@@tonymata8070 I don't agree. In my opinion, while it wasn't a bad movie by any means, for a DCEU movie, Zack Snyder had no idea how to write superman, though it was not all his fault, he was only the co-writer. The entire world treated him like an alien and he was even interrogated by Lois Lane and put him in cuffs. No other interpretation would do that. I don't think Zack Snyder understood the character of Superman. Why would they put him in cuffs? He's a superhero. And that's how you treat him? They completely dehumanized Superman. He may be an alien, but in all other interpretations, he's had a human side to him, where people looked up to him as their hero, but there's literally a line that says "the alien, we're calling him superman" like wtf. That is not how you portray superman. Don't get me wrong, I think Henry Cavill is a fine actor, I really liked him as Sherlock but as Superman, not so much. I liked his suit but that was about it. I did not like his version. In my opinion, the weakest portrayal, writing wise. And that's coming from someone who stopped watching the DCEU after Wonder Woman came out as that was the only good one.

Thank you for making this timeline video for the DCEU Cris! I loved it and honestly ima miss this extended universe but it's for the best cause I am interested with James Gunn's DCU Reboot with Superman Legacy, Brave and The Bold etc. But I did hear from an interview with Zack Snyder that if Netflix has acquired the extended universe characters like Henry Cavill's Superman, Ben Affleck's Batman etc, Zack would continue his plan of making Justice League 2 and 3, Man of Steel 2, Ben Affleck's Batman Film!!! Which is honestly insane and I'd be down for that! But I think Zack will be busy with Rebel Moon and building that universe which I'm also excited for that.
Im super excited at the prospect of a well organized DC movie universe with proper representations of characters, DC deserves it and I have faith Gunn can deliver it
i hated batman v superman when i first watched it. time went on and i remembered loving the batman fight scenes so i said why not watch the extended version. ended up loving it lmao.
I am a huge marvel fan don’t even know a single storyline from the Dc movies or comics but after Marvels recent problems and the fact the Avengers movies might get ruined and that James Gunn is the head of Dc I have been thinking about becoming a fan of both
You know, the reboot announcement caused a lot of issues, but maybe also saved future DC, because they either had to announce it early and take the loss on the last 5 movies or not announce it and essentially let Gunn take the fall for all of that essentially ruining any chance of ever getting to his own universe, by then people would not have been interested if they thought he was behind the last few movies, heck even now people are against him and blame him for some of them. But at least now people MIGHT have something to look forward to.
@@BrandonTBlackwell I'm not talking current DCEU dude, that was already on it's way down the drain. What I mean is, specifically FUTURE DCU projects would likely have never even been given the chance if those in charge (Gunn and Safran) were directly associated with the past DCEU ones. Obviously it's been super detrimental, but hopefully only in the short term. It's not like they weren't going to hire Gunn, and it's also not like they were going to try and keep it secret somehow, they weren't going to say, hey Gunn, come back in a five years so we can finish tanking our franchise before we bring you on. Frankly I'm surprised they even released anything after the announcement, no idea why they didn't just make the call to cut their losses early. THAT is what really screwed them over. They should have taken every tax write off they could get and simple start over.
Well said !!! My high was definitely seeing Zack get his movie out so it's fitting my low was how WB treated Zack and especially Henry Cavill. If the DCEU fans don't show up for Gunn's DCU, you will be making this video again. But a lot sooner than 10 years. though.
Batman v Superman should have made Force Awakens money. The fact that it didn't should have told them to kill the DCEU right then and there. I'm exaggerating, but not by much.
Damn, I still remember seeing Man of Steel in theaters back in 2013. I was 16 and a Sophomore in high school. Now I’m 26, graduated, and married and recently saw Aquaman The Lost Kingdom with my wife. It was a very bumpy ride so I’m glad James Gunn is rebooting the DCU. I trust he’ll make it something amazing. Because the DCEU just became a hot mess.
The pointless DCEU, which was a reward to how the fans reacted early. It is funny to hear how fans were creaming their pants over BvS, but afterwards complained that it was too soon and that "rushing" the DCEU was the problem. Make up your minds. No, the problem was that Nolan and Snyder did NOT set out to create a shared universe in the style of the MCU, but baby-fans rejected the project. WB panicked, butchered theatrical cuts, refused the time necessary for character developments before a JL movie (of which they butchered and made "sweet"), and then enlisted Hamada to deliver eight straight MCU comedy-clone flops. Thanks fans! Blame yourselves. Now you all whine about the MCU being too sweet and not serious enough. The lot of you have no idea what you want.
I will honestly remember till i die the feeling i got from the first wonder woman film. Astounding visuals beautiful themes and it was kinda funny. The soundtrack is also beautiful. Suicide squad to alot of people was more of a cultural parody and not a movie
Even as much as I like the first wonder woman even that movie gets worse with every rewatch imo. I don't know what it was missing but it didn't have the same heart and soul the early marvel movies had
Here's what James Gunn dcu needs to do 1: do not let WB suit have any input 2: put trust in a director to bring to life of what you want them to show in that movie 3: don't play catch-up with MCU 4: don't do dark storyline unless it is necessary 5: have fun and enjoy what you are doing
Don't think DC really had a vision. Should've focused on a Superman Trilogy which then could lead into the other DC Characters. They just tried to rush it.
It was WAY too early for Batman v. Superman. There should’ve AT THE VERY LEAST been a Man of Steel 2, a solo Batman movie, and (maybe) a Wonder Woman movie. Batman v. Superman is a major motion picture event you gotta build up to and flesh out that conflict. You can’t just rush into that right off the bat.
This reminds me of game developers starting out fresh. Whether it's diving into filmmaking or game creation, if you leap into a big project without proper groundwork, things can quickly go wrong. The situation in the dceu is that they rushed without establishing the characters, world, or storyline properly. It's like new game developers attempting to make a triple a game without the essential knowledge. It's all about laying the groundwork first to create something solid.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it was during the dawn of the justice league special on the CW where they announced the slate of the DCEU and then they had the directors do a panel at comic con to further discuss their plans and I was so excited. Although I didn’t hate BvS, I was really excited for the future of this new universe especially with the setup of Darkseid
I have a feeling that JOKER had no intention of being a movie about the joker until the studio said.. rewrite the names of the characters and city and we can make more people see it.
This was really well done 👏 this took me wayyyyy back and man, was it hard sometimes being a DC fan 😂 thankyou for making this video. As much as a rollercoaster the DCEU was, man it was definitely a trip and I will miss it..it had so much potential. Excited to see what Mr Gunn will bring us with Superman Legacy and the new DCU along with it!
Still could remember when I was 8 being excited about the Justice League film.Unfortunately the franchise couldn’t expand from there.I didn’t really know what was happening during the Batman vs Superman time as I was too young
Crazy when you look at DCEU's first five movies it would be analogous to the MCU going: 1. Iron Man 2. Captain America: Civil War 3. Guardians of the Galaxy 4. Thor 5. Avengers
You hit the nail on the head with WB's reactionary nature. That's what derailed the DCEU before it ever really had a chance to get going. Sadly, this isn't new for WB (or WBD now). They have a history of interfering with productions as far back as Superman 2. It's crazy to think if the studio just got out of its own way, where the DCEU might be today. That said, this was a really fun retrospective of a big old mixed bag of movies. If nothing else, there are some real gems in this universe that I'll happily revisit throughout the years.
I remember 12 year old me loving man of steel and my dad showing me a video that dc did where they showed off their upcoming lineup with so many movies like suicide squad, Wonder Woman, flash, cyborg, and getting excited for these films when they gave us our first look at suicide squad. Plus I remember seeing Jared Lego’s joker for the first time and getting super excited because I lived the dark knight. However I also remember hating BvS even as a preteen but still holding out hope to get to the two justice league movies. 10 years later, half of those films didn’t even go into production and we only got one justice league film where we were promised two! All in all if I told 12 year old me that it turned out this bad, I would have given up all hope and only watched Marvel.
@InevitableOption-ic2vx i mean heard Green Lantern, Hawkman and others are in it .. might as well jumpstart with a justice league you gone do that 😂😂😂😂 Superman finna be the spider-man at DC (used to setup bigger films)
I’m never into DCEU since day 1 unfortunately. As a kid watching Man of Steel, I got some severe headaches with all the fight scenes and felt really hollow by the end. Still feel the same till this day.
Okay so I was confused becuz I never understood why James Gunn was fired from Disney but I searched up the tweets that he sent out and…just wtf James Gunn you were a very sick man back then 😭😭😭
Rest in peace DCEU. I hope the DCU will not face the same mistakes that the DCEU have. There is a lot of potential with the DCEU but sadly it ended too soon and it's for the best. It started strong and it ended so weak. When I was a kid watching Man of Steel, it makes me interested in watching comic book movies. At first after watching the movie I thought it's just gotta be like a trilogy where it's only Superman which I didn't realize it's their starting point in creating the cinematic universe. Henry Cavill's iteration of Superman is one of the things I will never forget about the DCEU.
I was so pumped for bvs....I was so upset and let down ...UNTIL I saw the directors cut...that version is amazing... theatrical version took all the plot out. The directors cut of it is perfection paired with the Snyder cut
RIP ☹️ to The DCEU It had it's ups and.. it's downs. (The Sucide Squad) Definitely takes it For that sweet #1 Spot 🥇 and Introduceing one of my favorite characters. Peacemaker 😊 can't wait to See what James Gunn Has in store for the New DC Universe
I remember when Batman vs Superman came out. I heard rumors about the movie, because my friends and my brother’s friends told me that they were making a Batman vs Superman movie. And apparently they were right
James Gunn should’ve ended the DCEU by giving it an actual ending. Here’s how I would’ve ended it. Give Wonder Woman, Shazam, Aquaman, Suicide Squad, and Blue Beetle their own trilogies. And in Shazam 3, have Black Adam be the villain and to make Dwayne Johnson happy, have Superman be in that movie as well. And for fun put Blue Beetle in there, too. Then have a big Justice League movie, more likely to be a two parter, with Darkseid be a big part and doing the Crisis on Infinite Earth story line.
The two things I hated most in BVS were Jesse Eisenberg as Lex and the lackluster design of Doomsday. I remember loving Batman's warehouse fight and wished we could've gotten a film with more of that. Also it's wild that we got a DC cinematic universe where Batman and Joker didn't even fight each other on screen. Really hope Gunn can give us a more cohesive cinematic universe. I'm cautiously optimistic
I can recall the time I went to a Special Showing of Man of Steel with a friend of mine while wearing a Superman T-shirt and cape. I really miss those days of hype.
Batman v superman is just one of those movies that yeah it was odd but is still surprising it got made. Kinda like Freddy v Jason. Not a great movie (strictly my opinion about both of them) but the fact I got made is surprising.
The announcement of Batman v Superman made me excited for the DCEU, but after Justice League came out, I just stopped caring. There were good movies, but I skipped most of the movies just because I didn't like how it was being handled
It was the opposite for me: I walked out from BVS with so much happiness and energy to follow more of that (even the short cut version) but for Joshtice League, I get pissed over the all world because of it. Real villain origin story like kind of pissed off lol
I was 11 when BvS came out and I watched it in theaters and as a kid I fell in love with it. It warranted me to fall in love with comic books and the movies surrounding them before that it was x men and that was it for me. So BvS holds a special place in my heart
I know The DCEU was very messy and some projects better than others but since i grew up with these films imma miss it but can’t wait for James Gunn’s DCU
I was 20 when the DCEU started. I knew it was doomed after SVB because SUICIDE SQUAD suddenly copied so many beats from Guardians of the Galaxy. It also wanted to be “dark and chaotic and serial killer like” but also “zany and colorful and sugary”. Margot BROKE her spine trying to carry that film. Will Smith didn’t even *try* to emote. And the Enchantress was this over dramatic execution with zero backstory. The nail for me was Justice League. When you fail your “Avengers”, that’s it. Pack it up. But they kept. On. Going. I liked Peacemaker. That was it. And the second Suicide Squad. Nothing else. Barely Man of Steel.

@@MysticFusion7 You can blame Goyer on that one, he’s also the writer of the good Blade movies and the very hated Trinity movie.
Just because he wrote The Dark Knight Trilogy, doesn’t mean he’s perfect all the way.
@@tonymata8070 Oh absolutely. That's why I'm hoping James Gunn nails the Superman reboot. We need good writing for once. I did like the origin part of Man of Steel however, that was done well, but the actual Superman part, didn't sit well with me. But that's just me
@@MysticFusion7 Man of Steel actually made me a Superman fan, BUT I also want to see Superman: Legacy.
Especially after seeing that Gunn is utilizing Donner’s rule on the depiction of Superman on film, Verisimilitude.
I never watched the DCEU but after watching your videos I started watching the movies. Let’s just say it had its ups and downs.
Oh for sure but some gems
Saved DC? It fucked DC over.
FINALLY!!!! I was wondering where the video was but it’s here!!!
Well said !!! My high was definitely seeing Zack get his movie out so it's fitting my low was how WB treated Zack and especially Henry Cavill. If the DCEU fans don't show up for Gunn's DCU, you will be making this video again. But a lot sooner than 10 years. though.
Batman V Superman that warehouse fight scene was fricking awesome to watch though. Sometimes I look it up on UA-cam.
That doesn't mean WB is off the hook.
Here's what James Gunn dcu needs to do
1: do not let WB suit have any input
2: put trust in a director to bring to life of what you want them to show in that movie
3: don't play catch-up with MCU
4: don't do dark storyline unless it is necessary
5: have fun and enjoy what you are doing
Like Tony Stark said: Part of the Journey is the End.
great video chris! this had good flow and it was very fun
The hype we all had between man of steel and BvS was the best time to be a DC fan.
Then the movie came out.
Sometimes the forest has to burn down for a more vibrant one to grow
Yess it was! I remember that CW special
Thanks for sharing Chris 🤩🍿🎥
Let's all be excited for the next 'phase'...
Crazy when you look at DCEU's first five movies it would be analogous to the MCU going:
1. Iron Man
2. Captain America: Civil War
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Thor
5. Avengers
3C I’m so proud of you
You hit the nail on the head with WB's reactionary nature.
The good thing about DC, we always have their animated universes.
They have such good characters they just don’t know how to use them right I hope dcu finally prevail I have hope
Good Job 3C interesting to go through time again!
Great Video Cris! The End of DCEU is here! Can’t wait for James Gunn’s DC Universe! 👍
Saaaame, just wish he wasn’t opening with Superman
James Gunn's DCU is already dead
@InevitableOption-ic2vx i mean heard Green Lantern, Hawkman and others are in it .. might as well jumpstart with a justice league you gone do that 😂😂😂😂 Superman finna be the spider-man at DC (used to setup bigger films)
I’m never into DCEU since day 1 unfortunately. As a kid watching Man of Steel, I got some severe headaches with all the fight scenes and felt really hollow by the end. Still feel the same till this day.
Okay so I was confused becuz I never understood why James Gunn was fired from Disney but I searched up the tweets that he sent out and…just wtf James Gunn you were a very sick man back then 😭😭😭
It was just a bad joke he regrets it alr
Cris is back to make our day better
I hope this first Reboot finally gives us consistent stories that work.
It was a very interesting time to say at the very least, nice sum up video Chris. 👍☺
And apparently they were right
The fact that one movie is chris' Canon event to start his UA-cam channel is crazy
Love your videos man, keep up the great work!
Batman did fight the joker in suicide squad for a brief moment ,during the car chase
I really appreciate your overall analysis on the DCU. This is a great find. Thank you, Chris.
It’s the DCEU
@@ahmadmohammed4212 Thanks for the correction.
I can recall the time I went to a Special Showing of Man of Steel with a friend of mine while wearing a Superman T-shirt and cape. I really miss those days of hype.
I saw Justice League (2017) with my mom and at the end we both looked at one another and said it was trash
By the end of this 10 year story arc, the only thing that became clear is that truly Warner Bros's greatest arch-enemy... was Warner Bros.
Batman v superman is just one of those movies that yeah it was odd but is still surprising it got made. Kinda like Freddy v Jason. Not a great movie (strictly my opinion about both of them) but the fact I got made is surprising.
The Suicide Squad 2021 is the BEST DCEU Film of all time. That was peak DC.
Blue beetle good and best movies 10/10
I remember when Man of Steel came out, I full on thought it was in the same universe as Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight films.
Thanks dad for spoiling us with the videos this month!!
The announcement of Batman v Superman made me excited for the DCEU, but after Justice League came out, I just stopped caring.
There were good movies, but I skipped most of the movies just because I didn't like how it was being handled
I wish we would got a Joker, Batman, and Deathstroke movie.
It was the opposite for me: I walked out from BVS with so much happiness and energy to follow more of that (even the short cut version) but for Joshtice League, I get pissed over the all world because of it. Real villain origin story like kind of pissed off lol
Finally... Let's go Gunn 🙏🏻
I was 11 when BvS came out and I watched it in theaters and as a kid I fell in love with it. It warranted me to fall in love with comic books and the movies surrounding them before that it was x men and that was it for me. So BvS holds a special place in my heart
Awesome video 3c films
I know The DCEU was very messy and some projects better than others but since i grew up with these films imma miss it but can’t wait for James Gunn’s DCU
Love the videos as always Chris!! Loved your Funko video as well. Made me want to start my own collection. You missed Peacemaker btw Chris!!!
