Great video! I'm the primary (and last) gamecube technician for a retro gamestore I work for, and I'm all too familiar with the woes of the gamecube disc drive. The good news is, while it's the most fallible part of the console, it's usually the only thing that breaks on them. Most of the time with 001 models, the capacitors go bad after their 20-22 year life span. For 101 models we've found the laser itself can go out, seemingly not built as well as the 001 models. Highly recommend taking the time to get your broken gamecubes repaired and get as much as you can out of them! I can say for certain they're our most in-demand retro console on a given day. I actually own 9 gamecubes (as of typing) and 2 of them are my parts babies that help maintain my others. My primary console actually has an SD card loader I installed to run roms of games off solid state so I wouldn't have to keep worrying about swapping my disc drives around, and with a custom shell and a special pokemon jewel faceplate, it's become my favorite home console! because it's solid state, I get to run cleaner rips and better versions of software for games like Medabots infinity and a higher quality gameboy player boot disc, so the upscaling is beautiful! You can get similar results with a modded wii and some adapters, but getting to play on original hardware, keeping the physicality of memory cards and getting to see that power light is a treasure all it's own! I think the weirdest mad science thing I've done with my gamecube would be running a gameboy camera off the gameboy player and displaying to the computer and taking some interesting photos with it XD
surely there’s a better controller solution. the rest i feel like you’re cooking with, but surely there exists some sort of off brand wavebird that’d work and stay cheap
My guy, those GameCubes probably just need their disk drive capacitors replaced. Mine wouldn't read disks until I soldered in new capacitors. That's the permanent fix vs heating with a heat gun and potentially ruining other parts 😂 Edit: after watching the whole video I truly admire your dedication bro
I just spent like $300 for a PAL copy of box and a PAL GameCube with a retro prism digital to HDMI device. I now own 4 working GameCubes. EN, JP, PAL, and one modded with a GC loader.
That bit about running the same save on multiple games was really insightful. I’m currently doing that for a Feebas hunt in Ruby, but all 4 of my carts have a dead battery to keep the Feebas spot from changing. Was able to find a shiny Magikarp in that time hunting though, so my guess is that its still possible to hit different frames even if you’re 4 of the same seeds.
@@braxinIV the games will eventually drift apart as time goes on. Frames advance faster in battle so minor differences in inputs for going in and out of encounters will eventually bring saves far enough apart that it isn’t likely they would be hitting the same RNG States. Keep in mind there are 60 different frames in a second so without a controller mod or a way to duplicate inputs it isn’t super likely to be hitting the same frames. That being said, it’s better safe than sorry!
Is there any way to save the Pokemon caught on one of the GameCubes? Like since you unplugged the gameboy where would the shiny go? Or is it just to get a shiny on camera and not for keeps?
You can save the game my plugging the gba with the sapphire cartridge back into the gamecube. Your cartridge savefile just has to be the same as your gamecube emulator save.
ever think about making some sort of case that holds a ton of gamecubes in a way that makes the disk drives accessible? you could maybe even attach them to the underside of a table or something like that
This is a really cool way to do this with physical versions! I pretty much shiny hunt by opening the game 10 times in multiple windows with emulators 😂
I have a question. If I soft reset via Box with even just 1 cartridge, is it still a waste of time? Like, is the seed always the same? For example if I soft reset a legendary on Sapphire one day, then disconnect and reconnect another day, am I seeing the same frames? Love your channel btw, it's bonkers and you're an inspiration for us degenerate shiny hunters.
Your seeds will be different. He was saying that if you're running 4 of the same save file the rng is the same for those games on that one reset. If you only have one game you don't have to worry about anything
The seed will always be the same if the internal battery of the cartridge is dead. If the internal battery of the cartridge isnt dead, then the initial seed function will work.
Looks like you already got some replies - No difference really between Wii and GameCube If your internal battery is alive then your starting seed changes once per minute, even on Pokémon Box
Why not make a controller that has multiple controller connections and just plug it in to all of them? Sure you have to not feed power from all of them but I’m sure if you connected to only the data pins it should work
@@Mike2321x we have actually tried this. Because of the way the data from the controller gets polled it is very janky. You’ll only get the signal being sent out to one system at a time even (kinda randomly per second) if they are all hooked up. I gave it a go and all that happened is one game would move, then the next game would move. I’m sure there is a way around it but not without some unofficial hardware
Probably not anytime soon, it’s still crazy to me it’s $2,000. When I originally bought I thought it was ridiculous I paid $80 for “organization software” 😂

This is by far the Jankiest thing I've ever seen lmao! Super entertaining though, I was watching this with a smile on my face! 😂
A true Pokémon professor. Your vids are the most useful for players going back to play optimized Gen 3.
You are legit the MacGyver of shiny hunting setup, super entertaining! especially the dance mats lmao

the dogs have been unleashed
I laughed my ass off when bro pulled out the dance mats

The setup videos are always so satisfying to watch bro! Nice video!

This was very enjoyable to watch, love your creativity bro! :D
One of my favorite creators, hope to see more content soon!!

@@ananunes6736 got it right! Thanks
@@ananunes6736 nifty totally solves the problem of having the gba be on during gameplay with no charger. Pretty cool
Isn't there a way to just plug one game mat to an adaptor connecting to each gamecube ? That would save a lot of money and time to find each mat.
This is actually really cool
This is the craziest shit I've seen someone do with a +20 year game and a single gameboy
I wonder if the original disc drive was suffering from poor solder connections.

I wonder why NASA haven’t find you and hire you! What a master
I feel buying the gc loader for $60 is a better option, cause then you can play any gamecube game natively.
Wasn’t expecting a foot reveal
What an awesome video to wake up to :)
man i would love to replace all those capacitors and tune those optical drives. so many of those consoles could still work just fine!
@@_BELMONT_ I did end up fixing most of them, you’ll see them in our next major lab update video (33x shiny hunting)
