrance."
Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with us FOR FREE. 🙏 We are so lucky to have you here. I, and many others, cannot afford to see a dermatologist and am forever grateful for the wealth of information I gain here. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU !
I once got a really bad burn from a bad waxing on my face. It was not healing on it's own for days. I swear within hours of putting it on it totally healed and I did not scar.
I’ve been using a simple nail brushes from the dollar store to exfoliate my hands and feet. I used to get calluses off my feet and eczema off my hands. It works for me and now I don’t use eczema cream. But also I stopped touching food which was causing most of the eczema. I use gloves to cook and the brush with soap in the bath gets rid of any eczema flare ups. Hope someone can use this tip.
This was a great video. I had patch testing done and found out I was not allergic to MCI/MI or parabens but Benzoic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Benzyl Alcohol, nickel, neosporin and fragrance. Who knew.
Yup. my hand dermatitis just flared and my new Marc Anthony shampoo has methylisothiazolinone. I guess I’ll be wearing gloves in the tub to see if that helps. Thanks so much for pointing this out.
this was actually more helpful than i was anticipating, thanks. btw dr dray you were right on about castor oil causing hair matting. a patch of my hair was matted-ish near the scalp for close to a year when i was applying castor oil regularly to help with hair thinning (not exactly the result i was looking for). it wasn’t until i saw your video and stopped using castor oil that it stopped. i’d never heard that before and otherwise may never have made the connection. so thank you for that as well!
Can I just say how I live that you’re so fucking honest when you say you’ve used some of the stuff and caution us on how to use them and what to look for if it might be causing us issues? You’re amazing!!
Thank you for this video. We also should avoid microplastics. I am devastated that this is not talked about more often. I would appreciate more content about microplastics free skincare!
great video Dr, as always.👌🧡 the first ingredient methylisothiazolinone was developed to replace parabens "toxicity" and the joke was it was more harmful than parabens, and it has a cytotoxic potential and well-known skin sensitizer effects.
Thank you for this video to educate. After years of eczema and my skin getting worse and worse, I finally did patch testing last year, after insisting on it. I’m allergic to 3 of the mentioned items; fragrance, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (a preservative found in 99% of cosmetics and cleaners) and neomycin sulfate. Fragrance is the WORST. It’s hidden in everything. I find myself constantly braking out in hives or eczema because of contact with other people’s clothes or even furniture. Finding every day items, like toothpaste and bug spray are tough for someone like myself who has these allergies, especially when companies continually change formulas.
It’s like you read my mind! This is just what I needed. I’ve been plagued with skin allergies in the last 6 months-finally saw a derm that is helping but this list is awesome!!! THANK YOU! I knew I was allergic to Neosporin , but now I’m reading ALL labels. I really can’t thank you enough 😍
Before I learned how bad the St Ives was, I used to use it regularly. Then one day, my sink started to clog and my dad came over to check it out-the stuff had gotten stuck in the p-trap! 🤢
Oh my goodness I have been using Balmex on my toddler! I’ve gone through two tubes. He didn’t have a reaction that I could tell but I’m not taking the chance. Switching back to Desitin.
Dr. Dray! Firstly, love your channel! Secondly, I looked up how much schooling was required to become a board certified dermatologist! Holy smokes! At what point did you know you wanted to become a dermatologist instead of say, an OB/Gyn, or GP or biomedical engineering? I really enjoy Dr.s sharing that story and in fact , it has made a huge impact on my decision making process of choosing a Dr. to treat either myself or my daughter.
Thank you so much for pointing out the balsam Peru! I had no idea it was something to be wary of. I noticed that it’s in my son’s diaper cream, and he has really sensitive skin. You may have helped us avoid a disaster, there.
years ago my pedia (D.O.) recommended straight zinc oxide for the regular rash & ladies cream for a yeast infection (like lotrimin) for those on my kids. Saved me a fortune. (regular diaper rash goes away with just one application of zinc, a yeast infection will not, but with one application of lotrimin, it usually does.
I love neosporin. I use it for any and all skin abrasions and I will even put it on my fever blisters and everything is almost healed instantly! Which doesn’t make sense since cold sores stem from a virus but …it works for me! I hope they never take it off the market! ❤
I am looking to see if Aquaphor spray is a bad product to use, because I noticed Aquaphor spray first 3 ingredients are Butane, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil. What are your thoughts on that?
I've never understood those spf tanning products. I don't tan anymore, but back when I did, I never felt like I got satisfying color without enough UVB. An hour with no spf yielded much more color than a whole day with one of those spf tanning lotions. When I was using tanning beds regularly, I'd always use the ones with either a higher percentage of UVB or a 50/50 mix of UVA/UVB. The high UVA beds, or "High Pressure" beds (which are always marketed as higher level), just felt like a waste of money, no matter how deep my base was. And to anyone that wants to give me grief, I now wear sunscreen daily, and DO NOT promote the use of tanning beds anymore
Wow this is such a great video. I have been having allergic reactions every single time I shower for almost 2 years. I come out of the shower sneezing, watery red eyes, and itching. I have switched up my products countless times and get the same reaction. Now I actually know what ingredients to look for! But could you also recommend brands that are allergen free? It’s hard for me to know what to read in the ingredients since the fragrances have so many names 😢
I remember Hawaiian Tropic SPF-4 when I was a teenager. It was an oil to boot. We thought it was fine because the SPF wasn’t much lower than what else was available.
Love these videos, feel so much more informed about skincare! I would love a video about "at home" treatments and tools to avoid. I know you've mentioned avoiding microdermabrasion at home, would love to see if there are other things to avoid as there are new at home tools coming out everyday, like lasers, light treatments, etc.
I’ve never had such bad acne breakouts than when I used products with coconut oil, very high fragrance and tea tree oil. My sister recommended coconut oil as a moisturizer and to take off makeup....woke up covered in new zits! And a more “natural” tea tree face wash... ugh, again, covered in acne. Yikes, I pretty avoid those ingredients now.
I tried to use up a facial scrub and tried it on my upper arms for red bumps and dry skin and it made my skin soooo mad! Aloe Vera helped it calm down but I never used a scrub on my arms again!
Use straight zinc oxide for a simple rash & generic cream for a yeast infection (like the ladies' over the counter brand). My pediatrician saved me so much money with those simple recommendations.
She has a video, makeup ingredients to avoid. There's also the video, how to read skin care ingredients. Another video is, the truth about carmine in skin care and cosmetics.
Unfortunately fragrance even in wash off product broke me out like crazy. So I switched to cetaphil instead and it's become my bae! Cetaphil because cerave is so costly in india.😭
I used to be the same way. It seemed like almost everything would give me a rash, and I had to be extremely careful about which soaps, body washes, laundry detergents, etc that I used. I'm not sure when things changed, but it hasn't been as much of an issue in recent years. Thank goodness, because I no longer have to fear getting a rash anytime I wash my hands outside of my home! Lol
I face the same issue with Himalaya neem face wash! Dry and irritated skin with rashes. Too many products in India nowadays choosing what to buy has become so confusing .
I have problems with that ingredients though... And I end up having flares acne as soon I try that things so now, I tend to stop and find the safest one for my acne prone skin... Is it to late to know this knowledge?? I just sayin to my self why I didn't know about your channel before, so I dont get my skin and my face end up being like this.... Now... Im just using and listening the dermatologist like you... Thanks doctor... Love you for sharing the knowledge of your..
Dear Dr.Dray, have you ever discussed about compounds like Acetamide MEA and ethanol amines in general? Amines, nitrites and nitrates are actually also a food concern - but since some amines are also used in cosmetics as well, it'd be an interesting subjects to discuss about. In particular, are some compounds really worth worrying about? Are there any kind of "interactions" between certain compounds, regarding this matter, that might prove to be harmful? Thanks in advance.
Dr Dray. Have you heard of Geek and Gorgeous? The products they have seem amazing, simple ingredients, no fragrance, very affordable. Would love to hear your thoughts. I've learnt so much from your videos.
The fact that St. Ives has this facial scrub that contains harsh coffee scrub and coconut oil in it is a TERRIBLE IDEA for acne-prone skin. No wonder why I got acne the next day after I use it! Now I use it as a scrub for my body because it works well and also I don't want to waste any product. Thank you for this information, Dr Dray! I'm definitely taking notes on this list.
This is the reason why I subcribed this channel. Dr Dray offers evidence based knowledge, which benefits everybody in general (of course if you follow the recommendations). Not just does she do it with humor, but also with an appraoch of viability. Thanks Dr Dray for your work!
I can't use sun screen because i am mainly Scandinavian and had always used it for years and years and now i am overly sensitive to them so i just try not to be in the sun for long. i do have a tendency for basil cell CA. my arms and shoulder are a mess from sun damage from growing up in the 50s and 60s where you had coppertone 4 and nothing else to use.

Greetings d b hope u r well n Happy Thursday😀👍💜....
@@whitneybrown4067 Happy Thursday Whitney. I hope your week has gone well. Take care.
Amazon is just AWFUL about this! Unless a vendor voluntarily gives out the ingredients, you won’t know what you’ve got until the pkg arrives!
Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with us FOR FREE. 🙏 We are so lucky to have you here. I, and many others, cannot afford to see a dermatologist and am forever grateful for the wealth of information I gain here. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU !
Oh my goodness that explains why my scalp itches so much!!
Who knew.
How was the patch testing process? Hoping to get scheduled soon
You are a friend, a teacher and a mentor ❤️ thank you
Yup. my hand dermatitis just flared and my new Marc Anthony shampoo has methylisothiazolinone. I guess I’ll be wearing gloves in the tub to see if that helps. Thanks so much for pointing this out.
Dr.Dray you have completely changed my skin! Thank you for sharing your time with us!
So glad!
So glad you spoke against Neosporin!!! I just found out today that I am allergic to the hydroperoxide of Linalool
Hi Dr Dray!
Can you discuss ingredients that are beneficial to skin but rarely found in products?
this was actually more helpful than i was anticipating, thanks.
btw dr dray you were right on about castor oil causing hair matting. a patch of my hair was matted-ish near the scalp for close to a year when i was applying castor oil regularly to help with hair thinning (not exactly the result i was looking for). it wasn’t until i saw your video and stopped using castor oil that it stopped. i’d never heard that before and otherwise may never have made the connection. so thank you for that as well!
Husband: what are you doing?
Me: spending the night with Dr. Dray
Thank you for talking about MI. After an allergy test found out that MI was messing me up. I am so allergic to it! My life has changed since
great video Dr, as always.👌🧡
the first ingredient methylisothiazolinone was developed to replace parabens "toxicity" and the joke was it was more harmful than parabens, and it has a cytotoxic potential and well-known skin sensitizer effects.
love how you put 'toilet water' in the description Dr Dray!
I freaked my sister out by using that term. It was epic. 😂
I’ve been scrolling trying to find someone else who noticed it!
@@ladybuggs11 🤣I BET it was, indeed!😂
It's the translation of "eau de toilette" in the fragrance world, I believe.
@@karatalksaboutstuff7333 Yep.
You have saved my skin and saved me so much money! Thank you
It’s like you read my mind!
This was so necessary Dr. Dray! We often focus too much on the ingredients we want to use that we overlook which ones to avoid, very educational
Dr.
Seriously, you NEED to start your own skin care line!! Or at least collaborate with a drugstore brand. 😁
Or medical grade
Wow so surprised by the Neosporin, I always felt its healing
I thought it had some kind of antiseptic in it myself. Still puzzled.
Good to know about Neosporin. I always thought it helped with infection. I can't thank you enough for the education from your videos.
Really good information! I’ve tried so many skincare creams that could not help with my eczema. Face Naturals cured my skin problems.
Hi Dr. Dray, your videos are so helpful...sensitive skin here. So informative! Bless you!
I literally just threw out my tanning oil from last year! Tnx!
She has a lot of videos on tools. Just do a search.
Did not know my “natural” labeled diaper cream had Balsam of Peru 😑 just looked up Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. Def popular amongst my friends.
Use straight zinc oxide for a simple rash & generic cream for a yeast infection (like the ladies' over the counter brand). My pediatrician saved me so much money with those simple recommendations.
The “natural” one in the green tube? Now I need to go read the ingredients...
What's your opinion about the use of Methylene Blue in skin care products ?? I would really appreciate your reply..
Can you talk about products in makeup that could cause issues? Like eyelid dermatitis from eyeshadow or breakouts from face products
She has a video, makeup ingredients to avoid. There's also the video, how to read skin care ingredients. Another video is, the truth about carmine in skin care and cosmetics.
@@db-gb5xi thanks!
I know right. It's time for indian brands to step up their game in making good fragrance free products.
@@christineherbert4937 man I loved that one! It’s a great makeup remover. They need to make a fragrance free, dye free version
You said MI and I immediately thought myocardial infarction then I was like wait we are talking about derm 😆
lol! avoid that too
I have problems with that ingredients though...
I felt like I'm in a class. The discussion is concise and easy to follow
Red 40 tends to give me problems, but I do have acne prone and sensitive skin. Great video as always!
Thank you for listing the fragrances! I never knew exactly what to look for.
Can you please do a video on ingesting Salicylates and using salicylate products on the skin! 🙏
This list was super helpful. Thanks sis❤❤❤❤
