I think its the opposite. DC is starting from the ground up. No one is expecting every movie/show to be a hit or even catch on, they're still testing the waters with general audiences. Marvel has had a ton of flops and have lost general audiences trust. They need years of consistency to gain that trust back so they cannot afford to have another flop like the Marvels or Quantumania because they'll permanently lose fans.

It is asinine for you to believe a company like DC, with more flops under their belt than any other major Hollywood franchises 9 flops in a row, will be allowed leeway from audiences if Universe underperforms, even the mcu still more established than dc ever was a film property. @mikeval1525 Amusing. In DC's fanzine, Amazing World of DC Comics, number 14 (March, 1977), Metropolis was clearly stated to be located in Delaware, while Gotham was placed in New Jersey, meaning they were roughly 114 miles apart (geographically speaking). Not what I'd call "very close". That aside, be careful how you use the word "fact" in relation to those 2 cities, as "facts" change all the time in comics.
Dude. There's some factors you left out. Nicole Perlman was over shadowed by Gunn after she spent 2 years researching Guardians to get the script right. Guardians was successful cause it came out post 2012's Avengers. People wanted more MCU. Even 2013's Ironman 3 made over a billion. Gaudians featured Thanos (in his first speaking role). Every mcu movie made money after 2012's Avengers. The stars literally aligned for Gunn. To give him sole credit for Guardians when he came into an already successful franchise is insane.

I think the separation of the mainline DCU and the “black label” properties like Reeves Batman and Phillips Joker is genius. Some people aren’t interested in cinematic universes and just want to see a self contained narrative. It also offers a lot of opportunity for elseworld stories and different takes that can vary wildly artistically from the mainline films. I like that they are kind of structuring this like the comics. More like "Marvel hates Ant-Man and the Wasp." Ever since the infamous Yellowjacket slap (which exists because of an artist to the writer disconnect), Hank Pym has been permanently seen as a abuser and Janet van Dyne as a nothing burger of a character, and let's not talk about how they were treated in the original Ultimate universe too. Apparently, the writers of the Secret Invasion comic wanted to retcon that moment by saying Hank was replaced by a Skrull but Marvel vetoed that because it "was the most notable thing Hank had done in the comics beforehand. " ...what? They were part of the original Avengers line up in the comics alongside Iron Man, Thor and Hulk, Wasp even named the team for crying out loud. Now, in the MCU, they're just old mentor figures to Scott and Hope (Scott's well done, but Hope is a nothing burger of a character, in my opinion). The last time they were in anything mainstream was the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon back in the early 2010's where they were shown as original Avengers members, as intended and were given character arcs and flaws to overcome. I've heard that they're in the rebooted Ultimate universe with Hank and Janet as Ant-Man/Giant-Man and the Wasp, but it's still not enough after so many decades.

DC’s two biggest problems: • Rushing to compete with Marvel without doing convincing ground work nor establish trust in their characters. • Letting Snyder have complete control. The former is actually worse than the latter because once Snyder left, WB started throwing everything on the wall.
They need just continuity and consistency. The snyderverse wasn’t going to be amazing or compete with the mcu but it would have been better then what we got from dc after Snyder left. That’s more on WB no way they thought Zack Snyder would be a super marketable wide audience appeal. He makes niche cult classic type movies

Batman and Superman being around 10 years apart in age or more can work because we've seen it work in the DCAU and that's the most beloved version of those characters.

The reason the DCEU failed is because of WB meddling, rushing to catch up to marvel, forced comedy, and lack of a consistent tone/universe. Not only that, Snyder was originally signed on to make a Superman trilogy, not a whole flipping universe, BVS was forced onto him. I reckon if Nolan had directed MOS, BVS, and JL with the same amount of meddling by WB, we’d still be here today, but with a different attitude towards the company. Which is why I cannot trust WB with any film production apart from DC, because it’s always the same result in the end.
You've said it. WB is NOT good at making decisions. They ruined BVS by cutting important scenes concerning Superman's frame arc, by spoiling their own movie(WW and Apocalypse scenes ), and butchering JL by bringing Joss Whedon who's style didn't match DCEU's atmosphere. Then instead of letting Snyder direct Man of Steel 2, they let other minor projects continue to ruin DCEU fame. Furthermore, James Gunn didn't help by wanting to do reboot after The Rock brought the interest and excitement back to the product with Black Adam and the return of Superman. This decision completely ruined any hopes for future DC Universe. If the critics dislike Superman Legacy, i don't see any future for James Gunn in DC. It has been shown that the critics tend to have a long term influence on people, since they tend to forget how popular Black Adam was with the fan reviewers (check Rotten Tomato). If James Gunn fails, perhaps WB will realize their mistakes and give the former DCEU another chance.
unless the movie is outright horrible, a Superman film is a guaranteed box office success off of the strength of the IP alone plus the amount of time since Man of Steel, people will undoubtedly be going to see that movie. i really don’t think there’s anything to worry about until after the first projects’ releases. based off of the state the franchise appears headed in, you’ll know if it’s gonna be big or die.

For the boxoffice on The Suicide Squad argument, it was watched a ton on HBOmax. In TSS's first week on HBOmax it had 3.5M The Snyder Cut had 2.2M. So if The Suicide Squad is a failure, The Snyder Cut is even more of one. I digress, if Superman flops, then Warner Brothers Discovery, not just James Gunn and DC, are in serious trouble. WB is over 40B in debt, if they cannot start winning at the box office then Discovery is going to lose money selling WB off again. This is a studio that owns DC, Harry Potter, Loony Tunes, and their biggest box office hit is Barbie. The studio has had a serious disfuction problem since it was run by Kevin Tsujihara, who lead them to being bought by a phone company. If you want a good starting point as to when WB started a race to the bottom, there it is. People talk about Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada, that ain't it bro. They got on a path that Kevin Tsujihara made, they were not the creators of the problem, they were just good targets for people to lash out on TwitterX at the time because of DC projects, that were mandated by Kevin Tsujihara. He was removed in 2019, and in 5 years WB has just gotten worse leading to them being sold again to Discovery. If Superman fails, and the DCU can't succeed, then WBD has a huge problem not just the DC Studio. Like selling off assets or the whole company for a 3rd time in less then 10 years problems. 13:55 All Gunn needs to do is make his DC Batman comic book accurate. Easy. Not hard. People won't get confused. Pattinson is the Elseworlds Batman. He's not on the same Earth that the cinematic DCU will be on. My pick for DC Batman -- actor Zane Holtz. Great age for the character (prime age for Damian's father), perfect look, martial artist, solid actor.
James Gunn's leadership has a crucial opportunity to revitalize the DCU, but success hinges on effective management and making each project feel distinct. Each character should have unique tones and themes that fit their stories. For example, Swamp Thing should have a dark, mystical tone, Hal Jordan's Green Lantern should be an epic space opera, and The Flash (Barry Allen) should balance heart and humor with thrilling speedster action. Audiences need to relate to and resonate with the characters throughout their journeys. It's essential for James Gunn’s DCU to take its time developing characters and building the world slowly, allowing audiences to form strong connections and genuinely care for them. Films should also impart meaningful lessons, like those in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Logan, X-Men films, Unbreakable, Blade, Hulk, Daredevil (show and director's cut), Punisher films, and Superman films (including Man of Steel). The MCU has become known for being formulaic, overusing jokes, and making characters quip excessively, which undercuts serious moments and makes characters feel too similar. Each MCU film often feels the same in tone, cinematography, and template. In contrast, the DCU should focus on compelling storytelling and character development, avoiding the pitfalls of copying the MCU's approach. What can make the DCU more compelling is the potential for experimenting and innovative storytelling through Elseworlds. This approach is much needed in contemporary cinema for filmgoers and cinephiles. Taking risks with underrated characters and ensuring every film has a distinct theme and tone while still being part of a cohesive universe will be key. If "Superman" succeeds, it will be due to respecting the source material and the audience, while learning from the early days of the MCU's success, particularly Phase 1, which was more creative and willing to take risks with characters and films. The goal should be to avoid cookie-cutter movies and instead deliver unique, engaging stories that stand out in today's cinematic landscape.
The projects that he announced a while ago (both movies and series), at least, can't afford to fail. A LOT is riding on this, an ENTIRE BRAND! So if those projects can be a moderate to huge success will lead to good things and more projects being revealed and announced that people may love.
Yeah but they cant use his logo, gadgets, supporting cast or rogues gallery. Original Batman will enter public domain, not the modern Batman that everyone knows.
Good vid bro. I came to some of the same conclusions you did. If WBD set achievable box office targets, hopefully it'll be around for a while. As for recasting, I like Ethan Peck for Batman and Camila Morrone for Wonder Woman... so far.
Nothing Gunn announced got me excited. Doesn't sound like he wants to do a definitive version of the DC cinematic universe. Sounds like he's just using the universe as a aandbox to play in, but you can't build a cinematic universe off of mostly side/support characters.
Exactly. The first casting announcements should've been core DC characters: Green Lantern. WW. The Flash. Batman. Superman. I've been reading comics a long time. I haven't ever given a damn about "Mr. Terrific" lol. He's a D-list character at best.
Dc is failing me, we are all so disappointed with dc movies and shows. James Gunn doesn’t know how to write dc characters, this will be the tragic downfall of dc😖
i have faith in gunn he himself said the shooting for his superman film have went smoothly and there will be no need for reshoots so the executives 100% gave him control and hopefully wont pressure him to change up stuff just for the sake of competing with marvel which was the thing that led dc into a shit situation in the first place
The biggest worry about the DCU is how many projects have been announced years in advance and, obviously, how much money has been invested. Superman literally has to make $1bn and above to be considered successful and that's a very tall order even if the movie is good
I feel more positive about the upcoming DCU than I do about the MCU at this point. Everything Gunn has said about not doing more than 2 movies and 2 shows per year, and not letting a movie go into production until the script is locked in, is music to my ears. And that's before you get to the stuff you touch on in this video about not being afraid of the source material, etc.
I think DC should’ve waited a little longer before dropping a new DCU movie-verse on us, but whatever. Kinda skeptical about Gunn. He’s really at his best when writing for more obscure, comedic characters. This coupled with the fact that he’s bringing Tom King (probably best known for destroying Batman and Wally West’s Flash in comics) into the writing room and adapting his work, is an instant turn off (why King? Why not anyone else? Mark Waid or Tom Taylor maybe? Anyone but King.)

He Got the acting chops, the look, and he’s 37 so Batman will only be about 5 years older than Superman. Now as for Batman having the 4 robins in his age this is how u do it. And starts crime fighting with him for like 2 years. Age 31: Bruce meeting a 14-15 year old jason todd shortly after dick Grayson now age 18 is now nightwing. Age 33: the killing joke and death in the family. Barbara paralyzed and jason dies. Age 35: Bruce meets Tim drake. Bruce refuses to make him robin after what happened to jason and Barbara. So instead he allows Tim to be the tech guy on the bat computer helping Bruce on missions basically the role that oracle has. Age 37: brave and the bold Batman meets Damian. The batfamily goes catwoman, nightwing, batgirl, and Tim( not as robin but an honorary robin, makes it easier for the general audience).Dick is now in his mid 20s, Jason will be early 20s when he eventually comes back, Barbara around mid 20s, Tim is like 18, Selina around Bruce age maybe a little younger, Damian is 10-13 years old
Remember that you have to take into account when the movie is going to come out, it's to early to be fancasting. It's also easier to take a younger guy and just say he's older in the movie than to take an old guy and say he's younger in the movie
Tim could be Red Robin instead of an honorary Robin. Also, the Teen Titans need to fit in somewhere here as there's a film in the works. I think they should take from the DCAMU and make Dick Grayson and Koriand'r the same age (makes sense anyway), but I'm not sure if Tim or Damian will be part of it and the ages of the other members. Oh! Cyborg should be around the same age as Dick and Kori so that his shift into the Justice League makes sense.
That little snippet of Nick Hoult earnestly being like “Dude YOU are my Lex Luthor, hands down” is so fucking heartwarming. I really like Nick Hoult’s general public persona, like he seems very sweet and kind and funny, not to mention he’s been phenomenal in just about every single thing I have ever seen him in, from Skins UK to the X-Men franchise, to The Great. He’s so young but he’s really one of the great actors of our generation. He also works his ass off-dude is in SO many projects. Also shoutout to his portrayal of Nikola Tesla in The Current War, a very good film about Edison and Westinghouse’s race to electrify America and more specifically their competition for the contract of the World’s Fair in Chicago, and even though Tesla’s role is fairly small, I still think it’s one of the most accurate and respectful depictions of one of the most important meant who ever lived. 👏 I can’t wait to see him terrify as Lex Luthor. I have almost zero concern that he will deliver the type of Lex Performance we want. One with sauce. Nick will bring the sauce to the role. Also: Gal Gadot? Not tall enough. Gimme a Wonder Woman who can look Superman in the eyes, heck gimme a Wonder Woman who looks like she could end me. I want someone maybe not quite as buff as like, Gina Carano (who could absolutely kill a man with her thighs, she is a hot ass muscle mommy but she’s not tall enough), but someone with more meat on their bones to show that they’re a warrior than Gal Gadot had. I want a comic-book Wonder Woman. An Amazon. Casting has to start at 6’. Don’t gimme no 5’10” woman in heels and expect me to believe she could take Superman in a fight. She’s a warrior! Give me buff WW!
They are literally going to do what they did for the Tomorrowverse. The Flash rebooted the universe with a flashpoint, and S2 of peacemaker happens after the flashpoint. There is going to be a multiverse and they will do Crisis in Infinite earths.
Yea I agree Jenson and Alan are too old for the role Batman, Brandon Skenlar is a good cast Batman he’s 6’2 and 32 currently and all James Gunn needs to do is take elements from the New 52 bat family Timeline, and adaptations don’t always copy and paste you can make Bruce start being Batman at age 23 to 24, I say Bruce should be around 35 in the movie brave and the bold.
If Superman flops. The DCU is not dead not really. The problem with the DCU is they need to stop relying on the trinity. That's a problem that they continue to have. They have all these characters at their disposal, but refuse to use them. The Dakotaverse, The Spectre , Captian Atom , Zal Zod , Calvin Ellis , Firestorm, Icon, Black Lighting, Static Shock etc.Ask yourself besides Cyborg has there been any black superheroes on the big screen that DC has brought to the forefront as the lead and not a back ground character and not token black character. DC has to do better. They have a black Superman and his name is Icon. If James Gunn plans to use the character or just let the character keep collecting dust like all the other characters. If this movie bombs , the DC is not dead they are might have to forced to use others characters they wouldn't normally use. And that is a good thing. Because they would never know how good of the character that character is really is until they use them. I am pretty sure they are some young upcoming ambitious director that would be very interested in doing an Icon film. That's just my opinion.
@harryrao4296 Simply because those characters are new and fresh. It's just like when Aquaman first came out. Nobody expected the first Aquaman to do a billion dollars. Give the audience something new and fresh.what's. You can't tell if Ryan Coogler was to accept the directors chair and said to DC I wanna do an Icon movie." Unlike DC, Marvel can afford a few flops here and there. So DC literally can’t afford another flop when they had 5 in a row the past couple years.

Actually, metropolis and Gotham being very close to each other is a fact from the comics.
Was wondering about that
Definitely true. It was actually established in the Pre-Crisis continuity until the Post-Crisis continuity changed it.
They've been separated but it wouldn't make sense for Gotham to be across the river and Superman not step in do something about the crime.

The last time they were in anything mainstream was the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon back in the early 2010's where they were shown as original Avengers members, as intended and were given character arcs and flaws to overcome. DC’s two biggest problems:

• Letting Snyder have complete control.

Absolutely excited for this. There's so much passion and planning ahead that just wasn't there for the DCEU. Even amongst whose been casted. I don't get the hesitation from "fans" to embrace this new future that has everything good going for it.
I'm optimistic though, I really don't see it "flopping" but not meeting expectations more likely, which is more than $1B at the box office. Let's just be honest, that's the expectation.
But saying Nathan Fillion as Guy Garner is a banger casting, naw bro. That's the one where I'm like, WTF?
The suicide squad bombed at the boxoffice

5:25 I feel like more synder bots need to wrap this concept around their tiny lil brains 💀
As a snyder fan i am exited
Was this written by Chat GPT? Lol
We need DCU because I'm been big fan of DC when I was kid now I grown up I still big fan of DC hopefully it successfully

Kinda skeptical about Gunn. He’s really at his best when writing for more obscure, comedic characters. THANKS man for pointing out that that is Graysons nightwing , nobody talks about that and they keep using that picture and saying Bruce Wayne and his son Damian it is driving me crazy😖
To your point on Batman and Superman ages. I think that Bruce Wayne should be around 37-38 years old. My fancast say Oliver Jackson cohen. He Got the acting chops, the look, and he’s 37 so Batman will only be about 5 years older than Superman. Now as for Batman having the 4 robins in his age this is how u do it.
Age 25: Batman year 1 sometime before year 1 age 25 Batman meets Talia in his early 20s and Damian is born.
Age 28: Batman meets and trains a 15 year old dick Grayson.
