I was using a BP facewash for the few bumps on my face. Since BP makes your skin photo sensitive, I decided to slather on sunscreen. Big mistake. It's costly, but the only true way of finding out if a product will break you out or not is to try out the said product. I have reactive, sensitive skin, but plenty of products with "comedogenic" ingredients have worked well for me. However, I will say that piling products on my face has led to breakouts more than a single product has. If you are acne-prone, simplicity is critical for a skincare routine.
your explanations are so thorough and put my anxiety about “comedogenic” ingredients at ease! I have very easily clogged pores and finding new skincare products has been stressing me out intensely 😭
There are plenty of products for an acne prone skin, but just a few for a dry and sensitive acne prone skin. I’ve been fighting adult hormonal acne for almost a year now and it’s really hard to find a product that won’t irritate my skin even more
Eliminating artificial/added sugar, eating more fruits and vegetables, getting high quality sleep, exercising regularly, and managing your stress should be the top priority before trying any new products.
I just ignore noncomedogenic claims, be it official or anecdotal. Usually in my case, it is not a matter of comedogenic ingredients or combination, it's more about having a good skin barrier and a good balance between my oil/sebum and water.

I’ve realized now that most “acne” I would get is actually reactions to products because my skin is sensitive. The main thing that really does cause deep “clogging” and true acne for me is 1. jojoba oils and esters (plant oils in general I am wary of) and 2. eating too much sugar.
My skin was at its best when I would just leave it alone. Until I started using too many products because I thought I needed everything that was “trendy” now my skin is horrible! I wish I could go back to when I didn’t do anything to my skin and it was clear 😓
What a goddess! I just love how you critically look at things and scientific papers. You make skin care so much more accessible by giving us “tools” to think about how we choose our products instead of a shopping list! ❤️
I recently experienced acne cosmetics with the La Roche Posay Double Repair moisturizer I used for about three years without issues! I’m not sure if the formula was changed or if my skin changed but this stuff used to be gold for my skin and now I just can’t use it. The spots I develop all over my face resolve quite quickly and don’t leave red marks when I stop using it. It’s a bummer because it’s quite a good deal for how much you get and with inflation right now… I’m not willing to pour money into expensive moisturizers. So far, my Equate Beauty Eczema Relief Cream is working quite well on my face, what I normally use for my body!
Same thing seems to have happened with my khiels moisturizer! I have a terrible breakout all across my chin and cheeks. Been using it for 2 years without issues
I'm so sad now LMAO. Thanks for the information. I feel like what you said really makes sense because after reading way too many product reviews I kinda came to the same conclusion but was hoping maybe I was mistaken.
I can only speak for myself but the only sunscreen I can safely use on my combo acne prone skin is Elta MD UV Clear for acne prone skin. Everything else, including baby sunscreen, clogs the pores around my nose and on my chin.
Gentle cleanser, basic moisturizer, tretinoin, and sunscreen (no alcohol, no fragrance, no essential oils). My skin has gotten so much better by adopting a simplistic skincare routine.
It’s all about isolating your variables. I never understand when someone says “this broke me out” bc there’s so much ambiguity behind that. It leaves so much of the picture out. And another thing where people will buy a star ingredient product like vitamin c. Is it actually the vitamin c brightening your skin as you think? Or the ferulic acid in there doing that.. It’s easier to see what’s working when there’s products that use minimal ingredients so you know what’s more likely doing what, and the same for using products that “break us out”. We need to stop using so many , so we can truthfully conclude if something is causing an issue or actually giving us a benefit.
Thank you for addressing this. I frequently struggle with acne cosmetica on top of my hormonal acne. It's trial and error as far as what products don't cause me to break out. As far as sunscreens, Eucerin Oil Control and Differin Oil Control have been great for me. They are oil-free, fragrance free, and have a light texture. I used to always use mineral sunscreens but it seems like something about them causes breakouts for me - perhaps because they are harder to remove. I've also noticed hyaluronic acid is a trigger for me. Dr. Dray, you are the best! I'd love to see a video addressing how adult female patients are faring on Winlevi cream. I'm starting that today.
Makes sense - my face is so much clearer now not wearing a N95 mask every day at work, as nurse being on holidays ! Plus I only wear only sunscreen or light moisturiser and sunscreen at work now - leave all actives when not at work :)
I find it helpful to journal or take pictures of my skin if I start a new product instead of looking at ingredients. It helps me have a sense of control.
Good morning Dr Dray! I'm early today! It is finally nice and sunny where I am after weeks of rain. I wear my spf every day but now I'm planning on also bringing a hat to work for my midday walk!
Just wanted to say, without any creams or treatment, I STOPPED EATING SUGAR, refined carbs and processed food (including foods contacting artificial sweeteners) and guess what: MY ACNE HAS GONE since. Diet is EVERYTHING. I hope this will help somebody, it took me years to figure out.
Dr Dray I wish you would talk about Osmosis Skincare line. It seems a lot of beauty UA-camrs are trying to get aging customers to buy this skincare line and they are saying it’s the best. They are also not saying it is sponsored which is suspicious to me. The founder of this skincare line got in trouble for fraud by selling sunscreen drinkable water. Yes, you heard that right. He said that by paying $30 for his 3 ounce bottle of water and you drink it and you don’t need any sunscreen. A lot of people got burned really badly. Who knows if they were even more damaged by skin cancer because it doesn’t show up for years. I watched one video and it had a lot of older ladies in the comment section saying how much they needed this skincare line. I swear this one lady UA-camr talked like it could turn back the hands of time and turn water into wine. This stuff could fix broken capillaries in your face and it also fixed hooded eyes forever. That is what she said about this skincare line. That sounds like false advertising to me!! Please help. Sorry I wrote this so fast. I hope you can understand what I’m trying to say. I’m just so mad!! My sister with cancer wanted to try this stuff!!
"Only relevant and useful if you are a rabbit who is really into an elaborate skincare routine on your ears." Thanks for the laugh, Dr. Dray! You made my morning!!!
Dr. Dray, you are always so informative!! I love watching your videos :) When it comes to skincare I love sticking to a simple routine with only 2-3 products since I have sensitive and acne-prone skin. It's easier for me to eliminate which products are potentially irritating my skin.
Dr Dray, can we pretty please get a video about who is a good candidate for SMP and how to best care for your pigment after treatment. In love with your channel❤
It's taken me so many years to find products that dont break me out but I finally have a great routine and only break out very rarley due to hormones. The products that I now stick to that do not break me out are: cleanser: zapzyt (amazing, and found it thanks to Dr Dray!), occassional exfoliation: QV face polish (lovely and gente but I always wash with zapzyt afterwards to remove any residue that is left behind, moisturiser: cerave pm (looooove this one so much!), sunscreen: la roche posay anthlios invisible fluid (best suncreen I've ever used), and for night cream I use Neutrogena Rapid Repair regenerating cream (the fragrance free one), it contains retinol and hallelujah has never irritated my skin!! Thanks Dr Dray for all your videos, they have helped all of us so much x
That's what those breakouts were!! As I was try to repair my skin-barrier, I began using the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and the Cerave Daily Moisturizer. It helped repair my skin but caused acne cosmetica. Initially I thought I was purging, but it wouldn't go away. I presumed that those products may be the reason, so I stopped using briefly and my skin cleared up. I didn't know what it was called! Especially since those products work well for so many. Thank you for this video Dr Dray! So so helpful to finally get answers to what I was struggling with.
Unless you are a rabbit, doing extensive skin care on your ears.....I laughed so hard! I found this statement hilarious! Thank you Dr. Dray for a good laugh! I really needed this today. 😄
Oh such a great topic, love you scientific approach! Thank you! May I suggest to add "comedogenic" word to the title or tags? People often search for this word and this word might help them to find your video
I have way fewer breakouts now that I take better care of my skin barrier. I used to wash my face with hand soap and not moisturize. Yikes. Now I use gentle cleansers AM and PM and even with pretty rich moisturizers I don't get the same deep painful pimples I used to. If I use a hardcore water resistant sunscreen on my face I double cleanse with micellar water and then a foaming cleanser.
You've taught me quite a bit today! I often wondered why, in the past, when I purchased a non-comedogenic product, 9 times out of 10, I wouldn't break out. It's always been trial and error but since eliminating fragrance (thanks to you) I have seen a huge difference in break outs. You're awesome, Dr Dray! And my skin thanks you. Happy Tuesday!! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💟
Panoxyl 4% daily face wash and AM Panoxyl suncreen moisturizer is a great combo! I found that Panoxyl decreases my breakouts more than Cerave, also the AM moisturizer by Panoxyl is less greasy than Cerave as well.
I use salicylic acid cleanser from Cerave, Neturogena Hydro Boost gel, Eucering Oil control SPF50 sunscreen and Cerave SPF25 daily moisturizer (this works better under 25C).
I used to not wash my face and remove make up before sleep … my god, I regret doing that so much!! So many stupid things we do when we are young and misinformed.
I’d love to see you discuss Kindred Black’s “slow beauty” skincare products. They’re really a niche of their own, with very apothecary-like packaging, a luxury price point, and “back to nature”/slow-living vibe. I’m not looking to purchase, but I feel like you’d have a lot to say about their products!
It doesn't even take 5 minutes of watching this channel to know she'd rip that brand apart 😂 They're selling squalane for $150 I mean come onnnnn 💀 Just depot your good, affordable skincare into pretty glass bottles and call it good lol
Why is that there’s not a SINGLE sunblock whether mineral, chemical, cream, powder, high end, drug store or all the highly recommended ones that doesn’t break me out? I’ve spent a fortune over almost 20 years and have given up. The best one was Bare Minerals Mineral Veil but since they changed the formula, it began to irritate my skin. Now I just wear a hat and carry an umbrella.
Maybe you could review NikkiTutorials ‘skincare line’ it’s something called Nimya I think… I’m sure you already know of it Dr.dray. Just an idea since a lot of people in the makeup community use it. It’s probably a hit & miss but I am curious. Just an idea 😊 LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Thank you for TEACHING me the world of skincare… FOREVER GRATEFUL TO YOU ♥️🌹♥️🌹
A lot of Cruelty Free companies don't label their products as non comedogenic, so since I've switched to these products, I had to do the trial and error method.. may seem extreme, but I will patch test for two whole months before I'll use a product all over my face. I do still read ingredients to check for items that have historically given me problems (coconut oil for one) and just avoid those products.
Yep I'm slightly oily acne prone and know this to be a fact for my skin, I've tried gel products my skin hated and then thick Vanicream cream never caused any issues. Just like my skin doesn't like azelaic acid for some reason but likes shea butter 🤷♀. Everything is been trial and error for me. I've never believed the creams cause acne saying, acne is caused down in the pores where skincare products don't usually reach but nobody believes me.
Happy Tuesday, Doc! Ah, I needed a "Dray Break" right now---my internet is down in the neighborhood and I had to work from my local Panera for the day. I'm out of my comfort zone! ;)
Hello Dr Dray, Could you please do a video on Indian hair care products for new hair growth like Emami Kesh king Ayurvedic oil, Minimalist hair serum, onion oil of various companies etc.
Hi Dr Dray as always a great video. Can you make a video explaining the different acne pimple (papules pustules cysts and nodules) how they form and what best way to treart each.
I think she has a similar video to that, how to get rid of bumps on the face. She also has one on cystic acne (nodules) and another on face mapping and lots of acne videos.
Hello Dr Dray, silent viewer here 🥰 an out of the topic question. I work on a night shift, what is the proper use of skin care..should I use night creams during the day before I sleep? Or use night creams as is, like at night? Thanks in advance for your time in reading and answering my Q. Love you! Thanks for always sharing your thoughts and vlogs. ❤❤❤
That's why I have tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, Aha, and Bha on board. That way, I don't really need to worry about pore clogging ingredients present in my moizturizers. Personally I like petrolatum, mineral oil and dimethicone in my moisturizers. Since I'm on my tretinoin for wrinkles and fine lines, petrolatum and mineral based moisturizers help my skin tolerate this medication better. If I'm getting breakouts here and there, I utilize my BPO and sulfur face cleanser to mop out the oil and bacteria sit on my skin.
I just learned that Cerave PM lotion clogged my pores!! Because of Cetearyl Alcohol+Ceteareth 20 (it’s non comedogenic when not mixed), I switched to another moisturizer and I’m crying bc I’ve been using Cerave for a year and thought it’s non comedogenic
I’m 54 and still suffer from hormonal acne around my jawline, even after menopause. I’ve only been able to isolate two ingredients that break me out without a doubt, silicones and L-ascorbic acid . Otherwise, my acne comes and goes 🤷♀️
Yes I am mid40 and silicones always seem to break me out ….but unfortunately most sunscreen and moisturizers( esp drug store ones) all contain silicones…i started avoiding silicone containing products and my skin clear

Thanks for sharing this
Same thing seems to have happened with my khiels moisturizer! I have a terrible breakout all across my chin and cheeks. Been using it for 2 years without issues
Interesting, that is the only moisturizer that doesn’t break me out
I'm so sad now LMAO.
The more I learn about skin care the more I realize that genetics plays a vital role in having clear, blemish free skin.
Just got my Anthelios UV Mune 50 plus sunscreen from the UK!!!! It is fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation.
So glad to hear you like it 👍🏼
Gentle cleanser, basic moisturizer, tretinoin, and sunscreen (no alcohol, no fragrance, no essential oils). My skin has gotten so much better by adopting a simplistic skincare routine.
Please share :)
Thank you for not bs'ing us!

periodt dr dray spilling the tea per usual
Thanks!
thank you for your support!
Hi Doctor, your videos are super informative and I love how genuine you are. Lots of love from India
Thanks for watching
Agree !!! From Québec 😁😁😁
You are totally right, it really is trial and error. And I’m one of those people who can’t tolerate lots of vitamin C products
A hat is always a good choice 👍🏼
I prefer sunglasses and an umbrella because hats make me sweat a lot 😅
@@msk-qp6fn sunglasses and an umbrella are a great idea if hats are too sweaty! I recently got prescription sunglasses and they're a game changer
👱♀️❤
Yessssss prescription sunglasses are awesome!!!!!
Just wanted to say, without any creams or treatment, I STOPPED EATING SUGAR, refined carbs and processed food (including foods contacting artificial sweeteners) and guess what: MY ACNE HAS GONE since. Diet is EVERYTHING.
I hope this will help somebody, it took me years to figure out.
happy Tuesday guys xo

Happy Tuesday
So this explains why numbers of products I've tried, stating 'non-comedogenic' on the package, clog my pores.
Happy Tuesday!
Happy Tuesday to You Too!! Have a Great Day!!🙂

Thanks for the laugh, Dr. Dray! You made my morning!!!
Considering what meticulous groomers rabbits are, now it all makes sense 😁
Lol
Dr. Dray, you are always so informative!! I love watching your videos :) When it comes to skincare I love sticking to a simple routine with only 2-3 products since I have sensitive and acne-prone skin. It's easier for me to eliminate which products are potentially irritating my skin.
Yes! I'll be 47 and suffer breakouts on my chin and the sides of my nose. But I need anti-aging products, too!
Dr Dray, can we pretty please get a video about who is a good candidate for SMP and how to best care for your pigment after treatment. In love with your channel❤
The Hair Loss Show (Australia, hair surgeons) have a video on this.

Happy Tuesday!! Have a Beautiful Day, and Week!!🌷🌷🌷🌷
I love how you deep dive into a topic but also give very practical tips. Thanks for sharing your expertise, Dr. Dray!
Might be due to silicones in cerave. I dont agree wel with vanicream, cetaphil or cerave either. My skin feels burning and breaks out
Unless you are a rabbit, doing extensive skin care on your ears.....I laughed so hard! I found this statement hilarious! Thank you Dr. Dray for a good laugh! I really needed this today. 😄
Thank you so much for this video! My acne aggravates so easily! Wrong sunscreen, the dust from cleaning....etc....
Oh such a great topic, love you scientific approach! Thank you!
May I suggest to add "comedogenic" word to the title or tags? People often search for this word and this word might help them to find your video
Unfortunately, the very loved cerave night lotion breaks me out. It's so hard to find a good moisturizer
thanks for watching
Panoxyl 4% daily face wash and AM Panoxyl suncreen moisturizer is a great combo! I found that Panoxyl decreases my breakouts more than Cerave, also the AM moisturizer by Panoxyl is less greasy than Cerave as well.
Keepin' it real...Love it! Thank you, Dr. Dray :-) Catch ya later
Poor rabbits 🐇 and their lovely ears.
Oh I would love to see a review of kindred black as well. I’ve never purchased but I’m so intrigued by the packaging.
Omg this video is so needed 😭
Thanks for watching
Absolutely GREAT video!!!!! Greetings from Greece!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Maybe you could review NikkiTutorials ‘skincare line’ it’s something called Nimya I think… I’m sure you already know of it Dr.dray. Just an idea since a lot of people in the makeup community use it. It’s probably a hit & miss but I am curious. Just an idea 😊
LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
Dr Dray please make a video about UVA rays and the best sunscreens ingredients that protect against UVA.
Thank u for all the content.
I'd also check out Lab Muffin's channel.

You'd do better checking the many Indian skin care channels including derms.
Isopropyl Palmitate in first few ingredients, very pore clogging for me.
Thanks for another great informative video.
Hi Dr Dray as always a great video. Can you make a video explaining the different acne pimple (papules pustules cysts and nodules) how they form and what best way to treart each.
I think she has a similar video to that, how to get rid of bumps on the face. She also has one on cystic acne (nodules) and another on face mapping and lots of acne videos.
loving your videos! happy tuesday😎

Thank you so much. ❤️
I need Andrea to have a curly haircut and style because I'm sure she IS a wavy .. pleaseeee
What moisturizer did you switch to?
@@LoveAlwaysAlana I’m using a locally manufactured moisturizer, Celeteque Dermoscience Hydration Facial Moisturizer, and my skin improved a lot
Wow same thing here!
Also...no oil based cleanser should break you out if you're actually washing your face with a water based foaming cleanser afterwards.
Thank you 🥰🥰

Please review Lira Clinical products! They’re always used by estheticians in Australia
I’m 54 and still suffer from hormonal acne around my jawline, even after menopause. I’ve only been able to isolate two ingredients that break me out without a doubt, silicones and L-ascorbic acid . Otherwise, my acne comes and goes 🤷♀️
I'm 28 and have had acne since 13 😩
See if your Derm will prescribe doxycycline. It has done wonders to control my hormonal acne. I'm in my late 40s.
Yes I am mid40 and silicones always seem to break me out ….but unfortunately most sunscreen and moisturizers( esp drug store ones) all contain silicones…i started avoiding silicone containing products and my skin clear

I have to remember to clean the nose rests on my sunglasses before I wear them. If I don't, my pores get blocked on that location on my nose, even if the nose rests have been adjusted.

Yes, the friction can definitely trigger irritation
Hi Nada! That's a great tip and something I almost never think to do. I hope you're doing well. Take care. 💜
I commented on a few of your videos regarding the Cotz Flawless Complextion spf (the one you wore in your last vlog) having bismuth oxychloride. I just bought it today & read reviews later...a lot of people complained in the reviews about that ingredient causing acne. This video makes me feel better haha. Thanks!
Can you review the new skin barrier products from Naturium??
I can’t use sunscreen 🥺 both chemical and physical make my skin look so bad. Makes me get cystic acne. As soon as I stop using sunscreen, my skin goes back to normal. Looking supple and not dry
Use a hat or umbrella at the least 🙏

Dr Dray please what can I use for body pigmentation?

Hi 😢 omg i am 21 from spain sorry for my english i just started to use niacimida and my skin is irritated and worse than ever what kind of serum do u recommend doctor? I have combination skin mix
I see a lot recommend Cerave PM though it says non-comedogenic it actually has a highly comedogenic ingredient that usually exists in lip balms (polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate 4/5)
I’m have tried many many different products to get rid of my acne and acne treatment dermalmd serum is the first product to actually get the job done!
I’ve been using for about 8months now once a day(at night is best)
Dr Dray could you please provide information about pilonidal cyst treatment? Thank you always for your great content.
My face reacts when the ingredients has green tea, shea butter,kojic.. coconut oil....but im not sure about oats...so im so careful of such ingredients
In my 20s I had some acne trouble (my skin was yelling at me to go to therapy, because I didn't have any idea how I felt emotionally so my skin and digestive system had to relay the message to me) and was so reluctant to touch my skin, so now I'm in my early 30s and starting to use sunscreen on my face. That's how I discovered your channel, actually, is trying to figure out what brand might be a good one to try.
